Got a reservation online but forgot to ask for a window seat. Called and left a message to have them call back two days before but they did not respond; however they did accommodate us. A young male server with dark curly hair waited on us but I didn't catch his name. He came quickly and we were not ready, went away and didn't come back for 15 or 20 minutes. We asked another server to remind him. He brought me some Luke warm, bottom of the pot coffee. We ordered a crab cake appetizer and two filet mignon. Also a salad to split. I asked for a fresh cup of coffee and my friend was looking at the drink menu. He didn't want to wait for her to decide, left again and began talking To the table next to us who apparently he knew. That went on for another 15 minutes until we asked the person who brought out our crab cakes to remind him about the bread, my friends drink and the salads. All the while he is still visiting and laughing it up with the people next to us. So, our dinner is served, we still don't have our salads, drinks or bread. He apologized and said he was just 5 days on the job. No excuse for visiting and not being attentive to your customers. steaks were perfectly done and delicious! Service was an F. Service....Outstanding! We loved our waiter. Ambiance and view.....Incredibel Food....sometimes good and sometimes not. Manager was very dismissive and rude when we pointed out that the calamari had too much batter, cooked too long and at too low a temp so they were dripping in grease and we could not actually taste the calamari because of the grease and excess batter. I generally frequent the Chart house in San Francisco or Monterey, and have grown fond of the Monterey Chart House; however this Chart House delivered great service similarly. The food was decent -- could have been hotter but overall it was a good selection to meet with my sister while I was in town. It was clean, efficient, and served the purpose. read more

Chart House is always a pleasure. The views, the food, the staff, and the ambience are all top notch. I crave their coconut shrimp more often than I'd like to admit. Normally, I am a bit weary of valet drivers, but the staff here are always professional and cautious. You can rest assured your car will be handled with care. From there, you head inside to a gorgeous room with a view at nearly every table. You're offered an extensive drink menu and the chocolate lava cake (which is a must) that they'll prepare while you enjoy your main dish. Somehow every dish is brought out timely and seamlessly. The staff are so kind and if you're enjoying a special occasion, they'll often celebrate it with you. I've never had a bad experience here, so you really can't go wrong. I'm a long term Laundry member. For years the Chart House has always been a favorite. The ambiance and view are quite nice. Servers have always been great. The valet parking is very nice, helpful, and professional. However......The quality of the food and portions has slipped while the prices have increased. Make a reservation and request a certain table because of hearing challenges and being assured your request would be honored was not unreasonable. It's appreciated. Then show up 10 minutes early only to find that they just seated someone in the table you reserved was upsetting. Front desk attitude about failure to keep their word and blowing you off was surprising. Not what you were expecting. Then later attempting to seat you where there was no chance of hearing each other, just after explaining your hearing needs, showed lack of respect, attention, and we were being unreasonable. We were ready to leave when the manager stepped in, listened and had a suggested solution. After being seated at an alternative, but very acceptable, location was a good recovery by the manager. But then when your Laundry points couldn't be located or applied (having over 100) the frustration increases. After getting home and examining your bill you discover you were over charged, you throw up your hands. Won't say we'll never go back, but it's questionable. read more

Drinks: Pomegranate Martini Chocolate & Bourbon Food: Dozen oysters Lobster & Shrimp Carbonara NY Strip (added mushroom truffle butter) Sizzling Mushrooms (additional) Oysters were great and fresh. The Lobster & Shrimp Carbonara was simply delicious. It was rich, creamy and flavorful. The NY Strip, perfectly seasoned and cooked, paired wonderfully with the truffle butter. The 3 potato garlic mash was a great side, but the real star was the sizzling mushrooms. They were bursting with flavor and paired perfectly with both the pasta and strip. I wished for a larger serving of the sizzling mushrooms, and it would have been ideal for the steak to come with asparagus or green beans at no extra charge. Chart House is a great place to visit for the view. And their website states they have a great HH! Since we were visiting from out of state we had to take an Uber there. Walked in the front door after getting dropped off by an Uber. Was greeted very rudely by Jorge at the hostess stand that informed us that the bar area was full!! And that the wait would be 45-60 minutes and that by that time HH would be over so good luck. He then turned his back on us, rudely and ignored us. Look we are from Houston Texas where people are usually not as rude as Jorge! And this restaurant is in the Landry's Family, really I wonder if Tillman knows how rude Jorge is??!! The bar at this restaurant is located downstairs, so husband decided to walk downstairs to look at the seating and luckily he did as he found us 2 empty seats right at the bar area! Perfect. We had a couple of appetizers and a few drinks. We enjoyed the view and the bartender and waitress in the bar area were nice. But the RUDE greeting from Jorge really upset our overall experience. Please note parking here is only valet. There is free street parking available. The view is great. They have a few places outside that make for great pictures. As for us our time here was not great thanks to Jorge. I have followed the instructions and gone on line and sent an email. Let's see if anyone reaches out to me by phone. Again Great view. We were visiting the Charthouse for our parents 64th anniversary, and it was a very good experience. Some of the highlights deserve 6 stars, but the overall celebration was 4 stars. The food was 6 stars. Wow. Great flavor in all menu items. The Calamari appetizer was a hit for all. I had the prime rib, and it renewed my liking for this choice. (I have had 3 negative experiences previously at other restaurants) One person had the NY steak and it was tremendous. Our daughter had the Macadamia Mahi and it was perfect. Great food. The service was also very good. She was friendly, engaging and very timely. We slowed our experience down a bit as we had asked for more time for our decision making, and we more than ready when she did come for our order. She was terrific. And of course the view is incredible. Such a beautiful setting. The cons: 1) The system of the servers having to go downstairs for a glass of wine. I witnessed our server having to go down for a simple glass of sparkling wine. This causes drink deliveries to be slow. There needs to be a better system. Drink runners utilized or wine brought up to the main level. 2) One of the female hosts never stopped playing on her phone. Since my view was directly at this area, it was quite distracting to see this. And the friendliness level could be better by the front staff. 3) Finally, I never saw a manager on the floor? Is one even there? It was a good experience, but I can see why it is 3 1/2 stars on yelp. read more

