Had a great lunch here recently! I've been to several Bonchons before, but this was my first time at this particular location (I had no phone service and was unable to check-in). I ordered the soy garlic drumsticks, and split some pork belly baos and bulgogi fries with my friend. The drumsticks are super flavorful, and have a great texture and glaze to them. The baos and fries were great as well, but the chicken was definitely my favorite part of the meal! The service was excellent, and I loved that they were playing a lot of my favorite k-pop groups on the TV, lol! I definitely recommend paying this location a visit! read more

This location needs a lot of work, in terms of speed of service. Take out however is ready by the time you arrive. I wish their wings have less sauce (yes some customers love the saucy type). I just wish there can be slightly less, then they can be crispier. Somehow we always like the location in San Mateo, the one in Pleasanton is a hit and miss. Parking can be a struggle on the weekends, as Pacific Pearl parking lot gets crazy. So coming late at night on weekdays maybe a great choice, especially to pick up a pre-order take out. For Korean Wings, I really like Pollo Pollo in Pleasant Hill: next time I am around that area, I must check if they survive after the pandemic. read more

First time in this location. Haven't been in this side of NorCal for years now. Came in on a Saturday at 2 PM. Parking was a challenge in this Pacific Pearl strip mall. Got sat at the last two seat table that was available. Slippery floors... That's the first impression I got from this resto. I thought it was just me but I saw other patrons treading the floor with unease. I got the Sapporo beer to start this lunch. It came fast with a frosted glass and the lady actually left the bottle opener in our table. Next came our vegetable laden Bibimbap with Fried Tofu which was really flavorful and enhanced by the Gochujang sauce on the side. Got another serving of Gochujang as it was that good. Lastly came the KFC specialty that Bonchon is known for. We opted for the 6 Wings and 3 Drums combo (Soy Garlic with the least heat) and a side of coleslaw. Now, this was another revelation for us as we never expected it to be that good. Crunchy, plump, juicy and finger licking messy. It was indeed a two napkin meal. The three ladies we saw manning the counter switched roles in bussing and serving. They were all helpful and fast. A great spot for a quick lunch when in the area. The menu has KFC and also Korean dishes. We ordered the following: KFC 5 stars 4 drumsticks and 4 wings two flavors $17 spicy and soy garlic, double fried excellent flavor and crust. Seasoned fries 5 stars piping hot basket of herb & Parmesan seasoned fries. japchae 3 stars a bit dark and salty not bad Kimchi bacon fried rice 5 stars was very good. Experience: the restaurant was 80% full for dine in. Booths and chairs are "hard" wood benches. Just so happened a table in the center of the restaurant let their young children run around the entire restaurant. When we arrived the servers didn't greet. After getting seated I had to stand up and wave the menu to get some one to acknowledge and take our order. Minus star. Plenty of parking in the large shopping center. $64 before tip. Food was good. The CRUNCH is REAL! The sides with the wings were not my to my liking, I asked for steamed rice with 10 wing pieces (not whole wings) that was 20 bucks. Very good flavor, I ate 5 wings on the spot and reheated the other 5, the next day in my air fryer and they were still very good! I will post menu picture too. The inside area for dining is spacious, the crew not very engaging or attentive but at least they didn't shorten my name! Just paid $13.99 for three bao buns with fried chicken. Each bun only had a small bite of chicken, the size of a nugget. There was no spicy mayo, the amount of coleslaw was minimal, and the meat portion shown as filling the bun was misrepresented on the website menu photo. We ordered to-go, so I was disappointed when we got home to eat. Looking at online images and social media, the filling amounts vary by location, but the product I received appears most minimal compared to other examples. The small nuggets of meat were very dry and chewy. I'd not recommend ordering this item from the Pleasanton location specifically. Just ordered delivery directly from their website. FYI - there's a $5 delivery charge but just ends up going to DoorDash anyway, so if you have DoorDash, might as well just use that. Not sure why they just don't say that or direct link to DoorDash. I got the seasoned fried zucchini. I wouldn't order this again just because like half of them or more were sliced too thin so it seemed like too much breading on those. Unsure why they can't uniformly cut em a quarter inch especially since it's clear they use a mandellin. But they were cooked well and the dipping sauces are good. I also ordered the drumstick meal that came with 2 drums, 2 potstickers, and donut with dip. Only comment is the drums were not the crispiness of kfc this place is known for. Not sure of that crispness of more so present for wings only. Flavors were good tho. IMO soy garlic is the only flavor worth ordering. I've tried Bonchon at different locations and this location is by far my favorite. It never disappoints either to dine in or to go. It is located at an outdoor mall and parking is not a problem. The location is clean and the staff is friendly. I give them a 5/5 for the quality of the food. It is always fresh and hot! The chicken is just perfection. Flavor is on point and it is very crunchy without leaving an oily after taste. It is amazing! We always get the spicy chicken combo. The Tteokbokki is also a must get when I come here. It is sweet and spicy. Very well balanced. The seasoned fries are good! My only wish would be if they could give rice for ordering chicken or at least a couple cups. We had the Soy Garlic and Spicy Fried chicken and it was *chef's kiss.* The Soy Garlic flavor is my go-to, but we got spicy as well this time. The only time we had the spicy flavor was back when this restaurant first opened, and it was a little too spicy for my palette. A few years later, and I'm now able to eat it without a problem. The flavor tastes very similar to the Korean bbulddak spicy noodles. We always dine in during non-busy times, and always had good customer service here. Terrible Service. Awful business operations. Bland Food. All around disappointing and frustrating. My family of 5 dined in on Saturday afternoon and we ordered a variety of foods. The fried rice was bland, it desperately needed salt. The shu mai was gross. The texture was slimy and nothing like the shu mai you get from dim sum. The popcorn shrimp was pathetic. Literally just fried batter. The tacos were surpassingly good but the meat was really dry and also bland. I didn't think you could mess up on fries, but you sure can if you don't add salt! It's as if they were just completely out of salt or something. To add to the mediocre food, the service was AWFUL. The guy that took our order wasn't very friendly and when I asked for straws he picked them up from behind the counter with his glove covered hand...then dropped it onto the table...the DIRTY table. When I picked up the straws there were sauces and what not on them - probably from his gloves and the table. When the food was delivered, the woman was so frantic. She basically threw it on the table and knocked my mom's drink over. They were getting busy and the workers were running around with their heads cut off. Everyone was so frantic and it was giving me anxiety to watch! To worsen the experience, they charged us 18% gratuity without any prior knowledge! My party was of 5 and they automatically charged us gratuity! Ridiculous. Especially since the service was poor. I am not sure if it is because we were in the bay area and this is standard or if the restaurant itself chose to charge gratuity. We just thought it was insane considering we were a group of 5...typically gratuity is added for parties of 7 or more and they tell you that prior to your dine in experience! DOUBLE-FRIED I never knew the concept of double-fried before 2006. The first time I had double-fried food was when I was staying in Amsterdam during the 2006 World Cup. I bought a small order of double-fried fries from a stand in Amsterdam. I was wondering how the inside doesn't become overcooked. I was amazed the fries remained crispy yet the inside still moist. They were one of the crispiest fries I ever had. When I came back from Europe I began to understand the concept of double-fried. That concept works with a starchy ingredient like potatoes. Does that work well with chicken? About a month and half ago I visited this Bonchon location. I never knew that Bonchon double-fried their chicken. I ordered the small combo, which consisted of 3 drumsticks and 6 wings. I also ordered items like shrimp shumai, pork buns, rice, and coleslaw. Mostly I came here for the chicken. What's the verdict? The wings though crispy were a little too dry for me. However I loved the drumsticks as they were moist. About two weeks later I came to Bouchon again. This I ordered the boneless wings. As with the bone-in wings these boneless wings were crispy but the meat was a little dry. Overall the double-fried concept of fried chicken works with bigger cuts like drumsticks than wings. read more

