I've considered CQ to be one of the best spots in town for outdoor dining for a long time. When we had friends visiting from out of state recently, we decided to take them to this gem. Surprisingly, even though we arrived around 6pm on a weekday, it was about an hour wait for an outdoor table, so we ended up eating inside. You can still enjoy the great views from in there, though. I got the fish tacos and they were delicious. I also had a margarita which was a unique take on it, very sweet and juice-like, but yummy. Fantastic location, good food, friendly service. Large venue with a lot of parking. We had the burger and fried cod. The burger was really good and they toast the bun. The cod was hit or miss, one was good the other was sent back. We went on Sunday at 1300 and were immediately seated. Our sever Abby was great and checked up on our party of 4 often. It wasn't crowded but it still took 45 minutes to get on orders and another 10 to get another fried cod plate. The view from our inside table was great and helped pass the time. Captain's Quarters is definitely the place to go for patio dining. Located right next to the Ohio River the restaurant has a huge open seating area and lounge chairs for people to use. I have been a customer here for many years and find the food and drinks to be delicious. One of our favorite pastimes is coming here in the summer and getting a bucket of the peel and eat shrimp. Simple and delicious. They often have live music as well which adds to the fun atmosphere. There is also an inside bar area and dining area for those who do not enjoy being inside. read more

Firstly, the staff deserves 5 stars for great service and friendliness. And of course it's a scenic location, especially at sunset. But the food? Really...really awful. Fourth-rate bar food at best. What happened to this place? Lunch, dinner, doesn't matter--the menu's the same and packed with one bad creation after another. We've been to Captains Quarters several times and the thing that keeps us coming back is the view!! We've only ever been for after dinner drinks, so I can't comment on the food. The ambiance is amazing. Situated right on the river, Captains Quarters has an amazing huge patio. If just grabbing drinks, like we usually do, there are plenty of Adirondack chairs on the lawn to move however you'd like. We were greeted and seated immediately. Because it was a cold night, we did not sit outside but were seated at a table by the huge windows. At this table we could watch the sun set unencumbered by the heads of others. We didn't order any appetizers because I wanted to get dessert later. My North Atlantic Cod served "Low Country Style". The Low country style preparation consists of frying the fish and serving it with Charleston (non-spicy) etoufee, smoked gouda cheese grits and collard greens. Instead of having the fish fried, I had it grilled. I did not substitute anything else. For dessert, we got the Ultimate brownie sundae. The menu said it was enough to share and OMG, was it. The dish was actually 2 brownies (not served warm :-( ) with 2 scoops of vanilla bean ice cream. Everything was drizzled with fudge and caramel sauces. The 2 brownies were sliced diagonally and placed around the plate which made them appear to be a lot of brownies. The ice cream scoops were placed inside the bpeople. s. The best part of Captains Quarters is always going to be the outdoor seating area. It's a fun place to sit outside with a glass of wine, listen to music and watch the boats go by on the Ohio. We were initially told 50 minute wait for a Saturday night and didn't mind needing to wait at all. Our table was ready in about 30 minutes and our waitstaff was good. The only downside was the food. It was just ok. If you are planning to go for a a great view and place to relax, this is your place, but don't go for the food. I had the Guinness battered fish tacos, which I was very excited to try after seeing the plates of fish around me, but what I got did not compare. My date Linda and I shared the "not to be ignored " delicious green chili wontons appetizer while conversing and sipping our drinks. I then had the chopped oriental salad with the ahi tuna cooked rare and served with the house made cucumber wasabi dressing. I managed to make one more burger week stop. The burger was the crabby crawler. I gave my crab and arugula to her of course. We were disappointed that the crab in the crab salad was surimi. I thought an upscale place like this would have some real crab in it. The beef was waygu which had great flavor but like other high grade beef was a little dry. Of coarse I did get it well done. Her onion rings were good sweet onions and the coating was well seasoned. However she did not like the grainy texture. The best part of the meal was the cheese grits. They we absolutely perfect. Very tender without being mushy. The cheese was present and pleasant in every bite. It was a complex cheese flavor maybe a blend. The garlic in it was delicious and there was just enough butter swimming on the edges but it wasn't greasy. The service was attentive. We came here for a birthday dinner and got the fried banana peppers (4 stars - hard to cut) and tuna tataki (4-stars - missing something, can't figure out what). I had 4 Kentucky lemonades so I have to give those 5 stars. I like CQ and I've always liked CQ! My ratings are primarily for the view and ambience but their food has always been good. I can't say I've had anything that I didn't like. After that I went with a light beer and a water. We also ordered their special calamari appetizer. It was really good! I had dinner here last week, typically I don't write reviews but I guess will start doing that now since it's important. I like this place a lot and I decided to take my wife for her first time we waited for 30 min for a table but instead we decided to get a table by the bar since we thought it was easier and honestly we were hungry. Our experience there wasn't great this time our girl server only came twice to our table and when we got our food she just never showed up, food was cold and we saw her chatting across the room with everyone but never came back to ask if we were doing okay. 10 min later a guy came back and I just decided to ask for to go box and the check. Stopped by Captain's Quarters for a late lunch the other day with my boyfriend's family. We order some of the queso, which we all really enjoyed! I would definitely recommend getting it as an appetizer. I also had their sangria as a cocktail and it tasted really good! However, no one really enjoyed their entrees as it seemed like everything was microwaved (at least the pizzas and lobster Mac and cheese). The salads looked okay but way overpriced for what they were. One thing I love about Captain's Quarters is the outdoor atmosphere. It really can't be beat! Our service was also pretty good. We had to ask our server for every single thing and had to flag her down over and over she didn't know how to save steps or do any table maintenance. You had to ask for refills every single time.
