I was really excited about this new spot when I heard it was named after Shuk Ha'Carmel market in Tel Aviv, my old neighborhood. I went a few times and brought more friends to try it out. The second I set foot in there I felt like at home. The atmosphere is really nice, the food is exceptional and completely different, which is really nice for a change cause I got bored of the same old menus LA restaurants have to offer. We were asked several times if there was anything that was needed, everybody was very attentive, and several people told me happy birthday when we checked in. For food, we ordered the mushroom cigar, the bread, the hanger steak kebab, and the Red Snapper schnitzel. The hanger steak came with Bread, so although the two breads were different, it was just a lot of bread and very filling. But the steak itself was to die for! The red snapper schnitzel was delicious, but not my personal preference/taste, as I don't like fried foods. Same thing with the mushroom cigar. This place was buzzing on a Tuesday night, completely packed. People always say LA can be so dead compared to NY, not this place. The whole place was packed AND service was still amazing. My friend and I said efficient, sometimes we felt the moment we finished something someone was there to remove a plate but we did not feel rushed. We had a reservation for 8 o'clock, but a table wasn't ready, so they offered us seats at the bar or the chef's counter while we waited. We were seated 10 minutes later, and a waiter came over to give us the rundown. Another waiter then started to do the same, but we stopped them when they explained it was training for another waiter. The bread was incredible--20/10, very similar to Elephante but even better. They also brought out mock shots, which were really good, super sweet and fruity. The Bluefin Tartare was decent, 6/10. The Batata-Ksbia Tortellini was INSANE, one of the best pastas in LA. The spaghetti was fine but really spicy. The Biscuit Cake 2.0 was a solid dessert, 6/10. They charged eight dollars for still water. It's important to note that it was really loud in there. Good service overall. Valet parking is available for $15. Excited to go back and try more dishes! Some of the portions were really small and the Hanger Steak kebab was really tiny, especially for $51 (definitely overpriced). I came here for dinner last night. I had a 7:30pm reservation very busy when I got there. Street parking is difficult. They do have valet for $15. The crowd is very mixed lots of couples. The Moroccan frena with tahini matbucha and Syrian olives were very good, Kampanchi crudo was very good and fresh but small, black fig carpaccio with honeycomb, stracciatella, and jalapeño was good and different. The hanger steak was very good for it being kosher meat but it can be for 1 person. The tortellini stuffed with Jerusalem artichoke was good and I liked the lemony taste of the pasta. The knafeh dessert was good. I liked the Carmel margarita and they had a variety of cocktails to choose from. I thought it was a spacious restaurant and they did a nice job with decor. The service was excellent. Overall, it's a great restaurant to come to, especially with a group to try a bunch of dishes it is quite pricey for small portions, but I would come back. You need advance reservations for a Saturday night as it was full. read more
