Great little dining experience on the Haight. My wife had the cubano classic sandwich and it was superb. Spicy mustard and crispy pickles enhanced the delicious sandwich. I ordered the special, can't recall the name, and it was fantastic. It was a type of shredded pork with some yucca as a side. Advertised as a "small plate," but way more than enough for a meal. Both meals were good, bit the highlight was the guacamole and chips. Could've just eaten a few servings of that and would've been happy, waistline not so much. Can't go wrong here. I looooove this place. Every time I visit SF, I insist on a visit here. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, everything I had (paella, mushrooms, cajun shrimp, jerk chicken, mussels, calamari, plantains) was amazing. Get a bunch of dishes and a few pitchers of sangria and you are guaranteed a great time. It gets pretty crowded and loud, so make sure to have a reservation or get there early. But you can hang out with your friends as long as you'd like, just make sure to watch out for the deceiving sangria. Back in the day, this was the place to go for small plates. Hell before tapas and small plates was a thing, Cha Cha Cha made it a thing. I had a friend who was a hostess here too, so there were times of no food and just booze to boot. You obviously cant go wrong with a ton of sangria to start. I've always liked Cha Cha Cha's. I remember the first time I came here was when my sister took me back when I was in elementary school. The sangria tasted awesome and the calamari and mushrooms were the best. That's all I remembered from back in the day. But now, it's my turn to take out my friends and let them know what a great little joint we got here in the Haight and the joy of sharing little dishes, tapas. The sangria is by far the best I've had compared to anywhere else. The only thing about Cha Cha Cha's is the wait and seating. it's not exactly the largest place and the wait can get to be ridiculous at times. Luckily, Haight has a lot of interesting shops to keep people entertained.....bookstores, apparently for some. So after Napa, what better place to go other than tapas and sangria (more alcohol!) I went here with a couple friends to get some tapas, and ordered way too much food. As we were standing at the entrance, waiting for a table to open up (it was a bit too cold outside), we kept seeing plates of food being carried to other tables that just looked too good to avoid. We kept asking the hostess what the different dishes were, then set about ordering them all when we finally got seated. We ordered 8 dishes and a pitcher of sangria between the three of us - like I said, way too much food for us to handle. Unfortunately, we were staying in a hotel, so we couldn't even keep our leftovers, no matter how delicious it all was. My favorite dishes were the Jamaican Jerk Chicken ($8.25), and randomly the Fried New Potatoes ($6.75). I usually wouldn't put potatoes as a favorite, but these were just exceptionally well, I think largely due to the dipping sauce, a chile pasilla aioli, served alongside. We sat around for a well over an hour, slowly eating and finishing off our pitcher of sangria (which was also delicious, by the way), and never once did we feel rushed. It is a tradition of mine to go this restaurant everytime I'm in SF. It is my absolute favorite restaurant ever!! The food is super good and the atmosphere is very chic and hippy! I always have to get the Jamaican Jerk Chicken, the plantain potato things, the chicken wings, and the mussels. I also really enjoy their cajun shrimp! All the food is very flavorful and the sauces are great for dipping your bread! The sangria is a little strong for my taste, but still a great complement to the meal. It was my first day in San Francisco, and I hadn't eaten a real meal since lunch the day before. We had just walked the heck out of the Golden Gate Bridge, and my glycemic index was crashing fast (along with my sunny disposition). Someone suggested Cuban food, and I despaired, with visions of pork-laden menus dancing in my mildly delirious head. But, luckily for me, my mildly dizzy vision cleared long enough to see the glorious words FRIED PLATANOS MADUROS. Ruggy said this was the place to eat even though he had yet to eat here. Well I guess yelpers were right because man it was good. Between he, Christina, and myself, we ended up ordering almost the entire tapas menu. We started with ceviche, which was super fresh and delicious. We also got the pork quesadillas. They were served with salsa, guac, and sour cream. ZOMG they were amazing! I definitely ate more than my share! Ruggy said the grilled chicken wings were delicious too. Christina ordered the fried platanos maduros tropical sweet bananas with black beans & sour cream. They were amazing! We also got the black mussels that were in this delicious broth. If i lived closer, I'd be here the calamari and drinks. My friends and I ordered the Fried Calamari and Fried Platanos Maduros, which basically is fried tropical banana with black bean and sour cream. Although I don't like fried bananas much (the taste of mixing something naturally sweet with something salty is weird to me), I tried this just because I was here and I've never had Caribbean food before. The vibrant culture and ambience of this place would actually be probably my second favorite part of this restaurant, after the fried calamari =) The Fried Calamari was fried to perfection, with a side of tartar sauce. There's a bar in the back, which is often packed. The sangria was pretty delish, but I'm more of simple wine kind of person, so I ordered pinot noir...which I prefer drinking out of a wine glass. I didn't think a warm spinach salad would be delicious, but the simplicity of salad added with bits of bacon, yum. I'm tired of cold salads now. Fried New Potatoes -- they were delicious but definitely not something I'd order again just because I'm not a big starch person. Steamed Black Mussels -- my favorite! I