This place has relatively high reviews so I wanted to give it a try but ended up extremely disappointed. Got the orange chicken and fried rice, as well as shacha beef and lo mein. The fried rice and lo mein cost extra but...nothing had flavor. The fried rice had no egg or vegetables mixed in and again...zero flavor. Chinese food usually is hard to review. Everyone has their opinion of what it should taste like so it's hard to weed through the reviews. We really appreciated Big Bowl being open on Christmas day! Our typical Christmas involves staying in bed, binge watching shows and movies. And that is capped off with Chinese takeout! I called ahead to Big Bowl and yes! They were to be open. I ordered bbq pork and vegetable fried rice. My lovely Hong Kong friend noodles. We also ordered a side of egg rolls. My pork was decent. It didn't have the typical amount of flavor that I have come to appreciate with Chinese. The fried rice was good as well, not really favorable. The broccoli was in giant hunks so that led to some challenges sitting on the sofa eating. The egg rolls were quite good! Michelle's Hong Kong noodles however... typically they are under the meet and vegetables. Here it came in a separate container and they were solid as a bird's nest. They were crispy and very much undesirable. Overall, it was an ok experience and since we don't live it the area, we would probably try another restaurant before coming back. read more

Was looking for a good Chinese place because the one I used to go to became run down and the people just weren't the best. So was looking and almost everyone directed me here. So I've been put on a liquid diet and was dying for some egg drop soup when I walked in the nice young lady at the front was very kind and welcoming! I ordered a large egg drop and I got my boyfriend a lunch special of teriyaki chicken. Their lunch specials are so huge! Lots of food! You get a spring roll, egg drop, white rice, noodles, and your entree you chose from the variety of 28 different choices! Wow!!! I'm so jealous of my boyfriend right now!!! First time into this cute spot. Very COVID safety. This place was super clean, seating is every other table. Staff was very nice and professional, also wearing masks. We walked in to order Chicken Fried Rice, as we found this spot on google. We normally go to Benihana for chicken fried rice but Big Bowl is literally like a mile away, very convenient. Can't say enough about this place. Number one is the food is flat out delicious! Stayed 5 weeks in Mesa in our RV with 4 other groups. Went there 5 times!! That should tell you enough. A hole in the wall location. Looks like a converted DQ. Don't let that fool you. Well, I'm impressed. Last night l, I probably had one of the best sweet & sour chicken I've had in ages! Last night my husband and I decided we wanted to eat out but somewhere close to us in Mesa. So we called them to make sure they are indeed open till 9:30pm and that they would accommodate us if we arrived at 8:45pm and they said yes. So we headed there and we were on time. The owner greeted us and showed us the menu options on display in beautiful pictures on the order counter. We ordered beef Lo main combo and a sweet and sour chicken combo. Everything tasted delicious. The spring rolls, the sauce, the chicken, all great and the portion size was so big, we left stuffed! I must say, the owners are very nice and very proud of the quality of their food and now that I've tried the food, I know why. They have free delivery by the way to close locations too! It all tasted like it was fried in old fish oil. The noodles were mushy. The chicken tasted like it was previously frozen. The beef was rubbery. Even the rice was bad! Didn't even bother complaining at the restaurant because I don't think this was a one-off issue.. that's just how their food tastes.
