OMG I love this place. They have a small garden in the back of this cafe, where you can sit back, relax and drink your coffee. The garden is really pretty and calm. omg, i am SO glad that my friend found this place spontaneously to grab a cup of hot warm london fog because this place had to be THE best place i have ever gotten a london fog (here and one other place in vancouver haha). I have been chasing this taste forever and i'm so glad i found it once again almost 10 years later because everywhere else, the london fog is absolutely disgusting. I highly recommend coming here for a nice hot drink (although parking is absolutely hard to find) because the interior is super open, there are things for one to do, an open bathroom for people to use and the most kindest staff ever who are so chill. definitely go go go!! read more

I have a Sunday ritual of visiting a different coffee shop every weekend and enjoying an Americano and a good lunch. So I thought I'd start leaving reviews on these based on three criteria (5 being the best): Food, ambiance, and extras. You're probably wondering why I'm not grading on coffee? Well because I'm not an expert, but what I do know about is the above topics. Food: 2 Though they had a good verity with the basics of soup, salads, and sandwiches, they also had curries on the menu that I found to be unique to this cafe. I, however, had the three cheese grilled sandwich #fancygrilled cheese. I wasn't a fan. The cheese blend didn't really mix well since they were all very strong flavored cheeses. This also caused the sandwich to be extremely greasy and heavy. The sandwich came with a salad that was poorly dressed with bottled dressing. I do have to say, people must like the curry here since I overheard many order it, however, they were out. Ambiance: 4 This place lives up to its name. It's quite cozy, in like a grandma cottage way. It's made up of miss match tables and chairs with a nook in the back for people that really want to hide away. Along with the miss matched furniture, the coffee mugs were really cool as they looked to be handmade. Unfortunately, they didn't retain the heat enough for me to comfortably pick up my coffee to drink it... The staff was super friendly and helpful and also added to the atmosphere as they were quirky in their own way. It was very quiet and empty when I went in, so there's plenty of seating, which is always nice. No struggle in finding a place to sit or asking if you can share a table. Extras: 5 Strong wifi! The wait on a pre- made buttered biscuit was 30+ mins during slow/ medium foot traffic, and it was served cold. 30+ minutes! They forgot our other order. Watery coffee came in even later. Everyone's orders were delayed and some other customers also seemed to have complains about their orders not coming through quite right. Bazaar Café is a quirky mix of old and new, from the guitars in the window, piano in the corner, old counter stools, nook with CDs and board games, and the assortment of dinosaur toys on the ledge. It feels laid back there without being as grungy and dirty as some other coffee houses (on second thought, it is a bit grungy). The front room is brighter but I like the back room where it's soothing and dark and each table has a tiny desk lamp. Relax in their garden patio with its ample supply of ashtrays. They have live music and open mic nights. The free wi-fi is secure and there are plenty of places to plug in your laptop. If you sit at the larger table, you'll probably have to share it with strangers. They have a bathroom (just renovated). The menu is Asian influenced (one of the owners is Japanese and she makes the curry and some other items?): teriyaki bowl, unagi bowl, wasabi popcorn, Japanese curry and Japanese rice soup. They have rice milk and soy milk. They have the regular coffeehouse items like bagels, sandwiches (including paninis and melts), salads, great homemade soups, quiche, cookies and oatmeal. Plus they have pies and you can have good old fashioned pie a la mode. And, they serve wine and beer as well. My latte wasn't so good, on the watery side. The chai was good but watery. The unagi bowl ($6.50) made for a nice, light lunch - tender unagi atop plump short grain rice topped with chopped scallions in a lacquer bowl. The rice had a sweet teriyaki like sauce and was a bit soggy at the bottom. The chicken curry (Japanese style, $6.50) was also decent but the curry is thinner than I prefer (watery). It comes with large chunks of carrots, onions, peas, potatoes, and boneless chicken cubes and a side of white steamed rice. The curry is sweet and tastes like S&B curry powder is used. I had the egg bagel sandwich - didn't like it too much because it came with mealy sliced tomatoes. The eggs were microwaved. They are heavily reliant on the microwave. The bagel was hard. The eggs were salty. I found a parking space on California Ave. in front of the café with unlimited free parking. Service can be slow since the place is typically run by one person who takes your order, makes your drink, makes your food, rings you up, etc. One of the better places for food, free wi-fi and ambiance among SF coffee houses. read more

