Greasy spoon (and tables, and seats, and food) feel Misc: -Weak coffee (saves you from your-already-over-caffeinated-self) --in depth-- Denny's can suck it. Whereas everything in a chain diner is expected to be for the drunk and restless and unadventurous crowd (nothing wrong with that), Bun n' Burger is what Americans would call a "real diner". Like most chain diners, it serves Mexican fare but unlike chains, it's far less gentrified. Pancakes come at a relative whopper of a price but won't leave you feeling bloated, pasty and empty of tongue. And their patty melts--though not close to the offering at Pie n' Burger in Pasadena--gives you more than what you pay for and at a price mere fractions of Bun n' Burger's fancier cousin. I did mention it's cheap, didn't I? Keep that in mind if you find yourself in need of something just greasy enough to make you feel like a real American. read more

This is the best place in Alhambra for Mexican food - -I'm not kidding! BUT -- I usually go for breakfast and BOGO burgers on Wednesday night so I will talk about that. BOGO burgers -- yep, you translated right. Buy one burger (w/ fries or salad) and you get one free. Try to order just one, they bring you another in a to go box, that's just the way they roll at B-n-B. They are not huge, they are nice sized burgers that you can eat with a side of potatoes or salad and feel full but not gross. My favorite is probably the Teriyaki Burger with the grilled pineapple -- it is canned pineapple which is gross plain, but perfect when grilled. Who knew? Alicia and Arturo knew, they are the King and Queen of American and Mexican Diner food. BREAKFAST -- I think I've eaten everything, it is all YUM. I have to wax poetic about the broccoli-bacon omelette. VEGGIES AT BREAKFAST and I don't even like veggies so the fact that this tastes super perfect is such a score for me! Don't talk to me about the bacon bringing my health food down, I don't wanna hear it. The omelette meals come with a bread -- get the English muffin. Maybe you don't like hard cold nasty breads with weird flavors? Don't worry -- they GRILL them and that turns out to be so delectable! There is salsa on the table and I love my bacon-broccoli omelette with lots of salsa spooned on -- oh.....so perfect. The breakfast sandwich and menudo are my husband's favorites - -both super good! I also get the chilaquiles despite the fact I cannot spell them. Right now there is some left over chorizo & egg in my refridgerator...yum, I need to quit writing and go get a snack. Go to the B-n-B, it is so friendly and awesome. CASH ONLY CASH ONLY. If you are us, they will let you run home to get cash (really, we had to run cause we had not driven there) but if it is your first time, probably you need to remember your freakin' cash. read more

Bun N Burger is a throwback to the old school diners. When you first walk into their restaurant, there are two sections. There is a counter and a dining area. I've eaten at both when I visit Bun N Burger. The counter is right next to their kitchen area so you can see them cooking your order. The dining area is littered with different highway signs of different American locations/destinations. It is a great place to bring your family, friends and kids (if you have them). This is a family owned business and they're really nice. If you need to advertise with them, just talk to one of the owners. If you speak Spanish to them, this is also a plus! I ordered their Horchata and it was refreshing. Once you become acquainted with the workers there they become really welcoming to you and your group. Go on Wednesdays and Saturdays for their specials. Their 4.99 burger specials are awesome as you get 2 burgers and 2 fries. Go with an even amount of friends to make the deal worth it. Just a warning: If you don't carry cash, don't bother coming here. They do not accept credit cards. In this day and age, this is super rare for a business not to accept credit cards. Also be careful of what you leave in your car when you park. Across the street is the pool hall and there are usually some shady characters around the neighborhood. This is a very nice little place, it's filled with tons of history of Alhambra, a diner that has stood the test of time. Every time I come here the staff is full of smiles, it's family owned, you just have a good feeling when you're here. I've only eaten breakfast a few times here, not that I don't want to eat everything they have to offer. It's all that I go for since it's close to the gym. I've enjoyed my breakfast each time I come. The staff is super attentive, the place is clean. And everyone seems to work really hard to ensure everyone there is happy. I'm going to miss eating here when I move away from Alhambra, and wish I had known about it sooner. read more

