Best Baguette is A-OK in my book. It's not the greatest, but for the price it's hard to beat. $3.50 or so will get you a giant baguette sandwich. All of their prices are fair but the sandwich is definitely the best deal. The place is clean. Staff is friendly, and they are pretty quick to serve. But I suppose "Best Banh Mi on the westside" or "Pretty Decent Baguette" wouldn't be as catchy. The banh mi here is great for the price. Most of them are priced around tree-fiddy ($3.50) and the portions are just right for a satisfying lunch. There's also more Americanized sandwiches like the ham & cheese or bacon and egg sandwiches if you're up for something different. The boba is a bit on the spendier side ($4 - Why does the drink cost more than the sandwich?). Still worth it as mine was tasted fantastic. Fresh too! There's a few cool things that Best Baguette does that other banh mi places don't: *Veggies on the side - You can ask for the vegetables separately in a little plastic pouch. Perfect for stealing your friend's pickled carrots. *Wheat bread - I haven't tried it, but you can replace the French bread for a wheat one. *Cool drink choices - Look at the special menu for some seasonal treats, like watermelon juice, sugar cane juice, or bubble tea mixes...my coco mango boba was smooth as silk. *Soups - They make a pretty decent beef stew or curry soup if you're not into bread. Don't come here expecting any bao or Pâté chaud. If you'd like to explore Portland's banh mi scene, check out the triumvirate: An Xuyen (my absolute favorite), Best Baguette, and Lanvin Bakery. This place is kind of different for me, but I like it. The sandwiches are cheap, as in the lower three dollar range. They are heavy on the veggies, with carrots and fresh jalopies....available with a good selection of meats. They also serve a variety of on site made pastries and bubble teas. Besides then Bahn Mi they also serve more western sandwiches, chips, and a fountain with the Coke lineup. Some things to know, they only take Visa and Mastercharge and not even those if your order is under five bucks. Haven't come for quite a while due to the pandemic...but enjoyed our recent visit. Come here every time we are in Oregon. Sandwiches are still good and like that the there's hot food/meals as well now. Usually go for the #1 but wanted to try something different. We ended up getting the grill chicken and lemon grass chicken. The lemon grass chicken was good, but the grill chicken was so much tastier! Prices are super reasonable except the Vietnamese coffee. Love this banh mi place! I was introduced to this place by my friend a few years ago and was instantly hooked. I don't think you can beat delicious $3 sandwiches on freshly baked french bread. I always go for #4, the grilled pork sandwich, with extra jalapenos (and yes, they are HOT). Their bubble tea is great too! The tapioca pearls are always perfect cooked throughout, which sometimes is not the case in other stores. Thai bubble tea is my fave, mainly because I'm too lazy to experiment with the 20+ different flavor/bubble combination that they have. But that's not enough! They also have great other assortment of snacks like various buns (BBQ pork, custard, taro, etc) and other small deserts. Their prices are so reasonable too! I'm shocked and embarrassed that I haven't reviewed this place yet. "AAA" summarizes why I love this place. A - accessible. Their Beaverton location is in a really convenient location. There's plenty of parking and they're always open when I'm jonesing for a Banh mi sandwhich. A - authentic. If I were blindfolded, knocked unconscious, and then served a #1, I'm sure that I would have woken up in Vietnam with a delectable sandwich to help sooth my wounds. The crispy baguette is a wonderful French vessel for transporting pickled vegetables, pate, headcheese, and pork to my mouth. If the #1 doesn't pickle your daikon, then the 25 other sandwiches should fill your sub-shaped void. Sometimes I'll try the #14 which has pork and fried egg if I'm feeling wild. A - affordable. $3.25 for the #1. The cost-benefit analysis is a no brainer. I often buy 2 sandwiches at once and use the "no credit card for orders less than $5" as an excuse. Other random tips: these subs hold up very well when traveling. These subs tasted fantastic on top of Multnomah Falls. My friend has even flown back to CA with the #14s and they did fine. It's like $3 bucks or some ridiculous price. CHEAP HEAVEN IS HERE. My family has been coming here for the past several years. The prices are amazing and the food is fabulous. Our household is my husband and I, three