If you're in San Francisco, and you're looking for late night eats, Bay Pocha is a place. You should definitely check out! Parking isn't as complicated, but can still be a little bit of a challenge, depending on the time of day or evening. It was offputting to walk in around 10 PM, and while the restaurant had a few patrons, the woman that greeted us at the door asked if we had reservations. Were they expecting some mad rush?! When we told her no, she looked around the restaurant as if it were completely packed and they weren't gonna be able to seat it s. She did seat us, but definitely wasn't super friendly. We didn't walk in right before they closed, so I'm not certain what that was all about The food is absolutely delicious. We ordered way too much, but that's what happens when hunger sits in. I would do it all over again. Beef potstickers - delicious! Packed full of tasty filling, perfectly crisp edges, and the dipping sauce was light and flavorful. This definitely was the way to start off the meal! Fried chicken - they offer the chicken fried, fried with the sauce on the side, or covered in the sauce. We ordered the chicken with the sauce on the side, since we anticipated possibly taking the chicken home and did not want it to be soggy. This was the best call. The chicken wings are large and definitely bigger than what we expected. Perfectly fried, very lightly seasoned, which makes sense for being able to eat them either dipped into sauce, or having them brought covered in the sauce. The meat was moist and juicy, and they were really delicious. I had asked how spicy the sauce would be, and never really got a firm answer, which is definitely another reason to order it on the side. The sauce was tasty, but definitely had a back bite to it. Cheese pork Katsu- this is the dish that you need to get regardless of everything else that you're ordering. The Katsu is lightly fried, it's not greasy, and it's nicely seasoned. It's stuffed with cheese and the cheese pull on it, is exactly what you want, and it's exactly what you need. We may or may not have quickly divvy up the pieces because neither of us was willing to give up any of it. Yes, it was that delicious. There's something magical about melted cheesy goodness inside of a piece of Katsu. It served with dipping sauce, but frankly it doesn't need it. I love being able to enjoy food the way it's prepared and I don't like having to add sauces, etc. just to enjoy it. The Katsu was served with a side salad and rice. The side salad was OK but instead of using real dressing, it tasted like spicy mayo drizzled over the lettuce. So that definitely was a miss for me. The rice was light and fluffy, and while it had furikaki sprinkled on top of it, the rice tasted like it had been mixed inside of it. It wasn't visibly noticeable, so it made me wonder what they actually put into the rice. It was OK just unexpected and didn't really work with all the different flavors on the plate. The overall food experience is definitely five stars, but the Service and that part of the experience brought it down to four stars. This is definitely worth going for the food!
Went to Bay Pocha w/ some friends and this place is always open late. They have a wide variety of food like army stew, tteokbokki and grilled meats. I rlly like the rose tteokbokki and pork belly. The army stew is fun if you've never had it before but it's missing the beans! It can be loud in there but it's a place for eating and drinking.
I would recommend this place. I came in for lunch as well as dinner. Dinner is definitely more lively. The bosam was the special for the night. We also ordered a tofu soup. I really enjoyed the bosom and it came in a huge portion. It was enough for leftovers. The soup was loaded with veggies and seafood. My partner really enjoyed it. The bossam total was $60 so we were a bit surprised when the bill came. Besides that, I would be back. Lots of variety to choose from and quick service.
We came in on a Sunday night and it was crowded. We ordered the pork neck stew and the grilled squid with butter. The side dishes were really tasty. The stews are big enough for 4 people. Meat was tender and tasty. Service was good even though they were busy, staff were attentive with water and refilling g side dishes. I've gotten the army stew before and that was also really good.
The atmosphere was great! The wait staff were observant and helpful. The food was delicious and the serving size was enough for 2. My brother said this is his favorite spot and he even brought his girlfriend here as their first date many moons ago.
