The Asador is located in the Renaissance Hotel next to Market Hall in Dallas. The atmosphere is very casual yet sophisticated - very nicely decorated and lots of friendly people. FOOD: Surprisingly good, I ate there twice this weekend and had the hamburger and the brisket sandwiches. Both were very good, I would order them again. The sides are special - I actually ate brussel sprouts which were terrific along with a side of mushrooms which were as good as I've had anywhere! SERVICE: We sat ourselves (at lunch it was a bar type atmosphere) and were promptly waited on by a competent server - well done. I was attending the Dallas Guitar Show so the majority of the people there were participants or visitors to the show. Overall, when I'm in Dallas, I will stop there again for the brisket sandwich and mushrooms! Our experience was awful! The service was bad, the food was atrocious, and the price was inappropriate! We took my family for Mother's Day and were expecting an under $30/person meal as Open Table advertised. The "brunch" was $40/person and had no flavor. Had we known that the buffet was the only option, we would't have even considered it (3/4 of our group are seniors who eat very little). The live band was awful and too loud for a Sunday meal. If I'd had the slightest idea of how expensive and awful this place was, I would have taken my family to the Ritz, the Mansion at Turtle Creek, or the W Hotel and spent the same or less (@$40/per). I would never pay more then $12/per for the crap that was served at this place. Utterly disappointed. read more

I have been frequenting this hotel for almost 18 years. The restaurant has had a couple of different names in that period as have many of the restaurants around Dallas. The Market was going and yet the place was quite empty. The decorations were quite nice and gave the room a nice feel. The food was really just ok. We had the Mac n Cheese which had a handful of big hard knots of bacon in it. Also the Flatiron. The meat was good but it appeared we got only half an order for the price we paid. To top it all off we handed the waiter a 22% tip and he proceeded to fraudulently add an additional 15% tip to our card. This happened even after what appeared to be a manager greeted us at the table and was aware of the 22% tip. I cant see why anybody would make a repeat visit to " The Asador ".. read more

Let's start with the obvious: this is a hotel restaurant. Now that it's out of the way, things can be a little less biased. I totally expected my food to be bland chicken with weird grill marks, but the Asador surprised me. Their thing is local (other than seafood apparently) so their menu changes quite a bit. I'm not sure how true to the concept they stay, but it was there. I wasn't super hungry when I went the first time so I ordered the pork sliders which came with a slightly spicy (think sriracha) slaw, the grilled asparagus, and the macaroni and cheese. I was worried the mac & cheese was going to be soupy (pet peeve), but it wasn't. The cheese was pretty mild, and the pasta was maybe slightly under al dente. It is topped with breadcrumbs and a almost too much very salty ham. The asparagus was just slightly under cooked, which beats over cooked in my book. My partner in crime ordered the steak and loved it. The second time we went, I ordered the chicken fried steak. It might have been the mood I was in, but I personally did not enjoy it. The breading had a weird flour feel. I wanted a salad and the waitered suggested a half order of the pear walnut salad. It was really good. A little heavy on the dressing so maybe consider getting the dressing on the side. But a very good salad. Reordered the mac and cheese because apparently New Year''s resolutions don't stick with me. Also went for the banana not pudding in a jar. It was a pretty small serving if you were thinking of splitting it. It was good, not great. Overall, this is really good for a restaurant in a hotel. The real question is would I want to come back if I was not staying in the Renaissance. I'm not sure. read more

OK Dallas, why aren't you packing this restaurant on a daily basis? Because it is in a hotel? Get over it, quickly!! This restaurant is top notch farm to table (fire in their words) approach to cooking that is so needed. Starting off with cold martinis was a good start to a fabulous meal. If you go, you have to get the mussels cooked in a fiery broth. Be sure to request extra crostini to savor that wonderful sambal broth. I split the roasted chicken with my colleague and was surprised that it was more than enough to fill the both of us. Half a chicken cooked on their mesquite grill was juicy and crisp on the outside. Accompanying the chicken was the most delicious chorizo sausage in what tasted like a grits based concoction. Mmmm, it went down smooth and quickly. We asked for grilled veggies that were fire cooked and couldn't finish the vast amount they gave us. I was stuffed and so glad I did not let the hotel fear of restaurants keep me away. Not impressed. Came downtown to meet out niece for a drink. There were 4 seats at the bar and we were told 2 of them were being held for 2 people that weren't there. Sat there for 5 minutes in that time the bartender asked another patron to vacate the seats. Then a younger girl sat down and he allowed her to stay. Pretty rude. Seared Scallops were perfectly cooked, so tender and flavorful. Flat iron steak was my favorite - had it a couple times and later learned to order mine medium as their medium rare was a tad too rare for my taste. The medium was plenty pink inside. Pork Chop was excellent - huge! I don't like their salad dressing much - too salty and tangy. Guacamole was not that good but i have to say their quesadilla must be the best I've had . Mesquite Roasted Chicken was good with mushrooms and black eyed peas. The Mexican choc panna cotta was out of this world, served in a small glass pot. Banana cream pie in the pot was good as well. Food is blah and the service is worse. NIce people working but they're not waiters or waitresses. Couldn't recommend anything, didn't ask how our food was, took my 1/4 eaten plate without asking if I'd like a box (I wouldn't- the beef rice bowl was horrible -- no taste whatsoever!). We stopped in for a quick afternoon snack, and were very impressed by the service we received being that it was at an in-between lunch and dinner hour, as well as the amazing food that was served. We only ordered the gazpacho and the texas toast grilled cheese, but both were great. The gazpacho was good, not mind blowing, but still very tasty. The grilled cheese however was outstanding. Melted brie cheese between two thick pieces of grilled texas toast with truffle? Yes please. The server was extremely polite and attentive, and we were never left looking around wondering where he was. We will definitely be back for dinner when we can fully appreciate this wonderful gem of a restaurant. read more