absolutely was OBSESSED with the broth. It was great for dipping bread after you devour the scrumptious mussels. You probably come here, also, because you're in the Haight and you're slightly too old to eat standing up, and this place has tables, chairs, and all, so by Haight Street standard, this place is pure luxury! After hearing an acquaintance tout Cha Cha Cha as a great tapas place, my friends and I had rather high expectations of the restaurant. Our party of three walked in and were told that the wait for a table would be about 20 minutes -- only it turned out to be more like an hour (the place is rather small and fills up quickly on weekends). The host kept insisting that it would be "just a little longer!" We were hoping that the food would be good enough to justify the wait. Unfortunately, though the portions were reasonable for the price, the quality was lacking. My chicken paillard was altogether *too* rich and greasy, and even with plentiful gulps of water in between, I couldn't get through half of it. Meanwhile, my friend felt that her chicken quesadilla was too dry, and her boyfriend pronounced his meal of rice and beans to be average. It's surprising that we didn't take to the food, considering how hungry we were by the time we finally got seated. The drinks (sangria!) and the interesting decor were the only good parts about this place. I suppose if they had half stars, I'd give this place 2.5 out of 5, but as it is, I don't see Cha Cha Cha being deserving of a full 3 stars. read more

Having taken a Benadryl (or three) prior to rallying myself to go to dinner with the bf and a childhood friend of his in town for the night, I then proceeded to make the questionable decision to down multiple glasses of sangria at Cha Cha Cha on Haight. Well, decision-making does not really come into play with me and drinking sangria, because it would be more likely that you would need a special electromagnetic holding cell to keep me from drinking sangria rather than me simply electing to have a glass (or five). As tends to be the case when I am severely loopy, I got very quiet and introspective and decided to write my Yelp review in my head as we sat at dinner. Given the light of day and having been taken away from clutches of the sangria/Benadryl 8 ball, I now realize that it perhaps wouldn't have been the most useful of reviews. Anyhoo, definitely a different crowd than the Mission Cha Cha Cha, and perhaps not as cool or cool-seeming, but I am happy to have good tapas and sangria within walking distance. My favorites at Cha Cha Cha seem to be the guava marinated chicken wings, blackened and tasty, and the calamari, which I know is a bit of a cop out, because how can you go wrong with deep fried rubber bands? Nice ambiance overall... but we go seated in the back of Cha Cha Cha near the dirty dishes... but got over the smell quickly when our food came. What we got and always get: Chicken Paillard - cooked in a creamy sauce great for dipping the complimentary bread with! Cajun Shrimp - also cooked in a delicious creamy sauce perfect for bread dipping! Don't you dare let them take this and above mentioned plate away just because the meat isn't there anymore! You've gotta soak up all the sauce! Fried Calamari - crispy, crunchy, good. Fried New Potatoes - oohh, these are great. Crispy on the outside and temperature hot on the inside! Sauteed Mushrooms - this was my fav! The mushrooms are succulent, the sauce is garlicky and a little bit spicy. This also has a great sauce for bread dipping! I have been coming to Cha Cha Cha for years. Its one of the places my friends and i would come to when I was in high school and my late teens. We thought it couldn't get any better than this. I still come here a few times a year. It always brings back fond memories. As an adult, or "young' adult, I enjoy the sangria here. As for the food the quesadillas are amazing! I went here for dinner today for the first time. After being told the wait for a table was going to be an hour, we went to the bar instead and were seated immediately. Its a busy place, and lots of fun. The food is ok, but the atmosphere is entertaining. Food: Tapas, tapas, tapas! Go for the tapas, and prepared to get drunk off the real sangria they serve. The tapas are satisfying, and unique. I'm not sure what to say about the flavor. Its there, and its not, depending on what you get. Vibe: Exciting, Cuban, however very busy. I wouldn't really go there on date, but I would go there with friends on a night out. I'd prepared not to have seat either, since it gets pretty busy, full, and loud. I'm in the Haight.. what place has the perfect combo of all 3? Cha Cha Cha's!! No point in waiting for a table, just walk on back to the bar and put your name on the list.. Make sure to order a pitcher of Sangria while you wait... The wait is never long, at least not when I've been.. We're seated! See not long... We order the Cajun Shrimp - sauteed in spice cream sauce.. creamy, rich, delicious.. You must soak your bread in the sauce and... enjoy! Fried New Potatoes - with aioli - anything with Aioli is heavenly! Fried Platanos Maduros - See here's the thing with this dish.. Platanos are not in season all year round.. They're always available but if it's not their season then they don't come out sweet - well at least that's what my Tia told me and I believe her! I LOVE Cha Cha Cha! I have been here at least a dozen times and I never stop loving it. The sangria is really really good, beware it will knock you on your ass if you don't pay attention. I'm a fan of anywhere you can order drinks by the pitcher! The tapas are always great. I have a preference for the seafood dishes including the mussels and calamari. The ambience is amazing, this place is dark and full of eclectic shrines giving the whole place a santeria and voo doo feel. In fact I realized the atmosphere is why I like this Cha Cha Cha so much better than the one in the mission. Just be prepared to wait in line! I came here a while back for one of my friend's birthday dinner. I remember the experience being mediocre and the food was rather different because I didn't really know what to expect. I ordered a few things to share because I wanted to try everything. I think I got the fried calamari, saute mushrooms, the black mussels and bbq chicken quesadilla. Mushrooms were delicious, juicy, and flavorful. The black mussels were rather janky, I felt like most of them either fell out of the shell or it was really small, between me and my friends I think we found way too many empty shells. The quesadilla was just mediocre. And the calamari was mediocre as well. I think eating here requires you to try all their "specialty dishes" . So all the things you can't pronounce on the menu, order it! I will have to come back here sometime to do that. Then I'll write a more accurate and up-to-date review. read more

