This place is freaking amazing. I came here to order a few pounds of BBQ pork and roasted pig for dinner at a friend's house. They chop it up for you and make it easy to take home. Next time I come here, I will cook rice and have a feast at home. You can also order food at Cheung Hing and eat it there... the tables are small and it's claustrophobic with a long line of other people ordering their meat. Good for a few people but not a group. This week I fell in love with a duck. The diner next to me was served a platter of crispy pork and duck on a bed of rice with cabbage. When it came time for my order, I wiped my chin and pointed to my neighbor's dish that I was adoring with saucer eyes. It was love at first sight. Cheung Hing has the reputation of having the best roast duck in the city. I don't know if that is true, but the roast duck is pretty damn good. It is so moist... juicy even. the skin is nice and crispy. The duck overall isn't too fat; you wont see a big chunk of fat between the skin and the meat. *drooling.... The line is long for take outs, but we ate there. The rice plate and the noodle plates are pretty good deal. In all, we ordered 1 soy sauce chicken rice plate, 1 roast duck & bbq rice plate and 1 roast duck & wonton lo mein, All of that only came out to be $18.61. The lo mean was good. the mein was chewy and not stuck together. And they gave all of us a lot of meat on top of our rice and noodles. Watch out! I bought a whole roast duck from this restaurant from Inner Sunset. When I went home, I found the entered duck breast and half the thigh were missing. They're replaced by meatless rib and bone. Instead of two full duck legs, I got three fragmented legs replacement. So be careful of what you get for what you order. I then reviewed other people's commentaries, I found out there were several other similar complaints about the missing and bad swapping of their purchases. So this was not an isolated case for me only. I can't believe a reputable restaurant like Cheung Hing would cheat people like that while they have quite a good business. You rarely see lines forming outside Chinese take-out places at 3:30 pm but you see them here. Their Chinese BBQ is the best. I like the roast pork and the bbq pork. The duck is delicious too, but too fatty sometimes. I always get bbq pork over rice! One time I ordered it late (around 9PM) and they threw in some random food that they serve like for lunch specials. Like tofu and eggplant... kind of cool.. or gross. We've been coming here to pick up lunches and dinners often for as long as I could remember like over 20 year. Once in awhile they would disappoint. They disappointed us big time the week of thanksgiving. The roast pork was dry and salty, the beef chow fun was soggy and tasteless and the salt and pepper fish was oily and portions were small. I guess they could blame it on high demand. The line was out the door and you could tell they barely kept up with phone orders and cashiering. Oh man this place is legit. It's $7.50 a lb for BBQ pork, roast pork, and under $20 for a duck. So of course get a couple lbs each with some nou mi fan and go home and chow down. Cheung Hing is the best Chinese BBQ takeout joint that I've tried in the city. I first wandered here while going grocery shopping at the Safeway across the street - it is impossible not to notice the line of people going out the door. They have the standard Chinese BBQ fare, like crispy roast pork, char siu pork, roast duck, soy sauce chicken etc. All the meats here are fantastic, and if you order the meat, you get to enjoy the sight of a large Chinese man wielding a cleaver and slicing through connective tissue. Though the BBQ joints on Irving are a bit more convenient to get to, Cheung Hing is my first choice when picking up takeout. Plus the parking here seems to be less of an issue than on Irving. The reason that I cannot give Cheung Hing five stars is that the dine-in experience is pretty mediocre. The menu is devoid of appetizers, the service is inattentive, the hot sauce is incredibly salty, and the tables are of questionable cleanliness. So if you come here, come for the takeout. read more

No need to repeat that the place is not the cleanest place in the world, but come on, it's a chinese duck and pork place! Line was not too long on a weekday around lunch. Communication is not bad as the guy cutting up the meat speaks some English. The only slightly tricky part is that the line that goes out the door is for the cut meat (pork, duck, etc) and apparently you can skip that line if you are getting a plate with rice. Not sure about that, so don't hold me liable! Now, on to the food. I ate some of the pork on the way home and it was really tasty! I'd say as good as I'd had at other places. The duck is still in a holding pattern as I didn't eat it yet, but it looked awesome as he was cutting it up. Overall a good experience and good pork. I usually love the dishes here, but the other day I ordered a roasted duck to-go and the duck was full of fat :( That disappointed me a bit. It costs $16 for an entire duck, which is better than ordering half. I like the stuffed tofu they have and the soy sauce chicken as well. The best roast duck in the bar area bar none! I've been to their other locations but they're simply not as good or flavorful as this location. The duck meat and skin is so juicy and flavorful that it gives you good memories instantly! The cabbage that comes with it is also good and I normally tend to not eat too many vegetables...The rice could be a bit much but ask for extra duck sauce to make it less dry and have more flavor! Parking could vary depending on how lucky you get a space on Noriega st. It's quite busy around this section since there's many Chinese shops and restaurants, and Safeway around there too. The line can get out the door so it's best to be patient, they get to you eventually as they're fast at taking care of people in line. If you're looking for good chinese bbq meats, this is the place! This is literally the only place I go to for my bbq cravings! People standing in line are salivating as the butcher is cutting their meat! LOL! That's how good this place is. They have roasted duck, roasted pork belly, bbq char sui, pork spare ribs, soy sauce chicken and so forth. I don't really go for their cooked food as much but sometimes I'll get their fried stuffed meat tofu dish! You can get their bbq rice plates for 10-12 dollars with rice but you can get cheated with fatty or leftover meats. I honestly think it's probably cheaper to just get a pound of each char sui and roasted pork to go then cook your own rice at home to enjoy for the rest of the week. So for the roasted pork, I'll always ask for the fatty pieces to get the juicier meats and for char sui, I'll ask for the skinny pieces to get all the actual meat! Brought my friend here for lunch one day and as soon as we sit down, he asks what's good here. I told him that the roast duck is out of this world and if he's going to order only one thing here, it has to be that. He goes on to tell me all these reasons why he hates duck. My response was, "this isn't your run of the mill duck. it's Cheung Hing's ROAST DUCK!" After a few minutes of debating, he agreed to try it. Needless to say, after this visit, Cheung Hing recruits another faithful new customer. If this review is solely based on the roast duck here, they would definitely get 5 stars from me. This is my all time favorite place for roast duck. I've been coming here for years and yes sometimes I wait like an idiot for the damn roast duck. No other place in SF makes it better. It tastes o so very good with the plum sauce. I always ask for extras and they usually just give you this one tiny container. O wells better than nothing. This place deserves a five star review just based on their roast duck, which is what they're known for. I've tried a couple of other things here and there, but the roast duck is definitely their niche. It sucks to see the price go from $9 for a whole duck to almost $14 almost overnight, but it's still worth it at the $14. They boast a banner which claims they were voted top 100 restaurants in the United States. Even that yellow sea creature with the big round head and little legs. I don't know what it is... I never had any... I probably will never buy one. But if some was ever chopped up and offered to me, I'd try it and bet it tastes great. I was first turned on to this place about 12 years ago, because a friend said they had the best roast duck in town. I went... had to wait about 25min but he was right... been coming here ever since. The lines are still long. But I'm just talking BBQ. I have no interest in the stuff they got in the warmers... sweet n sour pork or generic stuff like that. I wouldn't even recommend eating in, unless you got a thing for people's butts creeping along the counter to the register, cause thats all you're going to see... while your trying to eat. A unique thing is that this is one of the very few places that offers BBQ Duck Liver, which is excellent for dips, gravies, and appetizer dishes. Cheung Hing should be the standard for Chinese BBQ.
