Ok so, I live down the street and was excited to try this place out. I've had breakfast at another cafe 50s that has since closed so I was excited to try one near my house. The ambiance is cool, but the food was not good and the service was not great. They made multiple mistakes on our order. Hopefully they can improve things because i would love to have a nice diner to go to, but currently its not really worth it. read more

I can't stress enough how disappointed my friends and I were by our experience here. We were excited to try the food because the atmosphere/decor was cool. Until we noticed a few blatantly racist posters on the walls... which were caked with dust. We started off on the wrong foot- I ordered a Coke and it was literally FLAT like no carbonation. Our waitress seemed like she didn't know the menu and took a really long time to write down each order and told us to "hold on" or "slow down" in a really patronizing tone. THEN The food came. And oh. My. God. It was TERRIBLE! We ordered 3 burritos, a burger, and chili. And we ordered deviled eggs for the table because we saw people raving about them on here. I don't know if it was a really off day in the kitchen but everything was BLAND. The deviled eggs tasted like nothing but luckily they were less than a dollar each so it wasn't a big deal. Based on the poor quality of the food and the price alone, I would not eat here again. But even still- it gets worse ! They refilled our water several times which was nice, but each time they did the water would splash every where to the point where my friend's burger was drenched and soggy, and an ice cube landed in my chili. This ruined our appetites even further. When we asked the waitress to have the the items taken off our bill she gave attitude and said she'd get her manager. We waited for 20-30 minutes and the manager never came. I had to stop two more waiters before someone actually helped us. In summary, the food is bad, the service is bad, and it's over priced. You're just paying for the ambiance, and even that is somewhat tarnished. Don't waste your money. read more

Went there in the weekend to check it out and everything was awesome. The place was full of nice photos and objects from the 1950s where you can actually buy some interesting things from that time like candy and postcards. The servers were very friendly and attentive to all the details to make sure our order was right. The shakes are a MUST in this place, they have so many options (43 to be exact) and it was hard to pick only one. The deviled eggs and the blue bacon burguer were so good that I almost ordered to go. **Truly just enjoyed a delicious delivery meal! I ordered the Jalapeño & Jack Cheeseburger with sweet potato fries! The burger was so juicy, with fresh ingredients & cooked the way I requested. The amount of onions was so perfect. I usually only get a good amount of onion when I'm at in-n-out. The fries were perfectly cooked and great amount given. I'm not a real fan of sweet coleslaw, but it was a nice touch to add to the meal as a side dish. Ps. The ranch and the thousand island is good and the Tapatio packets given were a great surprise! I'm Mexican I love spice in my life! I also ordered cheesecake and they gave me a great big slice with fresh whipped cream in a side container! Brilliant! The best part of my meal was the personal touch. A small goodie bag decorated by hand, imagine that! I loved it! I low-key wish they gave out some stickers instead of placing them all on the bag. I did cut one out and save it. It came with a animated menu and official publication of the last diner on Route66 !!!! Definitely had me feeling like I was sitting in the booth reading all these fun facts! I'm at work now and I will definitely continue to order new things via the direct website. The service was bad. Only two women who work there seemed to know what's going on and have a sense of customer service. Moreover, I went on a Friday, around 11a, so they were not busy. The venue was nowhere near full. Took over 15 mins to get beverages, and though I asked for a straw with my beverage, it was served without one. Took another 15 minutes for a straw to be delivered, after I requested one again. I ordered a burger with fries, med rare. it was served med well, and far too salty. The fries were good, but needed to be served on a separate plate because they were heaped over the open faced burger. In other words, I had to eat or move all the fries in order to get to the patty. I asked for a small plate so I could move the fries, and a side of ranch for the nieces who wanted to share the fries. I had to ask two people and the 2nd person delivered it. She was one of the ladies who seemed to know what's going on. My niece ordered French toast, it was served with no syrup. Another 10 mins to get syrup delivered. My 13 year old niece ordered a cheesesteak sandwich. I did not taste it, but she said it was not 'that good'. Sad because I used to come here often as a UCLA student. I used to love it. I took my nieces to a throw back from my past and they liked the venue, but the service is not what I remember, or what we expected. I did not complain. I paid the bill, and left. read more

