Really enjoyed the food!! The menu offers typical "Diner food"...but I'd say it has a nice original touch as well. My husband enjoyed his burger, which was incredibly juicy and full of flavor. His fries were AWESOME, and my favorite, very crispy. I ordered the steak sandwich, which was excellent as well. It was actually cooked med-rare (which I requested), which was nice, considering whenever I order a steak sandwich somewhere, they don't took the temp as requested and I typically get an incredibly chewy over done piece of meat. My one complaint was the fact that it said Sirloin in the menu, but this cut was flank steak. I'm normally a fan of flank steak, however, if you know your red-meat, you'll know that flank steak is best served sliced against the grain as fajitas, which makes it less chewy. Though it WAS tender, flank steak is not a good choice for a steak Sando. Overall, enjoyed the experience, fast service and food waitstaff. Will be back again when I'm in the area. read more

Even though we've lived in the area for about 4 years we had never tried Buttercup, but a craving of "breakfast for dinner" and a sad lack of other options lead us here tonight. We were very pleasant surprised! My husband had the chicken pot pie and a cup of matzah ball soup ( which is not easy to find around here either). The soup was very good and not too salty. The chi ken pot pie was good with tender. Hi ken and vegetables that were not at all mushy. I had an omelet with O'Brien potatoes and a biscuit. The omelet and potatoes were very tasty, the biscuit was disappointing. The menu says they're home made but it seemed as if the kitchen had microwaved it, so it was kind of soft and steamed rather than a flaky biscuit. We split the key lime pie for dessert - all the pies are home-made and this one was very good. The restaurant was clean and our server was sweet and attentive. Will definitely be back! read more

The manager Carlos offered excellent customer service, my fiancé and I have been to countless restaurants where the service was just awful. We ordered 3 breakfast combos for takeout and unfortunately our orders where missing some of its sides. So we called back to inform them of the mistake, he offered to fix it. When we arrived to pick up the additional sides, The Manager Carlos offered to remake all 3 of our meals and even included 2 sliced cakes on the side. I was shocked because most restaurants won't go above and beyond for the most simplest mistakes. Overall I would say this is a great location to eat dine in or takeout, the staff as what I could see were very friendly and also I noticed had great relationships with their customers as they called them by their last names. Had breakfast today because it was the only place open at 6am that I could reach without a car (my car was getting serviced at the Toyota dealership). I ordered pancakes, eggs, and bacon. The entire meal was average at best. This place is no different than a Denny''s or Carrow's. The interior was clean, but grossly dated - again, think Denny's or Carrow's. The waitress was very friendly and nice. I read the owner's mission statement on the menu and was underwhelmed. With such average quality and flavor, I'm surprised they have 5 locations! In the end, the service was good and the place was clean. If you're out & about and everything is closed, then it's fine, but don't expect anything special. read more

If you want a restaurant that serves good, down to earth food, with lots of options, Buttercup is a great choice. We love to order Buttercup on Friday nights after long work weeks, as the food is good, hearty, and affordable. We aren't the adventurous types, and typically stick to basic menu items like breakfast for dinner, which is delicious. We also like their turkey club as its loaded with turkey and ham, and it comes with curly fries which are delicious. We've also had the burgers and they are thick and juicy. Our only complaint is the desert as we had the cheesecake and one of the pies. We didn't love them, specifically the cheesecake was too dry. While this is a bay area chain, we like to support our local businesses during these challenging times. We will continue going back to Buttercup to treat ourselves to homestyle meals after busy work weeks. read more

I love the Buttercup. It is my home away from home; when I want great food, great service and a consistently pleasant overall experience. I can say that although I have eaten there hundreds of time, over a 22 year span, it is my "go-to" place when I want a superb breakfast, good lunch and good dinner for a fair price. I can always take friends there and count on any enjoyable experience. They are very accomodating when you ask for any adjustments in your order. They go way beyond providing your meal the way you would like it. I often sit at the counter and watch the amazing speed and efficiency that occurs in a very cramped space as the servers work. It runs smoothly with a real team effort. I am always amazed at the amount of food that the servers can maneuver on huge trays without any accidents or spills or sometimes, just balanced on their arms. Good omelet except the Artichoke hearts tasted bad. I was able to pick them out, but occasionally got a small piece stuck among the veggies which gave me a bitter beer face reaction. Without it, the omelet would have been fine. Home fries tasted like they were previously frozen. Had some accidental hashbrown pieces that tasted real good, thats what i get for trying to be healthy! 3 stars because they have other items like pancakes, waffles, and a BAR (tried none of these as was going for a healthier option!) We just tried this place and everything was AMAZING!!!! My daughter had it come up as a sponsored ad on her Instagram so we drove the hour to go try it. I heard about this place from my fellow nurses and they raved about the food, so I finally tried it out. I must say, for the casual diner setting, I didn't expect to get such a diverse and interesting menu. The menu is large and ranges from standard egg breakfast, to waffles, French toast, Eggs Benedict, to T bone steak and eggs. I had the Linguica eggs Benedict with sauteed spinach and some of the best hash browns I've had in a while. I'm a sucker for crispy crunch, but not overcooked harsh browns. My date had a very delicious plate of pork chops with eggs. The mimosas are made with fresh squeezed OJ or Grapefruit juice and both were delicious! Price was resonable, great service and a casual "come as you are" atmosphere. No wonder they are popular with the nurses coming in their scrubs after a 12hr night shift...and they are open early at 6am! I will definetely be back to try other dishes on the menu! read more