Randomly decided to try bay pocha looking for Korean food in the area and were very pleased with the food here it was so tasty and the service was great they're so kind and the bathroom was super clean we ordered the bulgogi, ramen, and rice cakes
Stopped by here with a buddy to grab a snack after checking out round 1. We've been here a few times, but it was super packed! Luckily, with 2 people, we were able to be seated quickly. The servers are quick, and you can easily tap the button to get their attention, but since we were so close, we could easily just tell them what we wanted and they'd get it quickly. Started with some fresh Soju bottles and were looking at the food when my buddy saw the carbonara Tteok-bokki and thought it was an interesting combo. The place was lively; almost every table was booked, and people were coming and going. Our sides came out, and I forgot to take a photo, but the fish cakes were bomb! Soju always hit the spot, and when we tried the carbonara, we found it an interesting combo, definitely a fusion mix. I'll be back of course for soju as always and to get our regular wings and stew!
My 5th time coming for their bossam and army stew. Service and food is 10/10 would recommend!! Kid friendly and music wasn't too loud.
Even though it had been a few years since my last visit, I was pretty bummed when I heard that Wang Dae Bak had closed. With them, The Spot Lounge, and Odumak gone, it pretty much left good ol' Toyose as the only late night Korean pub spot on this side of SF. Thankfully, though, that reality was short lived, as it didn't take long for Bay Pocha to open up and take their place! While I was pretty fond of Wang Dae Bak, I've actually enjoyed my visits to Bay Pocha more so. By comparison, I like how the decor is brighter and the general vibe feels a lot more lively and fun. As for the menu, it's narrower than their predecessor's, but still offers a lot of the same staples, like seafood pancakes, chicken wings, tteokbokki, broiled meat plates, soups, stews. and rice plates. Gone are some of their apps and soups and their intestine dishes, but they now have offerings like galbijjim and bossam, which I think is a net positive. -- FRIED CHICKEN WINGS - Half Original and Half Spicy This was great! Of the two, though, I actually thought the original was better - super crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. However, that isn't to say the spicy one was bad; I just didn't care for how saucy they were. -- GALBIJJIM (Braised Short Rib) - Beef Short Ribs Braised in House Special Sweet Soy Garlic Sauce with Carrots, Potatoes, and Scallion...$76.95 Tried this twice (once with cheese, once without) and they were easily my favorite things were. The chunks of short ribs were super tender, the rice noodles had a terrific chew to them, and I loved the potatoes and carrots. Not as good as Daeho's, but still an awesome dish. -- BOSSAM - Slow Boiled Pork Belly with House Made Special Sauce...$58.95 On the one hand, this was pretty impressive - the portion was pretty generous and it was one of the better bossam dishes I've had. On the other, bossam isn't really my kind of dish (prefer my pork belly cooked differently) and some of the pieces were really fatty. -- JAPCHAE with Tofu Pretty disappointing, to be honest. Setting aside the fact that we got this with tofu (it tasted fine; I just would've gone with beef), this was really pale and was on the bland side. While it had a nice hit of sesame oil, it needed a bit more soy sauce for some umami. -- CORN CHEESE Not the best I've had, but far from the worst. The corn was sweet and they certainly didn't skimp on the cheese. However, whether it be the butter or the fat/oil from the cheese, it felt like the corn and cheese would separate form each other as we ate it. -- ARMY STEW (Budae Jjigae) - Spicy Pork, Kimchi, Spam, Sausage, Vegetables, and Ramen Noodles in a Hot, Spicy Broth...$58.95 It's been a long time since I've had this and, thankfully, this one didn't disappoint! Besides the portion being HUGE (enough for our whole group to share), I love how this came with sausage, spam, AND spicy pork. Plus, the rice cakes in this were so soft and chewy. Delicious! -- BEEF STONE BIBIMBAP They initially gave us a regular beef bibimbap (in a cold bowl) and then brought it back in a stone pot. I assume that had a lot to do with it, but either way, this was really underwhelming. The top portion wasn't hot and the rice at the bottom never developed that bottom crust. -- SEAFOOD PANCAKE with Clams, Mussels, Calamari, Shrimp, and Green Onions Pretty solid overall. Although I wish the top/bottom of the pancake had been crispier, the pancake wasn't too thick nor too thin and it had a good amount of seafood and green onions in it. -- BROILED PORK BELLY with Salt and Pepper Served with Onion and Garlic Now this is how I like my pork belly! The slices I had were cooked very well with a perfectly golden brown color on each side. Plus, they just tasted really good! -- GALBI Pretty standard, but in a good way. Not only did they have a really nice char, but the galbi was meaty, juicy, and seasoned really well. Yum! Beyond the food, I love that it's super convenient - the area is chill, it's easy to find nearby parking, and there usually isn't a long way for a table. As for service, it's mostly good, though not perfect. Beyond bringing us the wrong bibimbap, they also brought out my friend's soon doobu without the ramen noodles she had requested and then told her she would have to wait longer if she still wanted it. However, on the plus side, as we were scooping out the leftovers from our army stew, a worker brought out a container of the soup broth for us, which was awesome, especially since no other place has done that for us. Given how similar the menu is to Wang Dae Bak's (even the wording and descriptions are almost identical), I wouldn't be surprised if Bay Pocha's owners are actually the same. Not always a good thing, but perfectly fine in this case! Regardless, we have no reason not to keep coming back in the future. See you guys again soon!
