We just left Anthony's seafood restaurant in Bellingham after having been recommended by several people as the place to go for seafood and a nice view. We had a 6:15 reservation and we got sat at a nice booth by the party room on the bay around 6:20 which was good. Started out rather well then went downhill. Unfortunately, we didn't get her name but our server was not very friendly. Seemed hurried and ignored us frequently. We had our clam chowder and entrees which we enjoyed, but there was no checking in for more drinks or "how is your meal". We sat for approximately 15 minutes after finishing our meal after walking past us several times before she stopped by and asked if we would be having dessert. We said we would like to order dessert, before we could get her our dessert order, she dropped off the menus and scurried off. After another 15 minutes the manager ( nice blonde lady) asked if we needed anything. She then brought us our coffee and said our waitress would be by to get our dessert order. We sat their about 20 more minutes without our cherry pie before we decided to leave after our coffee was cold...As we were walking to the hostess to pay our bill that's when our waitress came to us.( we were already at the door trying to pay.) We tried to be understanding and said, "we noticed you had too many tables." at which the hostess said " she's the best." Then the waitress said to us "I can handle it!" I wanted to give her an out for the bad service, but she had the gall to say she could handle it. If she's the best I'd hate to see the worst. The manager saw us leaving and came over to apologize. Gave us some free dessert/appetizers cards. The manager was trying which we appreciated. The waitress didn't even bother to apologize. If service is bad, doesn't matter how good their food is. I have enjoyed going to Hearthfire for many years for family reunions. They have always had amazing food and excellent service. I recently went there for a special occasion, my grandmothers 90th birthday May 3rd. Our server Eric S was rude, forgot items and made us feel like we were an inconvenience to him. We were seated by the windows overlooking the docks and saw numerous bugs on the inside of the windows. Bringing this to Eric's attention he said it wasn't his department. We went out for a work dinner, and am getting less fond of Anthony's and the Hearthfire Grill, each time I've dined here. The atmosphere is nice and always enjoy sitting by the windows to see the sunset and boats on the water. The restaurant nice and elegant, service is friendly and helpful, but feel their food is just not what it used to be. I ordered the Sunset Special; offering an appetizer, salad, main entree, and dessert. I select the Shrimp Cocktail to start, which was okay. They used the tiny little shrimp. Then I selected the Caesar Salad, which was again okay. I ten selected the Rockfish with mango salsa for the entree, and was very disappointed. The rockfish was so overly seasoned, that I literally ate just the one bite. The fish tasted over cooked and so heavily coated in very salty seasoning, that I didn't eat it. Then was dessert, which we had to take to-go because it was getting late, so choice the mouse, which again, was only okay. I used to really enjoy coming here, but the food is overpriced and just isn't what it used to be. I put all of the gratuity on one card (personal card) and indicated this on bill for my work card which I said "gratuity on other card". Found out today that they added gratuity to my work card without my authorization - i.e. fraud. Never ever coming back and paying these fraudsters another dime. Joined a Meet-up group here. Location & decor is beautiful. Staff was super friendly and wonderful. I'm dinging this restaurant for failure to provide any type of vegan option. I had the waitress chat with the chef and he created a basic mix salad. They charged me $18 because they treated the special order like a Cobb even though they did not have to include the costlier dairy/meat ingredients. In this day/age/location, it's short-sighted and non-inclusive to not provide veg options at a reasonable cost. read more

Wow! What a great Happy Hour find, lasting longer than most--sweet as we were late arrivals. The view was beautiful from a dusky overcast early evening and into the dark of night. And it's easy to get a beautiful view here. The servers/bartenders at the rail were adorable--we loved David, our main guy. The drinks were cheap, generous and delicious. Lovely Cosmo and Lemon Drop at amazing HH prices. I've been really disappointed with burgers in B'ham--and this one was delish! (And cooked rare as I requested--which also seems rare in B'ham...) The pepperoni + sausage pizza was both delicious and cute as could be especially on its black and white-checked waxed paper. We loved the place! Will be back! read more

