Can't remember the last time I ordered a bowl of plain old Mac & Cheese for myself. This was such a treat for me! The Blueberry Cheesecake was quite dense and heavy. We weren't too fond of this item. The Mango Mousse cake on the other hand, was very impressive.t. I was quite surprised with how intense the Mango flavor was in this cake. The Mango flavor really popped out at us! Two thumbs up to Blue Parrot Coffee's Mango Mousse Cake! They sell a good selection of other items, including ice cream! They also offer free food for people short on cash. Was in the area and was surprised to find such an elaborate cafe inside a recreational center! They have quite an assortment of coffee beverages, smoothies, sandwiches, ready made meal, pastries, and ice cream. It is such a convenient location to grab a quick bite after spending time in the recreational center or when you are by QE park. During my visit I ordered a latte, Berry Good for You smoothie, ham and cheese sandwich, panini sandwich with tomatos, cheese and pesto and their blueberry cheesecake. Overall, the food was pretty decent. The sandwiches could had a little more flavour but was nice and simple for a quick bite. And a few tips: try to avoid going here on weekends as it does get extremely busy with kids classes and family visiting the recreational center, so might be a challenge to find parking and more of a wait time for your order. We were visiting Queen Elizabeth Park, and needed a little pick-me-up in the morning. We found this little cafe inside the Hillcrest Aquatic Center, which offers coffee (the latte was surprisingly decent), pastries, hot food and ice cream. Apparently the coffee is from Granville Island. The Aquatic Center is a good place to take a break, especially on a hot day. read more

I have only tried the specialty coffee like mocha and latte and they were not the best. Overly sweet and synthetic tasting for the raspberry mocha. They can be quite slow, in both coming to take your order and making your drinks. So do not order if you are in a hurry. As it is the only cafe in this center, it has a captive audience. I am always tempted by the baked goods though I have yet to try any. It also does get crowded after classes as people will just order drinks an have a chat at the tables. read more

I was not discouraged by any other reviews and decided to come in unanounced after walking (hiking really) Queen Elizabeth park. The berry all fruit smoothie (see photos) was refreshing coupled with a clean environment, good service and free wifi was most relaxing for us after exercise. Literally the worse food I have ever tasted. I ordered coffee and their soup of the day. First off the coffee was luke warm. Then I saw them scoop the soup into a take out bowl and popped it into the microwave. That only shows you how fresh that is. The worse part is when I opened the lid of my soup....it looked more like lumpy paste then soup. Never mind the fact it was warm in some spoonful and cold in others. Probably due to the fact they just nuked it. I took 3 bites of the soup and a couple sips of my coffee and threw it all away. Gross. Never going back again....ever! read more

This review might sound really mean- but the truth hurts sometimes. Countless times I have been burned by this place - in a figurative sense. I just bought a date square for $5 and it tasted like freezer burn. $5! Freezer burn!! All the food is subpar. They had once made me a grilled cheese sandwich with bread that was soggy from absorbing the condensation from the bag it was kept in. I ordered a spinach roll once and it was dried up and hard as rock. The workers can be very slow and sometimes I wonder if they are trained at the level of hygiene that should be kept as a food service worker. Why do I keep coming back?? Because sometimes as a mom I spend the morning rushing doing laundry, packing lunches, making breakfasts, and shuttling children to lessons at the community centre and sadly once I realise I need to eat something myself my only option is this unfortunate excuse of a place. I have been coming to Hillcrest community centre for ~1 month now, and today I had time to eat prior to working out. The food sold here are as simple are hot dogs and pizzas to shepherds pie. I tried the shepherds pie, and it was delicious! To make the experience even better, the ladies who work here are very kind and upbeat. I've been observing them as I chow down on my food, and they are down to earth and they socialize with the community, so I thought they deserved a positive review. I haven't tried any of their other food, but of course just like any other food stand in a community centre, I wouldn't expect too much from the pizza and hotdogs. lol. read more

