Upon looking at the menu, however, I was hesitant about what to order. It has a flair of American, Mexican, Mediterranean, Korean, and Italian. With that much of a variety, it gives me the impression that this place doesn't know what it wants to be. At best, the food would be mediocre, I thought. I was right. My wife and I ordered the Shakshuka and the bacon steak. Admittedly, the bacon steak was a mistake. It's two long strips of pork belly with a ton of bbq sauce thrown on top and a side of eggs and potatoes. Simple but a bit strange. She is a perfectionist at her craft and you can tell in the food she serves. I got a phone order from here, a breakfast burrito. Let me say, absolutely no regrets. I got it without bacon and it still was packed with flavor. One of the things I loved most was that the breakfast burrito was a good portion for one person. It was a day I couldn't take leftovers so I was happy that I could eat it in one serving. This cafe located in Lomita, in an area that is mostly residential, which can throw you off because you don't expect to find a business smack in the middle of what appears at first glace a residential area. It makes me wonder if this used to be a house that was converted to restaurant (do city zoning laws allow this?) But I digress... Since this is mostly residential, there is no parking at the restaurant or on the street of the restaurant as it's residential parking, but there is an offsite parking lot a half block away. It is a bit of a minor inconvenience but not a deal breaker by any means. It is something that would be helpful to note though. I got the kimchi fried rice, which wasn't bad: I appreciated that it has an nice kick to it, but it was just too salty. I think they could have toned it down a bit since they served it with Spam, which is plenty salty already. The Spam itself was fried to the point where its overcooked. I had to really saw my butter knife into it to cut it up. Spam is already cooked guys, if you want to fry it, you really just need to brown it a bit to give it some extra flavor. In all, this is just an okay brunch place. It may be worth checking out for yourself, but I probably won't be coming here again. read more

It seems like their most common business is take-out and catering, but the spot is cute enough to come in for dining as well. They also have a full coffee set up and baked goods, so this spot also doubles as a coffee shop. What I would order again: - Glass Noodles: Surprisingly flavorful and filling! You can choose to add Bulgolgi, recommended! - Chinese Chicken Salad: Simple enough but beautifully plated with edible flowers and tasty - Crack Fries: Who wouldn't order fries again... Yummy chipotle-type sauce splattered on top. Maybe I'd ask for some for the side for dipping. I wasn't too impressed with the Kimchi Fried Rice which seems to be a popular order. If you're not a big spam fan I recommend skipping this or swapping out that topping for another protein. I also ordered the Crack in a Cup which is a sort of intense and sweet coffee. Came here on a whim the day before Thanksgiving as I was waiting for a few shops to open. Best decision of my whole life. Everything on the menu sounds amazing but since it was breakfast time I went with the soft scramble breakfast sandwich. This is hands down the best breakfast sandwich I've had in life - which is saying a lot considering I come from NJ/NYC area (the bacon egg and cheese capital of the world IMO). This cafe is super cute and they have a fairly wide variety of entrees, from breakfast items to salads, sandwiches, and pastas. They also have Lamill coffee and cocktails. I got the green goddess chicken sandwich with crack fries, as well as the crack in a cup. Not sure what the crack trend is about because I'd say the "crack" items were pretty good but certainly not addicting. The crack in a cup is similar to a Vietnamese iced coffee - strong, sweet, and creamy. This was a bit too creamy for my liking. It was weirdly thick like a melted milkshake. I wonder if they use whole milk for it? Wasn't my favorite. The chicken sandwich was good if you're into cold sandwiches. It wasn't toasted and warm like I thought it would be, but it was pretty tasty. The portion was also quite generous. After I had the crack in the cup, I was only able to finish 1/4 of the sandwich and some fries! I could never complain about leftovers though hehe. I spent $24 for my portion which I thought was kind of pricy, especially considering I didn't buy a cocktail. Usually I spend this much on a mimosa brunch so I was a bit surprised, but considering I basically got two meals out of it, it's not outrageously expensive. Came here for brunch on a Saturday and sat outside with our dog. Looked very modern and spacious inside but also very homey and friendly and we were immediately greeted by the staff. The service was awesome as they brought water out to us (and our dog!) quickly and checked on us consistently even though we were outside. We loved that the chef brought out our food and personally thanked us for coming in! We ordered the crack in a cup (similar to Vietnamese coffee), crack fries, shakshuka and the churro pancakes. Crack fries - the sauce and cheese on these was delicious and the fries weren't over/undercooked. Shakshuka - came out hot in a cast iron skillet and was super tasty. Ton of flavor and the bread and eggs were a perfect combo. Churro pancakes - tasted as you'd expect, solid pancakes with churro powder. Awesome that this came with "boozy" syrup which was syrup in a bulleit whiskey bottle! Highly recommend this place for brunch. If anyone from the South Bay knows Lisa's bon appetit, this place blows Lisa's out of the water. This place is my new favorite. The interior is so cute. Gold chairs with a clean simple yet chic look. We ordered a lot to get a sample of everything. I mean who doesn't?! Haha -the bacon steak...the BOMB. It was so tender and comes with 2 pieces of thick cut pork belly and eggs and potatoes. The potatoes were perfectly fried. -chicken cacciatore was so good. I've had pastas where they are dry...this wasn't! It was so flavorful and had large pieces of chicken. -the crack fries were crunchy and had a little bite to them. So good. -the spicy pork meatballs were juicy and good. The