kids, and my mom, and everyone like something different but we all love this place. I used to always get the pork bahn mi but I recently switched to getting the shrimp sandwich but swapping out the veggies with the asian style. So shrimp and cheese but with the veggies that come with the vietnamese style sandwich. It's divided asian sandwiches on the right side of the menu, the non asian styles are on the left. They have the only good boba I've ever had in Portland, the red bean is delicious and is actually sounding really good on this hot summer day! My vegetarian son loves the #12 which is tofu and veggies and my 5 & 3 year olds love the #5 which is beef. Make sure to specify no jalapenos if you don't want them, otherwise you might be in for a surprise when you bite in! They also have delicious croissants, sweet buns, raising bread and a few desserts. My mom loves to get the sugar cane juice and my husband loves the Thai tea. Some staff is friendlier than others. I should say some are just ok and some are really friendly and make me like the place even more. Last year, for our daughter's 4th birthday we bought 20 sandwiches and had them cut in 4th's to serve at her party and it was a big hit among a crowd that had mostly never had their food before. Pretty good banh mi. Comparable to the other Best Baguettes I've been to. Got the veggies in a sandwich bag separate to the bread itself and found that the portion size on veggies was actually quite small. The service was very good. The young gentleman behind the counter was very friendly and quick with our service. The banh mi order came out quicker than I had expected. We've been craving banh mi sandwiches since moving here from Seattle but hadn't found a good location. We were running errands in Beaverton and I stumbled on Brian I's review of this spot and when he mentioned that the Best Baguette leaves Jimmy John's in the dust (which being a Midwestern girl, I've always had an affinity for that chain) I knew we had to try it! It's a nice, clean cafe and as other fellow yelpers have mentioend has an extensive menu. We tried a grilled pork banh mi from the Vietnamese board and a club from the French board. The fresh baked bread was delicious--crusty and chewy at the same time! The price was great ($3 for the Vietnamese sandwich and $4 for the French one), I can't believe people still head to Subway with such great, inexpensive sandwiches. I used to love this Best Baguette but it's honestly been going downhill. My friend used to work here but her and others have quit. Theres new coworkers now and I hate to say this but most of them suck. The boba texture is hard as a freaking rock so it's not as great as it used to be. There's few times it's been good but most of the time it's been terrible. They also have been screwing up a lot of orders lately. 1. My bf got the incorrect sandwich. 2. I usually ask for extra jalapeños and ended up with NO veggies at all in my sandwich. I can't eat the sandwich without any veggies. Plus what a waste of my money because adding on is extra. Ugh. 3. Too much mayo and not enough chicken. 4. Undercooked meat is a no no. I had to keep an eye on every bite I was taking. 5. Half of my tapioca was soft while the other half was stiff. Take your time. The baguette here is a little hard for my taste, although it is very big in size. I can split it up into 2 for lunch and dinner or snack time. I don't eat pork, so I always get the grilled chicken banh mi. It is nicely seasoned, and overall banh mi is not bad. The bubble tea.. I could care less, so is the hong kong style milk tea. Too bad because milk tea is my favorite drink. I end up always skipping the milk tea for avocado shake, which tastes a lot better! I recommend get that one instead. They have pretty big variety of pastries. I tried the eclairs once, its ok, very sweet. While the food is ok, my boyfriend said that he felt really happy to have this kind of place in Beaverton where you can just casually come for some bubble tea and banh mi and hang out with a friend in the afternoon. My friend wanted a sandwich so we decided Best Baguette was a place to go. Even at 1 pm there were line long line, but the service is so fast it just have me enough time to ponder on my choices. Many came with their children and extended family members, and half the customers seem to take out so it wasn't too crowded. Everyone was smiling and enjoying the beautiful weather today. I chose #8 pate with tiramisu as a dessert. I like the fresh taste of the ingredients and not too strong flavores. Only down side is that flan, pudding, and che were all sold out.