The taste was similar to a bad turkey burger only I ordered beef. I ended up throwing most of my burger away. - 2 star , that's why it's a 1 star review Service- the servers were friendly but did not know the menus or what comes on the order. When told of how bad my food was, they did not even ask to discount it or offer another item. 2 stars for being friendly . I love this place! On a nice day it's fun to sit outside and enjoy the great L.A. weather. The menu is huge but everything I've had has been tasty and well prepared. It can sometimes be difficult to get the attention of a server when you're the only table eating outside but not a problem at all when there are more people. read more

My best friend and I stumbled upon this place and decided to go in for shakes. The establishment is covered in old movie posters, vintage ads, and political ads from the Nixon and Eisenhower eras. For our orders, we split an Apple Pie shake (STRONGLY suggest) and both got entrees for brunch. I ordered the spinach omelette with the potato's and toast and she ordered a burger with fries. Beware that the portions are huge! Not a problem, but we were not prepared. We asked our waitress to cash some of our money into quarters for the jukebox at our table and she was able to exchange $10. Unfortunately, we never heard our song play. This is a great place to bring kids. Mine always want to go here whenever we go out to eat. They have coloring pages, toys, and sometimes even balloons, and it's nice to have the kids distracted and enjoying themselves during a meal so the adults can talk. Our waitress brought some little tops to play with while we waited on our food. We wanted to get a milkshake and this place has many different combinations that they have catered for you. For years I would pass this place while riding the bus on Santa Monica Blvd and think to myself, "Got to try that place one day." So the nearby Laemmle Royal theater was showing a classic comedy with one of the stars doing a Q&A afterward. Felt like the perfect opportunity to try it out. Love the decor. The 50s vibe is amazing with ad art, old magazines, etc. And of course classic rock blares over the sound system. I went old school with a cheeseburger and fries. Very authentic with a slightly greasy patty. Great fries. And I ended the meal with the intriguing black and tan sundae the has hot fudge and butterscotch. It all was fun and well worth trying. As soon as you walk into Cafe 50's, you immediately get that classic diner feel. I've been here several times now, especially when I'm in the mood for breakfast or comfort food. If you can't decide between ordering french fries or onion rings, there's an option to order the fifty fifty which comes with both onion rings & fries. For the side, thick and creamy ranch is provided or ketchup is in glass bottles on the table. I've had a Blueberry Cobbler Milkshake here and it is massive. The shake comes in a glass cup and the reminder comes in a metal cup they made it in. Root beer floats ($5) are delicious but wow so expensive, especially for just vanilla ice cream and root beer. For breakfast, there are a lot of options that are typically of a diner. I really appreciate how accommodating the staff is with any modification I asked for. My favorite breakfast option so far has been the Spicy "Wet" Chipotle Breakfast Burrito. I asked for the salsa on the side and substituted the bacon for sausage. Cafe 50's is convenient and a solid choice of breakfast in the early morning or comfort food late at night. read more

A huge huge thank you to the ladies at Cafe 50's last night who made myself and my guests feel so welcomed. One of my guests was elderly, and these women went out of their way to make sure he had a nice experience. We started with the milkshakes, which were great! We had the meatloaf, burger, fries, and grilled cheese. The portion for the fries were huge, perfect to share with other people! The burger is also a big size. Even on a Tuesday night this place was very lively. I love the vintage ads, there is just so much to look at it really does feel like a blast from the past. A friend brought my wife and I a few months ago and we come 3 or 4 times month. The food is really good but the people takes the experience over the top, they are helpful and fun. The remembered I like a 50/50 coffee and when we walk in, a new pot of decaf is put on. Feels like home with all the smiles. I always take leftovers home for a 2nd or 3rd meal. I've been coming to this restaurant for 11 years and the food is wonderful and the staff are really kind this place definitely does not deserve the 3.5 starts they have on yelp. Cafe 50s also has one the best milkshakes in LA. For food I recommend the old world turkey Swiss melt tastes really good. I also love how the restaurant is set up it's really creative.