We were in town for the Thanksgiving holiday visiting family and stayed at the Renaissance hotel. My husband and I decided to try Asador for dinner because it was a holiday and nothing else was open. It was delicious! He had the seabass special and ate every morsel. I tried the pear salad--absolutely wonderful. The sweet basil and vanilla vinaigrette with the pears and spicy pecans, so good! We frequented the bar each night after a day of visiting family to wind down with a glass of wine and small bite appetizer. Very relaxing and excellent food. read more

Love the hotel however the brunch buffet was just okay. As a Marriott platinum I member I thought the dining experience would have been a bit nicer but it wasn't terrible. I would definitely stay in the hotel again but would probably opt out of dining at the restaurant again. read more

A great restaurant in a hotel certainly not a hotel restaurant. Farm to plate menu had lots of choices and a wide variety of prices with entrees from $8 to $48. Because it's tucked away in the lobby of the Renaissance hotel, which is one of my favorite combinations in Dallas of comfort and value, Agador is one of the better kept secrets in town. Stay here at the hotel and there's no need to stray for dinner. Enjoy their excellent wine list, extensive and seasonally changing menu, outstanding farm fresh quality, inventive dishes, and friendly service. This place is fantastic. It really is a 'farm to fire' concept, as they say...everything they serve is locally grown or homemade. We got the mussels and brussel sprouts with bacon for appetizers, and I ordered the catfish as an entree - something I wouldn't normally go for, but it was delicious with Asian inspired bold flavors. We went on a Tuesday and the place was pretty empty, but still a great atmosphere. I took a coworker and some clients. We were extremely impressed with our server, Allison. She was very knowledgeable and passionate about the food and menu. We kept asking her questions just to hear her describe each dish. We wanted to ask her to sit with us. Tried the shishito peppers. Just grilled with lime salt. I added fresh squeezed lime. Very good but had a little kick. Local beer brined chicken wings with habanero agave sauce with kimchi. A sweet heat great kimchi. The next one is a first. Texas steak tartare. Piquillo pepper, egg gribiche, cilantro, crustini. Awesome on the crustini. Loved the egg salad and steak tartare. Tried it with balsamic reduction and soy sauce but it masked the flavor a little to much. read more

I would give this place 5 stars (it's 5 stars for most restaurants within a hotel) but the menu is just a tad too limited. All of the food here is very good and the service for dinner at the bar has always been top notch. If you can, eat at the bar; the bartenders are outstanding. Breakfast and lunch are both very good as well. No complaints. read more

Ordered the burger, wish I could tell you how it tasted. I ordered it to go, when it was ready the bar tender went over to get it. Guess there was something hilarious in my to go container, because the bar tender and and four waitresses were all looking in the bag and container and laughing hysterically. I couldn't be any more excited about this restaurant! I came in for a convention and stayed at a different location and came to this hotel daily to eat. The ingredients are local and amazing!!! Stellar restaurant with great service! We went for Valentines Day this year. It was our second Valentines with Asador. They told me over the phone that the full menu would be available. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Instead they offered a Valentines menu and a condensed version of the regular menu. The things my wife and I wanted to order weren't available anymore. This was very disappointing. We considered leaving, but thought we'd ask if there was any way to make the regular menu items. Unfortunately, there wasn't. But, the assistant manager was very gracious and apologetic. He offered us an appetizer and 1 round of drinks to compensate for the unfortunate surprise. Even though we didn't get the exact food we wanted, it was delicious. All the food is locally sourced from DFW area farms and is prepared very well. We started with Diabolo Wings, had flat iron steak for our entrees, and ended with chocolate cake and tequila Creme brûlée. Everything was top notch! This restaurant has the type of service and food that will keep me coming back for years. As a previous server at a restaurant with very high food and service standards, I can honestly say that this is one of the best restaurants in Dallas. read more

I've stayed at the Renaissance four times now over the course of four months and have eaten at the Asador each time. I have really enjoyed each meal (breakfast, hamburgers, fish) and the waitstaff is really friendly. I would certainly recommend to anyone staying at the Renaissance or in the nearby area. We went to this establishment for a rehearsal dinner. The wait staff complained from the minute we sat down that we had more in the party than we reserved. Before the waiter started taking orders he made the statement that no one should change seats after the order was taken??? Who change seats in a restaurant??? Another waiter asked rudely if we need help with menu--We were waiting on the quest of honor to arrive to order. No one came around to refill drinks or give you original drink request. Food was very bland--definitely not worth the money. I will not return to this restaurant.I would have given a rating of -5 stars if possible. read more

What a gem of a restaurant. Four of us who live in Oak Cliff wanted to get away from the crowd in Bishop Arts on a Friday night, and I've had Asador in the back of my mind for awhile. Wonderful food, wonderful waiter, and for those at the table who are cocktail-adventurous, some interesting and tasty drinks. PARKING, they have parking! And best of all, for four friends who don't get together as often as we should, the opportunity to sit and visit without being hovered over because the table needed to be flipped. We decided to go downtown for our Anniversary just to get out and celebrate. The restaurant had a great variety from which to choose. We started out with the meat and cheese charcuterie board...AMAZING! My husband had the Kansas City Steak and I had the Scallops. Both meals were cooked perfectly. We even decided to get the brussels sprouts and Mac n cheese as sides....we ate way too much but it was all wonderful. The BEST part of the meal was our server, Yesy!
