Went for brunch on a Sunday ; I had reservations for 2 , we were seated fairly quickly took about 5 minutes . It took a little while to get a waitress to our table , but the restaurant was pretty busy, seeing as it's 25$ for bottomless mimosas and food. The mimosas were delicious , we went through about 2 carafs in 2 hours (between 2 people) while sitting there . I ordered the croissant sandwich , it was fine , I added ketchup (which I never do) to increase flavor as well as had to add salt. By the time we ordered and got our food the restaurant much had been out of potato's as we were served potato chips. I was fairly disappointed but the waitress did ask if I wanted fruit in addition . The service was rather slow , in terms of how long it took to get the food out . For 25$ you can't beat the deal, but definitely think they're are other brunch spots in the city that are worthwhile . read more

Delicious Italian food that's well-priced. The dining room is cozy but not overly crowded. The beef meatballs are tender, fluffy, and a must-have! Almost all of the pastas are house-made, and cooked al dente. On Sunday, we had the clam fettucine special - the noodles were nice and thin, and Manila clams complemented the chopped razor clams. I had the cioppino which had a generous portion of sea bass on top of tomatoes, potatoes, beautifully seared scallops, and mussels. This was our second visit to Bar Roma. Our first visit had been spectacular. This time, though we were dining towards the later end of dinner service and most tables were emptying out, we had a couple snafus - a drink mix-up and slower service than I would have liked. However, our server was sincerely apologetic and sent us home with some complementary dessert. This definitely made up for it! The bread pudding is chocolatey and awesome! If you enjoy it at the restaurant, it'll be served piping hot with a scoop of ice cream. But it's also sold in boxes at the cooler at the front of the restaurant. I had a great first experience here. Bar Roma offers amazing portion sizes for the prices. They start you off with fresh bread (which is really tasty on its own) and olive oil with fresh grated cheese. I would have loved to have had some additional olive oil available at the table to add to the plate but also didn't ask, maybe they have some they could bring upon request. The meatballs were large and really moist. They offer a variety of flavors but I started with the basics (the Manzo) which didn't disappoint. The gnocchi had a different spin to it - semolina cakes with goat cheese. These were really tasty but could have used a bit more sauce since the cakes were a little thicker. For dessert we tried the specialty , olive oil cake. This was again really tasty and and also a nice sized portion. Overall, great experience and I will certainly come back. The ambiance was nice. The place is cute and welcoming with a friendly and attentive staff. Giving it 4 stars to start since I have only tried a few things and would like to check out a few more. read more

We've been wanting to try this place for a while. The cauliflower soup was good not great. The Manzo meatballs were fantastic and the best part of the evening besides the drinks. The spaghetti with pecorino and black pepper was terrible; too spicy and had to be sent back twice. The cioppino was mediocre. Please do not serve the sea bass with the skin still on it. The place has set the bar high for Italian cuisine in terms of cocktails and meatballs. Cocktails - great options and flavors. Honestly, there are too many to choose from and when I came here I was across the board alone away. I had to rest on suggestions of the waitress especially when I told her that I liked my drinks boozy. She got me in the right directions. Thank you. For starters, had a mixture of the various meatballs that they offer. Every meatball is made with a different meat base. It could be chicken, beef, or lamb - or a combination of such. All have unique blends of herbs in the meatballs - and really I love it all. I couldn't figure out which meatball I preferred. Honestly, to be transparent, I don't remember my entree. Is that because I was full? Because I was loaded at that point from the boozy cocktails my waitress was pouring down my throat (ha ha) or just cuz it all blended together into a mix of yum. I vote for the last one. :) Go and check out this place. I enjoyed and will be back again. This place has good Italian food. We tried the bruschetta, manzo meatballs, and spinach raviolis. The manzo meatballs are worth coming by themselves. Bread with olive oil and cheese is served. Bar Roma... that's what caught my attentions the most since I go by Roma (Short from Romana). Plus it's Italian cuisine, not far from my house, has an outdoor seating and I've heard great things about this place from quite few people. So, when my man offered to take me out to dinner last night I suggested this spot. Since we both nocturnal we go to dinners late, in this case it was 9pm. Had no problem getting a table by the window with was open (feels like you sit outside). Decor is pretty original, place has an intimate and romantic feel to it. Hostess was very polite and friendly. Busboys came to our table the moment we sat down with water, bread, mix of olive oil and parm (love fast service!). Server came few minutes later which allowed us to look over the menu. He explained us specials of the night and took drink order. My choice was an old fashioned and his vodka soda (way to relax after crazy day at work). We started with Fritto Misto (fried mix of sea food) it's like fried calamari upgraded. My dinner choice was Parmigiana do Melanzane, one word delizioso (delicious). He ate Scampi di Gamberetti minus pasta (someone's trying to avoid carbs...) but more spinach and he loved it. Unfortunately no room for desert but we'll definitely be back! read more