Spoke to manager over the phone regarding a birthday dinner for 24 people and the restaurant was able to accommodate us at a $35 per person deposit that was refunded once we arrived. Was also able to split the check per table order, which helped immensely as tracking who ordered what would be somewhat difficult. They do also allow cakes to be brought in and will light the candles for you! Had the kimchi fried rice along with the army stew and chicken wings to name a few. Overall the food tasted great and was satisfied with how the accommodation went. Multiple birthdays were taking place and the ambiance was a fun celebratory one.
Such a lively place in a quiet area! Plenty of parking, and highly recommend making a reservation as it gets packed after 7pm. I made a reservation for 3 at 7pm on a Sat. Service was amazing! The servers do a great job explaining the menu and the special menu if they have it. Korean Pear Juice: Can't go wrong! Comes in a lil can and they provide a cup and ice. Army Stew: So good! I typically don't like army stew, and I enjoyed this one since the broth wasn't too thick. A large portion, good for 3-5. We had left overs and was able to take it to go. Tteokbokki: Enough for all 3 of us! I loved how creamy it was, there's different options for this. Overall, such a fun spot for large gatherings. It gets packed and loud, so if you're looking for a spot to socialize, this is it!
Here's everything we ordered: Half and Half Fried Chicken Wings $23.95 I only ate the non-spicy ones and those were delicious! It's fried to perfection and each piece was so big, so meaty :) It came with a side of salad & radish. The dish didn't just come with chicken wings but drumettes as well. Soft Tofu Soup $18.95 I chose the non-spicy level, it comes with grounded beef and seafood. This is the most flavorful Korean tofu soup I've ever had. The broth is so rich and really taste like they've been boiling this for hours. They also give a lot of tofu, beef and seafood. Korean Miso Stew $20.95 My mom ordered this and this was such a big portion! This can definitely be shared between 2 people if you aren't to hungry. It came with plenty of seafood as well, this one had a lot of squid compared to the Soft tofu soup. Hot Stone Bibimbap $22.95 My partner ordered this one, this was also a pretty big portion and came with plentiful toppings. Stopped by around 10pm on a Saturday, and it was packed except for one table that they gave us. Our group decided to get a bunch of shareables: - kimchi seafood pancake: 3.5/5, the flavor on this when dipped in the sauce and amount of seafood in it was amazing... I just wished it was more crispy since the texture was more floppy - army stew: 4.5/5, this was great! Packed with flavor - bossam: 5/5, had this with the lettuce wraps, rice, and the sauce and scallions and it was very good. Meat was seasoned and tender This is the perfect place to go to for late night food that smacks without the wait. Prices were also very reasonable for what we got. read more

Bay Pocha was our final stop on my husbands birthday date night, and it was the perfect way to end the evening. We hit a few spots earlier, but since my husband is a big fan of anything Korean, this one really hit the mark. We ordered the soup it was on the pricier side, but definitely enough to share between two people. The broth was rich, spicy, and comforting. The noodles were perfectly cooked, the spicy pork and tofu added great texture and flavor, and the cheese on top was amazing it really brought everything together and, honestly, helped sober us up a bit! Despite it being super late, the place had a lively, K-drama worthy vibe. The decor, the music, the service it all made us feel like we'd stepped into Seoul for a night. Short version: Food is pretty good. Pricey and add-on prices are hefty. Staff are quick to respond to the call button. Spicy Pork $33 Between 2 visits, we find a different amount of meat and sometimes there are mushroom and onions. In the pic, it was all meat and well marinated. That time was awesome. Seafood Tofu Stew Different than others. Was not sizzling when it came to the table. Included zucchini and other ingredients I normally don't see in soondubu. Medium spicy had a kick to it. Kimchi Fried Rice Very wet. Tastes great with spam. Subbing with beef or even add on with cheese both costs $3-4. Crazy. Hot Tea (non-caffeinated) is free! Banchans are interesting. Nice place for snacks and drinks! We came with a large party, so had a bit of a wait but they were able to accommodate. My side of the table got the rose