A go to whenever I'm in the area. Cho Dang is known for their tofu soups and for good reason. Their tofu soup is very hearty, filling, brimming with protein, and creamy - something I find lacking at many other restaurants. Not only do they excel well in making tofu soups, their banchan is to die for. They keep it consistent by always providing bean sprouts, potato salad, cucumber kimchi, and cabbage kimchi. They also provide a small fried fish! My favorite side is the cucumber kimchi due to its immaculate crunch and flavor. I always buy a large container of it to go and have it throughout the week. Service here is friendly and fast. The servers are super nice about refilling the banchan. I never have to ask which can sometimes be embarrassing. Prices are definitely worth it for the amount of food that you receive. This location is by far my favorite compared to their Kent and Federal Way locations. read more

Lately I've been on a Korean food kick! I know that Cho Dang Tofu is a franchise, but I've been wanted to check the new spot in Bellevue. First we came during the Covid-19 pandemic, so they did check our vaccine cards for dine-in. The restaurant itself it is clean with plenty of seating and the menus were on the table. I wasn't super hungry, so the hubs and I just ordered the combo special, which is a BBQ item and tofu soup. We got the Kalbi and mixed tofu soup. It comes with refillable ban chan and stone pot rice. I can't comment on the tofu soup, since the hubs didn't share any (womp, womp)... But the kalbi was flavorful and delicious. The combo was definitely enough for both of us. Service was friendly and fast. We got two stone bibimbap bowls and a fish roe tofu soup. Love the individual banchans and fried fish appetizer. The tofu soup came with its own rice in a stone pot. The food was hot and delicious. Loved that they came around to refill banchan fairly regularly. I do think the stone bibimbap was pricey but definitely had a good amount of food. A tasty restaurant to get authentic Korean food! I ordered the mushroom soondubu and it was delicious. I had never seen that as one of the options before. I got medium spice and it was just right. I also ordered the kalbi and that was done well. The banchan/side dishes were good and I liked the extra fried fish they give you. The price is a bit high but I guess that's how Bellevue is. We ordered the combo which we decided to be a fermented tofu soup and beef bulgogi. We also got the nomdak bibimbap In stone pot. It came with banchan as well. Fermented tofu soup - eh, not really anything special, the fermented part wasn't really there or it was really light. I do like that the rice it comes with is also in a stone pot so it was extra crispy which is a plus. Bulgogi - also eh, a little on the sweeter side for me because I definitely can't eat on its own. You definitely need to eat it with rice or something else to help counteract the sweetness. Nomdak bibimbap - AMAZING. The crispy rice was perfect texture. The flavor was good. I can eat it all day. I couldn't taste the squid or the kimchi that was supposed to be in there but who cares haha it was delicious Banchan was standard. What was nice was it comes with a fried mackerel. And you can get refills. Service was a little mix. We had one really nice lady who was welcoming and helpful, where one lady was more scornful and make us feel like we are troublesome kids...so not sure how I feel about that. Tofu stew was tasty, but next time we'll probably order mild or medium spice. Probably the best Korean food in Bellevue that I know of. I've never had a crispy rice from the Stone pot that's as good as this place. It seems to be trying to copy the format of BCD Tofu House in the L.A. area (right down to the little fried fish appetizer) and largely succeeds, which is not a compliment in my book (I know there are plenty of people who love BCD but I'm not one of them!) Your first impression is likely to be concerned because they have an OKAY rating on posted on the front. There are some people who believe lower ratings like these are a badge of honor for comfort food establishments but I'm not one of them. So, I entered the place a bit pensively. The rest is typical sundubu-focused with many different types of soups to choose from, and the usual assortment of kalbi and bugolgi protein compliments. I chose standard kimchi tofu soup with beef and it was really bland. Kalbi and bulgogi meat was fine but nothing super special, and not good enough to recommend visiting for. SO GOOD! Lots of love for Cho Dang Tofu, as this place is crazy busy! My friend and I came here on a Saturday night for dinner and the place was poppin'. Delicious food and