I wanted to get something special delivered to my young staff coming in to work overtime early on a Sunday. They're young adults/students that typically prefer eating more of a SAD diet, but I've been vegan since 1980; try to gently, respectfully encourage them to eat healthier, natural foods when possible. Considered ordering donuts, but just couldn't bring myself to do it - I just so want them to stay healthy. Decided to go out on a limb with delivery of healthier food, and was happy to find this vegan option, for one vegan staff member, too. While I was flabbergasted at first by the prices (even after living 6 years in SF), I was even more flabbergasted by how much better a Beloved smoothie bowl is than any other smoothie bowl I've ever had. I had the Green Goddess bowl, which had complex flavors and textures far beyond my expectations. I'm still new to the world of veggie/vegan options, but it's what I feel I need now for my own health, to reduce my risk of cancer in a toxic polluted world- and also to be more in alignment with my own morals and values to not cause more harm than good or contribute to global problems which is not just about animal cruelty- it's really foremost a humanitarian issue. And people living in poverty- which is disproportionately people of color around the world- they will all be paying the highest price and are the most vulnerable. And then yes, the damage to our environment and animal world too- it's all heartbreaking to me. So I brought myself and my broken heart here, and found it super soothing and healing. I wasn't missing anything here even still as a die hard omnivore, when everything here was so beautiful and delicious. I'm glad I came here and not to Urban Remedy which I'm familiar since it's already so commercialized and available at Amazon's- I MEAN- Monsanto's PR storefront- DOH! I MEAN- "Whole Foods"! Kidding. Kind of. Urban Remedy still has good stuff. I'll still check them out some other time but they're also pretty expensive for what tiny portions you get. This place looked more unique and appealing to me. If this is what veggie/Vegan is about? With glowy, beautiful people to serve you so kindly? I'm DOWN for that. Would like to be more like them. I wasn't missing anything when all the options looked delicious and it was hard to choose. Right when I walked in I was hit in the face with a potent chocolate aroma- from brownies baking. drove me crazy the whole time in a good way. I had the citrus kale salad with hummus add on. And I had a chocolate-medicinal mushroom hot drink that was deeply soothing. The place made me want to cry it was so relieving. The only annoying part was someone intruding on the space with fuckin' Postmates (eye roll). It really goes against the whole point and intention of the space. As the super kind service lady assertively but diplomatically mentioned- yeah it takes up their time and service and they don't even get tipped for it. And the Postmates guy seemed embarrassed and apologetic bc he was aware how out of place and annoying his presence was there AND also was aware of the whole not-tipping issue- but then- a lot of those big tech companies including one I work for- FAIL to TIP their service providers very well if at all. It's pretty disrespectful to the real local community, and no we don't appreciate it. I wish a place like this would just BAN Postmates and the like altogether - bc they are going to be Beloved anyway and should have no problem with business. I will certainly be back and support bc they're worth it, I'm worth it, even if I "can't afford it" I also can't afford NOT to have this sort of healing food and energy source in my life. So worth it. Also appreciated their beautiful bathroom. Always a bummer and somewhat inhumane when tiny tea or coffee shops refuse to allow use of the bathroom you know they really do have. When it's their beverages that are running through you in the 1st place. Its a blessed Oasis in a concrete jungle. I'm super grateful already for such a wonderful foray and welcome to the wonderful world of veggie and raw veganism. The kale salad was divine, super satisfying and kept me full for hours. Still amazing.... only thing that's getting me down is that people have the nerve to work on their laptops here. It's like desecrating a sacred, sanctuary space where people can go to actually meet new people and connect, retreat and get AWAY from screens. There's like a million other WiFi cafes that welcome that sort of antisocial work all day behavior, this isn't actually one of them so have some respect for the space and go someplace else to work on your computer. It's a mistake, and they probably won't share the WiFi password anyway moving forward. It ruins the vibe for other people. It's a very small intimate space and there just isn't the counter space for it. there are plenty of other appropriate places for that, this is not one of them. Found this little gem in San Francisco! Perfect for a little date for brunch! It's a bit tiny 10 seats or so but the atmosphere is perfect to unwind. We ordered a Chai tea that was spicy little tea and delish!!! Also ordered the Green Detox and the Golden glow juice followed by a delicious and savory Quinoa Bowl and Roasted vegetables with a Nut Hummus! Ok, I have to say it was reallly really GREAT! I have been here couple times and it has been good until this visit. We have ordered food and tea but we sat there for twenty minutes without anything coming not even a glass of water. Other customers came in and the two servers were just busy taking orders instead of offering what we have ordered. The two other customers came after us and already finished their bowls. We were just starving and thirsty waited for a long time. Sigh...maybe it was just a bad timing when we came in cuz there were just two servers and the tea section is empty. This cafe is extremely unique! It's a tiny, cozy place filled with interesting decor - and overall, I liked their smoothies and dessert. My favorite was this pomegranate cake - it had an extremely distinct flavor that probably not everyone would love, but I was a huge fan. My smoothie was good, but it was