    Chicago's Best Balls

We'd Stopped by this place for appetizers once and were impressed enough to head back for a full experience. We were super surprised. It was fantastic Italian food that felt intentional and thoughtful throughout. It has a lot to Live up to in Chicago but this little place is one to take real Italian fans. Ambience could've been a little more inspired, but definitely wasn't bad. Our server also was fantastic and helpful throughout everything. Definitely recommend the Casio e Pepe for those who like that dish, it was authentic and delicious. The balls were super solid meatballs. I highly recommend the fritto misto. The breading mad every bite so good and the giardiniera mayo was a great companion. Thanks Bar Roma!

Bar Roma Click to open side panel for more information is a popular Andersonville destination known for its specialized focus on Roman-inspired cuisine, particularly its house-made pastas and signature meatballs. Reviewers often highlight the restaurant's ability to balance a polished, upscale feel with a welcoming neighborhood vibe, making it equally suitable for a romantic date or a lively group dinner.

We had a pleasant dining experience overall. Our party of two arrived for our evening reservation and were seated promptly upon arrival, which is always appreciated. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a nice balance of casual and upscale vibes. To start, we shared the calamari and the watermelon goat cheese salad. The calamari was perfectly crispy and well-seasoned, with a dipping sauce that complemented it nicely. The watermelon salad was refreshing and light, with the goat cheese adding a creamy tang that paired beautifully with the sweetness of the fruit. Definitely a highlight of the meal. As always, the complimentary bread and olive oil were a welcome touch -- the bread was fresh, and the olive oil was high-quality and flavorful. For my main course, I went with the eggplant Parmesan. While the flavors were generally good -- the marinara sauce was rich and well-seasoned, and the cheese was nicely melted -- I was disappointed that the eggplant itself was undercooked. It was noticeably firm and hard in the center, which took away from the overall enjoyment of the dish. I'm a big fan of eggplant when it's done well, but unfortunately, this one missed the mark for me. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the night, and I appreciated the staff checking in on us without being overbearing. I'd definitely come back to try some of the other entrees, but I'll probably skip the eggplant next time.

Heard great things about this place and decided to give it a try. Beautiful rustic interior with big windows and lots of light, very friendly staff. We missed the happy hour and didn't get to try that, but loved the regular menu! I ordered the sangiovese with cacio e pepe, and my friend got spaghetti and polpette. Everything was very good. I definitely want to come back and try the happy hour.

While exploring Andersonville with friends, we stumbled upon Bar Roma, a cozy Italian corner spot that immediately drew us in with its inviting ambiance. The warm decor and friendly buzz made it feel like the perfect place to unwind for happy hour. The generous wine pours were a welcome surprise. I chose the Bucatini all'Amatriciana off the happy hour menu. Such a treat with a spicy Berkshire pork cheek ragù, topped with pecorino. The pasta was perfectly cooked, and the rich, flavorful sauce had just the right amount of heat and I loved the dense crouton it was served with. The place was busy but the service was attentive and everything was served quickly. Whether you're in the mood for a comfy-luxe happy hour or a hearty Italian meal, Bar Roma is a charming spot I highly recommend!

I love a good Italian spot! This was our first time at Bar Roma. Four of us went and my friend made a reservation in advance which I think is a good move, even for a weeknight. I was between two wines and took our server's suggestion for the Super Tuscan. It was fantastic! It came in a carafe with a small (seemingly for water) glass. Call me bougie but I like to use the big wine glasses. Makes me feel fancy. Upon requesting it she brought me one. Much better! I ordered the tortellini with butternut squash and Italian sausage. I wasn't expecting it to be sliced (vs crumbled) but really enjoyed it! The flavors were really great together. We also split the mixed greens salad (starts with an M). I thought that was delicious! Our table enjoyed a few cocktails including the old fashioned and a spicy drink that was extra spicy that day. The table bread was really soft and fresh. My friend had the chocolate bread pudding for dessert and said she liked it. Overall a pretty good experience.

