I usually order their #1 specialty, which contains logan, coconut meat, coconut juice, basil and pandan tapioca. However the drink was so bland. Can't even tasted the coconut juice but more like water mixed in with sugar. Very disappointed. My daughter ordered a peach smoothie but we only tasted banana mixed with some type of fruit. The gal then says there are no refunds. WTF????? I did not drink the drink or even place a straw in it. I told her what I had ordered and she was argumentative instead. I told her that I have been coming here for years and own a business as well. I told her that if there is a mistake, I don't even dispute it and just make another one for my customer. Quality of the drinks have gone down & prices have spiked up ever since they transitioned from O Che back to Bambu. They do take card now, but I've been really disappointed the past couple of times. I used to be a regular here, but their #1 coconut special tasted like the syrup from the toppings, not like coconut juice. The lychee tea was $7, it didn't say it would include basil seeds or rainbow jelly, so I was surprised at the price but then to see that my cup was full of toppings (barely any tea & no ice) -- because of this, it didn't taste like lychee tea at all, just the rainbow jelly syrup. read more

Even though the customer service was better here, I still prefer the Bambu location on Hostetter Road instead. I can't quite put my finger on exactly what it was about the che(Vietnamese desserts) here, but it just wasn't as good as the other location. I ordered the usual suong sa hot luu(#7) and my friend got the Bambu special(#1). The suong sa hot luu did not come with enough pink water chestnut tapioca pearls. It came with way more grass jelly and I wasn't happy about it. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't very well made. My friend noted that the Bambu special was identical in taste to the other location--so that is a good thing. This location has been open for a little over a month now, so everything is clean and new. It was pretty packed with a mixed crowd of older people and younger people. Even though this place is closer to home, I'll probably continue to drive to Hostetter to get my che fix. read more

There was also flies flying around. They also offer ice cream macaroons in various flavors! If they don't have something out on the floor, ask for it at the counter, they have more in the back. Che is the perfect dessert on a hot or cold day. And they have 17 different types of che so how can you lose???? The servers are pretty good about getting your orders out fast. If you are new to che, I recommend #6 because it's one of the more sweeter desserts and doesn't have a whole bunch of beans that can be off putting to some. I haven't had a chance to try their milk teas or smoothies but I think I need to since the milk teas in the SJ area aren't that great.... The weird thing is that they just play viet music videos all day long and it can get loud. AND a lot of times, those music videos typically have scantily clad women in them so you get all these creepy old viet dudes just staring at the tv and they dont even hear their order being called out... This place has been disappointing on my last three visits. One of my visits, I found a long piece of hair in my cup. My last visit, the lady at the counter gave me a hard time with my order. It's pretty tough to find a good che place, even in SJ in my opinion. Being born and raised in Orange County, there are a plethora of really amazing Vietnamese dessert spots and they're super cheap too! Bambu was recommended to us by the SBBF's friends and we had to try it out right after eating some pretty delicious NO MSG pho. I got the Che Trai Cay (fruit and gelatin dessert in coconut milk). I'd have to say, the gelatin they used was perfectly chewy and sweet. The fruits were very fresh, I especially liked the huge lychees and longans thrown into my cup. And it was priced pretty decently at $3.75. Not too shabby. Most of their ches run from $3.25-$4.00. It's not like $1.50-$2 a cup like back home, but for the flavor and texture of everything, it's a winner for me. :) The SBBF got himself a lychee slushee drink with rainbow jelly. And he liked it a lot. I had a sip and thought the flavoring was very good as well. Apparently, there's another Bambu location that makes even better che than this one. If I'm ever back in ESJ...which is not very often (scurrrrred of Asian-populated areas), I'll definitely stop in here again to get my sweet fix, Vietnamese style! read more

Sweet coconut! Oh hey, this is the root of my Bambu Addiction. I don't like sweet drinks, I don't like che, but man this place changed my dirty ways. it's tasty and good and I would say I love it! Anybody who is into Vietnamese dessert lovin' of che like me should go to Bambu! Bambu is a chain, and I believe there are three other locations which include two in Milpitas and one in Cupertino. I usually also request to separate the ice and drinks since I like to scoop in my preferable amount of ice into my drink. I'm also not a fan of anything mushy or anything with beans in my che. Not really a fan of the Che Dau Xanh kinda of che, but more so pandan jelly and tapioca chewy goodness. If you like to give your jaw a workout, then I recommend the following. My personal favorites are the #1,6, and 10. #1: Coconut water with basil seed, coconut shavings, and perfectly chewy pandan jelly. This is a wonderful refreshing drink after a workout as coconut water also has electrolytes to restore nutrients in the body after intense sweating! #6: Chè trái cây: Lychee, Longan, Pandan Jelly, Red Tapioca, Jackfruit, Palm Seed. This is more of a dessert drink and would probably be suitable after Pho or a salty meal. Or just a dessert craving! #10: Grass jelly, pandan jelly, and red tapioca. All of my favorites into one, and this is simple, not easy to hate, and ideal for first timers. *Avocado shakes here are absolutely wonderful as well. Delightfully creamy with the right amount of sweetness that isn't overbearing. Bambu's boba is also on point and perfectly chewy. Darnit. As if I need another excuse to get a (few cups of) che or some sweet fruity milk tea, another Bambu done open near my hizzouse. This location is too close to home; both a blessing and a curse! I must say that this plaza isn't the most happening location for Vietnamese desserts, but this is only in comparison to the Hostetter location, which is one of San Jose's indisputable meccas of Asian food and drivers. Their che and milk tea seem to be on par and follow the same recipes as the o.g. Bambu, but I'll have to do some more research *ahemeatmorecheahem* and get back to you on that. :] read more