I had to park a little farther out in an underground parking lot. Also beware that there are two Anthony's restaurants, so be sure to go to the right one. I ordered the Dungeness crab and corn chowder, which really hit the spot. The crab meat was plentiful and chunky, just how I like it. However, the ribs I ordered were another story. Wow simply amazing food, service and ambience! We were in Bellingham hungry looking for a decent place to eat at, especially a steak house ! Came across this and gave it a try . Asked the server for a "nice seat" for two ! It was me and my husband and she did give us a wonderful seat by the windows and in a private section for two . Immediately our server came with a big smile and took our orders . Ordered their white wine and knife n fork Caesar salad and she brought us a basket of yummy garlic bread to go with it . That salad and bread was so delicious - a must have for sure ! I ordered Oscar Steak served with Dungeness Crab , salad and baked potato with béarnaise sauce . It was a 7 ounce Wagyu top sirloin and so moist flavourful and soft ! Loved loved loved it . My husband ordered their wagyu burger and he's a picky eater but absolutely loved it too. Stopped here for lunch on a weekday because my husband and I had an appointment in Bellingham. On the positive side, the location is great, there's free parking, and there is plenty of seating (indoor and outdoor). I suggest asking for a seat by the window, as we automatically got seated in an interior spot with a slightly obstructed view. The servers seemed friendly, and there are some cute paved paths just outside where you can take a walk after your meal. Unfortunately, our food was subpar, and I was disappointed in it. My husband got the BBQ chicken pizza, and it was overcooked, greasy, and bland. My fish burger was also kind of blah - the bun was huge and dry, the sauce tasted store bought, and the fish itself was kind of oily. The sweet potato fries were pretty good, but they came with ketchup only and would have been much tastier with a special dipping sauce or something. Service was excellent, but the food is very overpriced. The clam/cord chowder was the best part of my meal. I also ordered Halibut, which had a strawberry sauce on that was just BLAND, and a bland rice pilaf. The halibut was fresh and well cooked but not seasoned at all. I had to ask for salt and pepper to make it semi appetizing. Also, the Jar PIE desert was a joke, I would have been embarrassed to serve it, and I think my server was! I was a very very small portion of a strawberry cheesecake. I did discuss the meal with my server as he asked how I liked the halibut, and I told him... he said he would pass it on, but for a solo meal and a $67 bill before tip, it just wasn't worth it. Went for the Early Bird $26 Four Course Dinner and was pleasantly surprised... -BAY SHRIMP COCKTAIL excellent...definitely a cut above average...nice little mixed salad underneath with lettuce, cabbage, celery and carrots -CAESAR SALAD excellent...crispy fried parmesan instead of croutons added a nice touch -POTATO ENCRUSTED COD good...the sides of Mashed Potatoes and Steamed Broccoli excellent -CHOCOLATE MOUSSE ok...odd that it came with an oreo crust on the bottom The only FAIL of the meal was the small batch VODKA MARTINI...very watered down, don't know if they left it too long in the shaker or the ice wasn't cold enough but definitely MEH...followed it up with a locally brewed Pilsner which was quite nice. Took the family out for my daughters birthday dinner. The server was amazing let's start with that, very well mannered and attentive. We ordered everything from the starters to the steaks and some seafood off the very limited menu tonight. Ordered the steak strips, tried to order them medium and was informed they only come medium well or well, guess what they were chewy strips of steak. The shrimp cocktail was frozen shrimp from Safeway at best with some cocktail sauce added. Steaks should have been at least been seasoned with salt and pepper, meh at best. The chicken dinner was pretty lackluster at best. Would have been better off hitting Galos for the chicken dinner and Steakhouse 9 in Lynden for the steaks. Overall probably won't be back. read more

