Unexpected Gem! I finished up with work, but one of my kiddos was at an away game so I had a hour to wait. Since I hadn't eaten dinner, I pulled into a strip mall place to grab something. Another sub place caught my eye. As I was walking up, I smelled some amazing smells, so I walked down the sidewalk and found Boun Bistro. What I noticed right away was the place was clean! Then I was greeted very warmly. I waited for a time and then reviewed the memo, which has a lot of Asian dishes to choose from. I made my choice and in a short time my order was brought to my table. The food was hot and absolutely delicious! They have many choices from meat based, to plant based choices and a mix / combo, if you desire. Wow wow wow! This place is definitely a must try! We were staying in a hotel near by and picked it because of the convenient location but I didn't expect the food to be that delicious and tasty! The drinks were so so good! We got a butterfly pea lemonade and a lychee mint drink (there was fresh lychee in it! Yum!!!) We got a house soup , fresh spring rolls and basil beef fried rice. This place is SO underrated. Hands down the BEST Thai food I have ever had. Everything on their menu is SO flavorful and fresh! It was all filling yet still light - I didn't feel weighed down after eating my meal. I ordered the vegetable fried rice and I'm not sure what they used to season it, but it tasted like no other fried rice that I've ever had. The vegetables were fresh and crisp. It also came with a spring roll that was super yummy! I would also recommend the beef jerky, pot stickers and drunken noodles. I waited to post a review, and I feel it's necessary as this is the 4th time this has happened with our order. Both in restaurant and delivery. We kept ordering and going back because their food has good flavors. Restaurant is not willing to follow their own allergen offerings listed on their menu. It's also on Yelp they offer vegan and are allergy friendly. Tonight we ordered, as we usually do. And we used to be regulars. (Once a week, sometimes twice a week customers) and we took a long break due to the frustration above. But their food has great flavor, so I tried it again. Well tonight...bam...I got a big ole helping meat in my allergen friendly yellow curry. And this is the 4th time it's happened. Super disappointed because their yellow curry has great flavor and they have all the allergen options on their online ordering system. This was definitely the last time we will give this place a try. We just can't do it. Each time we have called to the restaurant when ordering delivery (when it's happened) we haven't gotten our money back and the food has gone down the drain. Tonight I specifically requested a refund and was told I needed to call the delivery service and the girl answering the phone knew nothing about it. With so many options, especially for vegans and those with strict allergies...I suggest those steering VERY far from this place. We came here after we met the owner Jonny at a event he catered. The food was delicious so we decided to try his restaurant Boun Bistro. It is a delicious mix of Thai and Laotian. Everything was tasty but this is one spiciest Thai restaurant that I have been to (Loatian tends to be spicier than Thai). The Vegetable Spring Rolls (fried) were crispy. The Shrimp Lemongrass Soup had just the right amount tanginess and spice. The Chicken Coconut Soup had a great combination of spice and sweetness. For our main course, we had Green Curry with Chicken, Panang with Tofu (Vegetation Option), and Pad Thai with Chicken. All very tasty. We drove all the way from Irving to Haltom City to try this food. Just be wary of getting a "10" on the spicy scale even if you think you can handle spicy food. Go easy at this place. Interesting! Glenda got the usual, chicken Pad Thai, 1 star. Her diet has become so dreary. I, on the other hand, got the Lad Na combo, 3 star spicy. Pork, beef, shrimp, calamari, imitation crab, and a brown sauce mixed in with flat noodles, broccoli, egg, Chinese broccoli and yellow bean. Delicious! I will definitely try this again. Glenda's Pad Thai had a distinctly different taste from the Pad Thai we are used to. Much sweeter. She loved it. I thought it was ok. Boun also serves Laotian food, which I will gladly try. When you walk in, be aware that you must seat yourself. If you truly want to try authentic Lao food, I highly recommend ordering the Pa Khao ($25 and serves 2). "Pa Khao" is the name of the little bamboo table. As a kid, my family would sit on the floor and gather around a bamboo table and enjoy the different Laotian dishes. The dishes that come with this special are "Mok Pa" (steamed fish wrapped in a banana leaf), "Gang Namai" (bamboo stew), Lao Sausage, Lao Beef Jerky, Jeow (dipping sauce), Sticky Rice, and Steamed Vegetables. They have different dishes that you can substitute in if you want. We also ordered a bowl of Khao Piak Sen (Lao Chicken Noodle Soup). The Pa Khao brought back so many memories of my childhood. These are the authentic Lao dishes I didn't appreciate as much as a kid. The flavors are very refreshing and bold. Dive right in with your hands and don't be shy. The sticky rice pairs well with every dish and it's just fun to eat. Boun Bistro also offers some Thai dishes that cater to the American audience. The Pad Thai here is solid and the portion is huge! My cousin's relative recommended this restaurant for good Thai food and it was definitely delicious!! I