tteokbokki, chicken wings, and seafood pancake. The rose tteokbokki was good and not too spicy! I love seafood pancakes, but the one here was just ok. As a result, I crave korean food quite often. Come Sun night, we were watching a show and of course, I wanted korean food. I also wanted to try a new spot, so we decided to get a few items from Bay Pocha. For banchan, we got a small container of fish cakes, broccoli, mushroom, potato, and I'm pretty sure napa cabbage kimchee was in there somewhere as well. It wasn't the most generous portion of side dishes for spending over $40, but we always have kimchi and maybe other things at home, so not a huge deal. The squid was an awesome portion. Cooked nicely as well. Tender with a nice chew. The soondubu was okay. Not the most flavorful or spicy. I typically leave a note saying extra spicy, so there wasn't much heat given that. Even tho I found the soondooboo kinda bland, it did have a fair amount of tofu, seafood, etc. A great spot for squid. I'm definitely order that dish from here again. REVIEW #3678 read more

Just finished eating and I am still so full from the meal at Bay Pocha. My gf and I ordered the cheese corn, kimchi stew, carbonara ricecake and the galbijim special. Presentation of all the food was great and service was top notch. Ambiance was casual and the music was fitting for the night. I was able to meet the owner (Jay), he was polite and recommended the rice wine which was delicious. They are open til 1AM and am definitely coming back here with friends. read more

Food was excellent, especially for a late night spot. Cheesy corn, fried vermicelli with seaweed, and the galbi were the highlights. Unfortunately even though it was tasty and tender IMO the galbi is overpriced at $42 for one order. The price point ~$40/person without drinks felt a little high, which is my only reason holding this review back from 5 star. Service is pretty responsive, there is a call button on each table. Ambiance is great, feels like a typical late night Korean drinking spot with yummy food. read more
Came here on a Saturday night. Got lucky with parking and parked right in front of the restaurant. Our party of 5 was sat quickly despite it being decently busy. Service was great and the food was yummy too. We ordered the lychee fruit soju cocktail. $17. Tasted like real lychee, sweet and tasty. The five of us each got 1.5 shot of pour from the one order. 4.5/5 We also ordered a pitcher of beer and a bottle of soju for making somaek. Bossam was good. Friends all liked it, but personally it was a bit too fatty for me. $51.95 (3.5/5) Lettuce (ssam) was ordered separately $3.95. Seafood pancake was very good. $20.95. Plenty of squid in the pancake and tasted very fresh. This was my favorite item (5/5) Rice cake was not bad, $17.95. we added ramen to it +$4. Wasn't overly spicy. Pancake was packed with ingredients and slightly on the thin side. Fish roe stew was also packed with many seafood items. Soup was spicy, wish it stayed hot for a while. First time trying fish roe, it was grainy. Grilled squid was typical, chewy; sauce for it wasn't too umami. Banchan was good portion. Service was top notch, checked in on us pretty often and refilled water without asking. Both servers were constantly walking around. Nice and small intimate place! read more

Came in for dinner with 3 of my friends. Every thing we ordered was delicious, including drinks. Service was great! Fast & very accommodating. Place wasn't crowded as it was still early. Except for one dish we didn't approve- Japchae I don't know what kind of lazy work it was, it's not your traditional Japchae. It was pale, not even flavor, bo sesame oil or seed, huge slices bell peppers & cabbage??? & green onions. Will not be ordering that again. read more

Bay Pocha is the definition of "hole in the wall" eats that rock. Spicy pork, great service, and such a fun vibe it felt like a small getaway. After a hard day at work this is my go-to place to have a Sapporo and some good eats. read more