a little too strong on the ginger (I couldn't finish the whole thing because of this - hence 4/5 stars). Such a cozy getaway in a bustling area of the Mission! I came here with a friend as we were searching for something nourishing after a long run. We shared the morning ritual (an "herbal coffee" - still don't know what that is, but it was good) and I got the Buddha Berry bowl. The portions are huge and the toppings are generous - such a SF rarity! They make the granola for their smoothie bowls in house, and I liked the minimal added sugar. I felt like a vision of health AND it kept me full for almost an entire day! I'd love to come back and try their savory items. Their quinoa bowl looked like it was a thousand percent of your daily fiber! They're open pretty late for any late night smoothie cravings. They make everything fresh, so it takes a bit longer than your typical Project Juice run. It's more of a "wander in and linger" kind of place. I'm a picky vegan and Beloved Cafe asks me all the right questions. The service is patient, thoughtful, considerate, and surprisingly personally catered for the price point. It's a unique and tiny space and the designer has worked magic to maximize the vertical space. It's cozy and you may not get a seat in the traditional sense. In this way, the restaurant can challenge one's notions of dining comfort. Last night, I was in the restaurant when a woman started an argument with my favorite server, Clare. Clare was so kind to her despite her insistence on using increasingly threatening language and for what?? Because she was left standing without being served for what couldn't have been more than a minute. I felt bad for Clare and wished they would have thrown the woman out as she deserved. It was clear the woman was working out deeper problems. I just wished she wouldn't have to project her anger and frustration on innocent ppl; berating the waitstaff at Beloved Cafe. The irony wasn't lost on me. Another woman tried taking my order while making tea. I responded I could wait. They are so busy! Honestly, I am always so happy and grounded after I leave Beloved. Tried two different smoothie bowls-- red Velvet and Green Goddess (i think)... definitely recommend the green goddess.. its one of the best acai/ smoothie bowls i've had. Smoothies and smoothie bowls are one of my staple dietary items whether i am at home or traveling. Have tried several over the years in Seattle, Austin, places in Europe and this one is pretty darn good. People here are saying this place is "sooo SF" "cliche" "gentrification" but I am a native San Franciscan and I welcome this place, soo much better than all the blah American cuisine Michelin star overrated expensive crap that is all over the mission. This place is NOT techie. Thank God. It seems to be inspired by Bali, or some other far away Eastern place, that takes me far away from the "new SF" that I can barely stand anymore. It is so charming. Yes, it is a bit pricey but I don't blame them, for the quality of ingredients is excellent. You can get a good satisfying meal for $15...it is the warm decadent delicious drinks or smoothies that add the tab...however it seems like the ingredients they use are top quality (compared to the overly fruity/sugary/sweetened options at most mainstream cafes). The flavors are just right, and fresh. (But the chipotle sauce is too spicy.) I ordered the Golden Milk and the quinoa bowl and it wasn't too much quinoa YAYE!! It was mostly vegetables. The nut based hummous was perfect, tasted like tahini which I like. These food conscious owners know the corrrect ratios of grain to veggie and fat, and they are gluten and dairy free. Amazing cafe with delicious food and shakes however, the service is usually terrible. I come one or more times a week and my or my friends order is often forgotten about. Getting a smoothie will take at least 20 if not 30 minutes and the tea service is just as bad. Definitely don't come here if you're in a hurry. The service can particularly frustrating when you see the staff cleaning dishes and unpacking boxes and basically doing every task but making your order. Then you'll ask them how much longer and they treat you like an idiot for asking. I'd really love to give this place a better review because I think it has a great atmosphere and a really delicious menu but the wait time is debilitating and the attitude when you ask questions isn't friendly at all. read more

Four of us went to beloved on a rainy Saturday afternoon for lunch. While it can feel a bit cramped when you enter, the chill vibe of the place sets the tone. We were all happy with out beverages, I had the green hulk and it was the perfect balance of greens and sweetness from the peanut butter and dates. I had the grain bowl as a main with tempeh which was superb. Everything was cooked to perfection and the tempeh was really tasty. I highly recommend but go with the knowledge it is a small place and takes a bit of patience. read more

This is my #1 local favorite. I come here literally almost every other weekend to get the Healthy Glow Bowl. Though the wait takes a while, this is because the ingredients are super freshly blended. The Red Velvet smoothie bowl is absolutely delicious - filled with nutritious ingredients and a hint of cocoa. Generous portion size, had to pack some of it to go! The ambiance is absolutely wonderful. The greenery and spices on display create an enjoyable experience. I also had fun browsing the pages of one of the communal cookbooks on display. Came here twice. Tonight I was with the lovely staff, all ladies making the delicious bowl, Golden Milk & Squash dish. The service was impeccable and had a wonderful experience. On the other hand, two weeks ago Saturday, forgot the name of the guy but it took him 30 minutes to make a matcha hot drink and 20 minutes to make my smoothie bowl. We were laughing when the order took nearly an hour to make. There were about 2 customers and it was not busy. He left the cup sitting at about 20 minutes and I did not remind him of my drink he forgot to hand it over... Please be mindful of your customers and be attentive of their time.
