Sunday noontime wait isn't not pleasant under the sun. Plus, you have to pay for street parking. However, I won't fault the restaurant for parking fees. Fabulous food, but a bit pricey for me. As crowded as this place gets, I was surprised to discover that their food is mediocre. Sometimes demand can bring food quality down, but they continue to have many patrons so they've got to be doing something right...perhaps I simply ordered the wrong dish, but then again, how can you go wrong with a classic chicken and waffle combo? Service was great and the staff was efficient and helpful. We were seated at the counter which wasn't too bad and I appreciated the hooks underneath, making it convenient to hang my purse. When my food arrived, I was disappointed to find that the fried chicken was a breaded piece of chicken breast rather than a drumstick or thigh or something with the bone still attached. It wasn't fried nice and crispy, but felt more soft, like the original recipe KFC that no one gets. The seasoning wasn't bad, but it definitely had a kick to it, which was unfortunate for me because I have a low tolerance for spicy foods. The waffle wasn't anything special and neither was the syrup. I think I've been spoiled by other restaurants where the chicken is crispy and flavorful, accompanied by homemade syrup. Let me tell you desperado fries were some of the best fries I've ever had. The meat on the fries was tender and perfectly seasoned. The burger was great. Go here! Came on a Friday night around 8:30 and was seated immediately. Wait staff was ALL extremely hospitable and nice and made us feel welcome. On top of that they knew their stuff. I got the grilled Mac and cheese. Was hesitant but it filled me up. I didn't know what to expect but it's literally Mac and cheese (noodles and all) inside of a sandwich. Not exactly the best place to go to after working out but we work out to eat at places like this. :) Soooo... the 411... - Lamb Burger.. LOVED every bite and was the highlight of my meal. The bread was extremely fluffy and the meat cheese and the combo itself was just melt in your mouth amazing. - Bacon Bloody Mary.. pretty good. Could use a little more substance but compared to most places where BM's tend to be more on the watery side, this curbed my BM craving. - Bahn Mi Fries - had to add $6 to sub regular fries for the bahn mi assumingly because it has pulled pork. Personally, I wasn't a fan. It soaked the fries in a very tangy sauce. I think if they lessened the sauce and had more pulled pork, maybe i'd be a fan. But they have a number of other choices to choose from, I'll be trying the others my next trip out. My best friend and I made a new year's resolution as a pair to try one new restaurant in a different city every month. This month we picked Broderick's and it did not disappoint! We showed up at noon on a Saturday and were seating right away. Tara was our server and she was next level great. I ordered the breakfast fries but I'm not huge on spice, so she went out of her way to make sure the kitchen didn't give me the spicy pre-marinated veggies. It was delicious. My best friend had the fried chicken sandwich with garlic fries and it was also amazing. Tara even made me an iced coffee, which is a must for me with brunch. Be still my heart! While my initial reaction to seeing Broderick standing in place of Hubcaps, the beloved diner of my youth, was sadness...I have quickly forgotten. My love has reinvented itself in the form of this burger mecca. After a tough spin class over at Flywheel, we decided to check out Broderick to pack back in some of the calories we'd lost and OMG it's amazing. I had a John Wayne Burger which is Diesel Ranch ground turkey, applewood smoked bacon, melted cheddar (which I swiched for blue cheese), tomato, fried onions & "wich" sauce ('which' I left off). It was perfection. I had asked for a little Dijon mustard on the side and that was the only compliment this epic sandwich needed. All sandwiches/burgers come with your choice of a salad or fries. I had a side salad and it came out in this big metal bowl. It was perfect for sharing which was what I convinced my husband to do so that I could eat some of his buffalo bleu fries (that was a well worth it upgrade of $2.50). The fries were a little soggy for my taste since they have so much sauce but I can't explain how good the flavor was...and spicy too as I happily sweat in my hairline. The bun is toasted to perfection, the meat was cooked to my liking, and the fries were nice and crispy. What a fun place!! Initially we were stressed that the wait was over an hour, but we were determined to try one of those delicious burgers we saw on every table! The bar was busy, but we squeezed in and grabbed a drink. The NFL was on and we were happily camped out and ready to wait! Within a few minutes, two seats opened up at the bar and we decided to order there. The service was sweet and efficient. This was our first visit so we had TONS of questions about the menu and beer selection. We sampled the pizza port beer (delicious) as well as cocktails. My second time here was as good as the first. Here's a combo review of the 2 visits: - Ambiance/decor reminds me of old time saloon meets a bit of Hipster Nation and a touch of Steampunk. They have a badass looking bar mixed with beautiful tables. Water glasses are mason jars with handles. Some of the lighting is those new cool lightbulbs in mason jars. A fun play on history- the menu and a big sign above the bar say "BRODERICK EST. 1893". It then gives you a quick history behind David Broderick and the establishment of Broderick in 1893. - Service is what you want and expect from this kind of restaurant and in Walnut Creek. The front of house staff are laid back but attentive to your needs. They're not overbearing with checking in, just the right amount. They all work as a team, so you can always ask another server for help. Back of house pushes out bomb food and work hard to keep the place clean. - Food is so delicious. Again, combined, we've had the Reuben, Bahn Mi sandwich, Pittsburgh cheesesteak and the lamb burger. I'm inserting this bite here so it doesn't get missed later. They top their sandwiches and burgers with the best damn pickle coin I've ever tasted. I'm a huge fan of pickles and these blow the rest out of the water. I'm asking for a side next time I go! I had to wrestle my wife for a bite of her Reuben and I'm glad I did. Cooked and prepared to perfection. Bahn Mi was your standard sandwich - nothing too special, but the meat was also cooked perfectly. Juicy, tasty bites one after the other. Dad had the cheesesteak. He's not one to wrestle with, especially over good food, but he did let me have a bite. 2 things that were very impressive about the sandwich: a) obviously hella good which was expected, and b) the bite I took was still as hot as what I'm assuming the first bite was (Insert new Geico "WHAT?" commercial here). Wife had the Prickley Pear Drop, which actually became inspiration for our wedding signature cocktail. Friend had the Mule Kick and he couldn't drink it down fast enough. Dad and I had Allagash White, 22oz. Remember what I said about the food being hot to the last bite? Every last drop was as cold as the first sip. How do they do this?! Amazing beer selection. I got the True Bleu Burger and a side salad with Cesar dressing. I wanted to substitute the standard green salad they use as a side salad for a smaller portion of the Kale Cesar salad, but the waiter wouldn't accommodate that. Besides that, the burger was by far one of the best I've ever had! I'm 6 months pregnant and was craving some beef and man -- craving satisfied! My husband said he's never seen me scarf down something so hearty so fast. We were there on a Saturday evening and as expected, the atmosphere is very loud. The seating for 2 is not very comfortable, small tables along a wall where you're forced to sit right next to the guests next to you. I get that the space is very limited, but next time we go it will definitely be during the week so we can enjoy each other (and our meals) more intimately. It just goes to show how important the quality of service is (along with the food of course) in determining your experience at a restaurant. We ordered the desperado sandwich and a side of garlic fries, as well as green spring salad. The portions are pretty big, and both my friend and I were more than happy to share everything. We both agreed that the sandwich was superb, the steak was juicy and flavorful and the carmelized onions were a nice touch. The salad was light and refreshing and the garlic fries were to die for--they were SO GOOD.