hardworking staff here! When we arrived there was a wait at the door, as it was clear the employees were scrambling, with getting orders to the tables and hosting at the same time. There was also one poor employee who literally was cleaning up every table by himself, so that tables could be cleared to seat those in the lobby. An employee reaffirmed that they're trying to clear as many tables as possible to seat us and that two employees called out, so they will try to help as much as possible. I felt so bad for them, and we weren't in a hurry anyway, so no worries. We only waited 20 minutes to be seated. The menu is straightforward, with tofu soups being their specialty. But they have a lot of classic dishes, including bulgogi, bibimbap and my favorite, army stew! You also complimentary tea, which is my jam. With your entrée, you're given a side of banchan, which is a must for Korean food! My friend ordered the spicy pork while I had the army stew. It didn't take too long to get our food, and it was delicious! The spicy pork was a mountain of meat; it was flavorful and tender. The army stew was awesome, with a flavorful cheesy soup base and lots of goods, like spam, hot dog, tofu, rice cakes and ramen noods. Plus, the fresh side of rice in a stone dish made it complete. Just writing this makes me wish I was eating at Cho Dang Tofu right now! Ugh, I love it so much. The restaurant is located in the small business strip by Safeway and Applebee's off of 140th. More like 4.5 stars. Super happy this opened right by my place. It's a bit pricier than other soondubu places but better quality definitely means it's worth it. The ban chan was all so tasty- I finished everything and I usually don't even eat the kimchi in my banchan. Cho Dang is finally open in Bellevue and it did not disappoint! If you don't know, Cho Dang in Federal Way is one of the go to places for Korean soondubu (tofu soup). Food: delicious. The food in general has really good "bul maht" (char flavor). My favorite was the octopus Dolsot Bap - so much flavor packed into each bite with the crunch of hardened rice mixed with sweet and spicy sauce. So so good. The Pork Bulgogi and Tofu Soup combo for $35 is also great. Love to bulgogi with onions - just delicious chewy and flavorful. The soondobu was also exactly how I'd expect it at a Cho Dang, minus the tofu was burnt this time around. I'm sure they'll get that fixed in the future. And the budaejiggae was also really good - loved that it had Korean sausages in there. Price: very fair. $16 tofu soup, $17 rice dishes, and $35 combo bulgogi with tofu soup - can't complain. Saves me a trip to federal way - so grateful this restaurant is here. Ambiance: good open space for a casual sit down meal. Felt spacious! So delicious! It seems like they are understaffed so the wait time was a bit longer. We got the mixed tofu soup and beef tofu soup medium spicy- both were flavorful and delicious. I loved that the rice came in the stone bowl and that they serve barley tea! The fact that I willingly came to get a boiling hot bowl of tofu soup on a 96 degree day really just says everything about how badly I wanted to come check this place out. And honestly, I'd do it again! Cho Dang's location in the belle red area is incredibly convenient (pro tip the safeway gas station across the street has some of the cheapest gas prices I've seen in the area), and has ample parking! The interior is nice and modern, and there's ample seating. Came here on a Tuesday with a friend and there was no wait! The food was great - my friend and I both got a tofu soup and shared the Nakdol Bibimbap. You can adjust the spice level of the soup and I thought the medium spice was just right, portions were well-sized and I was surprised by how filling it was! I was also a HUGE fan of the Nakdol Bibimbap, the squid flavor came out so well and I loved how crispy everything was! Oh and of course, loved the banchan! The fried fish was a unique side I've never had before and I loved it. Sides were definitely on the smaller side but the restaurant has staff members constantly coming around to refill - they have cute little carts! One of the highlights of this place was definitely the service! Our waiters were so attentive and the guy who was running the banchan cart was so friendly! Not the end of the world, but my rice was also over cooked and very mushy. We patiently waited for this place to open for over a year! May be renovations delayed due to the pandemic, or they were concerned about losses that would have occurred with occupation restrictions, but it was certainly worth the wait. The place was packed on a Friday evening, but we managed to snag the last open table. After