Bar Roma was so good. I had the Cacio De Pepe. We asked to add blackened shrimp onto it and it was mouth watering! I shared the dish with a friend and there was plenty! Came here for Valentine's Day. I love pasta and meatballs and was in heaven. Everything sounded delicious on the menu, and everything we ordered was also delicious. We dined here last night after a ride down Clark street. Our bartender guided us to the best rose. Which was great. We ordered the special salad which was great . We thought we ordered our dinner shortly afterwards. But, 40 minutes afterward our bartender was looking for our order - After us asking us several times where our entree was . Personally I think they forgot about us. We eventually gave us our order. I've spent over 20 Years I this business . I'm disappointed that it took so long to recognize our order took so long. We really love this neighborhood restaurant and want to support their efforts to stay open during these challenging times. The food is always good & flavorful. However, on a recent visit outside we felt that the appetizers and entrees were just lukewarm which was a surprise so we hope that it was just a fluke. Service was friendly and very attentive. We also want to make a few recommendations. We understand their policy of trying to maintain reservations to 1 3/4 hours which should be sufficient to have a leisurely meal and allow them to turn the tables over. However, they should do a better job of managing this especially when it is stated online and mentioned when you check in. The party before us stayed well beyond their designated time which necessitated the host to constantly update us about our table. Perhaps a written reminder next to the menu would help customers but also informing diners that there are other customers waiting for the table once they have exceeded their reservation time would help too. The other recommendation is to ensure the wait staff uses a spray sanitizer on the table instead of just a damp cloth which may have been used over and over. This would certainly make diners more comfortable. read more

