I came here with a group of friends to celebrate a buddy's promotion. This restaurant is located close to Kaiser and Orenchi. Parking is relatively easy to find as the plaza is fairly large due to it being so close to Kyopo market. The restaurant itself is very spacious and the dine in salad bar is nice where they have an assortment of veggies, radish, popcorn and jalapeños. They also have several tvs going with sports games so you can have something to watch while eating with friends/family. The chicken itself was cooked fairly well, and was very flavorful. We ordered the fried chicken - chibese style, sweet and spicy and buffalo.The mozzarella sticks were so/so and were room temperature which was a tad disappointing. Also, the lights kept on flickering like the place was affected by some poltergeist which dampened the mood and made some of us lose our appetites. We had one of the worst experience on a Saturday night. They ran out of a good amount of beers on tap so I tried a random 16oz beer. We ordered their seafood pancake and the fried calamari and it took way too long before our food was brought out (approx. 30-40mins). They weren't even busy at the time since there were only 3 or 4 small tables occupied. The seafood pancake was okay and the batter was pretty thick with hardly any seafood in it. The sauce that came with it was too sour and zesty. The fried calamari was pretty disgusting and it had a weird yellowish color to it. Closer to 3.5 stars. My buddy for his birthday this year wanted a super chill family friendly casual spot, so Korean style chicken and brews fit the bill perfectly. Chimek, although technically on Homestead Rd faces Lawrence Expressway. On the inside, the space is laid out in a large square with a bar area and large flat screen television against the back wall and several other televisions on the adjoining walls. There are only tables and bar seating. Booths along the walls would be a nice option and would've broken up the one large space feel as well. Around 9pm the lights dimmed giving this a more late night hang out spot feel. We went order crazy and tried pretty much everything on the menu. The standouts for me were the Sweet & Spicy chicken, Garlic chicken, Chinese style chicken, and the Spicy Crispy Fried Chicken. The Kimchi/tofu/pork belly dish was quite tasty and pairs well with beer. Speaking of which, pitchers of Craft Beer are reasonably priced at $19. Sure, I had a major acid reflux attack after my most recent visit here... but it was so totally worth it. I like that their menu isn't a million pages long yet it still offers some good minion dishes to accompany their hero fried chicken. A few visits and you'll have tried everything on it. Beer selection is great in that it's not limited to Hite or OB. However, they seem to run out of certain kinds on the regular, particularly their Shocktop Belgian White and Allagash White. Surprisingly good! We drove by this place a few times and never tried to go in since it didn't look very new. Came upon this place on thanksgiving night actually. They were opened till 1 or 2am. The food was GOOOD. It was in fact great~! They have good portions for their noodle soups (in fact it fed 4 people..). Their cheddar fries was.. probably the best plate of french fries I've ever had. Really. My friends went to town on the wings, so must be really good. I'm not a wings person so I can't say much more than it was flavorful and spicy. Their sake selection is kind of eh though. I've been here twice with friends, once when the shop first opened and second time was yesterday night. I had a positive impression of this place so was excited to come back. However, my recent visit was a bit disappointing-- lack of attentive service, almost empty trays at the salad bar, people were literally scraping what's left of the trays and rice cooker -_-. We were able to get a small scoop of somewhat burnt rice from the bottom. It wasn't even that busy (~9pm), half the tables were filled, yet none of the workers took the initiative to refill the food, until we eventually mentioned to them that there's no rice and a few pieces of salad left. Oh, also, they wrote on the board that happy hour starts at 9 pm but when we asked about it, they said it's actually supposed to be at 10 pm. Nothing to die for but maybe it's because the 2 flavors we choose weren't good (they tasted very similar). I think we got like a garlic one and an asian one. The best part! We went to ChiMek on a Saturday night after stumbling onto a Yelp listing looking for fried chicken. The reviews were few and recent because I think they just recently opened. We decided to give it a chance. From the outside with the dark tinted windows it could pass for a billiard hall or massage parlor. However once you walk in the large flat panel TV's, and comfortable lighting, and casual decor, you could loosely compare it to BW3's. We arrive 20 min after opening (they open