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, Bazaar Cafe is a nice little respite from the rest of the world. Inside, the cafe is lit with natural light; outside, both in front and around back in the garden, there's room to sit and enjoy a hot or cold drink and watch the neighborhood quietly. I came here yesterday and found Bazaar the way I described it above: Mellie P. and I chose to sit inside by the piano, but we still got a good view out towards California Street. Service was personable and quirky; our lunch orders took 5-10 minutes to prepare, but that was fine since we weren't in a rush. What initially attracted me to Bazaar was the unique menu it had: unlike other cafes, there are Japanese specialties on the menu (I heard that one of the owners is Japanese), such as unagi bowl and okayuu (rice soup). These specialties plus sandwiches, salads, and the usual cafe fare round out the menu at Bazaar. Prices are also pretty reasonable in terms of the food: $6.50 for the a generous portion of unagi, $6 and under for the sandwiches. I ordered the unagi bowl and a large chai with a stick of cinnamon. The unagi was all right, although it could have used some sauce. However, I got plenty of rice under the unagi, so that made up for it. The chai had the right kick of flavor with the cinnamon stick inserted. The pastries/cookies display looked very enticing, but I had to pass on them since my stomach hasn't been too agreeable this past week. The atmosphere is comfortable and small-town like to me; seems they get a lot of live events going on in terms of open mic, poetry, etc. To me, it felt like I wasn't even in San Francisco; instead, maybe I was somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. We have a great block now. The Bazaar has been here for a long time and features late hours, a little Asian-theme in its menu and rollicking support of live music / local artists. Great patio / back yard and it's been adopted by my ten-year old. She likes to grab some coins from the change dish and get herself a hot chocolate or a hot dog, and she gives props to both. Since I can see into the Bazaar from our window, I figure it's safe. With Angelina's on the corner and now the new 6001 market, we are really set around here. read more

I've been coming to Bazaar Café for many years, and when the original owners passed the torch to new ones, I was worried that my favorite place in the world will completely change. New Bazaar is just the same, but better! New energy added to the same community spirit, cozy and homey feel with food & features upgrades. Food is eclectic and delicious. Everything homemade, from the pastries, biscuits and curry to the bread sandwiches are made with - Josh is a perfectionist who fine-tunes and beta tests the recipes for months before they're officially released. There's always something new to try. Coffee is excellent as well, but my favorite is the gorgeous back yard garden, lovingly taken care of. Especially now during the pandemic, being able to sit outside in a lovely and safe space is sanity saving. We can also order stuff for pickup ahead of time, but I usually don't because I love chatting with the staff while waiting for the order. Their pandemic measures are impeccable - all seating spaces are distanced and I've seen them disinfect the tables and chairs on a regular basis, there's plenty of air, food and drink are served in eco-friendly disposable containers, and they even built hands-free sanitizer stations both up front and in the garden. We regulars miss bumping into each other on a regular basis, but the spirit of the community still goes on online through live music shows on Facebook and Instagram Bazaar puts up, and it's always great to see staff's friendly faces. read more

We had a really nice, low-key outdoor party at Bazaar last weekend. The owners were so kind, and the prices for renting out the venue were super reasonable. The garden is lovely at night, white lights, music, wine, and friends -- it's like a little oasis in the Richmond district. Good place for artistic expression with music players and poets taking over the front shop playing though the night. Local artists are featured by this cafe on their own schedule which can be found on their website. Tiny little coffee shop with a home made feeling. Warm and inviting with lots of books, hand made signs, trinkets and things on the table. Going to your best buddies house never felt this good. Nice garden out back gets you away from the noise and