I've been on a Thai kick as of late. Even during this damn pandemic and heatwave, I still find myself craving Yellow Curry Chicken and rice. And in my opinion, some of the best curries and rice dishes can be found at Arawan. I've never actually dined at their Sausalito restaurant - I've only done take-out via DoorDash. But I'm always amazed at how fast my food arrives (under 30 minutes). Although the food comes quickly, that doesn't mean that the quality has been sacrificed. Their yellow curry arrives piping hot and filled with a generous helping of chicken, potatoes, carrots, and onions. For just $12, this dish can easily feed two hungry people. However, since I'm a bachelor, I have enough food for two days. This time around, I also ordered the Spicy Basil Fried Rice $15) which comes with veggies, onions, spicy Thai krapow chili sauce, basil, chicken, and cucumber. I was very pleased with this flavor-packed dish. And again, they give you so much food for the price. The only disappointing thing I've had from here is the Chicken Vegetable Potstickers. They came with a small soy dipping sauce and spicy mustard. Unfortunately, they arrived luke warm and soggy. So next time around, I'll put that $8 toward another appetizer. Over all, Arawan delivers plenty of tasty bang for your buck. You could easily feed two to three people for $30 (minus tax/delivery fee). Arawan has very friendly service, reasonable prices, great food quality, and nice ambiance. We walked in around 4pm on a Sunday and were immediately greeted and seated. The restaurant itself was clean and tastefully decorated. We ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice, Chicken Sate, Fresh Shrimp Spring Rolls, and Ginger Tea. Everything was fresh, flavorful and not overly sweet or salty. The server was very polite and provided just the right amount of attention. This is a full five stars for Marin Thai food - I've tried just about every Thai spot in southern Marin and this is the only one I was excited to order takeout from again. (3.5 stars) Arawan offers very traditional Thai food that is very enjoyable but won't knock your socks off. It's super reasonably priced, and the hot tea with unlimited refills--while not my favorite--is hard to resist on a breezy Sausalito day. The service can be particularly slow though when it's somewhat crowded because usually only one person is working the tables. The presentation for my beef pad see ew was surprisingly pretty and ordering it spicy turned out to be actually somewhat spicy which was much appreciated. That said, the beef was very chewy so perhaps stick to a different meat when choosing between options. read more

We were visiting Bonita lighthouse near Sausalito when we realised we're really hungry and it would take over an hour to reach the city because of traffic. We instead found this thai restaurant on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The street parking was limited and but we finally managed to get a spot. The restaurant was decorated with pieces that looked from thailand and the ambience was like that of a house. The server took quite some time to come over and take our order even though the place was not crowded. We ordered the Tom Yum soup, Siamese rolls, basil fried rice, and panang curry. I love Arawan! They are a go-to comfort food place and they have the friendlies and fastest service, and their food is just so perfect for a quiet night of nesting. Their pad see ew, spicey eggplant, and green curry are a few of our favorites, but I haven't had something I don't like. One small anecdote to show how lovely they are. I left my entire purse (!) there one night and didn't realize until they were almost closed. They stayed after their closing time to make sure I got my purse and did it with a smile. I just start with this - i like the place :) Wel sometime my neighbour and i try to discover new places. Of course this is not a new place but we have never been here before. We headed over for lunch. Nothing at all to complain about the interior of the restaurant. At lunchtime they have a smaller menu which offers the choice of a combined starter and main for a reasonable price (at that time its 10,00 usd). Good choices on the menu, i think there is something for everyone. The also offer a few bigger main dishes when you are really hungry. We both ended up in taking the lunch special, which was just enough to live you not hungry. We had shrimps and chicken both have been delicious and they also take care of us hating cilantro (you hate it or you love it right?). After that a perfect coconut ice-cream and i am a happy camper. With an ice tea for free when you check in a yelper can i be more satisfied? No! Funny though when my neighbour asked me "do you like thai" i answered no. Look who is giving five stars now? My husband and I picked up to-go last night and this was our first time trying Arawan. We ordered online and arrived a bit early to pick up our order and it was already bagged and ready to go! The gentleman working was super nice and thanked us multiple times for our order. We ordered the papaya salad, curry chicken, spring rolls, pad see ew, with duck, and chicken satay, and sticky rice. Every single dish is a recommend! Lots of flavor, fresh ingredients, and not overly oily (especially the pad see yew which can be very oily at some Thai restaurants). What a delicious restaurant in an adorable part of Sausalito! The food was so fresh and had lots of fresh vegetables. I had the spicy basil fried rice with churn and prawns and my husband had the pad se ew with beef. Both dishes were great. The server was friendly. It took a little while to get our food and drink orders in but it was 8:00 (they closed at 8:30) and it was busy between preexisting tables and door dash orders so we didn't mind. The restaurant clean and has neat Thai artwork up. We really enjoyed it and hope to return. read more