at 5pm) and there were already a few tables with folks chomping down on some chicken. The place was pretty large and seating is comfortable. You're not butted right up next to other patrons, like some of the other KFC joints (i.e. 99 chicken, BonChon). Ok now the food, the menu is pretty simple it's mainly chicken and then a few other options. We ordered the garlic fried chicken, came out pretty quickly probably within 15-20min after we placed our order. The chicken was hot (temperature), sweet, crispy, tangy, and garlickly, all as I was expecting. Pretty darn good! For the large order we got a large plate with about 18-22 wing pieces. The pieces are not exceptionally large probably to the mid to smaller size, but with some sides and some beer, it really hits the spot. In addition to the chicken, they have a complimentary salad bar for dine in customers. Rice, macaroni, cole slaw, lettuce, pickled radish, corn, and a few more things I don't remember. We also received a complimentary basket of fries which I must say was the exclamation mark to the meal. I didn't see fries on the menu, but i'm glad we got them, as if the fried chicken gods heard my plea, and sent a messenger from the great fryer in the sky, and bestowed upon me a basket of hot crispy french fries. Service was great, they were available when we needed a server, and not too overbearing. In summary I have to say that there is a new kid on the block in terms of KFC in the South Bay, and they're called ChiMek, good food, good service, comfortable environment! I really wanted to like this place because it's open a lot later and it's closer to my house than the other chicken places in Santa Clara/ Sunnyvale. I've tried it 3 times and I hated it E V E R Y time. It was so disappointing. First time: I came with my sister because she really wanted chicken in the middle of the day. We ordered a small soy garlic to share and I think they got our order wrong because it came out spicy. My sister is a huge wimp and can't eat spicy so we had to ask them to remake it. The nice thing is that they have self-serve banchan so you can load up on pickled radishes. Second time: I came with my friends despite my initial disappointment. We ordered soy garlic and garlic chicken and it was really dry. Third time: I came with my friends again at night because no other chicken place was open. My cousins and I had a good bonding experience through Korean Fried Chicken, budae soup, onion rings and a ton of veggies!!!! I loved the selection that they had and I didn't try the rice because we had ordered so much food. In the salad bar, they had coleslaw, corn, baby carrots, celery, Kim chi, pickled jalapeño slices, pickled daikon, lettuce and something else that I can't remember. They also had free popcorn because they had at least 6 flat screen TVs in there! The drinks are also unlimited!! When the food came out, I had never felt so happy. Yesterday four friends and I decided to go to Chimek to watch the Warriors come back over the cavaliers in game 3 of the NBA finals. I have been coming here for Warriors games for the last two seasons. When I first entered about 30 mins before game time I was asked if I had a reservation. Reservation???? Wow this place got popular. Since I didn't have one and the bar was available I reserved five seats. When the game started the place started filling up quickly and by the end of the first quarter it was full. I liked coming here because of the chicken and beer. Their chicken wings were tasty and quite tasty. But you have to eat them quickly as they harden up when they cool down. Service was fast and polite even tho there seemed to be only three servers. Try the green onion chicken and you won't be disappointed. Their seafood pancake was a little too soft and not as flavorful as other places. I used to enjoy their army soup but have not had the opportunity to try it this time. The unlimited salad bar, rice and popcorn does add to the meal. Wooo! Chicken and beer is as good as it gets! The music playing in the background can get a little loud, but it's a really good place to just chill and catch up with people over some food and drinks! We ordered a large order of spicy soy wings; since it was late, it took about 15 minutes to fry up the fresh chicken. Honestly, the taste was surprisingly good and really addicting. Super super crispy, and just the right amount of spicy and sweet. BE WARNED: these wings are topped with peanuts!! Unfortunately, I had no idea, and they had no idea about my peanut allergy. The only flavor we wanted that they didn't have that night was curry. I guess it is not one of their more popular flavors. For a group of 6, we ordered 2 large plates. You can split your large order into two different flavors which was nice so that we could try the different flavors. We ordered the garlic, soy garlic, Chinese flavor, and sweet and sour. We also ordered a side of onion rings and received fresh