Visiting the cape and needed a break from the lobster and chowder overload and craved really excellent sushi. So glad to find this place. It was beyond amazing and I lowkey wish I lived nearby just to have this restaurant in my back pocket. Started with the red curry mussels which were amazing. Then we had the surf n turf roll and roll513. I would travel for five hours again just to get that surf n turf roll again. Dan, our waiter, was the icing on the cake. My partner and I were in Falmouth for just one night and needed dinner. We walked up and down Main Street checking out the various restaurants. Bluefins looked quite appealing to us, the atmosphere appeared cozy, romantic and upscale, and it was pretty full. From the moment we walked through the front door, we were well taken care of. Oh and the food was excellent. The sushi bar looked delicious, and the variety of rolls super impressive. We were in the mood for hot food though, and ordered two Japanese entrees. The chicken teriyaki was delicious, but the sesame crusted seared tuna was extraordinary. From my perspective most of the other tables were couples on dates or a special night out. Loved it! Stumbled upon it in on a busy Friday fall night and got the last table for three. The food was very good. Had a specialty roll for an appetizer and the gnocchi. We're pretty disappointed. All of the rolls seemed to taste the same. The rice was unseasoned and overcooked and the maki was not rolled tight enough. They were falling apart. The quality of the seafood was definitely fresh, however, one would expect much better sushi at this price point. The spicy tuna and spicy salmon maki lacked any spice and the Angry Dragon was not worth the price. Nothing was bad, but nothing was good. It was mediocre. If you are a sashimi lover, I'm sure this place is for you. If you're a maki fan, we suggest that you look elsewhere. I now need to tend to my disappointed Hangry Girlfriend Dragon. read more

A couple of locals told me about this place. Said I should try. My first time last night. It was good. My appetizers were the best ("Noki" & the asparagus fries) the curry shrimp on skewers way toooo salty. Both my dinner partner and I had one and that was it. The waiter/bartender never asked us why we didn't finish most of the dish. I asked for Unagi Nigiri and got something totally different. When I looked at it and called the bartender over (since we sat at the bar) he said "what's up". Like really? Not a proper way to answer. They did correct it and was good. I got the bill, and wow. They up-charge you for a martini? And the glass wasn't even full. $14 base, then an additional $3 because it's a martini. $17 for an ok drink without blue cheese stuffed olives. Bottles of water arrived immediately and our waiter was very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Given how hard it is to get help in Falmouth, this was really appreciated how good he was. Appetizers were superb. Crispy Thai fried shrimp disappeared quickly, the 3 sushi rolls were excellent -- Bluefin, Tuna Crunch, and shrimp tempura. Even my kids that don't love sushi loved them. For dinner, the sashimi plate was superb and my wife had the pad thai which she loved although she wished she opted for a little more spice/heat. For starters, one might call noisy a vibrant atmosphere. I don't. The place needs noise abatement. The tables are very tightly grouped, so those at the next table will definitely overhear your conversation if it's not too noisy! Now to the meal. The beet salad was excellent. I should have stopped there. After I had eaten the appetizer, I waited at least 30 minutes - while I watched the restaurant guests leave - for seared scallops. After asking about my meal twice, the scallops arrived, nicely presented but not seared and VERY undercooked. They were fresh, so I wrote it off as warm sushi! However, the sauce they were in was completely tasteless and the accompanying potatoes and vegetable "compost" was not up to par. Bluefins in Falmouth has the freshest sushi I have ever had. My husband and I are big time sushi lovers and have tried so many other sushi places on cape but this one blows them all out of the water. Our favorite rolls are the Angry Dragon, Hawaiian, 513, Red Sox. Basically anything with fresh tuna, amazing (the pad thai with short rib is the best you will every have, get it spicy trust me). We are never disappointed and are always welcomed back each and every time by the staff. The staff is without a doubt the best in the whole country. Hands down. The nicest people you will ever meet. From Ron warmly greeting you as you walk in, to Dan making some of the best recommendations for the night, I mean you can't go wrong. First; the manager tried to rush a 92 year old WWII veteran with a large party out the door while still completing their meal and spending a great deal of money at their restaurant. Second; Called for a reservation for 2. Person on phone took my information then stated that the manager would call me back. I never received a call back and when I called again the next day, left a message and again received a call back. Bluefins was one of our favorite restaurants and I'd recommend it to everyone and anyone I met. Until last night. Yes, they were busy, but we didn't sit until 8:45 and order until a little after 9. The place was clearing out. My husband order the Wagyu Beef Patty and I order sushi. His dinner came out well (20 minutes or so) before mine and he complained. They don't co-ordinate the kitchens. I understand that. I ordered the spider roll and when I tasted the end piece, it tasted like shrimp, not soft shell crab. I spoke to the waiter and it was like a forensic scene on CSI. The owner ( I think) came over and pulled apart my sushi in his hand and said "this is crab!". He literally ripped my sushi apart! They comped our meal, but we insisted on paying. We were denied and told the owner didn't want us back. Wow! Probably a blessing in disguise as the last time we were there, about 3 weeks ago, I was sick in the stomach for 2 weeks! Definitely the sushi. Don't go there if you don't want to get sick and if you decide to risk it, definitely don't say anything negative or you'll be banned. Too bad for them. I have about 40 airbnb guests this summer and it was on my "must go" list. No more. They ban us. We ban them. read more

Ok, I'm upgrading my rating. Had a much better experience on my second visit. The cucumber martini was amazing, as were the scallion pancake and short ribs with black rice.