My go-to spot for comfort Korean drinking food. Spam and kimchi fried rice had the good spice and kimchi flavor. Could use more spam pieces though. Egg yolk was runny and helps to bind the rice and flavors together. Corn cheese was very buttery and corn pieces were sweet. Large portion! Batter for kimchi pork pancake could be cooked more; it wasn't crispy at all, but super floppy. Food came out quick after ordering, service was quick and staff was friendly. Quiet and convenient location on Ocean near 19th. Plenty of diagonal metered street parking and close to the Metro line. The place attracts all kinds of people ranging from SF State Students to Families and has KPOP background music and soju posters of BP's Jennie to get you into the K-Food eating and drinking mood! We had: Seafood Pancake which had a good amount of seafood but we wished it would have been a little crispier, Bossam or marinated boiled pork belly slices could have stood for a little more marinade and it comes with a pickled relish salad, note that lettuce is extra, and Japchae was a chewier version that I liked but wife didn't, note that Beef is extra. All the food was tasty and good but just a little different than the more traditional K restaurants that we've dined at. As for service, Bay Pocha is meticulous as to place settings and checking up on the customers. We saw one person straightening up all the settings and chairs at each table with glasses on the plates all tilted at an angle pointing towards the seat. Additionally, another server checked on us as to drafts (we had an elderly person with us), hot tea, allergies or restrictions, food taste, etc... he wasn't intrusive and asked with sincerity versus asking because it's his job. Loved the K-pop music in the background. I mostly just liked the chicken katsu, but everything else we tried was good as well. The plates of food are pretty big so getting dishes to share is ideal. We went just a little before dinner time so it wasn't busy but by the time we were leaving, it was definitely getting full. There is some available street parking in the area. read more
My friends and I came here for dinner on a Thursday evening. It was pretty busy, but we were able to be seated right away. Food: I ordered the following: Vege Potstickers - These were really good! I was surprised they had a vegetarian option. French Fries - Standard, but good. I love most fries. Steamed Egg - I originally thought this was vegetarian, but it is seasoned with shrimp paste. Do not order if vegetarian. Carbonara Rice Cake without fish cakes - This was interesting as I had not seen this anywhere else. It was like the rose rice cake without the spicy red sauce portion. It was on the sweeter side even though it is a savory dish. I added ramen to it, and the noodles were good. My friends ordered the army stew and seemed to enjoy it. Serve portion size was very big. Menu says 2-3 people, but I can definitely see more people sharing it. Service: Service was quick and to the point. We ordered, and our food came out promptly. This place was overall fantastic! We got the army stew and the bossam, and both were flavored perfectly. The army stew had all the right ingredients as well as a delicious saucy soup, and the bossam was soft and tender. The only thing is that the service wasn't the fastest, and they didn't check in on us... really ever. The noise levels here also felt a bit off / sensitive overall. read more
Second time here and food is generous portion. It was fast service and there wasn't too many people on Sunday so it was easy to find parking. I got the kimchi stew with pork and it was so delicious but I do prefer if they cut the kimchi up so it's easier to eat. The chicken wings with the sauce is super delicious as well. The vibe at Bay Pocha is loud. The restaurant was full at 8pm with a line outside. It is mostly college age people. The food here is OK. We had the wings $22, spicy wings $24, kimchi fried rice $19, pork belly $32, jap chae $19, bulgogi $35, seafood pancake $21, spicy pork $33 and rice cake $19. The one standout dish was the wings. That was great. Not the spicy wings, that was meh. I love it when the sizzling iron plate dishes come out of the kitchen. You can smell that intoxicating sweet Korean BBQ meat aroma. The food was soooo amazing! We got the japchae, garlic cheese fries, fish cake tteokbokki, and kimchi potstickers! Service was helpful! They have a button on the corner where you can push a button to get the servers attention. Everyone around us were enjoying their food. Couldn't help but not to look over at their food orders as well. The decoration is very pretty too! read more

Went to this spot for a late dinner and tried the stir fried chicken and the soft tofu stew. Both were hot and delicious and hit the spot. Although I wouldn't consider it my fave Korean restaurant in the city (there's tough competition) it was a solid pick and I would come back to try more things with a group. read more

