I'm a fan of this place because of the following: Fantastic French Toast - you can't go wrong with getting their full plate which is more than enough, or their combo with egg and bacon. Great food and friendly service in a place with a real cozy and welcoming atmosphere! The portion sizes are large enough to satisfy the biggest of appetites. This place was great! I'm so glad I found it.. My new favorite town breakfast place! I had the cinnamon French toast and it was cooked perfectly with a nice balance of cinnamon and sweetness. It came with some yummy blueberry sauce too.. My friend had one of the eggs Benedict's which he said was the best poached egg he's ever had! He loved it and said it was super delicious. I used to love this place but my last two visits have been disappointing. The staff is so loud! I tend to come here after the breakfast or lunch rush and for some reason the staff always seems to be hanging around the front desk talking and laughing loudly, and sometimes yelling across the room at each other. I know that part of the problem is that I come when I expect it to be less noisy, and I often come alone so maybe it seems louder to me than it does to others. If you are not sensitive to noise, you may not even notice this. The food is great so I am sure I will visit again sometime. read more

Today I visited Buttercup with my mother and boyfriend. I want to clarify that this review is NOT for our server. Paula was amazing and so nice. She made sure our soup was the proper temperature before leaving the table because they didn't have steam coming off of them. This review is based on the food, and the "boss." I did have to have my soup reheated. We were all ready to order, so I got the vegetarian benedict, mom got a chopped salad, and my boyfriend got a fried chicken sandwich. My party all enjoyed their food, but my eggs and hollandaise were COLD. I don't enjoy sending food back, and I don't often do so. However, I knew that Paula would be nice about it, so I felt comfortable asking for another plate. When it came out, Paula and her "boss" were standing there. Her boss rudely said, "Have her taste it, because I DON'T want to make another one." Are you kidding me? If you didn't want to make another one, you should've made it right the first time! Paula was embarrassed about his behavior, and gave us complimentary coffee cake. I would return for her service alone, but not if that man is making my food. I hope management sees this and decides to have a serious talk with this guy, because he's the reason I'm giving 2 stars to a restaurant I normally enjoy. read more

I've eaten here once before, thanks to a hearing I had to attend at the courthouse across the lot. My wife's never been and she was craving meatloaf so we stopped by. Let me start off by saying that this is my second time coming to this location, and I must say Joanne, our server was so sweet and wonderful. She was on top of her game. She made sure we got drinks immediately, got our orders in a timely manner. We started off with the jumbo mozzarella sticks, (which they were not lying about it being jumbo) and chili cheese fries. Appetizers are very fair for their pricing BTW. For the main course, I got chicken champagne and my boyfriend got the fettuccine Alfredo (which came with salad or soup). They have an awesome deal if you make it in time. I ordered a combo with sausage, eggs, and even had some French toast in there. It was all delectable. This location has improved immensely through the years. I use to avoid the location completely, because the Clayton location was so much better, but that's just not true anymore. I feel positive about coming back to on a weekly basis for their great tasting food, clean restaurant, friendly staff, and comforting atmosphere. My husband and I came here on a late Sunday morning and no wait. I was worried to be honest. But we sat down and everything was amazing. The restaurant is very clean and nice; the customer service was very attentive and personable; and the food was so so good. I ordered this cinnamon roll thing (frosted criscuit or something?), it was very sweet and very good; I imagine it would be really good with coffee and a newspaper. I also ordered the chicken sausage and omelette scramble which was good but the cheese was clumped in the center and not well mixed in - really a bummer. Me and my 77yr. Old mother stopped here for lunch after her doc appt. We ordered she had fish n chips I had a downtown sandwich which was really good the biscuts and Gray was not. gravy too thick and fries was cold as well as gravy was. When we got the check my mom gave him her card and he brought back the receipt which did not have a senior discount so I asked the owner in the front, she was rude and said " did you ask for it (mind you most of the customers there were seniors) I felt you can clearly see she is a senior it's a giving but she said she already signed it nothing they can do! I came here with my parents (86 and 89 years old). Our waiter was SUPER nice and friendly and joked around with my parents in a way that made them feel comfortable and he dealt with their requests nicely. It may not be one of the trendiest places in vogue these days and you might see more white hair than hipsters here but they have been here for decades serving up longstanding American favorites proving they are doing something right! Once inside, you will see its a relaxed and cheerful diner with comfie booths and tables. They even have a large patio. Looking for mega variety? They have an entire menu solely for breakfast and another large one for lunch and dinner. And yet another separate one pager of seasonal specials. That not enough choice for you? Not to worry because they have daily specials like chicken and waffles and soups as well. A few of my fave menu items are their Reuben and pastrami sandwiches. I also love their spicy shrimp salad which isn't always on the menu but you can just ask for it. But really, everything is so good and their servings are very generous. They also have great hash browns and thick bacon. If that's still not enough, they have a wide selection of milkshakes and about a dozen different pies to choose from. Wine, cocktails? They have it covered with their full bar. They also have an espresso bar for coffee lovers. This review would not be complete without giving the outstanding waitstaff their due. First off, let me say how much I loved Buttercup. I would always request to eat here with all my friends and family. But all that changed..... i recently got surgery because I had a tumor removed from my stomach and because of that , I can eat only a quarter size cup of food. I asked if I can order from the kids meal due to wanting to order something rather than just not order. I had talked to the manager since I thought he would be more empathetic than the waitress was.The manager said I was not allowed to order from the kids meal as well... and so I just didnt order anything and watched my friend eat. Never have I felt so embarrassed for my medical issue and they lost a customer who has been going to Buttercup for the last 10 years. I even rented out a space to have my wedding rehearsal dinner years ago... I guess this is Good Bye to a long time customer. read more

Debbie is our girl! She treats us like family and we adore her bubbly personality. After our very first visit she had our orders memorized, she is sharp and quick! One time we walked in, she pointed us to a table that had our drinks on it already - she'd seen us getting out of the car and started preparing! Debbie is a diamond in the rough, she's always FAST and we never have issues with our orders ever - only one time did I send an item back. I'd ordered pancakes and they were so thick, they were still a little liquid in the middle. When I told Deb about it she looked like she was going to fist fight someone in the kitchen for making the mistake! I felt so bad for whoever cooked it! Less than 30 seconds later and she had a piece of coffee cake in front of me to make up for the pancakes. Food is always absolutely perfect (with the exception of Pancake-Gate 2016), and the menu has so much variety that it has something to please everyone, even the pickiest eaters. We've never been for dinner, but the breakfast and lunch menus are great. My daughter and I went to Buttercup for breakfast yesterday. . We have been there before and always got good food. Yesterday was different. I ordered corned beef hash. I have had it there before. It was the worst excuse for hash that I have ever had in my life. It was unappetizing and looked like dog poop. It tasted the same although I have never tried dog poop.
