So much has changed since this place first opened for business. It's probably been a good 2 years since I was last here and they seem to have their act together. Here's what I've noticed on my fourth trip... A designated hostess who greets & seats you when you walk in. They've finished out the "back side" of their restaurant and now have ample seating space. There's an outdoor patio area with a beautiful water feature that looks like the perfect place to hang out in the evenings or once the weather turns cooler. This place is conveniently located close to downtown in the heart of Deep Ellum and easy to drop in for a quick lunch without having to drive across town on get on the highway. My co-worker and I split a $5.00 Cesar salad which was more than adequate for two people to share. We originally considered ordering the $10 salad but our server was cool enough to clue us in that we'd be fine with the smaller version. If you happen to be a fan of white anchovies, they will serve them with this salad (on the side), but you have to request them. I would probably order this salad just for the anchovies alone! They have about 20 different choices of pizzas so be prepared to do some soul searching. We settled on the Paulie Gee which was a bit on the spicy side. We were not disappointed. The dough is chewy and the ingredients are fresh and you can eat your pizza with your hands or with a fork. No pretentiousness here! Best Pizza in town we were told, so of course we had to try it! We got fortunate and jumped over right around 5:30 on a Saturday night. We were able to get seated right away, but when we left there was a line out the door. We had a great waiter who was training a young lady. He did a stellar job at explaining all about the place and what was unique about their pizza. We opted for a Caesar salad and the Vegetale pizza. Both were very delicious indeed. I was pretty disappointed in my visit to Cane Rosso and would definitely recommend other pizza spots around Dallas. I made a reservation two weeks in advance and asked not to be seated at a small two top in a corner. First thing they do is take me to a two seater in a corner. I explained to the host that when I made the reservation I asked them for a different table. The manager comes over and says, "whats the problem," I explain again and then they relocate us to a different two seater in a different area. Annoyed, we decide to sit and order. They had plenty of open larger tables the entire time we were there. The music was also so loud, I was practically yelling at the person in front of me. LUNCH TIME EXPERIENCE For those near Downtown Dallas, Cane Rosso is a great option for lunch, parking is free (until 6pm on weekdays) on the streets and most parking lots in the area so it's an easy in and out. Additionally, most trollies and busses can get you there from the major corporate buildings for less than $2.00. ATMOSPHERE: For downtown its good. Patio is small but nice and they can accommodate larger groups. Has a tendency of being loud though. APPETIZERS: The Focaccia is hands down the best bread/olive oil combo out there. The fresh olive oils and rosemary soaked into a fresh baked focaccia pizza dough are a must. Sometime I think I could just order 2 of those and call it a meal. PIZZA: Different than some of the other pizzerias in that the dough is great and the toppings offer different flavors, but to me they are missing some of the traditional veggies that I occasionally like on a pizza. If your not into different flavored pizzas, Cane Rosso may not be the place for you. If you want something different from your pizza Cane Rosso is worth a try, but be ready to pay for it. I recommend any of the pizzas with bruschetta. It is cut nice and thin with a great salty flavor. It would be a 5 star experience, but service is a little slow. Likely because they are making the pizza fresh in the oven, but when your there for lunch, time is important. Pair that with the price and somewhat limited topic options and I can only give 4 stars for a lunch experience. I came in after seeing this place on instagram. The picture looks delicious so I had to come in. It's located in Deep Ellum so of course you have to pay for parking. Super easy to find though. I ordered the Honey Bastard pizza, which is located off the menu , aka the secret menu. The pizza is huge and enough for two people! The meat and crust on this pizza is delicious. I'm not really a fan of thin crust but it was so flavorful I nearly forgot about the crust. We ordered it and it came out instantly. Which was great because I was starving. I came here with a group of 5 for someone's birthday party. We paid $20 for parking across the street. Our server took a while to take our drink orders. Then, quite some time later, our server came and aggressively asked us "Did you want to order". He took our order, then walked away. My order came out first. But I had to wait almost 10 minutes before the rest of the food came out. It felt awkward being the only person at the table with my food. We were never offered refills once, and most of us had water. We had to eave down someone to get a water refill. Upon doing so, our server would set our cups down very hard on the table. Everyone else's food finally came out. However, a bread order did not come out until we had to ask for it, after the server had asked us if we wanted boxes, because we had enough time to finish our food at that point. The server brought our check and just put it all on one. We had to ask the server to split it. The server put my order on its own ticket, and grouped my parter with their cousin, and vice versa. Once it came time for us to pay & tip, our servers energy changed and started complimenting little things and being more friendly, unfortunately. The artwork/vibe of the restaurant was very confusing. I saw plenty of pieces that looked like they were bought from Spencer's, and contributed nothing to the overall the overall or experience. The only reason I am giving this place 2 stars, is because THE FOOD IS AMAZING. I don't know if this place is setup for delivery, but if you can do takeout with this place, you should. The pizza was by far my favorite thing I ate that day, it was amazing & I'll surely be having it again soon! The environment is very relaxed compared to some other places we walked by in the area.. at least on a Sunday. The only down was that when we walked in the hostess told us "Because you didn't make a reservation you'll only be able to sit for 90 minutes" or something like that. Might save the lightly charred crust for a side of habenaro honey.!! (Pro tip) One google review mentioned "great place to watch sports" ... not so fast! There was only 2 TVs in the joint. I came here with family after a long day at the park. We ordered the Brussel sprouts, two Honey Bastards, and the Friday night Frankie and for dessert, the lady bird! The Brussel sprouts smelled a bit funky but they were oh so delicious! We added a bit of crushed red peppers to make them a bit spicy Out of the two savory pizzas we had, the best one was the Honey Bastard. It has a honey habanero glaze that just makes it taste out of this world, I definitely recommend ordering this one! The Friday night Frankie was also delicious, the tomato sauces was tasty, and it was well seasoned! If you still have room, don't pass up the lady bird! It's so delicious! It's sweet but it's not too overpowering! Definitely the best dessert! Also, our service was incredible! Definitely one of the better pizza places in Dallas. Came to have dinner with a friend on a Tuesday night. Neither of us had any trouble finding a close parking space, and we got seated immediately. We ordered the Luana and the Prosciutto e Rucola. The Luana was good (loved the pieces of fresh mozzarella) but a little on the salty side. I really enjoyed the prosciutto pizza with all of it's garlicky goodness. I do wish that the crust on the pizzas was crispier. They served the pizzas on normal plates (as opposed to stone or something with holes to allow air through), which made the crust soft and soggy pretty quickly.
