Asia Live? not quite alive...yet Date: 7/2/2026 (Still in Soft Opening Phase) 3/5 Stars overall 5/5 staff 2/5 for the food and service (Needs work) I really wanted to love Asia Live because I think Valley Fair could use a great modern Asian restaurant, and I genuinely hope this place succeeds. It has a lot of potential, but based on our visit, it still feels like it's working through some opening growing pains. Service: The staff were all incredibly friendly, welcoming, and professional. There were plenty of employees on the floor, although it was surprising that the restaurant felt fairly empty on a Thursday evening considering all the hype surrounding the opening. One area that could improve is coordination between the front and back of house, as the pacing of service felt a bit disorganized. Ambiance: This was easily one of the highlights. The restaurant is beautiful, with a modern Asian-inspired design that feels like a celebration of Asian culture. It's a great-looking space and somewhere you'd want to spend time. Food: We ordered the xiao long bao, mapo tofu, and the chocolate matcha lava cake. The xiao long bao was unfortunately the biggest disappointment. The soup lacked depth and mostly tasted like dough water, while the pork filling had very little seasoning beyond pork and white pepper. The pleating also wasn't very refined, which affected both the presentation and texture. With Din Tai Fung located just downstairs, this dish faces some very tough competition. At $20 for six dumplings, I expect a xiao long bao that is both beautifully crafted and packed with rich, flavorful broth. I think the kitchen would benefit from spending more time refining its folding technique and recipe because this signature dish should really be a standout. The mapo tofu had good overall flavor, but the consistency was much too thin. Instead of the rich, stew-like texture you'd expect, the sauce was extremely watery and poured right off the spoon. It also could have used more ground meat and a stronger kick from the Sichuan peppercorns to give it more depth and numbing spice. For dessert, we tried the chocolate matcha lava cake. Unfortunately, there wasn't any lava in the center at all. The cake was served cold, and I kept biting into solid pieces of chocolate, which suggested the center hadn't fully melted. I think baking it a little longer would allow the chocolate to become properly molten and deliver the experience the dessert promises. That said, the flavor combination of chocolate and matcha was enjoyable, and I liked the overall taste profile. One other issue was the wait time. Our food took quite a while to arrive, especially considering the restaurant wasn't busy. Improving kitchen speed and overall pacing would make a big difference to the dining experience. Overall, I left feeling optimistic rather than disappointed. The foundation is there: a beautiful restaurant, genuinely kind staff, and an ambitious concept celebrating Asian cuisine. I think Asia Live has the potential to become a destination restaurant at Valley Fair once they fine-tune the recipes, improve consistency, and smooth out service operations. I'll definitely give them another chance after they've had some time to settle in, and I hope they're able to live up to the excitement surrounding the restaurant. I will come back because the staff was so nice and receptive to our feedback. But will wait a few months for them to smooth out the kinks. My friend and I visited Asia Live today. The ambiance and overall restaurant design were beautiful, and considering they recently opened, the service was acceptable. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing, especially given the price point. We ordered the Hong Kong fried noodles with chicken ($25), and there was barely any chicken in the dish. It was also overly seasoned. The xiaolongbao ($17) came with only six pieces, and the filling was overcooked and lacked the flavor and texture you would expect from proper soup dumplings. The most disappointing dish was the Banh Xeo Pad Thai. The shrimp in the first plate was raw in the center. We brought this to the manager's attention, and while they did remake the dish, the second version came out with undercooked noodles. What made the experience even more frustrating was the lack of management involvement. The manager never came to our table to apologize or discuss a resolution. Instead, he sent the server to apologize on his behalf. For a restaurant charging premium prices, I expected much better food quality control and customer service. While the atmosphere is nice, I would not recommend this restaurant if you're looking for good food and attentive service. read more

The dining room is open with most seats able to see the action in the open kitchen. "Our #1 Seller Famous Sheng Jian Bao 'Sjb'" had tender dough with a crisp bottom holding a well-seasoned filling with soup. Chef Chen's Famous Sichuan Blistered Green Beans were tender and with the salted plum brightening the dish with a bit of acidity and the mushroom paste adding depth. Tandoori Butter Chicken Nuggets were grilled on a skewer with just the right amount of spice and char and came with a cilantro chutney and a sweet chutney. Taiwan "Most Loved" Lu Rou Fan Braised Minced Pork Rice Bowl has a light five-spice seasoning and the richness is well balanced with the pickled cabbage and blanched bok choy Sesame Soft Serve/Mango Shaved Ice and Cindy's Pineapple Walnut Spice Carrot Cake for dessert capped the meal perfectly as they were sweet and clean, not cloying. The restaurant is new, so we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to how great it looked. The "fusion" felt more like confusion. We ordered several dishes, hoping at least one would stand out, but sadly none of them tasted good. We were so disappointed that when the server asked how everything tasted, we honestly didn't know how to respond politely. The dumplings didn't taste like dumplings at all--I would honestly choose the Costco ones over these. The fried rice was bland and oddly soft. We had the duck with the sesame buns. The duck was excellent. The hollow sesame buns were just too hard and dry IMO. At $34, I feel we can do better. We had the shrimp toast. The toast was very buttery which took away from the shrimp flavor. We had the broccoli and mushrooms. Let's just say they might as well call it mushroom and Chinese broccoli chips. We read a lot about this new place in Valley Fair, and gave it a try today. The hostess provided three menus, but the so called signature dishes are also in the regular menu. The third menu covers sushi and other Japanese dishes. The decor is open, casual but classy. Not stuffy or pretentious like its predecessor iChina. The staff is responsive even though not particularly attentive. We ordered three dishes. The baked pork buns were quite good, but at five dollars a piece, they are 30 to 40% higher than the high-end dim sum places around here. The second dish was the shrimp toast with kaya. Immediate reaction after the dish arrived was "where is the shrimp"? This is a pan-fried brioche sandwich with a thin layer of chopped shrimp in the center and a dollop of kaya on top. Definitely not worth $22. The last dish was the Shanghai Fat Chow Mein which was so salty we had to send it back. They used some kind of sweet bean sauce for this noodle dish and put way too much sauce in the noodles. To resolve our complaint, I think they simply added more plain noodles and stir-fried it again to tone down the sauce. It was somewhat better, but still too salty for my taste. My friend and I came here on a Tuesday night and were seated almost immediately. The restaurant is tucked behind the market in the front, making it feel like a hidden gem. The space was clean, inviting, and the staff made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. We ordered quite a few dishes: Salmon Poke with edamame and wonton chips Famous Sheng Jian Bao (SJB) Daily Made Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings "Best" Butter Garlic Noodles Bangkok Tamarind Basil Glazed Baby Back Ribs Charred Chinese Gailan with Oyster Mushrooms Overall, the food was delicious. The Sheng Jian Bao were excellent--the crispy, pan-fried bottom paired perfectly with the soft dumpling wrapper, and the pork filling had a wonderful ginger flavor. The butter garlic noodles were simple but very satisfying, with a nice prominent black pepper flavor that really stood out. The absolute star of the meal was the Bangkok tamarind basil glazed baby back ribs. They were incredibly flavorful, tender, and easily my favorite dish of the night. I would come back just for those. The charred gai lan was also very good. Personally, I would have loved a little oyster sauce, but the vegetables were nicely charred and the oyster mushrooms were a great addition. I also have to mention their house chili bean sauce--it was so good that I ended up buying a jar from the market before leaving! The only dish that wasn't a favorite was the salmon poke. It tasted a bit fishier than I prefer, so I probably wouldn't order it again. What really impressed me, though, was the service. We had originally ordered the Shanghai Xiao Long Bao, but after waiting, our server came back to let us know they had unfortunately sold out and kindly offered us a complimentary dessert. Later, when we were ready to leave, we had to ask for the check a few times and ended up waiting about 20-30 minutes. The staff sincerely apologized and even packed an order of ribs for us to take home at no charge. Mistakes happen, but it's how a restaurant responds that matters, and they handled everything with genuine kindness, generosity, and a great sense of humor. Despite the small hiccups, the hospitality left a lasting impression. Between the warm, friendly staff, the delicious food, and the extensive menu, this is definitely a place I'll be returning to. While the grand opening preview event itself was rescheduled only once, the soft opening timeline and opening dates have been unclear, making it difficult to know exactly when the venue was officially opening and what events were taking place. The venue also appeared unfinished, with construction work still underway during the event. For something promoted as a grand opening preview, it did not feel fully ready for guests. Unfortunately, the food was underwhelming and did not meet expectations. In addition, goodie bags were offered, but there were not enough for all attendees, leaving many guests without one. I understand that opening a new business is a complex process, but paying guests should expect a more polished and organized experience. We dined on Father's Day, day 3 of their opening! I do realize that it's a new restaurant so I'll try to be nice and candid with my feedback. First...the hosts and server were nice, but they seem to be very unorganized and all over the place. Our server ask if we wanted to start with water and then he walks off after we said yes. He didn't even ask if we were interested in a cocktail, beer and/or wine, etc., which was surprising. When he came back with the water, he was about to walk off again, but we stopped him to order drinks. Once my husband ordered a beer, he was about to take off, but I stopped him to ask for a glass of wine and a soda. Let's just say that customer