placing our order, the server kept coming around to top up the hot tea and to let us know that the kitchen was overwhelmed and they had sold out of rice and had to cook another batch. Nevertheless, they kept us topped with ban chan to stave off the hunger pangs while we waited for the main meal to arrive. With a name like Cho Dang Tofu, we had to have the tofu soup. We ordered the Kalbi (beef short rib) combo with fermented tofu soup, and the Daeji (spicy pork) combo with seafood tofu soup. Both came with a whole fried yellow croaker, a tiny portion of pickled raw squid, and a stone pot rice. As a little side, the yellow croaker was a delicious touch and kept our hunger pangs away until the main dishes arrived. Lightly dried and salted (not fresh) and battered and fried. Both soups were pretty epic, served piping hot and still boiling in a hot pot by the time they got to the table. The Kalbi and Daeji were sizzling on hot plates - which meant that the best part of that dish was the seared onion slices under the meat!! Great service, and fabulously tasty. They have a no spice version which I actually like though. Pricing though is a bit high, with a standard tofu being almost $20 and $40 if you add a side of Kalbi. Sides were small and just so-so to me, the cucumber and bean sprouts were my favorite. The potato salad and deep fried fish I could have done without but it's nice because it's small bites and they are continually refilled. This is the best soondubu place I've been to on the Eastside. The price for the soondubu itself is not as high as some other places, and you get the same quantity of food and a way more authentic "Korean restaurant" feeling - although maybe that's the tiny fried fish talking lol. Said fried fish started off our meal nicely. I got the fish roe tofu soup combo with kalbi and the soup was good but not GREAT. I wish it had a little more depth - the flavor was good but not very strong. The kalbi was good - not too sweet - but we got really fatty cuts with the giant bone so the bone-to-meat ratio was kind of sad. Considering the price of the soup with and without the combo it's still not a bad deal though. You could get away with ordering a combo and an extra soondubu or other main to fill out a nice meal for two. Okay so far my review has made this place seem kind of mid but at this point it was slightly higher than mid for me - which is already pretty high for Korean restaurants in this area TBH. The thing that really sets this place above the others is the banchan - side dishes. Koreans know that the quality of a restaurant's kimchi is a big indicator of how quality the restaurant is in general. The kimchi was great - like what my mom makes at home. The cucumber kimchi was bomb and they had potato salad - my fav so this may be biasing my review lol. It came with fried fish, potato salad, cucumber, bean sprouts, and kimchi. The potato salad wasn't super creamy but it definitely helped tone down the heat. The cucumber tasted so good. It was salty and sour-well balanced. The bean sprouts were okay. You could taste the sesame oil and the bean sprout was crunchy and soft at the same time. I think it needed a little more salt. The kimchi was so good! It had a good amount of spice. I ordered intestine tofu soup extra spicy. The tofu soup was spicy but it creeped up on you the more you ate. The intestines had a nice texture. The rice was well rice. The kalbi ribs were on the fattier side. The meat was tender and the stuff around the bone was chewy and the flavor was great. Throughout our whole meal the servers would come and refill our banchan and tea. One of the servers were nice and he was telling us where we should put all our dishes and then using the small bowls to eat in since the stone pots are super hot. This place was so awesome! I would say they are the best banchan experience I've ever had. They come by with the carts and consistently offer refills during your meal! All the flavors were excellent and you get a fried fish as well which was tough to debone but delicious! They do have a vegetarian option for the soft tofu soups so you can get a water base if you request it. The mushroom one was good but I will do more spicy next time! This is by far one of my favorite Korean food spots in Seattle. Everytime I visit this spot, I always leave with a smile and a super full tummy. I brought one of my colleagues here and again it was a heavenly experience. All the food came out piping hot. The kalbi and bulgolgi were both tender and juicy. The ham and sausage tofu soup was bomb, goes perfect with the rice. The staff were super friendly as usual and refill our banchan. You get a mackerel fish with the side dishes!
