Got the Grapefruit Jasmine Iced Tea and it was so refreshing, would try again. I think the price for teas was pretty decent. There were so many pastries to try but opted for the Ube Flan Cupcake and Ube Cheesecake. The cheesecake had the right amount of creaminess and the cupcake was rich in flavor and texture. Definitely taste the ube. I would want to try the Ube Butter Bar or the Ube Pop Tart next time. I enjoyed the ambiance and would come back to study and enjoy a drink. I already knew there will be a long line during the first week of grand opening so after a few weeks I came by on a Thursday afternoon bingo no lines no customers which made it so much easier to order. The ladies working here are so attentive and polite as I was greeted. The interior is not as spacious as the one in Union City though here they do have an outdoor seating and a great view of the surrounding area with bustling business. Cafe 86 is famous for its upside down halo halo a traditional Filipino dessert. I just had a craving for it a combination of milkshakes and fruit parfait a mixture of both sweet not overwhelming is what I like would definitely be back so support your local business. I went 3 times in one week. I think that says it all LOL. It's the corner store so you can't miss it. A pretty big menu so there's a lot to choose from. I ordered: Turon pop tart : nice and flakey and not too sweet. Had bits of jackfruit in it too. Upside down halo halo: interesting concept. It was an icey ube slush in addition to the usual jellos, ice cream, and corn flakes - an inverted halo halo? Lol. Regular halo halo : classic and can't go wrong. I actually prefer this one over the upside down one. Strawberry calamansi: soooo tasty and refreshing ! Dragonfruit calamansi: can't decide which is my favorite drink of the two, but this one was soo good too! Ube flan cupcake : iconic item. Flan is thick and the cupcake is moist. Heard about the opening two weeks ago, we came in today to stop by and see what this cafe has to offer. I was excited coming here because most in the menu are from my Lupang Hinirang -Philippines. Im a fan of ube. Order Service was good, a little slow but there was a line so thats understandable. The parking itself its in Evergreen square, so ita a hit n miss and will always depend on what day and time. Ambiance the cafe is small but has nice aesthetic to it. I love supporting small Filipino businesses, so I was excited to try Cafe 86 again after a pleasant experience at their Vegas location. This cute little café has a cozy vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating, though it can get a bit loud inside when it's busy. I placed an online order for pickup since I was in a bit of a rush, but unfortunately, when I arrived, my drink hadn't even been started. That kind of defeats the purpose of ordering ahead. The staff member was very apologetic though, and I could tell she was super busy, so I appreciated her kindness despite the delay. I saw that Cafe 86 opened up a new location in the Evergreen area of San Jose. I've been wanting to go to the one in Union City for a while, but the opportunity to be in the area never arose. We arrived a few minutes before opening time on a Sunday. There were about 12 people in line ahead of us. I was hoping the line would move, but what took forever was making the drinks. They need to figure out a more efficient way of making drinks while serving others who don't want drinks. I'm a huge fan of Brazo de Mercedes, but they didn't have the ube brazo crunch at this store location. That being said, we got an assortment of other items to try. Turon pop tart - The idea was better than the execution. Ube tres leches - Excellent. Super moist cake, and the ube flavor was popping. Ube butter bar - Didn't care much for this one. I thought it was going to be like the Hawaiian butter bar made with mochiko, but it wasn't nearly as good. The crust was too crumbly. This was my sister and I's first time at Cafe 86 and I honestly really enjoyed their treats! The cashiers were polite and service was fast. It was clear that people enjoyed this spot because there were multiple customers with take out orders. There were also people spending time with friends, chatting and happily enjoying their treats. It's a very pleasant, warm, and friendly ambiance. The treat that impressed my sister and I the most was the ube tres leches! It's milky and has toppings on the side if you choose to put them on. The toppings tasted a bit nutty and it complimented the treat well. I also really liked the ube truffle because I love the rich ube flavor. The ube leche flan cupcake was yummy, but I feel like it could be enhanced somehow. The halo is not authentic, but it appeals to those who may not enjoy beans in their halo. My sister really enjoyed it, but I personally prefer the authentic one. The strawberry calamansi cooler was sweet and tart, but I feel like it could use a bit more strawberry as the calamansi flavor seemed to cover the strawberry. Always down to support/try things in Evergreen Square as it's super close to me and we really do need more options here as I believe realistically speaking only the brunch place and nearby coffee shop gets any decent amount of traffic. With that said, waits are still kind of long, which in part I think is also due to large orders. Came in post grand-opening in the evening as to try and avoid the crowd which ... sort of worked? There was no line to order, but it was still full inside with people waiting for their order. With that no line to order, our order still took ~30 minutes to prepare which kind of definitely sucks for something ideally seen as a pick up and go due to limited seating. I do wish that they went for a kind of beeper system or maybe even a screen to let people know their order is ready as the place is super small and there is really only enough space for ~7 people to wait until you start feeling cramped inside. Lots of people did end up waiting outside and yes, I appreciate the worker going outside to call names when they didn't pick up their drink, but it also took away time spent preparing the next order. Drinks themselves are at least above average, I would like to say they're pretty good but would need a few more visits to say that. I don't think of myself as an Ube person as I never try to order it anywhere else, but I ended up trying a sip of the