I absolutely hate this place. Don't let it's incredibly convenient location fool you; the food is nothing short of mass produced drivel. Their hot chocolate and iced coffee is pretty decent, but I find the prices completely blown up and unreasonable. I mean upwards of five dollars for fresh orange juice, really!? Over six for a fruit cup?! Their pizzas, mac n cheese and other hot foods are clearly not made in house and their ice cream (aside from the soft serve) is the standard cheap grocery store crap. A quick walk to Main St. -less than a couple blocks away- will satisfy with a wide selection of MUCH better quality pizza, ice cream, coffee, ect, ect; and for cheaper. Necessary Evil! This place is a cash cow. They really scored with the COV in granting them the excellent location within Hillcrest community centre. It is definitely convenient and the coffee ain't too bad. Service is a hit and miss. If you get the really nice European girl, you're in luck. She's efficient, helpful and friendly. However, I find some other staff is quite rude, specifically the Filipino guy behind the counter who just doesn't seem to be ever happy and to be quite honest, a bit lazy. read more

Blue Parrot should change its name to Dark Vulture We ordered macaroni and cheese but it was an exercise in salt, cream, and sparsely placed hints of cheese. I was cheated from a bit of my smoothie (wasn't 16 Oz.) when I asked for the smoothie to be split in half for my kids..Then, and after we found a piece of plastic in the smoothie and complained about it and about being cheated from the 16Oz, the attendant told me that they did me a favor by splitting the smoothie in two for my kids...The reality is that customers are the ones who do the favor through their patronage, not the other way round!!! One other attendant offered me my money back. This is not about cash...This is about being respected as a customer. Shame on you!!!! Never again.... read more

Absolutely the rudest, most offensive service I have had in recent times. My daughter has swim lessons at HIllcrest every morning. Typically, we head for a smoothie afterwards. Both my husband and I, on different occasions, have been treated horribly. The other day I asked if the $6+ smoothie could be split into two cups. I was told rather officiously that it could be but the cups would be smaller (8oz). I was fine with that and paid. After quite a wait (the gal continued to serve others before beginning our smoothie), the smoothie was made but poured into one cup. I mentioned that it was to be in two, the gal making the shake obviously didn't believe me and had to confirm with the girl I ordered from. After splitting the smoothie in two, there was a quarter of the drink left in the big cup. I said I would appreciate the remaining drink as I had paid for it. The girl refused, said the two cups were all I was entitled to as the drink itself was technically only supposed to be 16oz in total. I explained that she was just about to give me the whole cup before I mentioned it was to be split in two and that it didn't make sense that she was now refusing the remaining drink. She then quite rudely told me that she was being "generous" and that she was not going to give me the remaining portion! Apparently their generosity is conditional and dependant on what you ask them to do! We had a somewhat lengthly discussion where she got somewhat loud in an effort to make it seem as though I was being unreasonable. I remained calm but amazed that this was even an issue. Wanting to get rid of me, she then rudely pushed the remaining smoothie my way, said to "take it". I was so offended that I left the drink there as it clearly was more important to her - perhaps she was thirsty herself! Either she was going to enjoy the remaining portion herself or throw it away...neither of which seems right to me. On a final note, the remaining drink is not of importance to me but the ridiculously nonsensical, rude and offensive customer service was enough to make me vow to NEVER patronize this chain again! My husband had a similar experience on another day. I had been in the customer service industry for many years (15 plus) prior to becoming a teacher and I can tell you that these ladies need a serious lesson in how to treat and moreover value their customers. Indeed, the convenience is great but at the end of the day, it is us locals who use the facility daily that will keep you afloat! I will gladly drive to whole foods any day and pay more to receive the amazing customer service. Every time we go there to get our smoothie we are treated with respect and often, the people there make extra for my toddler too who usually shares with me! Never have I been moved enough to write a review like this. What a shame. read more

Very nice café with excellent location within Hillcrest community centre. I usually go there after working out in the gym and love their selection of fresh foods and tasty healthy smoothies! Their coffee is also delicious and decently priced. The place is busy most of the time especially on the weekend but you can still get nice and friendly service. Definitely recommend it! read more

Convenient location since we're at the community center frequently but service isn't great. Tables are always dirty while staff chats. Don't get the carrot cake which at $4+ doors not have cream cheese icing. Most of the baking is overpriced and not satisfying. There's a 2 pack of M&M cookies that's reasonable and ok. read more

Just discovered a little gem in a community center. I wrote that about 2 years ago, and can say the quality and service are still excellent. great bevies and food, prices that are realistic for a family of 4. Try the Blue Parrot and I am positive you will return. read more