I am addicted to their milk tea and che desserts. Their pearls are always so nice and chewy, except for one rare occasion where I experienced otherwise. This location is in the Maxim Supermarket plaza, next door to Goldilocks. The girls here are nice and they always have music videos playing. Sometimes they are playing videos that are clearly not PG-13 which annoy me especially if I see children in the place. That's my only gripe. To be honest, I don't really know how to rate this place. I'm not a big fan of Asian desserts (HUGE American dessert lover though!!) but I decided to try something new since I've seen so many of my other friends drinking them. I tried #1 - the Bambu Special - seemed like the safest since I knew what most of the ingredients were (coconut, pandan jelly, longan, basil seed). My mistake though because I didn't really like the combination of all of them. The only thing I think I really like was the basil seeds. To people who actually like these type of drinks, I think it would be good. The fruit tasted pretty fresh and it wasn't too sweet or syrup-y. This location is starting to slip. The last two times, I've had a bad experience. About two weeks ago, their AC was not working so it was unbearably hot inside the store. My friend ordered Mocha with pearls and noticed the milk was lumpy and not fresh. It was probably from them leaving some of the ingredients on the counter. Since we already drove away, he ended up drinking it anyway and did not feel good later. My drink (iced green tea with grass jelly) was fine that time. When I went back last week, I ordered a che ba mau and it was not very fresh. While I didn't get sick from it, my wife and I both noticed a "chemical" taste. Whereas before it was mainly the inconsistent service that held me back from rating it higher, now the drinks are starting to be inconsistent. This place has definitely gone downhill since the change of management. Ordered 5 drinks and then it started to get busy after me. But why did everyone AFTER me get their orders BEFORE me???? First heard about this Bambu place from my sister when she mentioned they had a drink comparative to the Filipino version of the "Halo-Halo". When I entered the store, I heard some loud pop music playing on their flatscreen TV just to the left of me. It gave the place a sort of rave like feel to the place. Bought 7 cups of desserts and 3 cups of che were spoiled. We called to let management know so they won't sell it to anyone else. They insisted that they have re-examed all their toppings and nothing is bad. My Mom bought those three cups back to their store and the manager changed her words and admitted that only 1 topping is bad but got really upset at Mom. She blamed it on her worker and did offered to replace the cups. We don't want more desserts but their service and they way they handled this was unacceptable. Instead of accepting their mistake, they denied it and tried to blame it on the customers. They tried to act professional by offering the replacements but didn't admit that their foods/desserts were spoiled and challenged customer's complaints. This will be my last time here. read more

I always repeat my orders to make sure my orders are correct if it's a face to face order ... especially if it's someone with a really, really big accent noticeable when they talk to me. I haven't had any wrong order issues from here. It's close by to where I shop locally in the neighborhood, you know, when I'm not in the mood for TapEx or Tii :) There's bambu to choose from. Even my mom likes it from here, and she's one of the 'For that price, I can make it at home for you" type. I haven't tried any of their desserts yet, only their drinks. Orange Chiller - refreshing on hot days without the thought of a caffeine rush (AKA coffee) Hazelnut Mocha - It was a bit bitter, so ask for them to sweeten it up for you. The first I had it, I didn't know what the flavor would be like, so now, when I order this, I ask them to make it sweet :) Thai Milk Tea - I always go with no pearl, I am not a pearl person. Their drinks are on the strong side, so I ask for more ice and wait a little for it to melt before I drink it. Avocado shakes are weird. I didn't use to think of a sweet dessert when I thought of an avocado but, times have changed. In fact, the first time I had an avocado shake, I didn't like it. The mix was too different for me. Then I tried it again and it wasn't so bad. Then I started thinking about them randomly. Then I started to crave them... ((sigh)) Now I have a new mini-addiction. I use to go to the Hostettor location a lot when I lived around the area. After I moved, finding good pearl tea was hard since Tap Ex and Sweet Tea are the only ones around. I use to drive all the way to Verde in Fremont for my pearl tea fix until this Bambu arrived! I know I'm Vietnamese, I should like Che (dessert). But I'm more of a drinks kind of gal... so my favorites here are Jasmine Milk Tea, Almond Milk Tea, Strawberry Fantasy and Passion-in-Love. I love pearls and theirs are delicious! read more
