Parking can be challenging, but I feel that's true of a lot of places in Austin. The staff was very pleasant, upbeat, and helpful. It's on the small/cosy side, being sandwiched between Lush and Waterloo Records, but seating wasn't a problem. It was a busy day, so some cleaning duties got missed and they didn't have WiFi. Delicious classic and seasonal flavors (the hatch chili is yum!). I like this location because of ample parking and seating, sharing the space with Phil's. The line can get really long, though, so they should consider adding one more person during peak times (weekends, summers in general). When I was last there, there were two kids behind the counter. In their haste attending to customers and hustling to the back to get more ice cream they ran into each other which resulted in a bloody nose and one less server. No bueno! read more

The night I visited, I tried the peanut butter oreo and the Copstop (coffee with sour cream doughnut bits). I went here because I heard it was the place to go in Austin for ice cream. You basically choose an ice cream and can have toppings mixed in. I don't know if it was this particular Amy's or the day we went, but I felt like the flavors they had that day were lacking. There was nothing that seemed to stand out. I ended up going with coconut, which was good and had lots of coconut shreds, and the husband got coffee. They were both fine, but this being a must-do in Austin is debatable. Mexican vanilla has a really strong vanilla flavor, Jester King Black Metal stout ice cream is one of the few beer-flavored ice creams I've had that actually tastes like beer, and Belgian chocolate is a smooth iteration of a timeless classic. Tried their best seller which was mexican vanilla, which I think tastes like horchata. It was good. I didn't like the long wait (about 30-45) minutes, and for some reason it got really hot at that very moment we were waiting in line. Felt like 95 degrees out of nowhere in mid January! Here's the thing that made my day today: the barista was playing show tunes, and when my friends and I sang along, in full voices, so did she, and it became a full on song and dance party. There was literally no one at the counter when I went here today. The two employees for Phil's Icehouse were sitting around with nothing to do. When I started looking around, they said, she will be back. After ten minutes of waiting and no attempt from the Phil's people to help, I left with nothing. People have to go to the bathroom I get that, but to have two other employees sitting around unable or unwilling to help is not acceptable. I also don't recommend buying the pre-packed pints. They tend to get a lot of ice in them that makes them gross. The same can be said for the frozen raspberries as a mixing about part of the time. Amy's is decent ice cream, but I wish it wasn't so dominant in Austin. I honestly think marble slab has a better flavor. read more

I just moved to Austin a few months ago and was lucky enough to move right across the street from Amy's ice cream. I really enjoy this place and think this ice cream is some of the best that I've had. Unfortunately, tonight I had a very unpleasant experience. I had a friend visiting from out of state and I took her here so she could try what I have been raving about. We arrived close to closing time, and there were a few people in line ahead of us. It was quite evident the employee's on shift were rushing customers due to their desire to close down as quick as possible. However, this resulted in extremely poor customer service including not being asked what size I would like, not being given an ice cream cone let alone asked what cone I would like, and my friend simply getting a bowl of cookie dough which was the topping she asked to go with her ice cream. We were charged for the largest size ice cream and simply treated with an extremely negative attitude. I work in food service and completely understand the desire to close down and get home as soon as possible, however sacrificing customer service in order to achieve is not the right choice. I hope the attitude of the employee's can be addressed as this is a great place to frequent! read more

What is there to say about Amy's that hasn't already been said before? Not much. I like that they have a set of constant, reliable flavors like sweet cream, Belgian chocolate, and vanilla, and that the rest rotate, though sometimes it can get frustrating when you have a craving for one of their rotating flavors and go to find that it's not on tap that day. I also like that it's connected with Phil's Ice House, which serves pretty decent burgers. The people who work this location are always two things: young and friendly. One of my favorite memories of coming here was when the kid working behind the counter had an All That t-shirt on. The guy in line in front of us was a little older than we are, and he asked the kid, "Are you even old enough to remember that show?" And the kid smiled and said, "Yes, but just barely." A lot of times the young whipper-snappers working behind the counter know ice cream tricks too, like flipping the ice cream behind their back and catching it in the cup. All in all, I've never had a bad experience at this location and the quality of the ice cream is consistently great. read more

I have always loved Amy's, but the staff were just wonderful last night. My sons and I were in a wreck at the intersection of Lamar and Barton Skyway on our way to have ice cream. While I was outside dealing with the remains of my car, the staff comped my sons' ice cream. I was very thankful that they did not get hurt, but also incredibly appreciative of the kindness of strangers on a difficult night. By the way, the ice cream was delicious as it always is.
