This was my first experience at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. As my daughter-in-law said, it's like a seafood Cracker Barrel, and I think that's a good thing! After years of driving by every Bubba Gump, we finally found time to try one! It was super crowded but everyone here was super friendly and got to us as quickly as we could. Service was a bit slow as we couldn't find our server during time to pay, but they were just super busy and our server was doing an amazing job regardless. She did a "pop quiz" on the movie Forrest Gump on us which was pretty funny. I got a salad with a salmon fillet and the salmon was super dry and my strawberry salad was covered in dressing which was a bit overpowering. My kid got a pizza and it really wasn't good. I saw some of the shrimp hadn't been completely cleaned. Not a big deal since I know about shrimp but for those that don't know it's kinda gross. Now I got a thing about bathrooms. I've always been a big fan of Winston Groom's novel Forrest Gump and the movie based on it. So during a recent trip to Universal Studios Orlando for my birthday, we stopped for dinner at Bubba Gump--and I'm so glad we did. From the start, the experience was fun and immersive. The themed decor, movie quotes, and even the "Have a Nice Day" smiley face on the floor made us feel like we were walking right into the movie. Our friendly waiter made some great seafood recommendations, and everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. One of the highlights was the trivia quiz on Forrest Gump that the waiter gave us while we waited for appetizers. I got all the questions right--until he asked, "Who played Forrest Gump?" I proudly said, "Tom Hanks," and he replied, "Nope. Jenny!" (If you've seen the movie, you get the joke.) The only downside was the prices. Entrees were all over $20, which was a bit of a surprise. I even had to ask my wife for my reading glasses to make sure I read the menu right! But still, for the atmosphere and food, I'd say it's worth it for special occasions. read more
