I've had one okay experience here and one horrible experience at this location. The first time I came for dinner. It was very busy! I had the Peruvian fried rice, shrimp, and octopus plate. The dish was very hot and tasty. The service was sub par. The waiter acted like he didn't want to be there and was annoyed that we spoke only English. I'm sorry that I speak the major language of our home country! I decided to try this place a second time because the food was very good. It was bad idea on my part. We were seated quickly, however was never served in the restaurant. I wait 15 minutes for service before I finally got up and left. The party I was with never received a hello or had water brought to our table. We had servers walking back and forth ignoring us at our table and the place wasn't busy. There were only two other tables filled in the whole place. Again we were treated differently for speaking the language of the country we live in!!! Such a disappointment!!! read more

While I'd love to rate this place 5 stars for how much I love their food and sangria; I can't. Their ceviche is consistently wonderful, I love the food, but the service is always awful!! My friends and I were sat right away after they wiped a table down, handed us menus....and that concludes the extent of our service. We were never greeted properly by a server, a guy dropped off bread and butter without blinking and eye or saying hello, or offering water and after 15 minutes I couldn't take it any longer. We got up to leave, the woman who sat us asks "Where are you going?? Why are you leaving?" .... I told her "we've sat for so long without water, food or drink offering, i can't sit all day long" and proceeded to exit and she continued calling after me while we were leaving..... I'll have to order take-out when I'm in the mood for ceviche. Maybe it's my luck? But every time, it's the same story. Don't expect to be wowed by the service. Go with patience. read more

We consider each Miami vacation successful and complete after a meal at Chalan on the Beach. We go for lunch, but eat like kings. The crusty, warm bread with HOT sauce starts us, along with a bottle of excellent, well priced wine (try blanc des blancs white blend from Peru, a light, dry wine, perfect with seafood) We always order Tacu tacu with grilled fish in garlic sauce. I told our server I'd have it for Christmas dinner if I could. She laughed, but it's true. Beautifully cooked -- lightly breaded and grilled-- bass with a buttery tasting tomato garlic sauce melts in your mouth. Tacu tacu is a cake (plate-sized!) made of rice and white beans, seasoned perfectly and sautéed. Heaven in Miami. A bottle of wine and 2 entrees with lots of leftovers was under $60. Not fancy, but with excellent service. Staff is very knowledgable and pleasant. We will go again before we leave town, and will return every visit. It's a must-try for all. read more

Went on a Sunday night at 9. It was packed but our party of 6 only had to wait about 15 minutes to get seated. Place is definitely casual so no need to get fancy. Great restaurant with good location. I ordered the chaufa mixto with extra shrimp instead of steak. It was absolutely delicious but the portion was good for 3-4 moderately hungry people!!! We were living in the holiday inn which didn't have a refrigerator in the room so it didn't stay for long, but it would be great for anyone with a fridge. My partner ordered an Aji de Gallina which he loved (it's a classic), and that was the perfect portion for a great price. Overall, I'd say pretty good food, good prices, good service. Someone from the hotel recommended this restaurant. We were looking for fresh and tasty seafood and wanted something delicious after being disappointed by Puerto Sagua's seafood (cuban rest on 7th & Collins). The food was GREAT! I came to Chalan on the beach over the weekend with my family and had one of the best culinary experiences in Miami Beach. I can truly say that the food was amazing and the service was fantastic. We started with a few appetizers for us to share as recommended by our lovely waitress Merly. She was very attentive, friendly and knew the menu very well. Although the restaurant was very busy, our experience was great all around, thanks to Merly. I had to come to yelp for the first time and review this restaurant. They serve you fresh bread as a starter with a Jalapeño salsa that is to die for! The 2nd time we went there, they were full & almost had to wait for a table but one of the servers remembered us & made a spot for us straight away! It's not that fancy but the place is very comfortable place on south beach. The food is really good. The arroz con mariscos was very good. I will recommend that plate. The ceviche is okay but I've had better. And the plan was pretty tasty. It's more of a causal place and the prices aren't bad at all for the service. The most expensive dish on the menu at $24 has enough fish to feed two. You couldn't MAKE that dish for that cost. The chaufa(fried rice) with steak is smoky and perfect. Absolutely amazing! Best Service I've experienced in South Beach. I've been there 2 times with a party of three. All dishes we ordered were delicious. Big portions, very kind service. Totally recommend this restaurant. One good advice: Make your reservations around 6pm, because if you come later without a reservation, you'll have to wait long time for a table. We're sad that we found this restaurant at the end of our trip, because we'd have been more often here. Also they offer a cheap lunch on weekdays. I've been living in Miami for years and this was my first time at chalan on the beach. Food was GREAT GREAT GREAT, i tried a Lomo saltado and it was awesome... the bad thing is that once i got there a young nice lady offer me the menu and a table to sit, but suddenly an old lady with a colombian accent told me with a REALLY BAD ATTITUDE to sit somewhere else and Not only that but she also took long to take my order... Anyway I am a peruvian food lover and next time i will ask for a peruvian waitress for sure!!!! read more