Happy Hour View. Three words to describe the reason to go here. Inexpensive nibbles that usually cost a fortune, along with some good- yes, good is the exact word I wanted- happy hour wines. I have been to Anthony's for almost every meal imaginable. Lunch, Happy Hour, Dinner AND the three course sunset special. (Which was actually lovely, if you can eat dairy. I can't anymore.) The waitstaff are consistently attentive and amiable, and the views are dreamy, but the food is also...again, dare I say it, just "good". Perhaps I need to suck it up and purchase their fancy dishes- I hear AWESOME reviews about some of their surf plates...but why can't it all taste incredible? Their happy hour is daily and hosts a few pretty good bites to enjoy while you grab a drink and take in the sunshine. I wish they'd level out the tables on their patio. I recently dined at the Hearthfire with my family and was dismayed and irritated to find not a single vegan item on the menu, with the exception of the house salad. Really not the place to go unless you want your food drenched in butter and very meat centric. Went here my first night in Bellingham. We sat outside which was nice but they lack umbrellas for shade and the sun in my face was a bit harsh. The food was great. I had the Alaskan Halibut with garlic mashed potatoes and sugar snap peas. Amazing meal, probably the best fish I've ever had. It had great flavor and was cooked perfectly. I don't know if I'll ever get back this way but if I do, this will be the first place I eat at. Maybe next time they'll get a few more umbrellas for the patio. Wasn't sure about this place - it doesn't present well, but it is really good. So, simple start. If you drink, get the Roasted Pear Martini. I don't drink as I usually am driving, but the restaurant was a short walk and I got two. ;) Really, really good with a nice blend of cinnamon, sugar and pear and vodka. So the service is mediocre the food is mediocre, you're basically paying for a view which she could just go outside and sit on the grass and enjoy without paying a ridiculous amount below average food. Last year was a disaster at our home on Thanksgiving which we wished to avoid this year by having the holiday out and somewhere that was supposed to provide a special, relaxing, nice environment. Selecting Anthony's Hearthfire Grill was a mistake in that regard. Shortly after we had just placed our orders, the hostess decided to cram a boisterous birthday party of five in directly adjacent to the table I shared with my soft spoken companion even though the entire rest of the section was empty and she could have sat this loud large party away where they could carry on without destroying the ability of any one near by to have a dinner conversation as well. As I am soft spoken myself, it became impossible to communicate with my companion, and successfully with the waitress as well who ended up bringing my companion's food on a plate while mine came boxed (as I requested, since it had eventually become clear to me that it was going to be a struggle to enjoy my meal in this environment). She just couldn't hear us, we couldn't hear each other. The people adjacent to us couldn't be bothered to be considerate, they were busy enjoying each other's company as one is wont to do when eating at a spendy restaurant, and also one of them is super important, city council and all or whatever. That must be why they got table bread and we did not. Getting home and unpacking the food I discovered that my companion's desert was missing. Apparently the original order couldn't be boxed to go and my companion didn't want a substitution. The bill was not adjusted for this. They found the rest of their meal to be good. The food was basically decent, although I must say that I was shocked to get only two shrimp with my surf and turf. I know what the cost of shrimp is and these aren't spot prawns. There should have been more for the price. Also, they were over cooked and under seasoned. With only two on the plate, you don't want the impression to be "those were kinda tough". The steak was ok, it was done the way I asked, I'm just not a steak fan in general, not even fancy cuts impress me. The zucchini side is good (and simple) enough that I have copied it at home and had it on it's own for a meal before. It's at least mostly reliable as I have had very mixed experiences here. The first time I visited Anthonys Hearthfire, I ordered the smoked chicken meal and it was so dry that it was actually impossible to swallow without literally drinking from the water glass with the chicken still in your mouth. They ended up comping that meal. It was the only time in my life that has happened to me, and I was not pleased to have a 'free' plate. It was honestly a little embarrassing for me, and should have been for them too. But I decided I liked their dining room and the options on the rest of the menu enough to try it again after that bad first impression and my next several visits were indeed pleasant and enjoyable. Good food and environment, which is why I decided to trust them to repair our horrible Thanksgiving PTSD, and why this visit was so terribly disappointing that I honestly don't think I'll ever be back. If you want my recommendation for a nice place by the water to eat, I'd say try Nikkis Bella Luna (spelling might be off, sorry Nikki!). Skip the pretentious bs and child hostesses at Fireside who don't understand how to curate a dining experience that is enjoyable, and go to Nikkis. Their food is really good, far more consistent than Fireside, and the staff there are actual pros. read more

My family loves going here. It's a bit expensive but for the quality of food you get it's worth it. I always get the Fish and Chips and share with my 3 year old daughter, my husband gets oysters, and my 8 year old son loves the kids menu salmon. They have a roasted pear martini and it is amazing! The waiters and waitresses have all been great. The water view is great and they do a good job with the curtains so that you don't stare into the sun. It's always been very clean and the bussers seem to take their job seriously. We usually go here once a month and every time it's great. read more

It's right next to the Bellingham Hotel, and you're "with the crowd" at this location, as opposed to being in a more quiet, quaint setting like historic Fairhaven. Steaks are pricier here than at say Dirty Dan's in Fairhaven, so it just depends on what you're looking for. I had a smallish 9 oz American Kobe New York strip, but it was filling. read more