This place is sort of like a staple of Haight St. You can't really miss it due it's corner location and its immense popularity among people who flock to Haight. There's always a crowd in front of the restaurant, which is always a good sign (generally). The atmosphere here is always great and has a real lively vibe. I can't really explain the decor but it's def interesting to say the least. The restaurant is broken into two parts, one being the dining room while the other part being a bar. The dining room really isn't that big and can probably accomodate 20-30 parties depending on the size. When I came here last weekend, parties of 5 were sat at some little ol tables. Luckily my party got a booth. Although it wasn't as much room as I would like it to be, I don't think it was uncomfortable. The food here was pretty good, I generally don't get too excited for food but most of this stuff was pretty tasty. I was feeling the mussles along with the calamari. I'm not even a big fan of seafood either. Although the portions look small at first, they are actually extremely filling. Definitely don't allow your eyes to get bigger than your stomach cause I was full after a few plates. It's cool to share family style so you can try everything you want to try. No more asking your friend for some of their plate, especially if they are shady and won't give you one measly french fry hahah jk. The first two times I came here were on a weekday night so the crowds are obviously smaller and the wait for a table is shorter than on a weekend. Be ready to wait for a table on the weekend, sometimes up to a hour and a half. I think my party waited for 45 minutes. Parking in Haight isn't wonderful either but here's a lil tip. Just park in Golden Gate Park and walk a little. You'll enjoy the nice stroll in crisp SF fog back to your car. The Sangria here is great and a famous staple of Cha Cha Cha. Get a pitcher with your friends and get super hyphy. It might look like some weak shiet but it will get you twisted for sure. Overall, check it out and then go down to Amoeba to pick up some CD's. Best Sangria ever!! The food was pretty good too. Yes, I do agree with everyone regarding the Cajun shrimp. It was delicious and very tasty Make sure you get the extra sauce! The roasted pork was a little dry, but the rice had tons of flavor. The steak was a miss for me. No taste and over cooked. Overall the food and drinks were a 3 stars for me. However, their service needs work.... a lot of work. The waitress was rude and bitchy. She forgot a couple of our orders and this is after we had to repeat it twice. 5pm on a saturday. After a long day of early morning flight to SF and cycling through the city, my friends and I ended up in this joint. The Wait: We came in at the busiest time and waited for about 1.5hours but knew the wait was worth it. There aren't any waiting area but we didn't quite dress adequately for the dew-forming cold temperature so we tried to wait inside. I was standing underneath an ivy(?) leaf pot, and had leaves slapping my face for an hour. It was an addition to the experience. What I Had: Sangria - great! a must. Steamed Black Mussels - sop up the broth with bread! a must. Ceviche - shrimp, squid and scallop. pretty good, nothing too special. Lamb Chop - great scent! knife required. Went to Cha Cha Cha on a double date this past Saturday and shared the following: - Pitcher of Sangria: delish...nice and fruity the way I like it - Cajun Shrimp: my favorite dish of the day...we cleaned up every last drop of sauce with the bread...yum! - Fried Calamari: the batter was perfect and not heavy like many places make the mistake of doing...we really enjoyed this dish - Fried Platanos Maduros: meh...the plantains could have been more crispy but it was still good with the black bean sauce (I usually hate beans but thought the sauce complimented the plantains well) - Sesame Crusted Salmon: fish was tender and cooked just right. However, can they be any more stingy with the cheese sauce? And why so much rice?? - Seafood Paella: mmm...one of the best paellas I have had in a while. The rice was cooked to perfection and very moist but not mushy. There was plenty of seafood that was cooked well. This was a ton better than what I remembered it to be when I went a few years ago. So glad I tried it again. My sister got there around 5:30pm and put our name down for a table. A booth opened up just as my boyfriend and I arrived around 6pm. The place was 90% full then so definitely arrive early especially if you come with a bigger group. Note that they will not seat you until the entire party is there so tell your friends no Asian time unless they want everyone else to mean-mug them. Also, I don't recommend going with more than 4-5 people since their tables and booths are so small. The bill came out to be $30 per person which is what you usually pay for tapas and drinks. Stop by to have a nice big pitcher of sangria with some friends while in the city. It was perfect quick service great atmosphere no wait at all . Sangria was Amazing . Looking forward to coming back and trying some of the food! read more
