I was really disappointed in this place. I have heard great things about and It always seems to be packed when I pass it. Before I get into the unfortunate disappointments I do want to highlight the service. The hostess and both of the servers we had were incredibly nice and super helpful and the food came out quick! This place is dog friendly and they were quick to offer a water bowl for my dog. Now on to the disappointing thing... the food. I ordered their "most popular" and "recommended" dish, their Chilaquiles with carne asada . I saw it on another table and it looked delicious, but once I received it, it was extremely bland. The black beans tasted canned, the rice felt like they had been sitting out and got hard, the eggs were comparable to fast food eggs and the carne asada was just unseasoned chunks of overcooked steak. The only redeeming factor of this dish was that some of the chips were still crispy. read more

This was my first visit. I came specifically for the smores French toast. I have had smores French toast one other time in Paso Robles. This place was mediocre in comparison. They put mini marshmallow and a small amount of chocolate sauce. The other place used a huge amount of melted marshmallow fluff that they scorched on top. Having said that, it still tasted good. The breakfast potatoes were the best. They had a rosemary taste and were cooked well. My sister got the strawberries and marscapone French toast. She really liked hers. It's an open air tiny restaurant. Thankfully, it was cooler down there by the beach. We were sat by a lonely talker that turned kind of brutal. There is very little privacy. Came here on a Saturday late morning and it was very busy. Put my name down for three people and got quoted 15-20 mins. The wait wasn't bad at all. We sat inside. The ambiance is modern diner feel, lots of rooster/chicken decor. I liked the feel of this restaurant. We ordered three entrees and an order of pancakes to share. The Chilaquiles really are delicious and FILLING. Came with three eggs, nonetheless they were good. The churro pancakes were alright, they didn't knock my socks off. I had just finished my Annual Physical to include fasting labs so I was pretty hungry. I checked Yelp for something nearby. I was thinking I wanted something light, balanced, and filling at the same time. I saw this place and it seemed perfect! It was only 5 minutes drive to get there and I found parking immediately. I walked up to the kiosk outside the main entrance and was greeted with a smile and a friendly greeting by Eunice, the hostess. She put me on the waitlist and I only had to wait a very short time and was able to get a table. The waiter Levi quickly arrived at my table and greeted me with a friendly greeting and a smile, also. He offered some suggestions to match my cravings, and I was able to order right away. I ordered the Shrimp and grits with the Cafe de Orro. Everything was perfect and so cute! From the cute coffee cup to the plate the food came on. The food was plated with perfection and the food was top notch! Levi checked on me regularly and kept my coffee topped off. I decided to try the Local Favorite the Chilaquiles, it was not my favorite the chips were dry since it needed more sauce, the sauce did have flavor though. The rice and beans also lack flavor and had no place in this dish. Luckily the Banana Split French toast saved the day, the toppings elevated the flavor. This was our first time at Breakfast Republic. Seating was quick, and we were able to grab bar spots, which we prefer. The menu looked good and our server was extremely kind and attentive definitely a highlight. Unfortunately, the food experience didn't match the level of service. My girlfriend ordered steak and eggs, medium rare. When her food arrived and she cut into the steak, it was very hard to chew and completely raw. Our server brought it to her manager, who agreed it didn't look properly cooked. He instructed her to show it to the chef, get a new one fired, and remove the original order from our bill which we appreciated. While waiting, I started my meal the shrimp and ricotta frittata with potatoes. The flavor was good, but everything was overly salty. I didn't complain and just finished it. When my girlfriend's replacement steak finally came out, it had already been cut up, and this time it was overcooked. The waitress said they were nervous about getting it right. Understandable after the first mistake, but still disappointing and not what was originally ordered. She said it was ok with the sauce, but the experience up to that point had already taken away from the meal. The biggest confusion came when we received the bill. Instead of simply removing the steak entirely or adjusting the total the way the manager explained, the receipt showed a new steak charge with a discount applied -- and it didn't make much sense. The restaurant gave themselves a discount rather than correcting the original mistake, which was not what we heard the manager say. When we asked about the discount, we were told the only way for them to fix the mistake was to add a new steak to the bill and then apply a discount to it. So essentially, because we were inconvenienced, the restaurant discounted themselves not the original charge. We were offered a coffee cake as a discount instead which we declined, but it still didn't resolve the billing confusion. I've never seen a restaurant handle a correction like that. As a business, you account for losses on the backend not by charging the customer first and then trying to adjust it. Overall, the staff was friendly and attentive, but the food execution and the way the situation was handled left us disappointed. Based on this experience, we're not sure we'd return but hopefully others have a smoother visit. read more

I didn't even know I lived so close to this place! When we arrived the host told us it would be a 30 min wait for two unless we wanted to sit at the bar, so of course we went to the bar. We ordered an ice coffee and that took a while because it was placed in the drink area for servers to take it to the dining area. A different guy came and took our food and drink order because he saw us waiting. We got our drinks the same time as our food, only cause I asked the guy if they were coming... the food was delicious! But garret disappeared until we were leaving and until the check came the mustache guy didn't even attend us. So lack of service would be two stars but shout out to the cooks! The drinks are good as well and the location is ideal for good parking. Our waitress barely checked in with my table and when I requested water as soon as I ordered, I did not get it until the end of my meal because she forgot. The table adjacent to us had the same waitress and made comments about her providing bad service. When they received the check, they left cash and left the restaurant since she didn't come over to our area to help them pay the bill. I ordered the vegetable scramble and that was good, but you get one small piece of bread and the tiniest bit of jam. The person I was with ordered the vegan breakfast burrito which looked hearty and seems to be a better deal.
