WOW! This food is amazing. I ordered delivery for the first time, not really expecting much. I ordered the Tom Kha Kai soup with shrimp, a bakery roll (salmon and cream cheese fried), and fried cheesecake. It was the best meal that I've had in a very, very long time. Firstly, the food was HOT. Secondly, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the soup contained HUGE shrimp--not the small ones. Also, there were a lot--I appreciated the generous portions. The bakery roll was amazing. Crispy, cheesy and delicious. There is an ample amount of ginger, some type of sweet dipping sauce, and a bed of shredded red vegetables--maybe beets? Wow, I truly don't understand the bad reviews for this place! I've dined in once and done take out twice recently, and each time it was truly superb. First of all, the decor in the actual restaurant is gorgeous. It's quiet and decorated so prettily, with fresh flowers, pillows on the booths, and intricate woodwork. Although this restaurant sits in a strip mall, it stands out due to all of the greenery and flowers adorning the front of the building. The food is delicious and fresh. My husband and I are newly vegan, so it's a struggle finding a place that has excellent quality veggies and tofu, but Bangkok Thyme does. I've tried three separate dishes - Pad Se Eew, Broccoli Lovers, and the Yasai Itame - all with tofu - and they were excellent!!! My husband doesn't normally like thai food, and he already wants to order again, even though we just had this over the weekend. Each dish was stocked full of veggies, and the tofu was fresh. We also ordered the veggie spring rolls each time, and those were good too. The entrees are even good heated up the next day for leftovers, which is not always the case with Thai food. The one time I dined here for lunch, the service was suburb. If you haven't yet been here, ignore the bad reviews, and give it a shot. Came here from Midtown for dinner. This restaurant is tucked away in a little shopping plaza. Decor on the inside was not what I had expected, but very cozy and casual. Reasonably priced for Thai food, portions were on the larger side. I highly recommend getting the roasted duck red wine basil if you enjoy duck. It was delicious, and $20 is reasonable for this entree. Green Curry was also delicious. Very flavorful food, and most of all, absolutely wonderful service. Enjoyed Bangkok Thyme this evening. The Tom Kha soup was really good. Aromatic coconut milk and just a great blend of flavor. Great start and so I was looking forward to the rest of dinner. So I ordered the Red Curry for my entree. Red curry is my test for Thai restaurants. it's the first thing I always order the first time I'm trying a new Thai place. It's my litmus test, if you will. Well, Bangkok Thyme passed that test as well. No Thai restaurant review is complete without a discussion about the spice levels. While ordering the soup, we were asked about our spice level. The waitress told us that their spice levels to up to 10. She told us that 7 was spicy, but not crazy. So I went with that for the Tom Kha soup. It was just barely spicy for me. Now, granted that I can handle some heat. So anyway, then I thought I'll up the ante and so I went with level 9 for my Red Curry. Well, that seemed even less spicy than the soup. THEN the waitress tells us the truth that the levels... Ahh... now the truth comes out. I had just gotten done explaining to my friend that most Thai places have one spice scale for their everyday clientele and a separate and secret spice scale for Thai people. When I asked for some hot sauce, the waitress got the message. She's like, oh... you're a real Thai boy now. The real spice scale actually goes up to 20. She says she eats her own food at 15. Now it all made sense. I'll have to keep the "real" spice scale in mind for next time. Service wise, things were fine. The waitress was prompt and cheerful. After we were done eating, however, she seemed to disappear and we had to wait a long time before getting our check. I didn't see her around for so long, that we just flagged down another guy and he brought us the check. Oh well... very few experiences are perfect. Great sushi! Awesome happy hour deals. To clarify, Monday is "sushi night" because the happy hour specials go from 5-10 p.m. Tues-Fri, happy hour is only from 5-7 p.m. It also includes sake, beer and wine, which was an added bonus! I give Bangkok Thyme 5 stars for the food and 3 stars for service. In spite of servers wandering around the restaurant all night, nobody really paid us much attention... I arrived after my friend at about 6:45 and we wanted to get our happy hour sushi order in, but no one came to the table for a good 10 minutes after I arrived. We frantically waved him down to get the order in. Service remained spotty for the rest of the night... I like the happy hour idea because you get small portions of the more basic rolls (loved the dynamite and spicy tuna! and the tuna tartar on chips was so good). We also ordered 2 specialty rolls (the spider roll and rainbow supreme -- both were SO delicious!). It took a long time for the specialty rolls to arrive, but we weren't in rush so that wasn't a really big deal. By the time we were done, we couldn't finish all the sushi we ordered. It was very, very tasty and well made sushi. The fish seemed to all be excellent quality. The restaurant was smaller than I imagined (god help you if you're there when it's packed, based on the speed of service last night) but cozy and nice. They offer valet parking -- which meant I had to park at the back of the lot in order to get a free space. I had a Living Social deal for $30 off which was really great because, while that couldn't be applied to the happy hour specials we ordered, it did apply to my wine and our specialty rolls (basically covering that). This was quite a good Thai experience. It's really close to where I work, yet I hadn't made my way down Roswell Road to this little gem until this week. A friend who'd be in the area (travelling consultant) suggested we meet for lunch, and after a little investigation, Bangkok Thyme seemed like a good chance to take. I was right! We arrived around 1 pm, and although parking wasn't easy (there's a lot of good options for lunch in the little strip mall Bangkok Thyme occupies), the restaurant wasn't too busy at all. It's a cute little place - very Thai-looking: golden statues, tropical theme, an aquarium behind the bar, and nice tables and booths spread throughout the little establishment. The owner was too cute; he