    Mom's Meatloaf
    Harvey K.

It's been a while since I last visited ButtercuP. I met a group of friends here for dinner on 12/08/2025. It was pretty quiet when we walked in at around 7pm. We were quickly greeted by the staff, and were immediately seated. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior had gone through some renovation work. It was much brighter than it used to be.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server got us started with some drinks. Their menu appeared to have been updated. My original plan was to get the prime rib dip, but I was so tired that I apparently ordered the prime rib dinner instead. Two of my friends got the Mom's Meatloaf, while the third got the BBQ Chicken Tortilla Salad. All entrees came with either soup or salad. Our food arrived in about 10 minutes. The prime rib was quiet good. It was moist and tender. The curly fries (I thought I ordered the sandwich) were good as well. Service we received was very good. The staff were attentive and friendly. With tax and tip, the total was about $134. For what we ordered, it was reasonable. This place has been a Walnut Creek staple for a long time. Good spot to visit if you crave American fare. 4 stars.

Ordered meatloaf, shrimp n grits, veggie omelette & waffles n sausage. Everything was really good the shrimp are big w/the grits, sausage w/waffles and omelette chicken sausage were just ok. My relative said the veggies in omelette taste like it came from the can. The meatloaf tastes like real ground beef. Hostess was very good & quick. The

I ordered the chorizo omelette with a side of hash browns, the omelette was delicious. Service was fast and simple took our orders pretty quickly almost after sitting down! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambience was nice, not too loud, calming, just right.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Buttercup Diner + Bar, Walnut Creek: 2025 Nov 11

Buttercup Diner + Bar, Walnut Creek: 2025 Nov 11 (4.5 of 5) Buttercup is one of our go-to breakfast places in Walnut Creek. It all began in 1988 by a young couple who were looking for an eatery that offered fresh food for them and their young children. They dreamed of owning a family-style restaurant where families can enjoy a casual setting that offers good food at a reasonable price - hence the birth of Buttercup was born. Now, many years later they have five locations under their belt. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Even though this is a medium to large size eatery, it's service and detail to attention can be considered a mom-and-pop joint.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They recently revamped their eatery in Walnut Creek, and we all agreed that they did a fabulous job. The revamped eatery looked clean and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their generous platter of food and the friendly servers made this a place for locals to hang out and enjoy good quality food at reasonable prices. Many of their staff has been with them for years - so they must care not only for what they bring in, but also treat their employees well. Speaking of employees, we've had a memorable service by our server, Miguel - but, this morning he was a little off-his-beat. Everyone is expected to have some bad days, so we didn't judge him by this morning's performance. He's still one of the better servers. Note: The owner approved of the images that I took, but I covered the faces of the guests who were looking directly at me for their privacy

Not Good, Mac and cheese was sad uneatable. Liver was overcooked! I just won't be buying things here again this is the second time where food was not edible I thought I'd give them a second chance today and the mac and cheese was worse he wasn't creamy or delicious it was like noodles stirred with some cheese sauce it was awful I'm heartbroken I can no longer count on having edible food from a neighborhood restaurant it breaks my heart I have pictures

I am a big fan of this ButtercuP location. This is a great place to get brunch. I've never experienced this place when it's crowded, but I'm sure it does! There is a parking lot available for all diners. It's a very big menu. Even mimosas! The staff here are quick are friendly. I personally love the biscuit breakfast.[[HIGHLIGHT]]Very "chill" vibes here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Average diner food but great spot if you want a lot of food at a decent price. Lovely staff- super sweet. The vibes are diner/lowkey! I think I would come back to try the pies, not sure if I'd dine in again.

Went to ButtercuP with my family, I'm not big on diners, but my cousins found this place close by. It's what you would expect from any dinner, no frills, no fuss. The hostesses were very welcoming. The food was okay. I had the omelette, which was just okay, I didn't finish it, I personally felt it had too much cheese. My cousins enjoyed their breakfast, they had steak and eggs with potatoes. Jo, our server, was absolutely amazing, she made our dining experience so lovely and memorable. What an absolute sweetheart, she was cheerful, and energetic but not too energetic as we were recovering from a birthday party and me from a migraine. The restaurant is very clean and welcoming. Lots of parking and easy access to the restaurant. This is a great place if you're in the area and passing through for a quick pick me up, but be careful, you'd find yourself staying longer because of the great staff. Kudos to the hiring manager for finding such true customer service oriented staff.

Had a great plate of liver and onions for lunch today. We also had a Reuben sandwich-on the dry side but the fries were delicious. Jo took amazing care of us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a homey diner with lots of choices.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Went for breakfast after a vet appointment, so I requested to sit outside because I had my pet in a carrier.. the guy at the front friendly said, "sure go right ahead, I'll sent your waiter out for you!" I said thank you, and I brought the menus out with me. We sat down, the waiter comes, and she said "table is a bit dirty" and I said, yes, if you don't mind wiping it down for me. She didn't reply, and left. I thought she went to get a towel, but no, she comes after 20 min, and is waiting and says " are you ready to order" really rude. So we ordered, still expecting her to wipe the table, IT DIDNT HAPPENED, and I had to clean the table with my only napkin. Worst Service EVER. I wish I knew her name. Food was good, but after how she treated us. Nah. Not even worth it.

