Cho Dang Tofu has been on my list to try for quite some time, and I'm glad to check this place off! There really isn't a good list of Korean restaurants on Eastside that have affordable prices for they quality of food, but I think Cho Dang Tofu is definitely one of the better options on Eastside. We paid Cho Dang a visit on a Friday around 7pm and had no wait time to get seated. Cho Dang Tofu is located in the shopping plaza of a nearby Safeway, making parking accessible to the restaurant. During busy times of the restaurant, you may have to park in the shopping lot and walk over. The ambiance of the restaurant is sit down - the restaurant does do takeout orders, but the restaurant itself is cozy and has a decent amount of indoor seating options. I got the Nakdol Bibimbap, which came with some delicious banchan. The banchan consisted of a small fried fish, a wintermelon (? could also be radish) soup bowl, and small dishes of kimchi and fish cake. These dishes were delicious - the fish was fried to a pleasing crispiness, the soup had a comforting and subtle flavor, and the kimchi served as an excellent palate cleanser. As a plus, you can also ask your server for more of the kimchi/fish cake banchan too! For the Nakdol bibimbap, I would say that Cho Dang Tofu is generous when it comes to portioning - this was a hefty bowl of rice and octopus. As a heads up, as good as the flavor was, texture and taste does start to get a bit monotonous after eating half of the bowl. But there is a strong spice flavor and plenty of crispy rice, which is great. The Nakdol Bibimbap by itself is $20, which I think is a pretty solid price given the service and amount of food received. I personally think that in terms of Korean food on Eastside, Cho Dang is one of the more affordable options. I would definitely like to revisit in the future to try their other options (4.5 stars) read more

I'd realistically give this place a 3.5 star review. Busy and efficient restaurant. Service was prompt. Food was not bad. I ordered the combo and got Galbi plus mushroom tofu soup. Galbi was tasty but the texture was a little gummy (I don't know how else to explain it lol). Mushroom tofu soup was tasty, but not the best I've had. I was surprised that it came with white rice (not purple rice) and did not include a raw egg. I was impressed by how hot the clay pot was though. Soup did not go cold!!! The banchan is delicious, and the workers regularly come by and give you refills of them. The best part of the meal is at the end; when you finish the rice and only have the crunchy rice left stuck to the bowl, ask a worker to fill it up with barley tea and you can loosen the crunchy rice and eat it as a snack or with the leftover soup! We normally get to go from here after we stop at Mud Bay, but in our most recent visit we dined in and got the Dolsot Bibimbap, Budae Jjigae, Mixed Tofu Soup! The banchan was delicious, they give you a little fried fish which wasn't too salty, but watch out for tiny bones! My favorite is the Korean bean spouts & cucumbers! I am a big time kimchi tofu soup/jiggae stew. Decided to come here to try as recommended by friends for lunch. First glance at the menu, a pretty good selection of items, such as soups, sides bibimbap etc you would expect from a korean place. I went with the combo that has a hot plate meat and a tofu soup of your choice. Got the Kalbi which is caramelized well, tasted decent but nothing pops. The tofu soup I got was the mixed tofu soup which has some seafood in it. You get to customize how spicy do you like it but I got mild just to try it. Wow, the soup literally tasted bland, majority of them is tofu and probably a total of leas than 5 items of seafood (tiny shrimps and some clams). That's it and $40 pre tax...... The service is decent as we got seated pretty fast as it was just before the lunch peak hours. The restaurant is nice and clean inside but definitely a little cold. The server came by to fill up our ban chan twice but the serving is very small with each refill.. Overall, a very mid experience for a relatively expensive menu. Words around the block is that Cho Dang has the best tofu soup. Good thing, there's a location in my neck of the hood. Basically there's a bunch of tofu soup stews to choose from depending on what protein you want; anywhere from intestines to kimchi to bacon. It comes with side dishes and rice on a hot stone that they'll go around with hot barley tea that you can request to pour over the hot stone rice or maybe take off half of it to the side that way you can some dry rice to eat. They also offer grilled meats and bibimbap on the menu. The soups are pretty personal portions, I'd say that 2 soups and one entree is perfect for 2 people. Came here on random weekday for dinner. The inside of the restaurant is clean and has a modern feel. Immediately when you sit down there are paper menus that also act as placemats! I ordered the bibimbap and my partner ordered the seafood soondubu, both items were around $18-$20. The food was good, but my partner and i agreed it lacked umami and overall flavor. I would've thought the