Location gets 5 stars.. bay view just across the street. Road from this place to GG takes you through interestingly steep uphill roads, we even saw a fox while driving back. Was open for lunch at 3pm, so we could eat hot food after hiking at Muir Woods. It's 10ish minutes away from pohono st park and ride shuttle stop. Food was good, quantity was decent. Great Thai food. Their fish plates are yummy! Definitely try the specials! Food is always hot, and the waitresses are always friendly. Arawan gets 5 stars for food and 4 stars for price. Wandered around downtown Sausalito for a place to have dinner but it seemed like just about every restaurant had the typical touristy/overpriced fare. We yelped it up and I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Favorite dishes were the Awaran Combo Lovers (a giant platter of assorted fried goodies) and pad kee mow. This is my favorite Thai place! The decor feels a little like a kitchen, which would usually be disqualifying for me, but the food is just great and the staff is so friendly. The Mun Todd is great -- skinny strips instead of big chunks, and there are too many great things on the menu to list but I'll give a special shout out to the curries, especially yellow and red. Seriously. BEST. Thai. Food. Ever. I don't think I've ever experienced heartbreak quite like when Arawan temporarily closed after a fire caused damage to the building. This has been--and always will be--my favorite Thai restaurant. I'm overjoyed that it's back and more delicious than ever! The tastes in the food are exquisite, and there are so many dishes to choose from. The lunch special is definitely the best bang for your buck, but dinner is well-priced too. At lunch you get to choose an appetizer and entree, and it comes with a side salad and rice (I recommend paying the extra $1 to substitute sticky rice for regular jasmine rice). The food was mixed, some of it was decent, others borderlining on practically inedible. The Tom Yum soup was extremely saline and when we ordered the Vegetarian soup for our mother, who's a vegetarian per religion, she could taste the strong scent of fish sauce used. The Pad Thai was mediocre at best and the tofu looked like dry cactus suffering through a drought and tasted the same. The worst part about this restaurant however, was its service. They missed taking the orders of 4 out of the 11 people in our party. Not only that, but the cashiers also attempted to overcharge us about $30, claiming it was "gratuity" when they had already charged gratuity to the bill beforehand. Note: If you come in a party of 5 or more, split up into different tables and don't associate with one another. There's a 18% tip for a party of 5 or more. Don't bother looking for it on the wall of the restaurant, it's in really small font at the back of the menu. The text states "We may be charging a 18% gratuity fee for parties of 5 or more." But don't be fooled, it's always 18%. (Confirmed by Cashier) They charge you gratuity after tax, which shouldn't be happening, so make sure you check your receipt. read more

They've always been great to us, the food has always been very tasty but I'm giving 4 out of 5 stars because of what I saw them using once in the kitchen. Frozen big-name chicken. To me, that calls for a reduction in rating. Other than that, great food. Also, no pumpkin option for curry on their Uber Eats which you can get when you call or go in, not as big of a deal as the ingredients. That being said, it is very tasty. read more

This is a relatively new restaurant about 7 months old according to the server. It's located in Saucilito just off the marina in a quiet part of town. A must stop for some great Thai food if you're visiting the bay area. I had the fried crispy tofu with peanut sauce and the pineapple fried rice along with some Pad Thai which is a classic Thai cuisine. I, being one who is more focused on the olfactory-taste-bud-stimulation experience of an eating establishment, did not find the color-design clash perturbing at all.. even when it was pointed out to me..(it *had* to be pointed out to me).. I *did* find Arawan's curry plate with the mango-chicken.. mmmm.. good and doled spoonfuls and spoonfuls of the stuff over my brown rice. My sister.. a Sausalito house boat resident and a semi-regular of this place confessed that despite their clashing place settings.. the Curried Salmon plate is what keeps her coming back.. If they ever *did* bother to provide matching place settings, and redesign the interior as opposed to the cheap route they go now.. you can be sure that the menu prices would rise also.. read more

I started working in the area a few weeks ago and I'm so glad Arawan is within walking distance for lunch! It's hard to gauge the yelp reviews in the area a because the quantity of reviews is so much lower than in SF, but 4 stars sounds perfect for this place. The lunch specials can't be beat! For $9, you get two items (you can mix any two items from the lunch special list), a small salad with peanut sauce, and a tapioca dessert. The quality of the food is really good too! So far, I've had the pad thai, yellow curry (forgot the name) and the spicy calamari. The place doesn't look like much, but the service has been very friendly and welcoming. Since I'm still new to the area, I have been trying a different restaurant every day. This is the first one I've come back to and I definitely will be back again soon. read more

