I have been here a couple time's and the food and everything is great. I was just there 12/4/2021 Saturday 5pm for my birthday dinner. I ordered a double cheeseburger and fires, the meat was probably sitting there since lunch it was not freshly made, the bacon was probably from breakfast and the fires were probably cook for a fast minute. Absolutely horrible food. My father went to black bear dinner after 8 pm after putting an order in at 745. My father had just gotten off of work after a 15hr day and just wanted something to eat. He wanted some of his favorite breakfast food from black bear. He ordered the scrambled bowl. Which includes gravy and didn't have any. The potatoes cold and there was barely anything served. The sausage was also burnt and gross. It looked like someone's left overs. He realized today he was not charged for the meal. And he says he thinks it's because they knew what they had served him.. By the time he got home and realized how bad his food was, the restaurant was closed and there was nothing to be done. We were seated and had to wait an hour before we got our order which came out at different times. Our waitress during that hour never came back to see if we needed anything or give us an update on our order! I often take my Motorhome to Fresno for service at RV Country and I always stop at Black Bear Dinner, they have an extensive menu with something for everyone, there Rubin Sandwich is amazing made with real corned beef, there Burgers are so,so good too and they serve Breakfast all day, also they have many Vegetarian options for people eating healthier which is something I'm trying to do. I always wanted to try this place ever since it opened in Fresno. Finally I was able to. The inside is very clean and the staff is friendly. Came here for a late brunch on a Tuesday afternoon the week of Thanksgiving. I had heard of Black Bear and seen the restaurant driving around california, but this was my first visit now that they have opened in Fresno. I expected nothing more than the average diner, but to my surprise I was very pleased. Walking in the ambiance is very homey and inviting. There is a little store area for their Black Bear Diner merchandise with seating while you are waiting to dine. The service was great, my coffee cup was always filled(which I need), and the portions, my god were huge. I wasn't able to finish it all, but the visit was well worth it. read more

Went today for Thanksgiving dinner. This is the first time that I have been disappointed in any meal I've had at any of the Black Bear Diners. I ordered the prime rib dinner and the piece of prime rib that I got might have been about a 1/4 inch thick but that would be stretching. It was overcooked (not surprising) since it was so thin and it was very dry. I will never order a prime rib dinner from them again. The picture on the menu showed an actual piece of prime rib that looked like it should. read more

Had breakfast and it not up to usual standard, waffles were was extremely dry, the other people with me had the issues also. the bacon was was not cooked enough and when we asked to make it a little more crispy they brought back burnt, the pancakes were awful tasted like they were cooked on a dirty grill. My wife and I came here for a Christmas meal. The photo that they showed of the Prime Rib made it look fantastic so we both order it, medium. It took a long time to get to us but when it did we couldn't believe what we were looking at. Very tough and seriously over cooked. We asked for boxes so we could take it home and give it to our dog. I lady was going to each table asking how their meal was. I waited until she got to our table. I just opened the box and showed her and told her that we ordered medium. She was very apologetic and said she would get replacements. She did that. That was great but the replacements were very over cooked also. The dog ate well that day. Came for breakfast on a Sunday. Wait was about 15 minutes, not bad at all. There is a cute little gift shopping in the waiting area. I ordered the grizz, it was a little bit of everything. Pancakes, ham, sausage, bacon eggs and potatoes. Portions were huge. Everything tasted great. The ham really stood out for me. I don't what it was was, but wow, delish! And i don't usually ham. They have pepper sauces at the table. The chipotle and habanero were really good. My new favorite in Fresno. Black bear has been known out side Fresno for years but we have one now. It's been open for a while now and just keeps getting busier. My favorite is the biscuit and gravy. Huge portions, you are going to leave full. If you like denny's you'll love black bear. Larger portions and better flavor. The staff is also top notch. I'm always greeted with a smile. Great service.