sauce was addicting. It comes with bread and I secretly wanted to ask for me so I could dip it in the sauce haha. -dad's favorite: braised short ribs. SO GOOD. It was perfect and filling. -lavender latte: good and flavorful -chocolate chip cookie: gooey goodness. -peanut butter cookie: so soft and yummy -drip coffee: very good -crack coffee: thick and probably will have you up until 2am haha. -cheesecake: tasty and fluffy. This place is GREAT! The interior is super cute with marble top tables and gold chairs. My hubs and I ordered the spicy pork banh mi with crack fries, bulgogi philly cheese steak and the shakshuka. One thing to note is I do wish the servers would write down your order because out of the two things I ordered, both items came out incorrectly. Besides this little mishap, the service is really friendly and the owner/chef is SUPER nice! She came by to check up on us during our meal and was very friendly. You can tell she's very passionate about her business and it makes me want to keep coming back. Now onto the food.. they call them crack fries for a reason!! The sauce it comes with is BOMB and the fries are deep fried PERFECTLY and topped with this awesome seasoning (Old Bay maybe?). My hubs also ordered their crack in a cup (super strong coffee with sweetened condensed milk). It was SO GOOD! Tasted like melted coffee ice cream, would definitely order again. This place is super cute! Not open for dinner though. The chef herself brought out the food for us and she was so adorable. Feels like you can host a private party here. The waitress was really friendly as well! The portion sizes were very large for the amount you pay. Asian chicken salad (5/5) super flavorful and colorful with a huge portion size. The wonton strips were a little soggier and would've provided a good additional layer to the salad. Bulgogi Philly cheese steak (4.5/5) really good flavor but the bread was a little soggy for me on the bottom half of the sandwich. Crack fries (3/5) the fries that were touching the 'crack' portion were decent (spicy mayo based sauce with parm and parsley sprinkled on top) but it needed more salt overall. We ended up dipping the plain fries in our Bolognese sauce to add flavor. Bolognese (4/5) - there was a spicy kick to it and PLENTY of meat. Bites and Bashes Café is a new addition to Lomita from a mother-daughter chef duo (mama is the boss) that offers freshly made and tasty food. They are originally a catering company that does all sorts of events - private parties, corporate, weddings, etc. Well, people were asking when they were going to open their café, so they decided to do it. The restaurant is on the east side of Narbonne, just south of Pacific Coast Highway. There is generally plentiful street parking in the area, so you should not have a problem. The café is casual, light and bright. There is a take out counter as well as an eating counter and a dozen and a half tables. The white laminate tables, white walls and gold wire chairs are modern and sleek. The floor to ceiling windows mean lots of light. The polished cement floor means it gets noisy, but it is boisterous. We had a delicious meal and very friendly service. The menu is heavy on bread and pasta - not very gluten-free friendly - but there are plenty of vegetarian choices. The LOs decided to share a turkey sandwich ($11.50 + $3 for fries). Freshly sliced turkey is on a large crusty French roll with siracha aioli, pickled red onions, lettuce and tomato. There are some housemade pickles on the side that are just lovely. The kids loved the sandwich and the housemade fries topped with parmesan cheese and served with "crack" sauce which is a great Cajun aioli. DM and I split the Mama's Meatballs and each had a salad. The meatballs ($9) are out of this world - nine quarter size meatballs that are incredibly tender and moist and served in a sweet and comforting marinara with little toast points. I skipped the toast, but I scraped up as much of that sauce as I could with a fork. My kale Caesar ($11.50) was also awesome and beautiful. Shredded kale (a bit too much stalk) was tossed with julienned carrots and slices of radishes and a lovely dressing and finished with edible flowers and shredded parmesan. Just a great classic Caesar dressing. DM had the Chopped Salad ($14.50) which was equally delicious. Chopped romaine was tossed with a vinaigrette, thinly sliced red onion, slices of salami, crispy chickpeas, and chopped Kalamata olives. This is a very filling salad with that fantastic Italian deli salty-briney flavor. DD had the Sundried Tomato Alfredo ($13.50 which was a very generous bowl of penne pasta in a buttery cream sauce with sundried tomatoes, corn and shredded parmesan. It was rich and sweet - delicious. He also had the candied bacon ($8) which is a very generous cup of bacon that is crisped with chopped peanuts and this slightly spicy curry spice that is out of this world. They have a great wine selection - I loved the Kim Crawford Sauv Blanc ($11 a glass). I was disappointed that we charged for two milks when we asked for one milk split in two cups. I would have thought that would have been 1 milk charge, especially considering how much we ordered. You might want to watch out for those things. We finished up with a few petit fours and a cookie, all of which were delicious. The coco loco cookie was super fresh and was loaded with coconut, macadamia nuts and chocolate chips. It was amazing that they were not dry - coconut often does that. Among the petit fours, my fave was the rich and chocolatey brownie as well as the apple-cranberry cobbler. The S'mores were a close second. Don't get me wrong, the vanilla bean cheesecake and lemon bar were tasty too, but a girl had to have her favorites. It was fun to try a bite (about 1" square) of dessert for $1.50, but I hope that they pick some "full size" options that aren't quite so expensive per square inch. I also loved my latte - great quality coffee (about 30% more expensive than Starbuck's so La Mill must be pricey stuff). Overall, it was a great meal with fabulous service. I do hope that they add some specials to the menu - perhaps without pasta or bread - as well as some full size desserts. And next time, the kids get water rather than splitting that glass of milk. :) read more
