A cozy spot tucked away, This is one of those true hidden gem L.A. places. Very low profile, dim light, a place where there has been some celebrity sightings. Real talk, I was told Adam Sandler and Magic Johnson were some of the celebrities that have stopped by amongst others and once you step inside you'll see why to with how low profile it is. But this spot does get busy in the evenings and even during lunch time. There are regulars who seem to frequent it here, and because of how obscure it is I totally see why. I finally made it over to Café Angelino and honestly... why did it take me this long? This place feels like a little Italian escape tucked right into LA. We started with the assorted charcuterie board and it was such a solid opener, all the cured meats were super flavorful and the herbed pizza bread they serve it with is dangerously good. For my mains, I tried the Parmacotto pasta and the Chef's Special. The Parmacotto was creamy, rich, and comforting without being heavy, and the chef's special came with these tender slices of New York strip that made the whole dish feel next-level. You can tell everything is made with care and really good ingredients. We ended with dessert and it was the perfect sweet finish without being overly sugary. Between the cozy vibes, the attentive service, and the food being consistently chef's kiss, this spot definitely earned a spot on my LA favorites list. The shrimp diavolo was saltier than salt itself, and the shrimp was so overcooked it was hard to even bite through. The manager there has a VERY nasty attitude. I just started working in the area. I ordered food via uber eats for lunch, from a different restaurant. They forgot to get me a plastic fork. So I jumped in my car to go to a close by restaurant for a plastic fork. Most restaurants around here don't open til 5:00pm. I saw Cafe Angelino was open and I pull up in front in my Mercedes. The manager is outside waiting on someone on the patio. I walk inside and tell them what happened and kindly ask for a plastic fork. The manager walked up and is giving me a weird look. The manager comes over and is fussing and saying YOU ARE NOT A CUSTOMER SO YOURE ASKING A LOT. I said, I'm new to the area, so I haven't had a chance to try all the restaurants out. He said ok I'll give you a CUP OF ICE this time but never again. I said this is not a reoccurring thing, I am at my office and needed this just this one time. He scoffed at me and walked away. Stopped by Café Angelino on a warm Friday night and was greeted right away with a warm welcome and quick seating. The owner was incredibly friendly and offered us wine and appetizers right off the bat--such great hospitality. We ordered from the chef's specials and everything was delicious. I had the pesto pasta and branzino (thanks to their Insta!), both were perfectly prepared. My daughter loved her lemony prawn pasta, and my husband's custom clam linguini in white wine sauce was spot on. Dessert was bomb--the crème brûlée, tiramisu, and bomba left us totally satisfied. This place is absolutely terrible, barely edible if you are really hungry. Their Bronzino is the worst I have ever had, ever. They do not know how to cook fish, it was not moist in the slightest, they grilled it to the point of indecency so it was tuff. I have been coming here for 25 years and the food always used to be extremely delicious and was authentic Italian fare - so much so that usually half the clientele in the restaurant at any given time were Italians. We absolutely loved this place. We came again last week after a 10 month hiatus, and were devastated to find the food has changed dramatically. Dishes that we have loved for so long are now prepared very differently and not for the better. The olive oil used to be so delicious, now it tastes like vegetable oil. The Burrata much less oozy, smaller portions, less beautifully presented, less fresh herbs and just lacking the tastiness than it used to have... Is it under new management? The food is classic Italian. It reminds me of growing up in an Italian family where both my grandparents were from southern Italy and Rome. My friends and I were asked to move tables because a bigger party had come in, and they ended up giving us a free pizza which was thoughtful. Such a hidden gem - One of the best Italian restaurants in LA, and possibly my favorite of them all. Delicious food, good portions, calm unfussy ambiance, and incredibly kind service. This is such a rare treasure of an Italian place where the quality and service speak for themselves - no gimmicks, it's not "scene-y", it's just incredible food at a fair (LA) price. And the porcini mushroom pasta always has me desperate to for more. For anyone who is sick of Italian restaurants in LA that charge $30 for a tiny plate of food, this place is such a breath of fresh air. They even give you bread with the meal, which I feel like used to be a staple, but so few places do anymore! Caesar salad - perfection. The dressing is a real classic Caesar made with anchovies (I know that's not for everyone but I personally love) and it's just simple with lettuce, parm, and croutons. When I'm craving a classic Caesar, this is what I want. Pennette with porcini - also perfection. It comes in a tomato sauce with porcini mushrooms and it's so delicious, everyone I've had it with is always ready to order more or go back and get it again. Penne siciliano - so good The eggplant is cooked so well and the dried ricotta on top adds such a good flavor. (At some other places, I almost feel like the dried ricotta doesn't taste like much.) I've tried a lot of other dishes here and all have been delicious - it's an extensive menu so it really just depends on what you're craving. They also have a LOT of vegetarian options, which I so appreciate. This is a great place for vegetarians who are sometimes limited at Italian places. They go far beyond a simple pomodoro. Service - they have been so kind and generous every time I've been there, both for dine in and take out. There's a warmth that you don't always see at other places.
