My friend never had Haitian dishes. One of our friends recommended this place. So, we decided to try. This place is more for take out orders. There were always 2 to 3 people waiting to pick their orders. I ordered legume and my friend had beef with okura. We sat about 10 to 15 minutes for our food. It came with fresh djon djon rice. This Haitian restaurant feels a little out of place in this Miami Shores / Biscayne Park neighborhood, with their unattractive parking lot, and with a canal by its side that is being an afterthought. The interior decor is a bit kitschy, in the manner of ramshackle Caribbean (aka: plastic tablecloths, 70's/80's Miami Vice pastel teal color with black), and yet still with the familiar feel of what you'd find in nondescript Cuban restaurants around town. Call it a Haitian diner, if you will. Locally owned, locally run, and with locals bringing out good affordable Haitian fried classics. In a way, it's appreciated, but also, I am unsure if it has anything that makes it stand out among the numerous Haitian restaurants nearby in North Miami to the north and Little Haiti to the south. Let me start off by saying this place has really good authentic Haitian food. I usually come here about 4-5 times a week for the Boulet with Banan Peze or the Griot with Diri Kole. My biggest problem is that their Customer service sucks ass!!!! I always order my food over the phone because if you order it in the restaurant they will take forever which is understandable since it is made to order but I shouldn't be waiting 40-50 mins on food but even when I order it over the phone I'll come in 20 mins later and it's still not ready, wtf? Then if you don't speak creole or if you're not a regular who is Haitian the staff will act as if you don't exist to them. Then they try to charge you extra for Pikliz then when they give it to you it's barely any Pikliz in it. Also if you want to try this place please make sure that you bring CASH ONLY. I've past this restaurant many times. I was surprise that it was a Haitian restaurant. The menu is like any other Haitian restaurants in Miami/Broward area. The prices are fair, the only downside is that this place does not accept cards as a form of payment exchange. I notice that with a lot of Haitian owned food businesses. This is a Haitian restaurant and I'm born and raised in Haiti. Food is fantastic!! Neighborhood is a little shady and the inside is not beautiful but it's clean. Employees are really nice. Service is slow because the food is fresh so call ahead if you know what you want. And the girls taking orders know most customers by name so you might get skipped over for a regular. Don't get mad.. Just go with it.. It will be worth it, I promise! The fried turkey is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G Try the fried patate (boniato) on the side. it is so good but eat it fresh before they close the plate and pack it up (if you're taking it to go). The steam from the food will kill the crunchiness and its just not the same. They have great fresh juice too. Limeade, Grenadia (that's what we call it, not sure of the English name), Soursop (SUPER natural cancer fighter) and I think they have papaya too. And OMG the Labouie Banan is _________ no words ________ totally speechless. I bought 2 to take home. Took one to work that night and my co-workers were fighting over it. It is SOOOOOOOOOOOO good! The service is male based. The girls in the front are only interested in serving male clients{supposedly, they tip). Well, if you give all your customers the same service maybe they will be more incline to tip. Anyway, I have ordered at this location a several times. They have a fish head soup that is serve only on Saturday's that was good the first 3 times I purchased it. Two other occasions I ordered the soup and received a bowel of watery salty crap. I don't want to sound harsh but what's up with these Haitian restaurants. They want you to Patronize their business however refuse to provide you the proper customer service. I came into the restaurant and place my order. The lady I placed my order with was very very rude. Her attitude was distasteful. Not wanting to be judge mental I continue on ordering. I sat down and waited patiently. The owner/manager stood at the counter and saw this young lady walked in and proceeded to ask her what she wanted. She provided him with an order and he asked his servants to prepare it for her. Within five minutes, her order was ready. Granted I was sitting here patiently for about 20 minutes. After seeing two more individuals coming in, placing there order and getting their food pronto I was pissed. I express how I felt and immediately the manager wanted to talk. I was over it. I highly suggest that you treat you are paying customers fairly. Provide customer service training to your staff And being more organized. We're not animals are here. Au Bon Gout's décor is not fancy but I deem it quaint and the place is clean. As a Haitian, I will say that the food is good and the menu is quite varied. At 9 pm on a Saturday, our party was able to order Fried Red Snappers, Griot (Fried Pork bites), Roasted Goat & Turkey, Boulettes(Meat Balls) with sides of fried plantains, accras, fried boniatos and various types of rice.