went with my cousin and her friend, and all of us shared a papaya salad, laos sausage, tom yum soup, chicken fried rice & drunken noodles. Out of all these dishes, the laos sausage was the star for sure! I myself am not a huge fan of Thai cuisine or sausage but this one blew me away, The flavor was amazing, it was slightly sour from the lime and fragrant from the lemongrass, and the outside was crisp right when you bit into it but chewy on the inside. Sooo addictive and pairs extremely well with even just plain rice. Must have appetizer. The papaya salad was pretty good, I'm just not big on papaya salad in general but it was flavorful and a perfect blend between sweet and savory. The crunchiness of the cabbage and papaya was refreshing. The tom yum soup was a great way to warm up on this cold rainy night. It was slightly sour and sweet, and so rich in flavor with a ton of plump shrimps. Delicious. Chicken fried rice smelled, looked, and tasted amazing. It was hot and fresh and perfectly done. Definitely a good comfort dish if you're not looking to go too far out of your comfort zone - anybody is bound to love the fried rice. Only thing that wasn't ideal was the seafood drunken noodles, which I'm kind of disappointed about since drunken noodles are one of my favorite go to Thai dishes in the rare case that I go to a good Thai place. It had too much extra sauce and was overseasoned too salty for my taste, and it could've used more seafood and vegetables. However, the other amazing dishes I would say overcompensated for the noodles! 4.5 stars because of the noodles but rounded up to 5. Would highly, highly recommend this Thai/Laos restaurant. Great food, bad service! This is one of our favorite restaurants that we go to very often. We usually get good service but it's been going downhill. Today, Cella served us and it ruined our experience there. She was very rude to us from the start. It took almost 20 minutes for her just to get our waters. It would be understandable if it was busy but there was only one other table there. I ended up ordering the lychee mint drink & it was very bitter. It didn't taste like last time at all and it the "lychee" tasted like straight up pulp. I politely asked if I could exchange it for something else and she said she'd have to charge us for both drinks. Saying she can show me the lychee, proceeded to hand me a boba straw so I can taste the lychee better? It was petty. I went home and drained it out, it was mushy and disgusting. Seems to be old. We would have appreciated it if she was nice about it but she was very rude and hostile towards us the entire visit. My sister is a server so we still tipped her decent despite the very mediocre service. Food is great, just beware of the service. Our food was delissssh though especially the fried fish. read more

I agree with Dianna N, this place is definately worth five stars or more! Food is absolutely awesome. It's a mix of both Thai and Laos flavors. Should you feel adventurous, and want to try something above and beyond the usual Thai restaurants then come here. It's a nice mom and pop place. They are able to accommodate large groups if you come with family. Service was nice and fairly quickly. My only complaint is the loudness from the waitresses. Just because your family owns it doesn't mean you don't have to act professionally. Loud talking and laughing is very disturbing to me and the other customers. I will probably continue ordering to-go and taking it home to avoid the unpleasant loud talking. Do order the basil fried rice, it was very different and full of fresh flavors. I kid you not when I say I've had literally everything on the menu here. I'm from around here, but I moved to Houston last year for school. The more I eat at other Thai/lao places, the more I miss here. They have never messed up on any of my orders including togo and delivery, and I always get my food fast. The place advertises that they don't add MSG which I think says a lot about their respect for cooking and for food. If places add MSG, they might as well just say "we can't actually cook well". That being said, the food here has that excellent balance of flavor that Thai/Lao food is known and loved for. I've been to Thailand twice on church trips and visited the rural mountain villages there, and can honestly say that this place reminds me the most of the village food. The chicken wings taste identical, and the house soup is just like a soup I had in the village. This place gets the "authentic" check :P My favorite salad here is the "nam kow tod". Its a DELICIOUS toasted rice that is adorned in flavors of coconut, pork, and spices. It sounds weird, but its so good. If you're not sure how to eat it, ask the server to show you. I've asked many times :P The best soup is the Laotian chicken noodle soup AKA Khao Piak Sen. It has a bold, yet sophisticated chicken broth, and is make with hand-made rice noodles (which resemble udon noodles). Every time I was sick, I would order this and it would heal me up. The best noodle dish is a tie between the Lad Na and Pad See Ew. The best rice dish is the yellow fried rice. Its cooked with yellow curry powder and is super yummy; especially after you squeeze the lime on top. The service/management is really good too, not the typical "Wtf you want? Here, bye. Okay pay up front." The servers always check on my food, refill my drink, and can answer questions. Since I ate here so often, the servers all knew me I miss this place so much.