There are not many places like this left. When you step inside you feel like you've gone back in time 50 years, I doubt the place has changed much since the Einsenhower administration. The dining room is full of old photographs, vintage advertising, and other assorted kitsch. The food is really good, what you'd expect from a family run operation with vintage decor. Note to self; Food was great. We had chilaquiles with steak and french toast. They refused to mix my eggs with the chilaquiles but damn, they were freaking good. They just added the scrambled eggs on top & all was well. The french toast looked kinda sad & floppy but once again, they were bangin'. The bread was soft & dense like a danish and had a very strong egg flavor even with a good amount of syrup over it. The steak was thin but juicy, not overdone. Seems like these peeps took good care behind the grill, everything we ordered was tasty & had nice texture to it. Also, it's super cheap compared to most places. I've been to this place twice so far. Once was for their 2 for 1 special on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 3pm to 6pm. For 5 bucks you get 2 burgers and 2 sides of wages fries. The second time I went for lunch on a weekday and order their burger special which include a Bun-N-Burger with french fries and a drink. for only $4.49. I actually really enjoy the place a lot. It's very friendly and cozy. Those previews reviews about the food being bad should be somehow ignored. It is not the best food in town for sure, but it is cheap fulling and enjoyable. My only cons would be the no refills on drinks. Come on I know how much a soda machine cost to a restaurant. It's NOT that expensive. read more

Bun-N Burger is by far the best you can find for the money. That being said burger lovers can find a better burger elsewhere if cost if not an issue. The good: -Wednesday and Saturday nights after 4:00PM they have a 2 for 1 burger special so two people can eat dinner for about $7-8. -They have all the special burgers you would expect to find at a speciality burger joint like an Islands (Guacamole, Teriyaki, Chili, etc.). -If you eat inside the decor is pretty awesome. They have a lot of really old memorabilia (ex. WWII era posters, a lot of coke stuff from the 50's, a moose head, a giant fish -- it is something else and pretty random, but definitely worth seeing). The bad: -The burger patties are very thin and the meat is ok, nothing compared to what you get at most "specialty" burger restaurants. -Cash Only. Miscellaneous Thoughts: They also have Mexican food, but I have never eaten it. Of course you can go any day of the week, but I can never bring myself to pay full price when I can eat 1/2 price twice a week. I especially like to go there on Wednesday nights where the 2 for 1 special is cheaper than cooking. While I recommend you eat in at least once to experience the decor, to truly be cheap order take out. Cuts out the tip/drinks and you will really have dinner for two for $7-8. Wow, what an old school place. Definitely going back into time when stepping into Bun N Burger... And the food, delicious! All the reviews are right when they say they have amazing chorizo. They're traditional egg and potatoes breakfast is also dam good... I saw many people having the menudo as well (only served on Sundays) but I'm not a menudo girl so I can onl speculate it was good. My only reasons for not giving this place 5 stars: - only one waitress for the whole place (and not the friendliest at all) - no ATM in sight (unles I missed it), and this place is cash only... I've been eating at Bun n Burger for years. It's a family restaurant that has great Mexican breakfast. The chorizo and eggs plate with beans and potatoes is my favorite. The menudo is the best in Alhambra. The chilaquiles with eggs and steak is also very good. For lunch or dinner, I also love their bacon burger with waffle fries. Disappointed. My family really enjoyed the historic restaurant. Unfortunately I was being considerate to "other" patrons by not looming over them, or standing next to their table to read the many interesting displayed wall photos. Instead I quickly took photos of select pictures to read later so not to stand and be rude to others while they were eating. The waitress rudely walked by and declared NO PHOTOS ALLOWED. Geez? Walked in and was pleasantly surprised by the nostalgic decor, 50's type dinner. Too bad the food was not at that same level. I ordered the Franch toast plate with eggs and bacon.