service needs some work and refinement. The ambiance and noise level were fine to me, no issues there. Now let's talk about the food...we ordered the lettuce cups which were decent in taste, but it really was nothing special at all. It was very reminiscent of CPK's or P.F. Chang's version of lettuce wraps to be honest and I think CPK's is better. Definitely not worth the $25 price for this item when you can go to CPK's for almost half the price. We also ordered the Peking Duck with Kumquat sauce in a sesame pocket for $30. It comes with 5 pockets. We were not really sure what the pockets were all about, but basically like a hot pocket. We didn't like the pocket at all. It was very dry with no type of egg wash on it. We would have preferred a traditional bun or mu-shu wrapper. The peking duck and the kumquat sauce was tasty though. One of the pocket seemed to be missing the kumquat sauce which made it double dry due to the dry sesame seed pocket. Would not order again. In addition to the two starters, we also ordered the HK pan fried crispy noodle and Tokyo sweet and sour tonkatsu. The crispy noodles needed to be crispier or on the side. Otherwise, the flavors were decent, a little salty and could have had more chicken. The portion seemed small for a $25 noodle dish. Would not order again. As for the $38 Tokyo sweet and sour Tonkatsu, it was a total bust! It was made with the funkiest sweet and sour sauce ever! Like a tonkatsu sauce mixed with balsamic vinegar or something. It had the weirdest smell and taste! We did not like it at all. The other unlikable thing about the dish was its presentation. It was a whole tonkatsu cut up in square pieces and the weird sweet and sour sauce either added on top or the cut up tonkatsu pieces was tossed in the sauce, and the pineapple pieces were very tiny! We first thought it was corn pieces!! I would have liked larger pieces of pineapple or just leave it out if they were going to be so tiny. They should have breaded individual pork tenderloin pieces in tonkatsu breading/panko instead of the cut up tonkatsu to weird looking flat squares. Sorry Chef Chen, but this pork dish was an epic fail and was way overpriced! I would not recommend this dish at all. The other issue that I have is the high price point for many of the dishes which isn't really worth the value, but I understand they probably have a very high rent at Valley Fair. I'm willing to pay the price if the food was extraordinary, but it needs major improvement right now before I go back. Ok, so this was my honest feedback. We were hoping that AsiaLive would bring back some of Chef Chen's awesome dishes from his Betelnut days, but so far we are not impressed. However, because we loved Betelnut so much in the late 90s, we are willing to go back to AsiaLive and try other dishes until we find something similar and fabulous like the Betelnut days. Like many new restaurants, it is experiencing a few growing pains, but the food is very good and the staff is kind and welcoming. The sea bass was absolutely amazing and cooked to perfection. I also tried the sesame soft serve for dessert. It was unique, flavorful, and not overly sweet--very satisfying! I understand that some guests may have been disappointed for various reasons, but I encourage you to give Asia Live another try. I've been waiting to try this place for well over a year, but unfortunately, I was disappointed when we finally ate here. While our servers were nice and helpful, some of them seemed untrained--especially when they tried to hide the fact that they had mistakenly brought our food to another table by circling around the restaurant before serving us. The food itself was mediocre. The meats were dry and tough, even though they were supposed to be thin, tender, and juicy. While the food wasn't horrible, it should have been much better for the price, especially since there are cheaper alternatives nearby with far better quality. The presentation wasn't an eye-catcher either; they should work on changing the plating to better suit the portion sizes. I also hope the restaurant itself gets a bit more decor over time. Additionally, they were a little too strict with reservations. They wouldn't let anyone be seated even a few minutes early, despite there being many open tables, which was a bit annoying. Lastly, I think they should reduce the number of items on the menu and focus on the quality of a few dishes rather than the quantity of options. I came here with my family and we left very unsatisfied with the food and prices! The service was ok, staff are friendly, good ambiance but the food was terrible. We ordered The Sheng Jian bao and it looked like it was microwaved and not pan-fried. They were basically cold once served to us. And this is after the waiter confirmed with us that they are "pan-fried." Too much grease/oil on the bottom of the baos. The baos were also extremely small for what they charged which is $20, absolutely ridiculous! Other smaller Chinese restaurants charge way less and their baos are twice the size of the ones at Asia Live, and actually pan-fried! Come on now! The second dish we ordered was the kung pao chicken and they priced this dish at $25, not including any steamed rice, which by the way, they charge an additional $5 for one bowl of rice. So total for this dish is $30! How do you expect customers to eat kung pao chicken without rice?! We have ordered kung pao chicken at various other restaurants and almost all included steamed rice.. the dish itself did not have any wow factor. We went on a late Friday afternoon and the place was surprisingly dead, few tables with customers and that was it. That's concerning for a