greeted us with a little bow and a giant smile and led us over to a comfortable booth near the bar and quickly took drink orders. He came back throughout the meal to refill drinks and make sure we were enjoying everything, as well. Great service. The lunch menu is quite extensive and each lunch automatically includes your choice of a cup of chicken coconut soup or salad, and they also have a full sushi menu available to you people looking to get your roll on. (Just as an aside: Why is it that Asian restaurants around here seem to always specialize in two completely unrelated Asian foods?) But I digress. Anyhoo, we both ordered the lunch specials - I ordered the Panang chicken curry with coconut chicken soup to start, and my friend got the red curry with chicken. He's kind of a red curry afficiando (and has yet to find a red curry in Atlanta that can compare to his own homemade version), so whenever it's available, he has to try it out. The soups came out and were quite good - very hot, creamy and surprisingly full of pieces of chicken and mushrooms. Our entrees were equally good - the curry was served in a soup bowl (which was a good idea since it was a more liquid style of curry) and chock full of chicken, squash, bell pepper, baby corn, etc. This was my first time trying Panang-style curry and while quite spicy (almost too hot), it was great. It was almost like eating a very spicy stew. Yum! My friend was pretty impressed with his red curry as well (though he did say his version is a little thicker, which he prefers); we both finished off our dishes with no trouble. But I didn't go into a food coma afterward, which is always appreciated when trying to continue working after lunch - not too heavy like some places. Service here was great and I could tell by looking around that this place was full of regulars. We started off with some spring rolls that were quite yummy. I mean, they were the standard spring rolls, but they were extra crispy and hot. For my entree I got the green curry with tofu and extra veggies and ordered it hot. I told the girl that I wanted it to burn. My dish came out packed full of veggies and the flavor of the curry along with the mountain of veggies and tofu was perfect. But it just wasn't hot. Like, I think I'd call it mild. We asked for some spice and we were brought out two options that I couldn't get on board with. One was super fishy and the other completely changed the taste of the dish. Our server explained that it all depends on who's in the kitchen and how heavy they are on the spice. I came here on a whim in search of a spot to collect some skymiles at. It had glowing Yelp reviews and rarely does the Atlanta team steer me off course, so I came an hour before closing. The servers were very apologetic about my sushi order when I had to pick something else due to the sushi chefs starting to put everything away. Finally, one server told me to order a specialty roll they offered a year ago. Spicy hamachi and asparagus on the inside with house smoked salmon on top. It was fresh and delicious, so much so that later in the week when I went to another sushi spot, I couldn't order sushi. I didn't want to be let down when it wasn't this amazing roll from here. I also had the spicy tuna appetizer on crispy wantons. Also fresh and a solid start to the meal. You can't forget a thai tea either, and this one came through with a rich tea flavor that balanced perfectly with the milk. Because I dont frequent Thai restaurants enough, I always get the same thing - Spicy Thai Basil with Beef. It does provide me a nice benchmark from restaurant to restaurant -- and Bangkok Thyme does not disappoint. I got it Thai Hot -- it was a nice spice...but I would like just a little more spicy than that. See what we can do on the next visit. The beef was good quality, tender and plenty of it. Nice sauce. When I first moved back to Atlanta in 2008, I found this place and it was amazing. I ended up eating there several times a week and always found the staff to be warm and friendly and the food fresh and beautifully prepared. I've tried to stick with them through the years, but over time things have changed and definitely NOT for the better. I went back last week after a long hiatus. The first time I arrived after working late at 9pm - they said they closed at 9:30pm, which would usually be plenty of time for me to quickly order and eat, but they refused to serve me saying the kitchen already closed. Might want to update your closing time? I went back a few days later and ordered what used to be my absolute favorite, the Ginger Beef with a Basil Roll and Tom Kha soup. The soup was still similar to what I remember, the Basil Roll was super dry and mostly flavorless. The Ginger Beef is now a sad mockery of what used to be amazing. It used to have fine julienne-cut celery, bell pepper, carrots, onions, etc with the beef also finely cut and all cooked together with the fresh ginger. It was incredible. But what I got this time was chunky-cut veggies, which just felt really thrown together and the beef was in large pieces and tasted really strange, like it had been cooked with propane or some other chemical. It wasn't too fun to eat it and my stomach didn't feel so great later in the evening. I also no longer see the old manager who was a really sweet, slightly older guy who would always greet me and was super friendly and helpful. It makes me think they could be under new management, but either way - it's definitely not the place I used to love and frequent. :( read more

The lights were still on, and it was incredibly awkward to see the staff staring at me but doing absolutely nothing about the situation. This is certainly not the way to be treating customers... Rangoons had been fried so long they had no filling. Noodles had so much MSG or salt or whatever they were indelible. Further I've never seen pad woo sen come out quite the color it did? Ate here a couple months ago and was not impressed. They have sushi on the menu and regretfully, I ordered some. The roll I chose was a fried roll, I don't remember which one though. The roll was cut prior to being fried making it resemble a donut hole of sorts when it came to the table. It was very hot, and it never seemed to cool off. There was no where for the heat to go! I also ordered red curry which also did not please me. I have eaten a lot of curry in a lot of restaurants. The curry was bland, not much sauce, and lacking in vegetables as well. The miso soup was okay, nothing stood out about it. Sushi was easily among the best I've had.