fries on the house toward the end of our meal. If you're into fried chicken with sauce, this is the place for you. I still prefer the chicken at Bon Chon though. ChiMek has a self serve station with a salad bar and rice. When i came to the restaurant, i also asked the staff check the orders again, he closed the boxes and let me know that they were not spicy. I love fried chicken so much, so when I was invited to go get some I was like...what diet!? :P But this place is pretty cool, it has a younger vibe in comparison to other Korean style fried chicken joints like Bon Chon & 99 Chicken. My friends and I ordered the spicy crispy fried chicken, the soy garlic fried chicken and the chinese style fried chicken. The chinese was a little too sweet and sticky for my taste. I really liked the soy garlic flavor and the spicy crispy fried chicken was pretty normal, nothing special. For four people this was filling and super affordable, especially since you get the unlimited salad bar and rice. The service was better than 99 chicken but I think I like the wings there (& at bon chon) a little more. I would come back here but it wouldn't be my first choice for korean fried chicken. They do have a lot of drink choices though which is really nice, and they're open late! The chicken. Omg! So goooddd!! This place is definately different form the rest. They have a salad bar on the side for you to get salads or sides! There was lettuce, pickled daikon, corn, carrot, kimchi, macaroni salad, dressings, and rice! The pickled daikon was a great match with the chicken. My boyfriend and I got the garlic soy sauce as well as spicy sweet and they were both delicious!! You could actually see the garlic pieces in the garlic soy sauce as well and they did not taste overpowering. They even gave us free fries to try on the side. The service was a little lacking as they were slammed. We didn't get refills on water. They were out of a lot of beer. The chicken was damn tasty though and that's really what matters. So if you want to try something new, help a new business, eat some chicken and watch some k-pop, this is the place for you. To end this our order arrived @ 9:50pm but the situation made the meal less satisfying. Two gentlemen helped diffuse the problem and apologized for our waitress' mistake. Also to mention she never came out to apologize. Own up to your mistake. It displeases your customers even more. Disappointed by the staff's lack of attentiveness. We truly didn't feel valued but maybe the next visit we will. We'll see. I hope the employees learned a valuable lesson tonight. May they begin to treat their guests with acknowledgement and respect. Customer service needs improvement: be a team and communicate. Flavored chicken was alright. Soy Garlic is better than Sweet & Spicy Chicken. I prefer Bon Chon or 99 Chicken over Chimek. Service was perfect. The place is pretty small though. They just opened, and they still have an area where they could probably fit 2 more tables/seat 8 more people. But it didn't seem like they were having huge lines out the door just quite yet. The food was pretty good. I think it's different from both 99 chicken and Bon Chon. The size of the wings may be smaller than Bon Chon, and they use a different kind of breading. I don't really remember much about the flavors but it wasn't bad. Ordered 5 larges for 11 people and we barely weren't able to finish it. Might come back on my own one day. read more

We walked into the restaurant expecting your average Korean bbq place. Nothing could be farther from the truth. We opened the door, and was met with deep bass music, TVs tuned to football/baseball, and glowing lights. It was like stepping into the Asian neighborhoods of LA. Pretty cool, totally a place to hang out, get some drinks, and catch up with friends! There was a self-serve bar, with kimchi, carrots, white rice, lettuce, pickled peppers and daikon, and.... POTATO SALAD?! Oh well, though it was Costco potato salad, it was still good. Kimchi was out of a plastic container. I can't complain though, it was still really good. Maybe I just have low expectations for kimchi... Service was pretty slow. No, scratch that. Really slow. Waited 30 minutes, eating white rice, pickles, and potato salad. Oh and popcorn. Yes, there was popcorn. When the food came, we could smell the spiciness on it. The soy garlic was ok, but I enjoyed the spicy fried chicken better. My husband and daughter preferred the soy garlic, but my son has the same love of hot and spicy. the chicken was not as great as I expected... But still, it was an overall enjoyable experience. This restaurant still feels rather new and chaotic. The waitstaff looks completely overextended and the floor logistics seem a bit chaotic. Staff is literally running around with food, drinks and dirty dishes - with the electronic music in the background it only makes the scene even more suspenseful and stressful. read more