Ube Monster and surprisingly, I do want one next time. My coffee milk tea at half sweet was pretty good still(minus being slightly salty when I didn't mix it at first), and I ended up breaking my self-promise not to order boba at places that don't specialize in it. While I do think the boba could have been a lot more fresh, as it was clumping a lot, the texture was nice and it wasn't flavorless. Will definitely be back to try out some bakery items and some Ube-drinks. Their menu has many different options, I got the Zebra latte (dark and white chocolate) and the ube butter bar. The coffee was actually really good and the flavor wasn't too sweet. The butter bar was alright, the ube flavor wasn't as strong as I would've hoped, but I'm still open to try out their other pastries! They're located in the Evergreen Village Square, a smart and nifty choice to do business at if you ask me since the area always has a good amount of traffic to keep business afloat. Plus, it'll attract families being where they're located, in the plaza and by a library with a bunch of other businesses around. Went here on a Tuesday about an hour before closing time (they close at 8), and it was still pretty busy inside. Waiting to order took about 5 minutes which wasn't bad honestly. The cashier who helped me was kind and patient, given how packed they still were. So what really made me wanna come here was their Halo Halo. My family ordered the regular Halo Halo and I got the Upside Down Halo Halo because I wanted the entire base to be ube. I enjoyed the addition of corn flakes and the flan on top. It's not your traditional Filipino Halo Halo I will note, it definitely has a more Americanized kind of twist to it, but I'm here for the Filipino-American fusion of flavors. I will say these guys are more on the sweeter side, in my opinion, when it comes to the desserts. So just a heads up if you're not much of a sweet person. They have many dessert and drink options though where you can return the next time and try something new, which I'm definitely gonna do. At one of the corners of the round about in the middle of Evergreen Village Square lies this small bakery and desserts mostly centered around the ube flavor. For those of you who don't know most filipino americans like me would love to try a cafe like this because it is a fusion of both classic and modern filipino style desserts. They have everything from actual halo halo, coffee/tea drinks, and baked goods such as ube cheesecake, leche flan cupcakes, ube or turon filled pop tarts. Unfortunately, one of the times I came here (a Tues morning) they were only selling truffles, leche flan cupcakes, and ube butter bars. None of the other baked goods were available and it was only 5 min after opening. I was a bit disappointed because I really wanted to try the ube cheesecake. However, I was able to try the leche flan cupcake during this time and the ube butter bar, ube pop tart another time I went. The pop tart was very yummy - served warm with a nice layer of ube filling/butter. The ube butter bar is a nice almost cheese cake like texture with a crust on the bottom. The one thing that I didn't like about was I ordered other drinks as well and they made it and set a side until the halo halo was ready and the other drinks were no longer fresh and diluted with water. I was actually excited to hear that cafe 86 was coming to the plaza. I've been to another location in Mountain View and the taste of the desserts is the same, in a good way! It's mostly desserts and drinks but they do have some sandwiches that I do want to try next time. Note, they only do card at this place at the time I went. I got the ube tres leche cake and ube butter bar from here. Both is super good and the tres leche is a little heavy and rich. The topping they give to put on top is a nice soft crunch to go with how moist the cake is. The hibiscus calamansi drink tastes good as well. You get a good flavor balance between the two without worry of it being too sweet. The workers here were also super nice and willing to answer any questions I had about some of their desserts. I've been to their location in Mountain View; so was excited that they opened a location in San Jose. When we finally made it, we ordered the ube pop tart, turon pop tart, ube butter bar, ube cheesecake, hibiscus calamansi tea as well as the chamoy mango. The drinks, we loved. And saw what people were ordering. I'd like to come back to try the other drinks and the halo halos. As far as the baked goods, I was a little disappointed. The pop tarts fell apart and flavors weren't really there. The cheesecake was a bit too thick and too dense. The ube butter bar was ok. But maybe cos it's still new and haven't found their groove yet. I would probably come back to try their other baked goods and definitely for their drink menu if I were in the area. I came here on a Saturday afternoon because I saw a huge line outside and one of my friends had recommended this place to me. I was pretty excited because I have also heard some good things about this chain down in socal. Unfortunately, this place just did not live up to the hype for me. When you first walk in, you notice that this place is pretty small. Like 10 people could fit in there comfortably before it gets cramped (there's also only seats for maybe 4-6 people). When we got to the front of the line, the cashier was pretty rude. No greeting, was extremely quiet, made a back-handed comment to me when asking for a recommendation. I ended up ordering an ube latte and a few of their other baked goods that I randomly picked out. The ube latte was not really that good. You can barely taste the ube, and the drink kind of just tasted like sweet milk. It wasn't that sweet though, which I could appreciate. Their baked goods were just kind of all over the place. The ube crack was extremely sweet and tasted like straight sugar and frosting. Their bar was shoved into a muffin tin and was also way too sweet for me. Their flan was my favorite as I felt like I could actually taste the ube flavor and the cake underneath was moist. Also, this is super nitpicky, but the menu placement just doesn't make sense. It's on the right side wall and isn't visible until you are basically at the front of the line. This would be fine if they had additional menus that I could look at while waiting in line but they didn't have those either.