Some friends of mine and I went for Sunday brunch. I was very excited to see that they had a $24 special that included bottomless mimosas and a brunch entree. As with any restaurant, there were some pros and cons... Pros: 1. Excellent atmosphere, very comfortable and cozy. Great for a date night as well as for a small group of people. I've been told their patio is also quite nice. 2. Great location, in the southern portion of Andersonville - decent street parking for those who drive and accessible via the Red Line (Argyle) or #36 Broadway/#22 Clark buses. 3. Friendly service, overall very friendly and attentive staff. We were warmly greeted and well looked after. 4. Food was decent, I will not complain (too much) about what I ate. Cons: My biggest pet-peeve and con of Sunday's brunch: Please don't rush us. We fully are aware and understand that your brunch ends at 2:00 and will kindly respect that by not ordering more mimosas. Should we decide to order anything else, we will pay the normal house price. That being said, when you see a table of people enjoying each other's company, please do not bring us the bill right away. Wait until we either look as if we are finishing up or until we ask for it. We greatly appreciate the reminder around 1:50 regarding brunch ending and thank you for that. However, it was evident my brunch companions and I were enjoying each other's company and conversation immensely. It was not appreciated when our waitress came to the table and asked us to please settle our bill when we were clearly not ready to leave. Your restaurant was empty and there was plenty of room for the early dinner/afternoon drink folks. To sum up, please don't rush your patrons. Brunch is not meant to be rushed and we don't appreciate it. My Suggestions: 1. Consider extending your brunch hours until 3:00 pm much like most of the other brunch spots in the city. 2. Your menu is great, as you continue to evaluate your brunch success, consider expanding it or rotating menus. 3. Keep up the seasonal mimosas, excellent touch! I was accidentally brought a grapefruit mimosa and actually really enjoyed it. 4. Above all, do not rush your patrons. Especially those who are being respectful of your establishment and fellow diners. Consider limiting folks who appear to be overserved much as the table behind us. Will I come back? Absolutely. I'm going to run through some of my favorite parts of my Friday night at this beautiful establishment: Meatballs (polpette): I mean. What. They offer 5 different varieties and we tried them all. The abbacchio is a lamb-based creation served like a slider with goat cheese and a pickle; and it was ridiculous. Get it. Pasta: Goodness. I had the papardelle which comes with an oxtail ragu - incredibly savory and I darn near finished the entire massive plate. A friend try the fettucine w/ squid ink and he mentioned he'd be dreaming about it for weeks to come. Dessert: We had tiramisu, creme brulee, and the bread pudding. I can't decide which one was the best so you should do the same and just order them all. Cocktails: Like everything else you get here, extremely well done. I had a few. While visiting friends in Chicago we wanted some Italian food. When we saw that Bar Roma had just opened we decided to give it a try. We did not make reservations but the hostess had told us that tables in the bar area were available so we sat there. I would tell you if you can make an RSVP do it, If you don't like sitting at high tables. I am a fan of Bar Roma's bread. Once you are seated they will bring out bread and olive oils with cheese and rustic garlic to dip your bread in. The bread was warm and I had way too much. But let me get to the food I know that's why are you reading this! Soup of the Day- Our server told us that the soup of the day was Tomato Basil. It was made fresh that day (We went on a Sunday). It was perfect. The soup was not to tart yet had a great blend of sweetness too. It was so good my shirt had some too. I will go back just for the soup. So if you are going, ask what the soup of the day is. If they say Tomato Basil... GET IT! Meatballs- When the server told us that the meatballs are made fresh. He was not kidding. I added the spicy pork meatballs to my spaghetti and it did not disappoint. The noodles are large and make it very easy for you to wrap around your fork and you can tell that they are fresh and made that day. I am sure you are wondering if I got full; well yes! After work my wife and I decided to head out for dinner. We had a list of restaurants in the area that we wanted to visit and this was one of them. When we arrived we were worried that we wouldn't get seated because of what we saw on Open Table, but to our surprise we were able to get seated right away. After we got seated we noticed the walls and how beautful the ambiance was. We were also greeted by our lovely waitress, that took care of us for the rest of the night. She was knowledgeable, attentive, and very pleasant. Also, their food was delicious and their chocolate bread pudding made everything alright lol. This place is fantastic - highly recommend! We went on a Wednesday night and the atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and perfect for a winter night. They immediately bought out warm bread and olive oil with fresh grated cheese for dipping - even though it's an Italian restaurant standard, this was particularly delicious. The menu has a lot of options - several kinds of meatballs, different types of homemade pasta (all but one option are made in-house), entrees, and many appetizers. It was tough to choose, but we went with the beef meatballs. They were phenomenal! The cacio e pepe was a pretty hearty portion, and was rich and creamy. Would definitely order again. The sausage tortellini could have been warmer, but it was delicious and the flavors were unlike anything I've ever tasted at another Italian spot. The service was also incredible. Our server was extremely friendly, checked in repeatedly, and gave us some great information about the menu. The other staff was also really attentive - water was always full, they replaced our silverware between appetizers and entrees, etc. Would highly recommend this great Andersonville spot. Um wow. This place is AMAZING We had the cacio e pepe (my favorite pasta dish), ravioli, and risotto. The cacio e pepe was fantastic. I get it pretty much any time I see it on a menu so I've tried it all over the place and this was one of the best I've had. The risotto was also delicious and a must try. Ravioli was good but I was too busy drooling over the cacio. I also get tiramisu every place I go and this one was pretty good. The ambiance was great and I love the set up and decorations. I came here just a few weeks ago with a friend of mine and it was good- definitely not the best Italian food I've had in the city, but it wasn't bad either. Our waiter was alright- he wasn't very personable, but he was spot on with his wine recommendations, and anyone can have an off night, so I brushed it off as nothing more than that. I'm a self-proclaimed expert when it comes to noodles, and whenever I go to an Italian restaurant, I have to try the cacio e pepe. That's such a simple staple that if an Italian restaurant can't do it properly, I question whether I want to come back. My noodles were cooked perfectly, but sat in a bed of pasta water and were a little underseasoned. I asked my waiter for a little more cheese and that seemed to make the dish better (as cheese tends to do for almost everything). Overall, considering the location and ambiance, this place should be better. I sure hope it is next time I come. read more

Five words: HALF PRICED WINE BOTTLES MONDAY! Our waitress was super attentive and really knew her wine. The food was classic Italian with a twist. I had cacio e pepe, which was simple but really hit the spot. I also had a side of vegetarian meatballs, which tasted so realistic I had to ask the waitress if she gave me the right one.