Friday night restaurant business inside valley fair mall.. the owner needs to make a ton of changes to their menu, otherwise people will not come back, including us! We had an outstanding dinner at Asia Live and can't wait to come back. A special thanks to Harry, who recommended dining in the downstairs sushi room. It was quiet, intimate, and offered the full menu, making for a relaxed evening with exceptional, attentive service. The food was excellent across the board. The Chili Encrusted Calamari was light and crispy, the Sichuan "Working Hands" Pork Dumplings were packed with flavor, and the Saigon "Luc Lac" Shaking Filet Mignon was the star of the meal perfectly cooked and as good as, if not better than, many steakhouses we've visited. The Charred Chinese Broccolini was another standout and paired beautifully with the grilled oyster mushrooms. The Dragon Roll and Crushed Cucumber Skins were good, though we'll probably try something different next time. We finished with the Matcha Lava Cake, which had a delicious molten matcha center. I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant, but unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. The biggest issue for me was the management. The managers came across as rude, unfriendly, and generally unpleasant. There was very little sense of hospitality, and their attitude made it seem like customers were more of an inconvenience than people they actually wanted at the restaurant. For a newly opened restaurant, I expected the management to at least make an effort to be welcoming and professional. Unfortunately, the food wasn't much better. The dishes we tried were underwhelming, especially considering the prices. Nothing really stood out, and the quality and flavor simply did not justify what they were charging. With so many great restaurants in the area, it's difficult to recommend paying these prices for mediocre food. We tried several dishes, including the sheng jian bao, fried rice, and kung pao chicken. The sheng jian bao was probably the biggest disappointment. For something that is supposed to be pan-fried, the bottom lacked the crispy texture I was expecting, and for $20, the portion size was surprisingly small. The fried rice was also bland and oddly soft, while the kung pao chicken was nothing memorable and definitely did not feel worth the price, especially when rice costs extra. I can overlook a disappointing dish here and there, especially at a new restaurant, but mediocre and overpriced food combined with rude management is much harder to excuse. There are far too many great restaurants in the Bay Area to spend this much money somewhere that makes you feel unwelcome. Food, service, ambiance. We had a great time and the manager, waiters, and bar tenders were great.

Food was excellent. The BBQ pork buns had a unique flavor that really stood out--fresh, homemade quality that's hard to find in a world of frozen, mass-produced food. The crispy noodles and green beans were also packed with flavor and were among the highlights of our meal. Didn't love the cucumber shreds - might as well slice them like every other restaurant. We visited on a Friday night around 7 p.m., and there were plenty of open tables. Everyone we interacted with was very friendly. That said, the service felt a bit disorganized. There seemed to be a lot of owners/managers/investors walking around, while some staff appeared unsure of their roles, creating a slightly chaotic atmosphere. A few other details could be improved: there were no condiments readily available (soy sauce seems like a basic expectation), the lighting was unusually bright, and the acoustics made the dining room quite loud. Also, the benches had no cushions and were quite hard. Overall, the food was the star of the experience and would bring me back, but the restaurant could benefit from a more polished and comfortable dining environment. read more

This place was a huge disappointment given all the hype and news articles. We were expecting a place similar to Eataly with shopping and restaurants. The "marketplace" is a tiny area with a few food, toy and decorative items. The food is ok, nothing spectacular compared to all the Bay Area Chinese restaurants. We had crispy chow mein-mostly greasy noodles and not much meat and vegetables. The sea bass was delicious but very small for $45. The steamed dumplings were good but not fantastic- you can do better at most dumpling restaurants in Cupertino. So lots of hype and marketing but nothing spectacular. read more

I was hoping Asia Live would be better than China Live. But still some weird things. Space was nicely done, not as nice as China Live but clean and open and inviting. Service was weird, we were told when we ordered that their two main dm sum dishes were not available, the pan fried dumplings and the xiao long bao. So we were told to order other items. Luckily we didn't as they suddenly showed up. There was no explanation from the waiter. The xiao long bao was decent but not exceptional. The shen Jen bao was better than the last time I had them at China Live but not very juicy. Other dumpling places do it better. The eggplant was decent but not better than any decent place in Chinatown. And the cold chicken noodles was just missing something. I keep trying to love this place buts a final no for me. read more

We ordered the Peking duck and a few other dishes. The food tasted okay, but it was not worth the price. The presentation of the Peking duck, however, was a 0/5. When the chef brought it to our table, we were shocked by how unappealing it looked. This presentation is simply not acceptable for a restaurant at this price point. read more