fishes to pack a bit more of flavor but was slightly underwhelmed. Nothing bad, but I personally wasn't wow-ed by the entrees. The real stars were the side dishes in the cute trays! I haven't personally seen a whole fried mackerel at too many Korean restaurants in Washington so it's definitely a treat when we see this! In addition to the fish, there was also kimchi, kimchi cucumber, bean sprouts and potato salad. All very good. What I love about this place is that the sides are unlimited and the waiters are always asking if you need a refill on any sides. This is so appreciated because sometimes you know you get judged for asking for a 4th round of cucumbers, but not here!! A true rating would be more of a 3.5/5 stars but it's a good place for a casual dinner and who can turn down unlimited sides? Oh my GOSH this soondubu is absolutely amazing. If I lived closer, I would come here so often. The banchan includes a full grilled mackerel which is an excellent start to the meal. I've tried the seafood, pork, and intestine tofu soups. The flavors are nicely balanced. The intestine one has a certain creaminess and umami to it, highly recommend! The stone pot rice with the peas on top was delicious. My partner ordered the soybean paste tofu soup. It was not good at all. It was quite the disappointment. A Solid Korean restaurant in Bellevue finally! Probably the best ever (in Bellevue). Unlike Cho Dang's other locations, the Bellevue location feels a bit more upscale and is much cleaner inside. The space is very big and it filled up quite quickly when my friends and I visited (Sunday mid-morning). Service is good and food is above average as well. Prices are pretty ridiculously expensive for what it is but hey, I am just glad we finally have a decent / above average Korean restaurant on the Eastside. I recommend the combo. If you need a quick fix of Korean food in Bellevue, this is a decent option with a limited menu. However, you're paying for the convenience of the location, not necessarily the quality of the food. The restaurant was mostly empty when we arrived and didn't get much busier (which wasn't a good sign). A little piece of home located in Bellevue, perfect for those cold nights where you need a warm meal to fill your stomach. This was my first time here and as soon as I walked in, I noticed the traditional Korean ambience, with sounds of all my aunties speaking amongst customers. Once you place your order, the food is brought out fairly quickly, alongside your banchan (side dishes) The first thing I noted was how small the portions were for the side dishes (we're talking Michelan star plating small) but, I realized that they are diligent about coming around and refilling them as needed. Tofu dishes are also accompanied by the traditional fish on the side I came here with a mission, to try their intestine tofu soup, and that is exactly what I ordered. It was served bubbling in the traditional stone bowl, alongside the rice that was also served in the dolsat (stone) bowl. Pro tip- when you get your rice, they'll also bring you a empty bowl. This is so you can scoop your rice into the bowl, and then they pour barley tea into the stone bowl, so you can scrape the scorched rice from the sides and bottom of that bowl to enjoy (this is called noo-roong-jee) Tofu soup was delicious, flavorful, and the intestine was cooked nicely so there was no gamey scent whatsoever. I went with "medium spice" and it was plenty spicy and I tolerate spice very well so be forewarned! They do also have other dishes on their menu in addition to tofu soup and I look forward to trying those out! We got the chicken thighs bulgogi with seafood tofu soup combo. The chicken thighs had good savory flavor and were cooked to perfection but a bit on the salty side. Seafood tofu soup was perfect- hefty portions of tofu, flavorful fresh shrimp, clams, and oyster, not over salted. We also got a hot stone bibimbap. The rice was so crunchy and the vegetables were perfectly seasoned and cooked! Not oily and was almost flavorful enough without the gochujang they provided. Banchan- I liked their cucumbers, kimchi, and bean sprouts, but the fried fish and fish cakes were too oily/salty for my liking. Perfectly cooked though. Barley tea was delicious. 10/10 that's all there is to say about it. Overall, if you're going to come here look to spend $15-$25 unless you get a combo, in which case it's more but would likely be split between a few people (I hope). This place is awesome! Cho-dang has perfected soft tofu soup. You have unlimited ban-chan (side dishes), see photos below. Ate seafood spicy soup, kalbi & hot stone bi bim bap. Spicy seafood todu had plenty of seafood & you can customize the spice level. Kalbi portion was huge & meat tender which is served on an iron plate. Stone bibimbap has plenty of vegetables & can also customize the spice level. Sauces are delicious & loved the fish (croaker) as an appetizer. Rice with tofu soup Comes in a hot clay stone where you scoop the rice in a bowl & can make 누릉지 sticky burn rice soup on the stone dish. You won't be disappointed with their food. Servers are friendly & very attentive. There's plenty of parking spaces in the strip mall. Ambience is clean, welcoming & busy during meal hours. Bring your patience & expect to wait for your table. So in Los Angeles when you get a soon tofu you usually get a egg dropped in to the hot soup. At this location you don't get an egg. I asked and was told that it's extra here and that it's $1 extra. Nothing different than what I get in LA otherwise. read more