Kao Soy here is absolutely amazing. The underlying curry sauce is among the best yellow curries in the bay, the ratio of curry to noodle to crispy noodle to protein is also right on the money, if anything curry heavy in the best possible way. read more

I wanted to get out of San Francisco for lunch rather than risk looking for a parking meter (which could take quite a bit of time), so I drove to Sausalito after touring the Golden Gate Bridge. Found this restaurant on Yelp and loved the reviews, so I took a chance. I found the food choices for lunch to be varied due to the many combinations that you could make. I wound up ordering a Parang Thai chicken dish with fluffy white rice as well as a vanilla & coconut ice cream dessert. The total bill for lunch was $22 before tip (we didn't order an appetizer and only had water w/lemon), which I thought was very reasonable for lunch. I'm so used to paying $40-50 for lunch at comparable SF venues, so I thought that Arawan was quite the deal. I found the customer service to be good. There was a young man that took care of myself and wife's ordering needs and I found him to be very timely. There must be 10 tables on the interior and 2-3 tables on the outside of the restaurant, which allows customers to have more attention with the servers whenever they aren't busy. For parking, I found a parking meter that in the area between the fire station and the police station located about 100 meters south of the restaurant. The meters take only quarters yet each quarter gives you 15 minutes. I'm definitely coming back when in Sausalito! read more

Came here with some really amazing friends and had a great time! The place is small and for some reason, your voice echos as you talk. We could hear almost every ones conversations around us! The service was great and fast. They are very kind here and listen with an ear to understand the customer. I felt that they truly love what they do and it shows in their hospitality. We ordered mostly family style so that we could taste an array of dishes. The only dish that I did not care for was the res curry other than that everything was flavorful and no need to add so much sauces or hot sauce to make it taste better. Their Pad Thai was full of flavor and had the right amount of salt as well as fish sauce. The sticky rice was really really good! The curry noodles was my favorite! It came with a yellow curry and it was delish! The sweet potato tempura fries were great as well! I dont eat meat anymore but my kids loved the chicken satay. The most surprising thing was how good their tea was! I had two cups and I am still thinking about having more again! Lol. Disclaimer: overall this place is a 4/5 however when it comes to consistent flavor and their pad see ew definitely a 3/5! I do love this place and the taste of the food BUT I realized that the pad see ew (my usual order) is inconsistent. Some days when I order take out it's amazing and have SO much flavor however a couple of times I ordered take out (like today) it's super bland! I just don't get why the flavor isn't consistent and it's super frustrating. Overall, the food is really great and I love their Thai iced tea but let's just keep the consistency! We had and loved: - Goong Gaborg We didn't realize it, but it was basically fried wontons filled with shrimp. - Dancing Prawns A red curry w/ prawns and pineapple. We enjoyed this dish as it was kind of a gussied up version of just regular red curry. Lots of prawns and although the pineapple was straight from the can, it was a nice addition to a curry. - Pad Ke Mow This is my favorite dish anywhere and it was especially good here. Ordered takeout for pickup here during covid using the yelp grubhub online order. The ordering was easy and the food was ready quickly. We got the pad thai with tofu, the tofu pumpkin stir fry, and the mango sticky rice for dessert. Everything we ordered was delicious, definitely one of the best thai meals we've had in a while. The pumpkin dish was something really unique that I hadn't had before, and the pad thai was great. Also really enjoyed the mango dessert, was simple but delicious.