Went for an early dinner for our anniversary. Staff was wonderful and our server, Jeremy, was helpful and very attentive. The view of Portland was beautiful - we had a window table. Just finished brunch service with five of us in our group. It was not a holiday Sunday nor a special event day. Have eaten here before and had good food and fairly good service. Today was horrid. Had five meals and every single one was cold. First off coconut shrimp: cold. Second: salmon eggs Benedict. Cold and salmon was way way over salted! Meal three/ fish tacos: more tortilla than filling. You couldn't even discern if there was fish in there. A handful of fries. This horrible meal for $18. A bowl of clam chowder that had to be sent back because it was tepid and same for the second bowl. It was flavorless and bland, NO discernible flavor. . Fourth meal: hamburger. Barely warm. Fifth meal prime rib, French dip, and it was cold as well. Had to ask for coffee every single time. I know you're paying for the view as well but for the prices charged and how bad the food was today, I am hard-pressed to go back with my family. They've been doing brunch for eons here, so I wouldn't think it would be a surprise if there are a lot of people when they open at 11 AM. you wouldn't have the view, but you would have hotter food, better tasting food, and probably better seasoned food if you just went to a highly rated diner. I've been to chart house a few times, but the most recent was Valentine's Day. We were so impressed with the friendly service and romantic atmosphere. The most memorable dish was the kimchi calamari. My boyfriend is still talking about it months later. The only disappointment was that they had a special Valentine's Day menu, but they were sold out of over half of the options. Everything here was so wonderful. Well, not everything. They have valet parking, which was unexpected, and caused a bottleneck when leaving. We got there right at opening and the servers were still preparing. No one addressed us at all. When we were finally seated, our server was fantastic. From the friendly valet parking young men , the expansive view from the West Hills of Downtown Portland and the professional wait staff our dinner was excellent. The atmosphere is quietly elegant. We were seated right by a window and enjoyed the first drops of rain on our window pane. I know, rain! How pleasing was that to see. Overall good experience. My friend took me and my family to dinner here. It's everything you would expect from an upscale expensive restaurant. Calamari Kimchi is great value and also great taste. I wasn't expecting to see such a huge portion for an appetizer. My table had prime rib, halibut, swordfish, salmon, and ahi tuna. Everything was great, although Ahi tuna could be better. We ordered zero proof drinks and the mint cucumber was so good. Our server was nice and very attentive. For dinner, they only do valet parking only. Great views. Disappointing food. Our server got busy with a big party around the time our meals should have come out, so they sat on the counter for 10 minutes or so and came out lukewarm. Not professional. One dish was supposed to be flambe but was so cold the flambe solution would not light. The crab-stuffed sole was really poor -- overcooked fish and tasteless crab stuffing. We came to Chart House on the 11th to celebrate both a birthday and an early Mother's Day. It was beautiful, sunny day so the view was gorgeous although the room was a little warm. Service was great on a busy day and the food was delicious. Came for my birthday dinner on the 4th of July with a real craving for prime rib. The meat was perfectly cooked, the mashed potatoes were yummy and our server, Logan was wonderful. However, that being said, the coconut shrimp were over cooked and stringy although he crust was good, the asparagus was seriously undercooked and woody and the crime brûlée was grainy with no brûlée anywhere to be seen. We were seated with a great view at the front of the second tier where all the dirty dishes and trays were put with a lot of noise. I tend to come in on Sunday's for brunch. It'd seem that Andrew R is always our bartender and Nery is always our runner. These two are amazing and need a big shout out! Andrew can handle 12 women ordering food and multiple drinks and always get it right. Nery is a ray of sunshine who is always so helpful and always has a huge smile on his face. Delicious dining with an amazing view. I enjoyed watching the sun set over Portland...the sky turning from blue to cotton candy pinks and oranges as darkness fell. The service I received from Austin was excellent. I started with the bread basket and it was ok. Nothing special but not bad. Next up was the crab cake. The crab cake was divine! I highly recommend you order it and savor every bite. The 7 oz filet (medium) and mashed potatoes were good...the meat was tender and flavorful. I'm a wee bit of a steak snob so I can't say it was great but most other people would probably enjoy it. Lastly there was the chocolate lava cake...Unfortunateky there was a long wait, despite ordering it early after the appetizer. Perhaps it was because the restaurant was very busy. My server, Austin, would come by to check on me and apologize a few times before the dessert actually arrived so that was nice. I am physically handicapped. The last time I was at the Chart House in Portland they only had valet parking. My vehicle is specially modified and I cannot allow valets to attempt to drive it. I am invited to a dinner at the Chart House. I have called and emailed to inquire about self parking, but hours later they still have not responded. Chart House is a Portland institution, and even though it is owned by a large corporate chain so the menu is very corporate, the space has one of the most stunning views of the city. I will say the food is consistent and solid with some standouts like their kimchi shrimp appetizer and their salads. Happy Hour is the best opportunity to enjoy the view, the food and libations. Valet parking is nice but you can also park down the street and walk in. Service is usually also consistent and good. A solid place for a beautiful view and a nice experience. read more
