The drinks here are VERY, VERY sweet--you will need to get at LEAST 50% sweet or even 25%. My friend ordered 75% sweetness level Hokkaido milk tea and she wanted to swap out--but the employees didn't want to :X Luckily the ice melted, but she really wasn't too happy with her drink as it was seriously too sweet. My friend got the lemon black tea, which was at 100% sweetness level and shoot-me-now teeth numbing sweet. I got no sugar in mine (thank god), which worked just fine. On the bright side, the boba wasn't mushy, but we couldn't tell if it had any sweetness in it as it was masked by the sugar from the original drink. Popcorn chicken is actually quite good, and they do give a good amount for $5. I'll try the squid, which I heard was good, as well as the tofu next time I'm here (my friend loves this place for the snacks). Drink-wise, I'll stick with my no-sugar. read more

Boba Ave has expanded to include a new Express location that features a drive-thru, which is a brilliant idea especially if you're short on time or don't want to get out of your car to order a drink. Boba Ave has two other locations, but this new Express location is down the street from CVS, next to Alexa's Flowers. While this new location centers around the drive-thru, you're still able to park to walk-in and order. There are several benches outside of the walk-in area where you can sit. From what I experienced my first time at Boba Ave Express, I thought there were some pros and cons to this new boba establishment. Cons: -Right when you pull in, the menu is mounted to the wall in front of the ordering window. If there are cars behind you and you're still figuring out what to order, you can feel rushed/block traffic. -The drive-thru concept is unique, but I can't imagine what would happen if there was a long wait and the traffic was backed up onto Baldwin. -The ordering window/pick-up area is really high, especially if you're in a smaller car. The table/platform that is mounted to the window is also really high and wide, so it was hard for me to hand over my money, get my change, and get my drink. I had to physically remove my seat belt in order to reach and get my drink. -The quality of the drinks do not match the price of the drinks. I think it's a little expensive for what I got. I ordered a regular sized boba milk tea, which was $3.59 including tax. I probably would have paid at most $2.50 for that boba. The taste was a little watered down. There wasn't much tea flavor. I feel like the Quickly's milk tea I had a few days ago was even tastier than this tea. -The lids are really flimsy. My tea spilled twice - once when I was reaching for the drink, and the second when I was driving home. -There are parking spots outside of the shop, but they seem to be always taken by the nice cars of the owners - not sure if this is to attract customers, but those spots could also be used for people who want to quickly pop in and out to order. -Not sure if they're in the soft opening phase, but they closed earlier than the hours stated when my friends came back. -And if you have friends in the car and you all want something different and everybody wants to pay separately ... I'm not sure how that will work and how quickly that can actually be executed. Pros: -The boba was chewy and had honey taste. -They offer a stamp card. -The concept of a drive-thru boba establishment is very unique. Overall, with all the boba shops that are located a few blocks of Boba Ave Express, I feel like they have to really pick up their game in terms of drink quality in order to compete. When I was ordering my drink, a car was behind me and I already felt really rushed, so while I like the concept of the drive-thru, I think the whole process has not yet been thought out. I usually like to peruse the menu before I order, and if you don't know what you want/not familiar with the menu, it can be hard to make your order when there's somebody behind you. read more

3.5 stars. It's not the best boba I've had, it's not the worst boba I've had, but it's the only boba I've ordered in a drive-through. Love the convenience! Not sure why there aren't more of these in the 626, since boba is so popular and parking is so scarce throughout the area. Took the family here after dinner at nearby Din Tai Fung and there were two cars in front of us. The drive-through looks like a converted garage (according to LA Weekly it was a dairy in its former life), so you order with a real person, not squawkbox, at one window then drive forward for your drinks at another window. The teas were good (passion fruit and jasmine green), but the boba was on the soft side. Service was okay. We didn't receive a stamp card, which would've been nice. They forgot to put boba in my wife's order and we had to wait for them to fix the problem, but they were kind enough to upsize her drink. Overall, a good experience that has room for improvement. The convenience is worth a stop, though, and I'll be back. Note to the owners: put a menu facing the street. It'll speed up the process. read more

I drove about one hour from Long Beach to this milk tea store just to taste the tea, but I'm so disappointed. 1. I ordered a Jasmine Green Tea with boba, and there was a ball of sticky cream power which was not been stirred well probably. This quality definitely not worth $6. 2. The attitude was HORRIBLE, a guy with black glasses placed my order and he showed me a really bad face from the beginning to the end, NO SMILE AND THANK YOU at all. 3. When I was trying to discuss the problem of drink, he didn't pay attention to me, and I don't think this service and quality worth $6. A boba drive thru?! Yes, please!!! :) After getting a manicure from My Nail Spa, I was hankering for a cold boba drink and I remembered seeing this place when I drove home from CVS a while ago. Located right across from Cocos Restaurant, I love the concept of a drive thru Boba place. There's was no one at the drive thru and so I had the menu to myself to decide. I ended up getting the Rose Milk Green Tea with Honey Boba - small size. (Starbucks Grande Size). Total was $4.46 ($3.59 with .50 cent boba). For extra $.50 cents more, you can also get a larger size. My boba drink was cooling and refreshing and not overly sweet. The rose milk green tea was fragrant and not watered down or sugar filled. Two stars off: the boba was soft and way too chewy. Got it stuck in the back of my teeth twice. Also, they need to filter the tea - ended up chewing some rose petals along with my bobas, ewww! The drive thru concept is great, but if you're stuck in front of an indecisive p person then yea, you're f**ked on being stuck there until they decide. They should at least put another menu near the front of the driveway like how Jack in the Box does it before pulling up. It'll help to make a quicker choice. Otherwise, I love the drive thru boba. Just get what you want, pay and go. Service is fast and friendly and you get a stamp card for each time you attend. read more

Drive thru boba place! I'll admit it wasn't my idea to come, but it's one of those things you want to do once just for the novelty of it. Boba Ave used to be a oil change place and they turned it into a drive thru beverage place. It's pretty hipster and industrial on the outside. We drove in and you could hear their techno music, but it was so loud they could barely hear us to answer questions and take our order. The placement of the menu was hard to read from the car and the windows for payment & pick up we're kind of high. Selection wise they had a decent amount of beverages including non-caffeinated varieties. I tried the orange flavored Yukult drink, which was pretty good. Size wise, the large cup is probably equivalent to the small at half & half, but definitely pricier.
