My family was craving some burgers and this place came up. Although the restaurant is located inside a seemingly fancy hotel, it has a very chill and inviting atmosphere. The staff is friendly and helpful and the ordering process is smooth. Now to the food. Even though I ordered the vegetarian burger, it was juicy and extremely delicious. The sweet potato fries were also amazing. Three of my other family members ordered the cheeseburger and each one of them found it to be flavorful and tasty. I don't really understand the hype about the spot. The coolest thing is where the spot is located. The graphics on the wall was cool to look at, but the burger was kind of bland. Was talking to a someone next to me and he said the same thing. More of a tourist spot it seemed. read more

Heard that this was the best burger in NYC from two separate people, so decided we had to try it. Unfortunately it's far from the best. My burger fell apart after one bite. The patty broke into multiple pieces and the bun was already soggy so it couldn't stay put together. I had to pick on it and rip off bites to actually eat it. And it tasted like a burger you'd throw together at home. Nothing special flavor-wise at all, which is ridiculous considering the burger alone was $15. For a hamburger, cheeseburger, order of fries, soda, and cider, we were out $60. And it just wasn't worth it. I'm very happy to be in NYC so I can try all of Anthony Bourdain's Favorite New York Eats list. The closest restaurant to my midtown hotel was the Burger Joint, located in the Thompson Hotel. Cutest burger shack, tucked away in the corner of the hotel. Arrived at 12 noon on a Friday and beat the lunch crowd. Ordered hamburger with the works plus bacon, fries and a soda. Cost was about $22. I ordered the burger well done, but when it received it, it was a medium pink. French fries were good, needed a little salt. 4 stars for the food. After doing a Review of the Bank Bar in BGC, Manila I was told about some NYC hidden gems and this one was close to the job so I tried them out. So the Burger Joint tries to be cool speakeasy like esque burger spot in a midtown luxury hotel hiding behind a big red curtain in the lobby. The burgers and fries are good and on par with some of the better burgers places. The burgers are juicy and fresh with a myriad of toppings for customizing. I ordered a cheeseburger with 'The Works', which includes lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, ketchup, mustard and mayo. You can choose any of the items listed above individually without additional charge, but bacon is $$ more. There is also fries, shakes, the beyond burger too. The interior is decorated with old movie posters, stickers, and a ton of graffiti signatures left by customer over the years. Speakeasy burger joint located in the swanky Thompson hotel. Go through the red curtains on the right to enter the hidden restaurant. Food: Pretty simple normal burger menu. They don't have any specialty burgers and the toppings are pretty straightforward. While good, we weren't wowed by the burger. Their gluten free version, was just subbing out the bun for a piece of lettuce. The fries were decent, although pretty generous size it matches the expensive price tag. Overall, don't think it's worth the hype and there are plenty of other places to get your burger fix. The appeal is that it's "hidden" and not a regular restaurant. read more

One of the best burgers I have ever eaten. I am still thinking how yummy it was. Every bite was magical and having a pickle , bacon, lettuce and tomato made it that much better. Burger comes w/works I did get sauté onions which were okay. I think they could probably use a better quality bun for the price. My meal was $28. I will probably return & try something different but definitely getting them fries!!! Service is pretty quick, for a tourist attraction on the weekend, I didn't wait too long, but it does get crowded and if your party is large seating might be an issue. We came as a party of four on an October weekend evening after skating out in central park. We were CRAVING a dirty burger and fries and THIS WAS IT! It was packed. A little organized chaos inside. This is the definition of a hidden gem. Walk into a fancy hotel, through the lobby, up a short flight of stairs, then pass through a set of long maroon curtains. Voila! An affordable burger joint! Pricey, interesting ambiance, but the fries are SO GOOD. Got the sweet potato fries (surprised it was mixed with regular fries), and they were crisp on the outside, soft on the inside!! Burger Joint is located within the Thompson Central Park Hotel. They were founded in 2002 as a secret venue. It's the absolute coolest to look at all of the stickers, pictures, notes, etc... all over the walls left by those who have eaten there over the last 20 years. We went in January on a weekday and there was a short line but we were seated almost immediately & we were a party of 4. The Burger Joint itself is very small and probably seats less than 30 people. I got a burger with the works (lettuce,tomatoes, onions and pickles), and bacon with a side of spicy slaw. The burger had a good cook on it and it's a solid burger. But it wasn't the best burger I've ever tasted. I was expecting more since it was being promoting on Instagram and the place was packed. The slaw comes in a cup and it's good (shareable for 2 people). The french fries come in a bag and is big enough to make 2 portions. My boyfriend and I got an Oreo and strawberry milkshake. The Oreo shake is good but the strawberry shake was completely artificial (meaning there was no taste of strawberries, just tasted like pure chemicals). New York April 2023, Burger Joint is renovated. The entrance is now on 57th through a hallway which is also served as a bar. There is slightly more seating room. The wall decor is still the same as before. The menu is at the end of the waiting line. Hamburgers from heaven are just as fantastic as ever! When we checked in the hotel, John, the front desk staff, recommended this place to us. We had no idea it was supposed to be the late Anthony Bourdain's fav burger joint. We stopped by one night around 10:50pm after the Broadway show hoping that they are still open. Luckily, there were still many customers inside and we were able to grab a table near the entrance. Oh my gosh. Am i in love? Maybe... I Would have never known about this place if it wasn't for this book about 30 exceptional experiences in nyc that I just bought. This place is so "underground" and hidden that you would not even notice it. It's hidden inside this fancy little restaurant! So new york i love it!! I got the beyond cheese burger with fries and maybe it's because i've been craving a burger (even though I don't eat meat), but that was such a mf satisfying meal ohmygoshhh it was so so good. It's a very urban aesthetic and lots of seating. So much interesting art work and random photos to look at while you wait for your food. I love how they just hand you the burger with a flimsy paper plate and put the fries in a paper bag for you to enjoy. The presentation is very basic, but the food is delicious! My expectations are determined by the $. If I pay $40+ for a double cheeseburger, fries, and a soda, I do expect them to be fairly decent. I got the double cheeseburger with everything, cooked medium. It did have a good amount of cheese and the toppings seemed fresh. But the burger itself was easily one of the worst I've ever had. It was full of flavor, but not in a good way. It was cooked well past medium and the burger tasted like charcoal. It actually had a char taste that over powered everything else so that was all I could taste. The fries were the same way I think I ate a 1/4 of them. I went with my 5 year old daughter and we waited a few minutes but she was getting impatient (we had just walked from w 86th through the park). We got off the line when someone from behind the counter yelled to me to find out why I was leaving. He called me to the front and said don't leave.
