We hadn't been to Bob's since my son was a toddler, but we were in the area this afternoon and decided to stop in. The restaurant itself needs to be remodeled, it has a dirty look to it. However , the music playing really brought me back to my childhood in the 70's. Our waitress Letty was so welcoming and cheerful. She checked on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. She's a true gem! I ordered the blue cheese burger combo that comes with a generous side salad, and shoestring fries. The burger was thick, juicy, and cooked perfectly. I thought that Bob's Big Boy restaurants all closed...I was so happy to see that this location is still open and exactly how I remembered it when I was younger. From the Big Boy statue out front to the many timeless pieces of decor and memorabilia inside; I was brought back to a simpler time in America. The pictures say it all. You should come down, if not to eat, just to see the old menus, coin banks and comics that many of us grew up to... I opted for the Super Big Boy Combo...A staple when I was a kid. On a road trip and was in Northridge, CA. Me and my traveling companions all wanted to stop here. We were all familiar with a Bob's Big Boy. As a teenager, my hometown briefly had a BBB. BBB offers no frills diner fare, the kind that preceded 1970s fast food joints. First of all, there was the signature statue of the iconic namesake, Bob's Big Boy, right next to the front door. Awesome photo opportunity. The statue is super cute. Timeless and classic. Onto the food... I ordered the Famous Pappy's Fried Chicken plate. $17.99. It's my favorite thing on the menu. 4 pieces of fried chicken breaded in Pappy's secret seasonings. Mmmm, darn good fried chicken. The batter is not thick. It's thin with an almost air dried crunch. The chicken was moist. The plate comes with a side garden salad, potato option, and vegetable option. I chose fries and corn niblets. The fries were shoestring, they came out crisp n hot. The corn was awful though. It had a metallic taste. The salad was delicious, fresh tasting. I had their famous blue cheese dressing. You may have seen the dressing sold at your local grocer in the refrigerated dressing section. It has a mild taste. Famous Bob's Big Boy burger plate. $12.49. Before McDonalds had the Big Mac, BBB had this burger. Double decked two patties with a slice of cheese, lettuce, mayo, and Bob's special red relish se bed with fries... Fresh never frozen patties..By the way, you can purchase jars of that at the front counter. They put it fresh into nondescript glass jars. Famous Chili Spaghetti. $12.49. Chili topped on top of spaghetti noodles with chopped onions and shredded cheese. The plate comes with a garden side salad and garlic toast. Our server, Juan. was fabulous. Wow! This Bob's Big Boy location is terrible. It is nothing like the Toluca Lake Bob's. The Big Boy Combo was gross. The burger was tasteless, the salad was wilted , the blue cheese dressing was nasty and the French fries were not seasoned and definitely not like the fries at Toluca Lake. Not going to talk about the appetizer slop that burned hubby's mouth. Oh and the Cherry Pepsi was not made w/cherry syrup. It was poured out of a can-yuck! Just for nostalgia I was passing by Bob's Big boy in Northridge on Corbin Street. I parked my car and I see the sign straight on the window / door something like "restrooms for customers only" and "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" I reluctantly walked in kind of empty and was greeted politely, I looked at the menu, if I'm going to pay those high prices I'm not going to be treated rudely getting into the door with those warning signs. If you want my business you need to treat all your customers with respect, there are a lot of options for us to dine at outstanding restaurants at these prices. I had the weirdest experience at this place. I have always heard about Bob's Big Boy so I decided to go in and try it out. Upon walking in to the empty restaurant, there's a sign that says, "Please wait to be seated" in front of a podium. There was no one there. After about a minute or so of waiting, no one has come to seat me. I noticed an open menu taped to my right, with a cashier station; which was also unattended. I decided to take a look at the open menu. Shortly after, a waitress came and took my order. I was confused as to why she didn't just seat me first, but was fine because it's a burger joint. I just thought maybe they take your orders first then seat you. I proceeded to order and after paying, the waitress just left. I asked her, "Do I just seat myself?" In which she responded, "Did you want to eat here?" I told her I did. She looked very confused and that's whey I realized that station was for to-go orders only. I told her I still want to eat there, even though I've already paid. She still didn't want to seat me. That's when I told her, I'll just find myself a seat. She said, "Okay" and weirdly walked away. When the food came out, it came in a bag, tied up to go. However, my drink never came. I asked the waitress if my drink was still coming up and she gave me another weird look again. That's when I reached into my pocket to get the receipt and she responded, "What drink did you order?" This weird experience might have been fine had the food actually been good. I don't really understand what the craze is about this place. The food is mediocre at best. You can go to any fast food place and get the same quality of food, if not better. The fries were stale. It felt like old fries that had been microwaved. Once it cooled down a little, it was super spongy. The only thing good about the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger that I ordered is the bacon. There was no other flavor, even the BBQ didn't have any memorable tastes. It just tasted like any generic BBQ sauce you can get from the grocery store. I did like that it came with a salad, which was actually not bad. I don't know if it's just this location or all Bob's Big Boy are like this. If they are then I wouldn't recommend it. This was the absolute worst service of a non busy restaurant. We got sat at 5:59pm; we were left with one menu because the gentleman at the front said he didn't have anymore but would bring another once he got more (we never got an additional menu) mind you it was myself, husband and our 1 year old. By 6:15pm, no one had acknowledged us; finally at 6:26pm someone from the back took our order did not give a name did not clarify or go over the