This is some authentic Thai/Lao cuisine. One of my favorite spots, and the construction being done on 820 makes it better. We came for lunch and ordered the red curry and the yellow curry. My yellow curry contained onions, carrots, potatoes and beef, liked it a lot bc it wasn't filled with so much vegetables like you find at some other places. The red curry was simple as well, but had egg plant which was delicious. Both were really good and had the right amount of spice. The lunches also came with some clear soup or spring roll. We chose the soup. The clear soup was really good on a cold rainy day very light and flavorful. We had also order the crab Rangoon as an appetizer. These were good because they were not really crispy but more crunchy, didn't taste like the wonton wrapper was soaked with oil, which was a good thing. The only bad thing I can say about Muong Lao is I wished they had more desserts. Overall I really enjoyed it and think they have some of the best curries around. read more

Sticky rice was great but I didn't care for the jerky. This is obviously subjective as lots of people leaving reviews loved it. I ordered online and walked over from my hotel and my food was ready at the correct time. It did take a while for anyone to notice I was there as the one lady working the register seemed to be in the bathroom and I don't know if anyone else was there. After waiting 3-4 minutes she appeared and gave me my food. No issues and worth trying if you are at a neighboring hotel. read more

I wish I could base my review on service alone, which would be a 5 star place. They don't have half their menu available and the best stuff you can't get, forcing you to order something else. I'm not going to come here looking for Tom Kha and Brisket Pho only to hear they don't have Tom Kha nor Brisket Pho in stock. Oh they also didn't have any pork rolls. It's Tuesday afternoon! I hate to say this, but I don't love this place like I did when it was Muang Lao Cuisine. I used to go here all the time with my family. Now, it's a once in awhile trip. We go elsewhere. The papaya salad sauce is too tangy/vinegar-like and tastes generic. The meat put in their Kao poon nam sen, is a thick and square shaped slices of brisket. Before, they were very tender and nice chunks of meat that didn't have a uniformed shape. Kind of like, meat pieces that fell apart from being so tender. I'm not feeling the square cut meat they use now. The beef jerky changed too. Before, the pieces were thinner and more jerky like. Now, they're thicker and softer, not what I'm used to eating as Lao beef jerky. There's also a slight change in the way the Lao sausage is cooked too or maybe the recipe. Overall, I would still eat there out of being a loyal and long time customer. We've been eating there since it was Thaya Cafe, years ago. It has been thru a few owners, but the food has been consistent. But this year and late last year, I haven't really enjoyed the slight changes. Just my two cents. read more

It's a little higher priced for a single daily lunch, however the portions are really for two meals so I'd say that makes it quite fair and I am always glad to have it on hand for lunch the next day. Wow, what a great place. I tried Boun for the first time today on a whim. I got the a fried rice dish with veggies and chicken, and a taro smoothie. First, i walked to the back of the restaurant to pick up, and the wait staff already had my food ready, bagged, but waited till i was there to get my smoothie ready :) No watery drink! The food was amazing, i got medium heat on my meal and it was PERFECT for me, the drink was absolutely delicious and i'm so impressed i just might go tomorrow too. Idk if they changed owners or cook, but they changed their name. The food is not as good as before, flavoring went downhill. Fried chicken still taste the same but the pad Thai is now very grainy and lacks the tamarind taste, it's almost like it was stired fried with ketchup. The papaya salad is horrible. The dressing is not the same at all. The shrimp/crab taste is gone, the fish smell is gone too. It ended up tasting like someone poured red vinegar with soy sauce and squeezed a bunch of lemons in it. Cannot taste the papaya. This Thai Restaurant is better than others in the area. The food is more flavorful and the dining area is comfortable. I like that that have the condiments and chop sticks out on the table. Means they are not stingy. The first time I was here it was good but did not leave an impression. However, after eating in a few other Thai restaurants, I was more impressed with this place. The only thing is, they are in the middle of changing their name from Muang Lao Cuisine to Boun Lao Thai Bistro. They advertise that the same great food will not change, but it does make one wonder??? The service is okay, each person with their own personalities. When one server asked what I wanted to drink, I stated I would have a water until my friend joined me, meaning I would order another beverage later. The server brought two waters and left the menus and beverage lists with me at the table. A few moments later the other serve come and takes the beverage menu off the table that was in front of me being read. I chuckled to myself and thought they really must be short on beverage menus and she was preparing for a mad rush of customers. I was excited to see a Laotian restaurant near my hotel and had to try it. I am all about trying new cuisines and having as authentic experience as I can. You order at the kitchen and then they bring the food out to you. When I was at the counter to order, I asked for what they would recommend as a Laotian dinner. They recommended the papaya salad, beef jerky, and a side of sticky rice. I was not disappointed. The beef jerky shown as the meal's shining star. It is small strips fully cooked and wonderfully seasoned but not dry and tough like what Americans think of jerky. The papaya salad was on par with its Thai cousin with flavor and spice. My favorite part was eating the sticky rice with my hands. You roll some in a ball and dip it in the juices from the jerky or salad and then eat. I was excited to see a Lao place! The only other Asians I had to consort with growing up were from Little Laos on the Saginaw/Fort Worth border. Nice to see them finally represented! One of my lovely Laotian friends treated me to dinner here. Muang Lao has a pretty extensive menu. They have Laotian, Thai, and the standard Chinese options (orange chicken, etc). I asked my friend what was authentic and she recommended the Larb chicken. She also warned me about the spiciness (they do the 1-5 scale here). I chose three and she was quick to reprimand me. I waved her off, the ignorant fool that I am. Three stars was a little much. "Little" as in fired up my IBS for the next four days---and I didn't even eat that much of it. It was a tad too authentic for me. "Whatcha mean, "'too authentic?" you ask? The flavor was awesome (despite the searing pain from my insides), but noticed that the meat had more than... meat. I surmised that they must have chopped up some organs and added them to the chicken. I mentioned this to my friend who said "Yeah, those are probably hearts and liver." Huh. Well, I wanted something authentic and got it. When I didn't notice the addition, I didn't have a problem with either the food or the taste. I'll even eat organ meats when I am served them at someone's house, but I'd prefer to not have them in my restaurant food (yes, I know, my American is showing). I brought my husband home a Pad Thai on a "two" spiciness rating and he loved it (he's the type that usually gets atomic hot wings and other diarrhea-inducing spice levels). There wasn't any mystery meat in his dish, so it's not like they just sprinkle chicken hearts into everything. Muang Lao also had a number of deserts and smoothies (Thai tea!) that I really want to try, so this place isn't off my radar juuust yet. I just consider myself warned this time :) read more

