For the po-boy, I wish there was more actual crab meat instead of 90%batter and fried crab legs (as its $19). When I eat Cajun, I'm the type of person to suck out the shrimp head to get more juice. Thought the menu looked good and it was close by sou gave it a try. Few notes, Cajun fries were good but could've been hotter (they cooled too quickly). Their ranch is really good though and flavors on the shrimp poboy was very tasty. Friendly service and Plenty of space. Food had Good looking presentation and portion was very good for the money. Items placed in a paper brown bag, boil bag at the bottom, cajun fries in the middle, and garlic noodles at the top, with the brown bag tied up. Order was ready on time, brought it home only to find out the items in my boil bag were completely wrong. Called them to tell them my order was wrong. And was told I was need to bring back the boil bag if I wanted a refund or if I was my actual order. I went back and returned the bag and had to wait about 10 minutes for them to bring out my boil bag since they had to remake it. Time spent driving about 15 minutes each direction. Since I had to drive back, spent about 1 hr total driving to get my food, plus the time it took to wait for my corrected order. By the time I got back home to eat, my other items were cold. No discount given for wasted time sadly, only a sorry. 1 star since they didn't check the items before packaging them for the order. It was NOT busy at all inside or outside, the restaurant was pretty much empty when I got there the first time, so they were just very careless when packing the food. Parking is easy, there is plenty, (since it's in a decent size plaza) Reserving a seat is easy ( I did it through Yelp), Food came out fairly quick, even though the place was busy, The seafood boil was delicious! I had the bayou bucket, -Dungeness crab, cooked to perfection. Usually when I order this at seafood boils, it's either overcooked, and the meat is stuck completely to the shell. -Shrimp with head on, was tasty and plump. It had a nice bite to each shrimp. -Crawfish was pretty good in size and fresh. -Garlic noodles, garlicky, soy saucey, and delightful. I enjoyed the noodles they used. I think it was the fettuccine noodles. My 3 year old really like it and he's one that usually only eats nuggets and pizza. -The service was great even when it was busy, the girl that assisted my table was attentive and nice. This place is located next to a Lucky's and in a plaza with Jollibees, Krispy Kreme and umongst other things. Will definitely come back when I am in the area. read more

Delicious, Not Oily, generous with the Garlic, tasty dungeoness crab, headless shrimp, corn, garlic bread and Cajun fries. Will absolutely return (and probably eat in, looks spacious and clean). Love this place ! Living in Oakland I've always retreated to rockin crawfish by lake merit , but the older I got the more I would adventure out and try different places and this is one of them . Been coming to backyard bayou for about 4 years now . Super spacious inside real cozy vibe . They play music and have TVs so it's perfect for families groups or dates . You can pick whatever seafood you want and whatever sauce you like , crab boil style . Comes in a bag . But the real reason I love this place is for their lobster and crab rolls ! Now I like both just a plain ol lobster roll with butter and I like them sometimes in the sauce , well you can have yours either way here just ask and they'll kindly do it for you ! They too also have 1.50$ oysters !!!!! You guys know that's a plus in my book !!!! I love oysters . I tend to come here for lunch or during those hours because it can get busy later evening and they don't take reservations just a heads up ! I absolutely love Backyard Bayou, I've been coming to this place for over 4 years now and I keep coming back for many reasons. For starters, it's located at Union Landing, next to Lucky's, so there is plenty of parking. There's a good amount of tables and there usually isn't a long wait to sit. They also have 6 TV screens so if there's a game on you can rest assure you'll be able to watch it. Every time I go the service is great and the staff is very attentive and erudite their name on the table cover in case you need them for anything. For food I got the headless shrimp, backyard style, mild, and with a corn. They had head on shrimp for $2 cheaper, but I prefer to pay a bit more and have the heads off. The backyard sauce is really flavorful and their corn is so good compared to other Cajun seafood spots. All in all I would highly recommend Backyard Bayou and will continue to support this business. read more