I love ButtercuP and so glad they have multiple locations. Went for a hike at Mt. Diablo and this Walnut Creek location was only 15 mins away. Our server Jo was amazing, super nice and attentive! I got the egg white scramble, had to add a biscuit with honey butter and then got the French toast to share with my sister. Everything came out SUPER quick which was great since I was starving. Everything was piping hot and full of flavor. The French toast was amazing, super fluffy and airy and the egg white scramble evened out the guilt. Their biscuits are fresh made and mine was still nice and warm when I got it. The honey butter just add to the deliciousness. I'm so glad the service and food is consistent throughout the locations. They're an always busy for a reason!

Prime Rib. Medium Rare. Excellent and Great Value at $26.99!!!

We opted to not sit outside, rather inside right by the exterior seating to still get the vibes but also some AC. I love places like Lafayette where all the businesses support each other and help each other grow. Their brews on tap are mostly all local, and we grabbed some Pilsners sourced from Lafayette's new brewery, Western Flyer. So fresh and crisp. Can't wait to also check that spot out. Food-wise, we came in mid-afternoon and grabbed a Kale Pancetta salad (they pre-split the salad for us on two plates which was so nice), and for the mains, we both grabbed the Tuna Melt with fries. The salad was delicious. I'm def a tuna melt girly, and I loved the addition of the ciabatta (?) as the bread option, so fresh as well. This tuna melt comes with grapes fyi, and a few other elements mixed in. I absolutely loved it, just sharing though as I know how some tuna stans like their tuna :) This spot is clean, spacious, and perfectly situated in walking distance downtown. Would love to come back for brunch with a group of friends, or even again during the upcoming Lafayette Art & Wine Fest. Food is good, service is quick and friendly, and vibes are right. Metered parking located across the street.

The reason I rated my visit 4 stars is because after I ordered my sandwich, my food server asked if I wanted fries or a salad with my sandwich without letting me know there's a charge for both sides. I thought the fries or salad went with the sandwich and I was surprised to see a $6 charge on my bill. I told my food server I thought the fries or salad went with my sandwich and I wanted the $6 charge removed, he said he'd have to ask his manager. The manager came to my table to talk to me and I told him what I stated earlier. He asked me if I looked at the menu because it showed the $6 charge for fries or a salad. I thought that question was obvious and unnecessary. The manager took the $6 charge off of my bill. I think the food server should have mentioned there was a $6 charge for the fries or salad because he's more familiar with the charges than I am. It will be a while before I return to Main Street Kitchen & Bar because of this situation.

After waiting quite a while for someone to come to our table, we finally placed our drink order. I ordered a cappuccino and asked for sugar. When it didn't come, I reminded our server. She still did not bring it. I waited roughly 15 to 20 minutes, long enough for my cappuccino to get cold, before I had to physically get up and ask someone else to find our server. Only after reminding her again was the sugar finally brought over. It then took another 30 to 40 minutes for someone to come take our actual food order. Our server was unfriendly, disengaged, and gave the impression that she simply did not want to be there. There was no warmth, no apology for the delays, and no effort to check in or improve the experience. The food was also disappointing. Other than the pizza, most of what we ordered either arrived lukewarm or simply did not taste good. Between the poor service, the long waits, and the underwhelming food, the entire meal felt careless from start to finish. I understand restaurants can have difficult days, but this was not just a small delay or one missed item. It was a consistently poor experience throughout the visit, and frankly, not what I would expect from Main Street Kitchen.

There was only one party ahead of us waiting to be seated, and it didn't even appear that they had been acknowledged. About two or three minutes later, a gentleman came over, asked how many were in their party, and seated them. We then waited another five minutes before the bartender finally looked over and asked, "Have you been helped?" We replied, "No." He asked how many were in our party, whether we preferred inside or outside seating, and then seated us inside. After sitting for about 10 minutes with no acknowledgment from the server, the bartender returned and took our order. I had two very simple modifications to my meal. I repeated them a couple of times just to make sure they were noted, as they were nothing complicated. I simply didn't want two ingredients that normally came as garnishes. The bartender read my order back, confirmed the modifications, and walked away. About 35 minutes later, our food finally arrived, but we still hadn't received our beverages. I politely asked another server, who had yet to acknowledge us once during our visit, if we could please get our cappuccino. He brought over a regular coffee instead. I politely explained that we had actually ordered a cappuccino. He seemed irritated but said, "Fine, I'll go get it for you." Unfortunately, my food wasn't prepared correctly despite the bartender repeating the order back to me. Even more disappointing, my entire meal was ice cold. The scramble was cold, the toast was cold, and honestly, nothing on the plate was warm. What made the experience even more frustrating was that there wasn't a single opportunity to mention any of this. The bartender never came back. The server never checked on us. Even the person who delivered our food never returned to ask how everything was. We were essentially forgotten after our meals were dropped off. I genuinely hate writing negative reviews because I work in customer service myself and understand firsthand how overwhelming the service industry can be. I completely understand getting busy. What I don't understand is completely ignoring your guests. Even when you're overwhelmed, acknowledging customers and checking in, even briefly, makes a huge difference. Looking back, I probably should have taken the condition of the restaurant as a warning sign. When we walked in, there were numerous tables inside that still had dirty plates, cups, and leftover food from previous guests. The outdoor patio looked the same. What surprised me most was that many of those same tables were still covered in dirty dishes when we left. I wasn't expecting perfection, but I was expecting much more than what we experienced. We spent over $50, received cold food, an incorrect order, waited an unusually long time for drinks, and never had a single opportunity to let anyone know because no one ever checked on us. It was honestly a very disappointing experience, especially after hearing such positive things about this restaurant.