There was supposed to be a complimentary side dish that I chose (pickled radish) ordering online, but it was not in the takeout bag. I didn't realize it until I was home. My order was wrong. My family meal was supposed to be boneless wings so I can't comprehend why it had chicken legs with bone it it. The chicken tenders I ordered were also... nuggets? I don't even know if those were tenders but if in the off chance that they were, that is extremely sad. Just sad. I also ordered cole slaw but considering the rest of my order was either wrong or done badly, it didn't come as a surprise that it was completely forgotten and not included with my food. I thought that I could get over this and still enjoy what I did get with my family regardless. I was wrong. The food was so bad that I feel like I'd still have negative feelings about Bonchon even if my order was done right. Chicken was dry, tough, and overly chewy. I was told that Bonchon specializes in Korean fried chicken and I really hope that's false because this meal was a disgrace to Koreans. I've had far better chicken from the Costco frozen section. This was such a pleasant meal that was unanticipated as we have never had Korean fried chicken. This location still has not opened up for dining in, so we set up our camping chairs and table right outside in the parking lot. Service was friendly upon taking our order, however, unless you place your order in advance online, be prepared to wait a good 30 minutes before your meal is ready even at the start of the peak dinner time. We ordered the small 9 piece combo drumstick and chicken wing box, 3 piece pork belly bun, and 3 piece bulgogi sliders. The chicken was a hit for everyone, where the meat was so tender and the batter was lightly fried despite it being double fried and coated with just the right amount of our choice of soy garlic sauce. We did get the spicy mayo sauce on the side and it was perfect for anyone who wanted a light dipping of the chicken. The sliders were standard and nothing impressive. the pork buns were disappointing as they are served cold, but perhaps that is how they are meant to be. We appreciated that the staff supplied us with plates, napkins and plastic utensils. We love this place. The food is tremendously tasty and consistent. I can't tell you how many places aren't consistent with their products. We've only tried the chicken and fries because they never disappoint and we hope to try out a variety of items soon. I'm not reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the service is a little slow however, with that said, the owner (I'm assuming she's the owner) is SOOOO friendly and attentive. She's constantly walking around cleaning and asking if you need anything. Also the floor was SUPER slippery when we went. Think skating with your shoes.