Was there recently with some girlfriends, I tried the Bayou Bucket with king crab, crawfish and shrimp, also ordered the grilled aligator and cajun wings. One of the worst waste of money. The bucket was tasteless, ordered cajun hot and it was NOT, very mild and watered down, asked for more spice and he brought Old Bay Seasoning. Looked at the menu and they are charging $2 for spicy, smh. The chicken wings were dry like they had been over fried twice, grilled gator was ok but expected it fried like everything else they offer. My friends ordered the red beans which were undercooked, greens seasoned with just Old Bay and sugar..eww... we also ordered fried okra, catfish and lobster Mac & Chs they were all okay but the cornbread was dry as hell. The service was good, out waiter was very attentive and the ambiance was packed. Personally I think they are highly over rated and under deliver, there no way they should be charging for $108 for a subpar crab boil and you have to pay extra for heat. Both my Pre & Post Covid experiences have been great & they also provide you everything you need for to-go! Whether your a shrimp, crab, crawfish, or any other seafood fan, definitely would recommend getting the Backyard Style since that really brings out the flavor in everything. The Cajun & Sweet Potato fries are a nice addition as well, & would recommend adding the boiled potatoes & sausage! (You can also add these yourself if you have them at home.) I've definitely utilized the leftover sauce to create awesome fried rices & other chicken dishes which is always a nice bang for your buck! This is going to be a shock considering my family and I have been regulars here ever since Backyard Bayou first opened. Last night, we had the WORST experience at dinner with our server who apparently was also the manager named Ty N. First off, I want to start out by saying that the food was a 5/5, but the customer service from Ty N. was lacking. From the beginning to the end of our dining experience, she wasn't very personable and seemed like she didn't really want to be there. We disregarded this since our past experiences with other servers were always pleasant. We always felt welcomed by their demeanor and the smile on their faces. Ty N. on the other hand, didn't exemplify any personable characteristics, which is surprising since she's also a manager who represents the restaurant as a whole. Just to provide a bit of back story, my family and our guests last night are military members/veterans. We had a party of 12 consisting of little ones, individuals in theirs 20s, 30s, and 60s. We have always received the military discount with no problem as long as proper identification was shown, such as active military ID or a Veterans (VA) card. When one of our family members showed his VA card, Ty N. told us that it was expired because she assumed the series of numbers at the bottom right corner of the VA card was an expiration date. While trying to explain to her that it was a member ID number, she quickly dismissed us and walked away. It was odd because we have eaten here a countless amount of times, showed the same exact VA card to multiple servers, and had no issue. We then asked the host if we could speak to a manager to gain more insight for future experiences. To our convenience, the manager happened to also be our server. She went back and took the VA card, and after about 5 minutes, she returned with the modified bill. We asked how she was able to confirm if the card was valid and she responded with attitude saying, "What can I do? It's a complaint right?". She quickly walked away again without taking accountability. Her response shocked our entire family and our guests. Please educate her that veterans will always be veterans, regardless of whether a card seems to be expired or not. This is more than wanting a discount, but more so respect for those who have served. We know this is not how Backyard Bayou should be represented and would hate to no longer want to come here and refer others to visit because of this experience. read more

Several of my longtime high school buddies met here last night here for our monthly get together. We were given a tip by one of the employees we talked to on the phone to get here before 7pm to get a table inside as they get a late dinner crowd due to the nearby movie theater. Sure enough by 7pm it was packed. One of my buddies is from Louisiana originally, so he has been wanting to try it. Our waiter was excellent and was prompt on bringing us our beers and taking our orders. Another note, order anything that contains alligator first as it takes a lot longer to cook as one guy a while to get his dinner. The blackened alligator on fries was awesome, so you want to get it. We all had the Po'Boys and the sauce drizzled on them was excellent. I just wish I asked for more of it on my catfish. The catfish was perfectly cooked too. Another buddy of mine had the Po'Boy with oysters and he said that one was good too. Another had it with alligator and except for the extra wait time to get it, said it was good too. This was our first time eating here and decided to get one of the shripm buckets. Our server asked how spicy we wanted it. Since our kid doesn't eat very spicy we asked if we can have it split mild/spicy. Unfortunately, they couldn't do that but they said they can give the spicy sauce on the side. Great we thought! When we got our order, we discovered that the shrimp was steamed (?) but not in any sauce. Our only experience with these types of Cajun food is Boiling Crab and there you get the shrimp in sauce which makes it very tasty. It wasn't a big deal since we can just pour the sauce over it - not as good but good enough. Food was decent but we were hoping for something similar to BC. The biggest issue for us was that the sauce that was provided "on the side" cost extra. Our server never mentioned that... the way it was casually offered implied it was just on the side instead of in the bag. How can you not have any sauce in the bag but offer sauce on the side and charge more? We only found this out after we got home and saw the receipt more carefully. We also got rice and it was literally $3 for a scoop (not even as big as the size of those round scoops of ice cream). A bit steep for such a small amount of rice but at least we knew it was extra. Anyway, it would good if the servers can let you know that sauce on the side means "at cost" to the customer. It was very disappointing. We'll be sticking to Boiling Crab which is closer to our home as well. read more

I have to say I'm impressed for several reasons: - We were having dinner on a weekday night, and this place was packed - The food is affordable and good quality - The drinks were A1 Things we ordered + my ratings for them: - 1 pound of shrimp (8/10) - Cajun garlic fries (8/10) - Calamari (9/10) - Oysters (7/10) - Lychee Soju Cooler (9/10) - Mango beer (7/10) I love the strength of flavor in all the dishes here (although the garlic fries could have been a little stronger). I want to say that I REALLY love the calamari - the batter was made to a really good crisp and I want to commend whichever chef had that ready! I'm also a huge fan of the lychee cooler (it's sweet, refreshing, and SO DELICIOUS!). My last two visits here were very disappointing. The flavors that made me a long time customer are gone. My crawfish tasted like water. The sauce had no flavor and was barely enough to fully saturated all of the contents of my boil bag. $26 for lobster Mac and cheese with no flavor and maybe a tablespoon of lobster. We only finished the Po Boy as none of the food was good. Additionally, there was a 18% service charge added to our bill- a party of two. There are no signs or prior notification of the charge and if you're not the type review your receipt before paying, it's easy to miss.