This place was BUSY on a Friday night. We got here around 9:30 pm for a late dinner. Even put ourselves on the waitlist while driving over! Still had a bit of a wait when we got there too. The server was friendly and upbeat which made the dining experience even better! Soju is pricey and the bill was steep for 2 people. If you wanna leave your worries behind and immerse yourself in a loud crowd, which we did, it was perfect! Not everyone feels like that type of ambiance all the time. So I can understand that some customers might rather have a quiet dining experience. Just know this place can get that way during the weekends! Food was good, but not great. ***OUR PICKS*** HOT STONE BIBIMBAP ~ it came hot but the rice didn't get toasty like it should so I sent it back to get the rice crispy! I was fine waiting and it was much better when I got it back. They even added extra vegetables which made it look like a whole new bowl! 4/5 SPICY PORK ~ BF said it was a bit wet and saucy compared to other restaurants. Tasted ok. And there was a lot of meat though very little rice with it. 3.5/5 YOGURT SOJU COCKTAIL ~ pretty sweet tasting that it masks the alcohol flavor. Good but less alcohol in it. We ordered a few bottles of soju and our server, Christian said the jinro zero sugar was on the house! But when we got home, we noticed it was on the bill! Sigh...and he had a few shots with us too. Despite that, we had fun. 4/5 They only give 4 ban chan dishes. I'm used to seeing a variety of at least 6+ dishes. And kimchi wasn't among the 4?! That was shocking. We may go back and get some Korean Fried Chicken. Other tables had it and it looked really good! We wanted to eat light so we only ordered our entrees. But if we're in the neighborhood, we might come back for wings! read more

We got there shortly before noon. It was empty. We got the fish cake skewers stew. It took a while to prepare and the side dish wasn't very interesting. The broth in the stew was quite salty. Overall, it was okay. It was a lot of fish cake. We tasted variety of fish cake. We thought there might had something else. There weren't much of vegetables. Walked-in and got seated very quickly. The atmosphere is lively. The side dishes served were okay. It came with mushroom, seaweed, potato, and broccoli. The broccoli and potatoes were good but the mushroom and seaweed side dishes were not my favorite. The mushroom was too sweet for my liking and the seaweed side dish just didn't stand out to me. The main dishes we ordered the bossam and the carbonara rice cakes. The carbonara was way too sweet which I suspect comes from the onion and carrots added in the dish; paired with the natural sweetness from the cream, I think it was excessive. It lacked the savoriness I was looking for in carbonara so I personally did not like this dish very much. The cook on the fishcakes were very good. Perhaps their other rice cake dishes would be more my taste. The bossam was delicious and came with a large portion. The cook and cuts on the bossam were not uniform, some cuts juicier than other and cut thicker than others. The dish came with an onion salad (?) and a side of jalapeno, raw garlic, and fermented soybean paste sauce. I noticed the soy bean paste sauce was not as pungent as it normally is so I had to get extra from the server. I'm more used to eating bossam with cabbage so the onion salad was different. I personally don't mind onion but would've like some cabbage as an option to eat with the bossam. Overall, the service was friendly and fast, and the quality of ingredients used were very good. Korean restaurants are not common near Stonestown, and it's nice that Bay Pocha offers this experience here. They have decent Korean food, with some fusion options, alongside decent banchan. They also have very large portions, so plan accordingly! I would also say that the portion size is also a limiting factor, as their prices lean high to justify the size, but makes it hard to try multiple dishes without hurting the wallet. When it gets packed, food also takes a while to arrive. Overall a decent Korean joint with good food if you're in the area, but there are comparable and more affordable options in the city otherwise. read more

First time trying army stew at Bat Pocha and it did not disappoint! I've seen it featured so many times in Korean dramas and was always curious about how it tastes turns out, it's absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich, comforting, and perfect for sharing. Despite the place being packed , we were seated right away, which was a pleasant surprise. The service was friendly and efficient, making the whole experience even better. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes! read more