What a special spot! I was craving Italian, which I normally make at home, but it was such a pretty evening we decided to try a new-to-us spot near by. Bar Roma is located on a sunny corner in Andersonville, and we were easily able to find paid parking nearby. We arrived before the dinner rush and were able to grab a table on the cute patio! I sipped on a lemon San Pellegrino, but my husband took advantage of the happy hour menu and ordered the old fashioned, which look so pretty and he confirmed it was delicious. Happy hour also had some appetizers available, so we ordered the bruschetta per our wonderful servers recommendation. This is totally different from the classic bruschetta, the wood grilled bread is topped with saffron whipped ricotta, asparagus, and pea tendrils. It was so fresh, flavorful, and tasty! I decided to order the black peppercorn cavatelli pasta for my main dish. All the pasta is homemade, and paired with the ricotta cheese, chicken sausage, prosciutto, peas, and parmesan cheese cream. So much flavor! I loved every bite. My husband got the spaghetti and meatballs and dare I say it, this might have been even better than mine?! The meatballs were out of this world. On top of the excellent food, the service was impeccable! Our server checked on us frequently, and the bussers were constantly refreshing our water and clearing dishes. I can't wait to come back!

Went for a wonderful dinner with my husband back in June and we had a great time! I love that Bar Roma has seasonal menus where you can always try something different. The ambiance is nice, but relaxed. It's a great date night location in Andersonville and it is reasonably priced.

My friend and I live near Bar Roma, so we were excited to finally check it out. While we had a decent experience, we weren't particularly impressed with the service or our drinks. Portions are huge and the squid ink pasta was loaded with seafood, but the pasta wasn't the best I've had in Chicago. Would recommend if you live in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way to dine here.

Normally I hate those kinds of large group dinners, but this was the perfect spot for it. The service was absolutely wonderful. I don't know how our server stayed so cool and calm with a group that size. We got a variety of things. EVERYTHING was amazing. If you have seen any of my other reviews, I always get a meatball when I'm at a place that has them. They almost never live up to my expectation. But this place has the new gold standard for a meatball. It was everything you want. It is fork tender, full of flavor, no chewy ground up bits. The pizzas were authentic and thin. With fabulous house made red sauce that wasn't too thick and overwhelming. The flavor was A+ The cocktails were so good! All made from scratch with love. The ambiance was cozy and comfortable. We had visited Florence last year, and one of the numerous wonderful moments of our trip to Italy was seeing "Il Porcellino" - the lucky bronze boar fountain that draws tourists from around the world. A copy of the boar stands proudly near the entrance of the restaurant, and though it is not as old as the original 1634 sculpture, it was a charming reminder of our amazing Italian holiday. Did I mention that the weekday Happy Hour (4-6PM) specials are quite good? The specials are served only at the bar area, so you might have to wait a few minutes for available seating. We started with some drinks, including two kinds of Negroni. The wild mushroom arancini (5 little balls for $6) were the smallest I've tried, but they were creamy and melt-in-your mouth delicious. The whipped ricotta and jam beautifully served on a strip of toasty focaccia was a unique taste sensation. Prime beef meatballs and short rib sliders on toasted ciabatta bread also hit the spot. Even though we were merely dining at the bar, we enjoyed the overall vibe of the restaurant. There are lots of photos on the walls, interesting lighting from the ceiling, nice serving dishes, and servers who seem to know who their regular diners are. We look forward to returning to Il Porcellino, to bask in that indescribable feeling of being in Italy again.

It's one of those places that you find yourself talking about long after the meal is over. The garlic bread alone is worth the visit. They pour what feels like a gallon of garlic butter over it, and somehow it's still never enough. It's rich, indulgent, and absolutely delicious. We order it every single time and would probably be disappointed if we didn't. The real star of the show, though, is the lasagna. Between the two of us, we've had lasagna at countless restaurants, and nothing has come close to this one. It's hands down the best lasagna we've ever had. Perfect layers, incredible flavor, and the kind of comfort food that makes you want to savor every bite. Their Grey Goose espresso martini is also unmatched. We've tried espresso martinis all over Chicago, and this one is still our favorite. It's smooth, perfectly balanced, and the ideal way to start or end the meal. The atmosphere is another reason we love coming here. The restaurant is gorgeous inside, with a dark, moody vibe that makes it feel special without being stuffy. The weather was perfect for outdoor dining so I went ahead and booked a table for Friday night. I felt like I won the dinner lottery. Service was wonderful and I didn't mind sitting outside at all next to the road with cars. I actually never stepped foot in the restaurant so cannot comment on what it's like inside. But do not give up that patio dining reservation if it's available. All of our dishes were delicious. I was really impressed by the meatball appetizers, chicken vesuvio (the potatoes are a must get as a side if you skip this dish), and branzino. The meats and sauces were wonderfully balanced and tender. Nothing tasted overly salted. Ironically, the pasta felt less of a star compared to the other dishes.
