Our visit to CA Bakehouse left us with mixed feelings. We tried a variety of items, including the Pandan Macadamia Cookie, Black Sesame Cookie, Vietnamese Coffee Cookie, Ube Croissant, Pandan Green Waffle, and Pandan Milk Bread W/ Coconut. The disappointment began as soon as we arrived. A line had formed, and we were unable to enter the bakery to get a closer look at the pastries. Instead, we had to peer through the window to make our selections. This lack of access to the display made the experience less enjoyable, as part of the pleasure in visiting a bakery is being able to appreciate the products up close. To add to the frustration, attempting to access the online menu through the QR code proved futile. It redirected us to their website, only to be met with a "page not found" error. This made it challenging to explore their offerings and left us feeling a bit disconnected from the bakery's offerings. The ordering process at the cashier was straightforward, and we appreciated the convenience of paying by credit card. The paperless email receipt was a nice touch, minimizing waste and contributing to an environmentally friendly experience. As for the food, it fell into the realm of average. The Pandan Green Waffles, while flavorful, were disappointingly soft, and some were even burnt. It seemed like a lack of consistency in preparation. The Pandan Milk Bread W/ Coconut, on the other hand, was on the drier side, which affected its overall appeal. In summary, CA Bakehouse offers a decent selection of pastries, but the restricted access to the bakery, technical issues with the online menu, and inconsistencies in the quality of some items left us with a less-than-stellar impression. CA bakehouse is finally open (well soft opening)! Here's a little background story: I was chatting with the owners of CA bakehouse, and found out they first opened a small bakery named Le Monde bakery many years ago then opened Century bakery. When Century bakery closed they opened California Bakehouse in Milpitas. Finally, they moved back to Vietnam Town and opened CA Bakehouse. Just to be clear California Bakehouse in Milpitas is under new management and CA bakehouse is the only location they have. Interior: Super cute and modern! They have a cool bear decal too! Perfect for those Insta photos. When you first walk in to the left they have the baked goods, and straight ahead is the cash register and cakes. A pretty small spot, but a perfect little place to get your bakery goods! Food: They have the traditional items like cocktail buns, angel cakes, etc. I love the green waffle and have tried it at other places like Bambu, but no other places compare to the OG green waffle! In addition, it's only $1.75! Holy cow that's cheap as heck! I have seen placed charging $4-6 a waffle. Insane! They also have a braised pork bun that is not like any I've ever had. The top has this soft crunchy layer and the meat is not like the typical the asian style chasu. I don't know how to describe it, but trust me it's a must if you come here, and that's coming from someone who doesn't usually gravitate towards pork buns. I would suggest asking them to heat it up if possible. Since it is their soft opening not all their advertised baked goods were available, but I will definitely be back to try their Portuguese egg tarts and mochi muffin! I recently visited California Bake House and was thoroughly impressed. The selection of baked goods was incredible, with a special highlight being their Pandan croissant. It was a unique twist on the classic French pastry and the flavor was spot on, the combination of pandan and butter was just perfect. The croissants in general were flaky and buttery, and absolutely delicious. The egg tarts were also delicious, with a perfect balance of sweetness and the custard was smooth and creamy. I also got the banana walnut mochi and the guava mochi which I would highly recommend as well. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We came on a Friday right when they opened around 12pm and there were already a few people there. Nonetheless, service was super fast and I got my pastries within a few minutes of ordering at their outdoor covid window. I recently visited CA Bakehouse and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious kaya flavored pastries they offer. Despite the long line outside, the wait wasn't too bad, though I do wish they allowed customers inside to browse. Relying on Yelp photos was a bit challenging. However, once I tried their kaya egg tart and kaya honeycomb cake, I was thoroughly impressed. Both were flavorful, delicious, and perfectly balanced in sweetness. While the kaya croissant was just okay when eaten the next day, I suspect it would've been better fresh. My only suggestion would be to improve visibility of the menu for easier ordering. It was hard to judge the ambiance of the bakery because we were not allowed inside, but I really appreciated the friendliness of the person who took my order. What I ordered: Guava Filled Mochi, Kaya (Pandan Custard) Choux, and Durian Egg Tart. Kaya Choux: The pandan custard is very smooth and creamy. The coating and custard are both sweet, but the pastry itself is kinda salty. I don't like the combination of sweet and salty flavors. So this is just okay to me Durian Egg Tart: The plus is they use fresh durian. However, to me it's kinda weird to eat fresh durian and egg custard at the same time. So I just ate them separately I ate the durian in the middle first and then the egg tart around Guava Mochi is the best The guava filling is not too sour, not too sweet. The mochi is very soft, moist and spongy. Recommended! Will come back to try kaya croissant and honeycomb cake. read more

I had their portuguese egg tart and kaya croissant. The layers of the croissant were flaky and chewy. The pandan filling was sweet but not too sweat. A perfect combination with the flaky chewy croissant. The egg tart was custard and eggy. They offer a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar on the egg tart if you request it (sounds bomb). Their Vietnamese iced had a slight hazelnut flavor, very tasty and refreshing. I can't stop thinking about the croissant, it's a must try!! read more

CA Bakehouse in San Jose is a gem! The egg tarts are simply the best--think soft, creamy filling with a light, flaky crust that melts in your mouth. I just wish the croissants had a bit more filling. Great little bakery! There was a short pine outside on a Sunday afternoon, but it went quickly. Check their online menu, but they had a chalkboard outside with current flavors. I got 4 pastries, all we're good, but the Ube croissant was my favorite. They have some drinks too, the vietnamese coffee is very good. read more

One of my favorite spots for egg tarts! My friend just got married, and they got CA Bakehouse for their dessert catering. The egg tarts ran out in just 5 minutes. Definitely air fry them if you want them to be crispy and gooey on the inside. Other things to check out is the honey comb pandan cake. read more