The food here is terrific! I just wish the rest of our experience was up to par. I hate to give this fewer than four stars, but the value and a setback with the service has dropped my rating. Cho Dang Tofu has multiple locations, but I've never been until they recently opened on the Eastside. They specialize in Korean Tofu Soup and Korean BBQ, with most customers ordering their combo plates that include both items for $34.50. I was impressed by their 14 types of tofu soup and you can also customize the spice level to your liking. Three of us ordered takeout and selected two combos to share. The menu states VERY clearly that you can substitute tofu soup in a combo for their noodle salad. However, when we ordered, the staff member said it could not be done. We pointed it out to him on the menu, but he still said "sorry no". From a customer service standpoint, they should honor their menu... otherwise, they should simply remove that statement. Since their opening months ago, we can't be the only ones who asked for the noodle salad option. We have nothing against the tofu soup; it was just that we hoped to switch up one combo with the salad. For one combo, we got the Kalbi BBQ Short Ribs & Seafood Tofu Soup. We chose the Bulgogi and Dumpling Tofu Soup for the second combo. Both combos included a bowl of rice and the banchan sides (kimchi, potato salad, bean sprouts and marinated cucumbers). Based on Yelp photos, customers who dined in received a small fried fish as part of the banchan, but they did not pack that up into our to-go bag. Both servings of Kalbi and Bulgogi were smaller than we expected. We knew the portions would not be the full sizes that are offered a la carte, but they seem small compared to the photos of combos from those who dined in. Our Kalbi only came with six pieces of short rib (one was mostly fat) and the bulgogi was just a couple scoops of meat on top of sliced onions. As for the flavor, I loved both! The Kalbi was juicy and the glaze had a perfect salty sweet balance with a delicious char from the grill. The bulgogi was tender and on the sweeter side, which paired nicely with bites of kimchi. The tofu soup was soothing on a cloudy day and I thought the medium spice level was just right. I preferred the taste of the Seafood Tofu Soup since the flavor of the shrimp, clams and oysters lightly infused the broth. There wasn't much seafood in it, just a few of each. The Dumpling Tofu Soup was okay, but only included three dumplings, so I probably would not get it again. On the bright side, there were HUGE chunks of silky soft tofu in both soups which I enjoyed. At a price of $34.50 for EACH combo meal, we'd consider it pretty steep for what you actually receive. It is worth trying once, but given the pricing, it's unlikely that we'll be back soon. To maximize your value, I would recommend dining in if you're able to. At least then you could ask for refills of the banchan and enjoy the food right out of their hot stone dishes. Stopped by for takeout at Cho Dang Tofu in Bellevue right when they opened, and I was in and out pretty quickly. The speed was impressive. The dining area was clean and well-maintained, which definitely made for a pleasant experience. I ended up having an unscheduled work meeting pop up, so I couldn't eat until about 20 minutes later but surprisingly, everything was still hot and tasted great. The beef in the beef tofu soup was a bit on the scant side, but it didn't ruin the meal. Thankfully, the side dishes were solid, tasty and plentiful enough to round out the meal nicely. Overall, a dependable spot for a quick bite, even when life throws a curveball. I'll be back, especially for those banchan. read more

Hmm... was around Bellevue area and was craving for some Korean tofu soup. I was browsing around the Yelp's app and this spot came up. They just opened a while ago too. I decided to give them a try. I have been to the other location before which is in Lynnwood inside J-Mart at the food court. I don't know if its owned by the same owner. I ordered the combo on the menu and my friend got the Army stew. The food was tasty and pretty decent portion. The banchan was small but they refill them for you for free. Overall, I will say that the Lynnwood location is way cheaper and other tofu place as well. I don't know if its because the location is at Bellevue they will increase the price? I mean for a tofu soup $17? That is a little too pricey and combo for $26? Lol. I would consider trying Traditional tofu house at U-District and then you can compare these two places. Overall, the food is great but just the price for tofu soup, I would say it is not worth it here. read more