I love love this place! I just moved to Sausalito and looked for a Thai restaurant immediately. Thai food is definitely in my family's cooking. I found this place away from the tourists and felt so 'at home.' The owners treated me like a guest in their home - almost like family. The red curry with [insert your favorite meat] - even avocado - is so good . . . I save the sauce and have it with rice for leftovers. Yeah, that good. The food is on the pricier end (which is why there are 4 stars) but it's my local Thai restaurant - for now. The desserts are good too - tapioca pudding is my favorite there. Enjoy! read more

The food here is really good, but the service here is sh*tty beyond belief. They either need to hire more servers or just hire new ones because they were not attentive at all. We had to physically get up off of our seats to ask for anything it was that bad. More than once might I add. And the worst part is, they add 18% gratuity to the bill, so there's no incentive for them to even give you good service in the first place. We ordered chicken red curry, shrimp arawan, brown rice, pad thai. pad see ew, and tom kee (?) soup, all of which tasted excellent. BEST PAD KEE MAO I'VE EVER HAD, EVERY SINGLE TIME. I can understand why this was Robin Williams's favorite restaurant in Marin. Seeing pictures of him on the walls in the entryway warmed my spirit. I immediately felt at home and sent up a little prayer for his family. The table was perfect: next to the window, overlooking passerbyers and Christmas lights hanging from neighboring establishment rooftops. The room was just quiet enough for conversation over a really delicious, full-bodied house cab, but loud enough that each conversation had a privacy of its own. Green chicken pumpkin curry, on the spicier side: perfection. Brown rice: perfectly sticky and soft. Pad kee mao: absolute perfection. Hostess seats quickly. Waitress was friendly and just attentive enough, leaving an appropriate amount of dining/chatter/sipping wine time in between. The food came out RIGHT AWAY. Hot, perfectly seasoned, balanced and full flavors. I frequent many Thai places in Marin, and have many great recommendations if that's the cuisine you're searching for. But Arawan Thai Cuisine gets the coveted top spot. Simply, the best. read more

After reading the reviews, I think my hopes were a little too high. This restaurant is nicely arranged with interesting decor. The waitresses wear neat little outfits (I'm assuming "traditional" Thai 'fits but I wouldn't know) and are super super friendly. We were seated quickly and ordered an appetizer and two entrees. The Angel Wings (spelled Angle Wings on the menu...hehehe) were perfect. Topped with crispy fried basil, the fried wings were bathed in a sweet hot sauce that really does rival any wing sauce I've had. My friend ordered the ginger chicken which he described as "good". My entree, the green curry chicken, was decent but definitely not the best I've ever had. Folks can say what they may about Sacramento but the truth is that there are some incredible places to eat around here and, sorry to say (they really were friendly and the place was pretty) Arawan didn't measure up to my standards. The curry was okay but a little bland. The vegetables were overcooked. The brown rice was tasty and was cooked just right. I would probably go back to this restaurant if someone else were picking up the tab. That is to say it isn't a "must" for the next time I'm in Sausilito. read more

Mom and Pop feel is right! You walk in the door and there are framed photos of the Thai royalty (I think) and it gives this feeling that they're going to walk through the door any moment. OMG-curries! Flavors are phenomenally well balanced. Our appetizer was served on a wooden lazy Susan filled with dried shrimp, toasted coconut, red onion, green pepper, dried ginger root and lime that you pile onto a spinach leaf and dab a yummy sauce on top of. The owner asked us if we knew how to eat it and we said, "no". She said, "than why did you order?" It was so funny! I've been to this place 3 times, and I'd say 2 out of 3 times it was good. I always order the same dish: pad see ew with tofu. I know, boring...but I love that dish so much that every time I order something else I wish I had ordered that. Anyhow, I've come here a few times for lunch with my co-workers. I appreciate that they're pretty quick so we're in and out pretty quickly. There's a good selection of lunch combos, so it keeps everyone happy. The last time I was there the pad see ew was a little bland...but I think they were just having an off day. Funny/weird story: The co-worker ordered a combo and asked, "can I just get plain rice noodle instead of rice?" The waitress shook her head and said, "no." Then he said "what if I paid more for the rice noodle?" She shook her head and said, "no." "Can I just get a side of rice noodle, you can still bring out the rice. I'll pay for the rice noodles." "No." I'm not sure why they wouldn't give him the rice noodles. He was offering to pay....it's extra money. No idea. We've now referred to this waitress as the rice noodle nazi. read more