claustrophobia you will feel being in this cafe. Only three stars due to a menu item "Cambell's Soup and Grilled Cheese" $7.50! I mean, really? Canned soup? I realize that this is a small business with a quirky DIY mentality but this is pure laziness. If not lazy than just plain strange. Not only the price but the choice to serve soup out of a can with melted cheese bread and call that your own creation. Sometimes a little effort goes a long way. Excellent little hole-in-the-wall cafe with amazing service! Their menu is small but perfect for the atmosphere. The best is to go out back into the garden area and enjoy your coffee, tea, bagel, etc. My fiance had the tuna sandwich and highly recommended it. We came with a fairly large group (~8 or so), which was clearly more than they could handle easily and the girl working there kindly brought us cookies for the wait. I came here after getting kicked out of another coffee place a few blocks down for reaching my wifi usage limit. The first thing I asked to the girl behind the counter was if this place was laptop friendly. I can't think of enough good things to say about this place. The decor feels like I'm visiting my rich grandma's house, right down to the cups and plates. This is a good thing. It's very comfortable. Their music matches the ambiance perfectly! On to the food. Where else can I order a salmon salad for $6.50? You tell me. It was not very filling, but still delicious and worth the price. Just stopped by the Bazaar cafe on a Tuesday morning, and found it a fine place to sit for an hour or two. Bike parking is available right outside the front door, as well as seating in front and out back on the patio should the weather turn out alright. Wifi was consistent and it's easy to get some work done here. Reasonably priced coffee and handmade cupcakes along with cookies and bagels and daily lunch specials all less than $10. Price Range: I got a yummy giant chocolate chip cookie dipped in white chocolate for $1.75 and a so-so lukewarm medium decaf for another $1.75. Their coffee selections range from $1.50 for a small regular coffee to about $4 for the fancy stuff. Bagels are about $4, as is their bottled and canned beer. Coffee: From my personal experience with the mediocre decaf and from the other reviews I've read on Yelp, coffee doesn't seem to be their strong suit-- a strange thing for a coffee place. A friend of mine ordered the hot apple cider, which I tasted and found quite enjoyable. Ambiance: What this cafe lacks in superb food/beverage, it more than makes up for in its cool West Coast chill ambiance. The hardwood floors are scuffed and scratched with character, off-beat paintings adorn the walls, and garden gnomes and vintage musical instruments are scattered around for effect. Seating: There are plenty of places to sit in each of their little rooms and nooks. There are also the three or four bar stools at the counter, as well as a table by the front window. Reading Comfort: We were here on a Thursday Open Mic night, meaning that everyone's attention was focused on the performers. There is no laptop use allowed in the front room during performances. My friends say that it's a great place to read and study when there aren't performances in progress. Rush Factor: Again, I have yet to read or study here, but my friends who frequent Bazaar say that they sit for hours studying during the day without feeling rushed out. Verdict: If you come during the day, feel free to bring a book or laptop. If you come in the evenings, it's the perfect place for a relaxed and fun night out with friends during the week. I tried a few and my favorite were the chocolate chip cookie and Banana Nutella Bundt cake! My second time ordering it turned out slightly better, but I know better now than to order it again. This one time their half&half milk poured out little chunks of milk. I informed the worker of this, and she said that the milk doesn't expire until next week. I said ok... but this doesn't look right, and I am not trying to get an upset stomach. She then said, ok I can replace your coffee if you want... Um, well duh that's what I want. I'm surprised she even had to question it. Salmon Salad - nothing special. salmon (probably from costco) over mixed greens (probably also from costco). Grilled cheese and pesto sandwich - pretty tasty, but small portion for its price. I guess it looks nicer with the side of pretzels.. A little too oily for my liking. Chicken curry - this is probably the biggest food item on the list. Roughly the same price as everything else. Not bad, I would get it again on a cold day. Something I like and would get again are their fruit pies. Pretty good after heated. I LOVE their ambiance though and this is seriously the perfect place to study. Parking is abundant, and their background music creates a relaxing environment. This