We're still going since we discovered it, and the food is still amazing. When we go out or we're entertaining friends or family, this is our go-to place. I have a hard time choosing because everything is so good. My favorites are massaman & all of the curry dishes, pad see ew, basil fried rice, basil chicken, pineapple fried rice, & pad woon sen. Our favorite apps are Thai papaya salad, seafood salad, & fresh spring rolls. We're never disappointed in the food. We had a large party (about 9) so I won't nitpick every little detail. To start personally I thought the food was delicious. Papaya salad, beef jerky, tiger cry, Lao sausage, fried chicken and sticky rice. Everything I grew up eating and definitely came real close to mother's cooking. We also had the seafood Lad Na, drunken noodles, Tom Kha soup, seafood pho and those dishes were all excellent as well. Best part of our meals were that we get complimentary small broth (soup) to start our meals. The bad, ok service was a little slow, and the food took a while to get but I guess I can understand because we had a large group. One of our diner's dish came out cold because I guess it was sitting a while waiting for the other items to cook. The waitress forgot a couple of things I requested but I guess she was busy. Last week the noodles were stuck together and something was different. Lately the food seems like it's not fresh anymore. That was the one thing I loved. What happened? What changed? I ordered a week later because I was craving their fried egg rolls and it was not fresh or crunchy it was like it had been warmed up in a microwave very chewy. And the pineapple rice I ordered looked like it had a whole lot of soy sauce on it . Very brown and dark. That was not the same pineapple fried rice I ordered in the past. Hardly any cashews. Something was very different even in the taste. Maybe they don't have the same cook I don't know but the food is not the same. The lady at the counter was very friendly and had the food ready very quick but it's not the same . Maybe the cook is on vacation. This place is a much improved place than the previous owners. It has definitely stepped up their game. New menus although some foods have changed and sounds good. Inside has not changed much from before. Fried chicken was nicely sized and cooked throughly. Not much to say about fried chicken wings and sticky rice. My girlfriend got the combination lard na and that has really improved. I wouldn't mind coming back again. The papaya salad wasn't spicy for it being "medium". Too much lime but it was ok. The coconut drink was also ok. Didn't really taste like it was out the can so that was nice. Overall experience of this place under new management is great. This place is amazing! I never even knew it was here until I was searching for Thai food on Yelp, but it got such great reviews that we tried it. I had the Thai Basil Chicken, and my husband had the yellow curry chicken - mine was good, but his was even better, and the portions were huge (for both). We also shared the Lao sausage (awesome!!! so different) and a Thai iced tea with boba (best I've had). Definitely recommend this place! I've passed this place so many times driving around the area, and now I'm a little disappointed that we hadn't visited sooner! The food is so fresh! We had drunken noodles, sweet chili chicken, chicken fried rice, spring roll, and egg rolls, and a cup of soup. The tomato in the drunken noodles had so much flavor. Great flavor all together, but the freshness of the veggies in all of the plates was great! It's not often that you come across freshness like this. The flavor in the plate of the chicken fried rice took me by surprise! It was not bland at all, really savory! The sweet chili chicken was good with the plate of rice. I would love to have more veggies incorporated into the plate, but it was great even without it. The cup of soup was really good not salty, not over spiced and the stuff in it was cooked just right. Spring and egg rolls were great and crisp! We will be back to try more food. Needless to say we as a family were SUPER impressed by the food and service here! read more

We came at 830pm on a Friday night and it wasn't packed at all, probably because it closes at 9pm or so. It's also BYOB! We ordered beef jerky, pad Thai, sticky rice, papaya salad and the sausages which was shared between 2 girls. The Thai tea is also very delicious and super sweet. We had plenty of left overs. When I got back to the hotel, I noticed that they put it in a tin foil container which definitely kept the food warm. To my pleasant surprised, the Pad Thai was really good. The servings here is amazing! The food here was very delicious! We can here from recommendations for my daughters 15 birthday! It was about 6 of us and the lady was working alone. She's not once neglected us and even made our daughter feel super special. She was kind and sweet. We got Drunken Noodles and Crab fried rice.