order just said "okay" and walked to the next table. Someone came in for their shift came by our table and asked us for our order; which really set me off because that was 6:40pm! 6:48pm our food and drinks finally arrived. I can't imagine why folks choose to visit McDonalds, paying $18 for a burger, fries and a drink. My wife and I visited Bob's Big Boy 3 days ago and had a delicious specialty burger, a huge amount of fries and a decisions chilled dinner salad for $16 each. The fries were much better than McDonald's and the real beef patty was huge and cooked to perfection. Great ambience and the music was 60s to 80s, and not too loud. Service was perfect. This is an interesting restaurant. The food is Excellent for the most part, but the ambiance is not very nice. When we were there, there was some trash on the floor. The table we were seated at has crumbs on the table. The drinks were served in paper cups because there were no plastic cups left. The ketchup on the table was a brand of ketchup I've not heard of, it was the worst ketchup I've had. Also it was Very warm in the Restaruant. But the food did taste great! 5 of us went to eat here and we spent a lot of money with meals and desserts. When our order came one meal was missing. The waiter said that he forgot to put it in. We had to share our food with the birthday child while waiting for the missing order. This was to celebrate a birthday but this child didn't even get their meal until everyone else was finished. I tried talking to the manager asking for a refund for the $8 kids meal but she was adamant that we had finally gotten the missing meal and would not give a refund. We just boxed it up since everyone had shared our food with her and she didn't want it anymore. Customer service is horrible. We just wanted a refund for the missing kids meal but the manager wouldn't give it to us. I called the corporate number several times and left messages but never received a call back. Had a nice meal here, then got an alert from my credit card that I'd left an unusually large tip. I'd intended to leave a little more than 20%, but the server charged my card for double the tip amount I'd actually written on the receipt. My bf and I have been planning to eat here for a while now. He's been to another location before and I haven't had it at all so we finally made the decision to have it for dinner last night. We pulled up and there is some weird sewage in the parking lot that really made it smell outside as soon as you got out of the car. We walked in and there were maybe like 2 customers dining in but boy was it gross inside!! My friend warned me to not dine in because it's grimy and very outdated and she wasn't wrong! The booths look like they have never been changed as if they were still the original. The worst part was this is in the middle of summer. It is extremely hot out and you walk into what felt like the same exact temperature outside but stuffier because there's no air flow. We didn't plan on dining in anyway. The lady worker came over to hand us menus but we told her we'd be ordering to go. She walks over to the counter to take our order and was very helpful with telling us the milkshake flavors since we wanted to grab one to share. We both ordered the all American burger combo with fries and an Oreo milk shake to share. Medium rare! She took our order no problem and we walked out immediately to grab fresh air. It was super gross inside and I felt really bad for the workers. It was to the point where I was getting a headache almost immediately from standing in there for a few minutes! We stood outside for about 15 minutes till she came out and handed us our order. We didn't even have to go back in because she probably knew how awful it was in there. Maybe the AC was broken?? I hope they fix that soon! We got home to enjoy our absolutely delicious burgers and fries. It's been a minute since I had a gigantic burger but also a very flavorful patty. I was a little bummed when my bf said there were no sauces on the burger at all and it was just as is. But I decided to try a bite without any condiments and to my surprise, (I usually like all my food super saucy) this burger did not need any additions. There was so much flavor in every single bite. Super, super delicious and the meat was cooked just the way we liked! Their Oreo milkshake is also really good. Not super sweet at all! First off, I'm from where Big Boy originated. I am aware this is not directly from the OG place, so I wasn't expecting it to be like back home. But when you walk-in you can noticeably see this is an old establishment. Felt like I was stuck in a time loop during the 80s - 90s. Would compare it to a VFW hall especially with the older music that plays. Secondly, our food overall was mediocre. We ordered the mozzarella sticks, which were not cooked enough. Cheese was a big ol' block in the middle. I had the Philly Tri-tip with fries. One half of my sandwich was just utterly soggy and I could not eat the bread, buuuut I also had a hard time eating the beef and cheese because it was once again, not cooked enough. Kinda felt like I was eating rubber. My buddy got a classic bacon cheeseburger that he describes as just being an alright burger. Nothing special, and he felt there was way too much bun to burger ratio. We also had to return one of our waters as it had something on the bottom of it. No clue what it was, but we didn't want to find out. Their only saving grace of the meal is that the fries were amazing. They cooked them very well and it filled us up nicely since they gave us a lot. This is the reason I'm giving 2 stars. This was rather disappointing though knowing we spent $54 between the two of us for less than stellar meals. I grew up going to Bob's Big Boy and fondly remembered their chili spaghetti. Finally got a chance to do a takeout order and had to get the chili spaghetti for old times sake. It was as good as I remembered and comes with a thick slice of cheese toast and optional chopped onions on top. We also tried the country fried steak and it's excellent, with thick gravy, eggs, potatoes (we chose hash browns) and a side of bread (the biscuit was dry and hard but the toast was palatable). Our kids love the pancakes here. We usually get the short stack with sausage. One thing I wouldn't recommend is their fresh strawberry pie. It may have been an off day but it just didn't taste fresh and the crust was not up to par. We definitely want to go back during lunch or dinner to try the burgers.