is by far my favorite cafe in SF, which is saying a lot considering it's the place to go for hipster coffee drinkers. Pre-COVID they had the most phenomenal open mic on Thursday nights which they've kept alive on Zoom. They've transitioned to COVID protocols very well. You order at the door and there's even a hands free sanitizing station that, according to their facebook page, was locally conceived and built. The best part about this place is the vibe. Every single person who works there treats you like an old friend, it's wholesome in the least pretentious way possible, and their backyard seating is an oasis in a busy city. All of the pastries are incredible and they're always trying new recipes and ideas that they show off on their social media. It really feels like you're going to a friend's house for coffee and cookies. Last thing I will mention is that the biscuits are incredible. It was OK in 1998 & a few years afterwards. It was the place for acoustic music & open mic. Competition became fierce, & open mics at other venues were numerous, where most, if not all, have a PA system. Bazaar remained popular to a certain niche, & KC Turner's Bazaar Stock quickly became Animal House: too many noisy people in a closet-sized space with no amplification. KC can now move the singer songwriter showcase to a more suitable venue with modern facilities. As for the Bazaar Cafe as an eatery (final day August 11, 2018), too many other places to patronize. Eclectic and quirky, Bazaar captured my heart with their garden patio, dinosaur toy collection, live music, listening station of local musicians, cheery yet slightly emo baristas, vegan treats and Italian cream sodas. There are many crannies and rooms for the wandering, adorned with random artsy/kitschy tchotchkes, lending an atmosphere of an open-armed hippie's home. The communal tables and couches are inviting and the free wi-fi might keep you there all day. That is if the wine and beer doesn't. So into it. I have given several concerts myself at Bazaar Café, and as a young amateur musician I am very grateful for the opportunity to perform in such a safe and pleasant environment. Last night seven of my friends and I went over to Bazaar to see a couple bands my roommates told us about. I've been to Bazaar before for some comedy and I really enjoyed the place. However, within ten minutes we were getting rude stares and mumbles from the owner. Five of the seven of us bought food/beer, but the owner was clearly upset that not everyone bought something. After ten minutes of being there, he asked one of my friends if he could get him anything and my friend responded with, "No, I'm good." The owner rudely replied, "Oh, well I'm good too, but I need to make a living." My friend said that he didn't have any money, to which the owner replied, "Well, I accept cards." Then said, "It's a one item minimum to stay here." You expect small businesses to be hospitable and relaxed, so for a coffee shop owner to be so pushy and relentless to his customers is off-putting. After the music, we went in the back to smoke. The owner came out five minutes later, and looked like he was checking up on us to see what we were doing in the back. He stood there for a minute, and then went back inside. At the end of the night, we were all out front chatting with the other people who were at the show. The owner, leaving the shop, walked past us passive aggressively shaking his head and loudly sighing. This time at Bazaar I didn't enjoy myself and felt watched the entire time. I thought a small show at my local coffee shop would be fun, but my friends and I left annoyed and frustrated. If the owner was nicer about everything, I'd come back. But now I won't. There are other small coffee shops who appreciate my business. read more

Nevermind that this place is run by hippies. Nevermind that you can hear the crunch and smell the granola from a block away! The hippies can't even keep me away from the delicious pesto melt sandwiches and pecan pie to which I am now officially addicted. The quiches aren't bad, either. They have a crazy and eclectic menu that includes everything from wasabi popcorn to peanut soup to standard sandwiches and numerous daily soups. Skip desserts other than said pie- they're dry, overly sweet, and taste kind of musty. They have open mic nights, bands, book reading, etc. I've never been but other people have said they enjoy. They also have some sort of music listening station where you can listen to local artists and I think the cafe produces compilation cds of the various performers who come through. Interesting. It seems a little culty and it's always strangely quiet inside. So go outside to the adorable patio to enjoy your hippie pie. They also offer free, secure wifi for those of us who can't enjoy our hippie pie without a side of Yelp. read more