My kids and I wanted to come to Buttercup diner to try the cinnascuits that everyone raves about. We ordered the cinnascuits which came out first they were okay seemed a bit old like if they were from the day before which is fine but they could've heated it up a bit more to make them moist they were a little dry and hard. Only moist in the center. My daughter had the churros waffles which were amazing just like a churros moist and crunchy . My son had the Southwestern Benedict on a biscuit instead of English muffin only because I gave him the idea it was good. I had the Cajun Benedict on a biscuit it was my original idea to do that I'm not a huge fan of the english muffin overall. My Cajun Benedict was good and I didn't leave any leftover The service was good and overall it was a good dining experience just need to work on the cinnascuits if they're not fresh heat them up a bit more so they seem fresh and moist. The only reason I'm giving two stars is for the food. We had awful service today from the second we walked in and as a manager of a customer service oriented establishment, I would want to know if people were not doing their jobs properly. Hence this review for the owner or manager. The hostess was young with faded red hair. My Grandmother has a walker and was inquiring about a booth as it would be more comfortable for her back and the hostess gave her a look of disdain and said they only had tables available. We looked into the restaurant and pointed out a few open booths. She said they were taken and asked if we wanted the table or wanted to wait for an open booth. Then she proceeded to stare at us with menus in her hand. No smile, no compassion, no warmth. I felt like we were inconveniencing her. We decided on a table and went to sit. The waitress had a decent demeanor but she avoided us the entire time for some reason. She was Hispanic with blonde hair and glasses. She kept us waiting for a good ten minutes before taking our order, even though we had our menus closed. She did apologize for the wait but it felt very insincere. We had to ask for everything; refills, boxes, etc . Even utensils. We had no utensils at all and when we pointed it out to the bus boy, he shook his head, sighed and looked over at our waitress who was idling at the counter doing nothing. My Grandma and I were splitting a sandwich and she didn't bring out an extra plate and she forgot to bring out the dressing for my Aunts salad. I noticed that she was much more attentive to all the other tables but ours. Not sure why we were singled out and got such crappy service. My grandma has been coming to this establishment for years but I'm going to take her elsewhere from now on. This was unacceptable. She said the other employees are better here and I'm sorry that I didn't see that today. The two we did run into were so rude. I have worked in the customer service industry for years and this was some of the worst I've experienced in a restaurant that has been around for years. Really poor and super unfriendly. I would give this place zero stars if I could for the terrible management. I've been to other ButtercuP locations and have always had an enjoyable experience, so when my family met at the courthouse (which shares a parking lot with this diner) I suggested that we all go there to eat afterwards. My husband drove separately and came into the courthouse telling me how a worker at ButtercuP came outside to yell at him for parking in front of the restaurant and he tried to explain that we'd be in the courthouse briefly and then come eat afterwards. The man continued to yell at him and threaten to get his car towed. I then went outside to move my car as I was also parked in front of the restaurant and the same man runs outside as I'm preparing to move my car and immediately yells, "NEXT TIME, I'M GETTING YOU TOWED!" I told him that there was nothing there that said the spot was reserved just for the restaurant and he once again said, "I DON'T CARE. NEXT TIME YOU'RE GETTING TOWED!" as he laughed and walked away. This was in front of several customers eating breakfast on the patio. I'm not sure if this man was on a power trip but he was INCREDIBLY unprofessional. Just a simple, "sorry, this parking is reserved for the restaurant" would have sufficed. I went back inside the courthouse and told my family of 8 that we would not be going there for brunch afterwards. I also called the restaurant to let them know they need to work on their terrible management and rude customer service. Ok, so we're all stuck at home. Trying to order from local restaurants to support our neighbor businesses. Have ordered from several since pandemic began, many with sloppy websites, tech issues, long waits for food, and not great service. This was NOT my experience at Buttercup. I was so impressed with the ordering process online, easy to follow, pickup time was quoted, and I arrived. Food was ready exactly as quoted and same consistent quality was experienced. Buttercup is not as fancy as other restaurants, for sure, but they do what they do very well, are dependable and friendly, and provide high quality, delicious food. We'll be continuing to order from them through the pandemic and head back in when this is over. Highly recommend. read more

Went there this morning and the staff was friendly. The place was packed. The menu has a lot of choices. The bad part is that our food came out ice cold. My husband and I both ordered Eggs Benedict with hash browns crispy. The hollandaise sauce was gelled, eggs cold and has brown were burned (almost black) on both plates. The waitress takes them back and we don't get new food. Nope - was microwaved. How do we know? Because my husband cut his in half before she took it. His was hot, mine was cold still. She took mine back saying she'll have them make new. Was a new plate with somewhat hot eggs. Same hash brown that we're now steaming and like rubber. I don't know if any restaurant that takes food back and microwaves. Won't be going back. read more
