Service was nice - staff were friendly and helpful. I like their decor and its ambiance is chic plus the place is spacious with private room available. I notice they would offer large table for 10 to parties of 5 and above and set up medium size table of 6 for parties of 3 so this is definitely a good place to bring guests or come with large parties. Many dim sum places in Vancouver are quite crowded and it's not unusual to overhear the next tables plus feeling cramped with a table by the wall. So I appreciate how everyone has plenty of space to sit comfortably and lots of table space for many dim sum dishes. Free parking lot available but it can get crowded, especially on weekends. I often judge dim sum places by their rice rolls because it is one of my favourite dim sum item and they pass the test. I would return to try other dim sum items. This place has an unique English name of Chucila and would be on my list of dim sum restaurants to bring out of town visitors staying in Richmond.

Entering the environment, it was quite chaotic and there seemed to be a lack of order for incoming customers entering the restaurant. However, we were seated shortly after arriving which was a nice surprise given other places you still need to wait regardless if you have a reservation. Chairs were uncomfortable to sit in and awkward to pull out and push in. They had a nice arrangement of flowers on the table. Food was average, not what I was expecting for a fine dining restaurant.

Cantonese seafood and dimsum restaurant, in between Yaohan Centre and Canadian Tire on No. 3 Rd. The building has been various stores and restaurants over the years, and switched to the current restaurant not too long ago. Pretty spacious, nice off white interiors. Their waiting area has like 20 seats which is a plus when it's raining out. Also has some private dining rooms in addition to the main space. Went for dimsum on a weekend, and it was pretty busy. You get a ordering sheet to mark which items you want. The sheet has photos for some items. We got 8 items in total, 7 dimsum and one large plate of stir fried noodles. Serving speed was reasonable. My impressions on the items: Volcano buns: baked bun with chashiu pork filling and a little crusty top. Fresh bbq pork buns are good Shumai: the big shumai that's common in restaurants here. Theirs is is a little less salty and less meaty than places I've tried nearby ,but still big and filling. Stir fried layered rice noodles: this is a big plate that cost almost $30, vs ~$10 for dimsum. Has good wok hay Egg tarts: custard was fresh. The tart cup was not as flakey as other places I've tried Shrimp dumpling: you get 5 of them. Big and full of shrimp. Up to par with the competition Steamed chicken feet: steamed long enough so that it's easy to eat the skin and tendons off the bone. Traditional flavors Sesame balls: their sesame balls have a purple sweet potato and gooey egg custard filling. It's different. Tastes decent. Steam pork ribs: traditional flavors with taro on the bottom. Could be a little softer. Paid $120ish including tips. The 3 of us ate all of the dimsum, and took home most of the rice noodles. I was say they are up to par in the competitive Richmond dimsum scene.

It's like modern dim sum! The interior is very nice and modern looking. Even the tea set seems more modern that what I'm used to. The food is pretty good and the portion sizing is great! Everything was delicious and made well. The taste is similar to other dim sum places so nothing stood out to me except for the matcha salted egg custard bun which is my overall favorite. I was expecting it to initially have matcha in the custard but the matcha is just in the bun and not the salted egg custard (which I think I would rather have it in the custard) the flavor of the matcha is pretty faint but overall it's very soft and lived up to the rest of my expectations. The servers brought the food out within reasonable time so there is no complaint there!

We can't really make out what the name means in Chinese . Maybe . . 朱師奶 ? Or is it . . . 出事啦 ? ? Jokes aside this new establishment is an offshoot of Shoom on Fraser . In this hyper-competitive Chinese restaurant scene of Richmond their dim sum offerings are what I'd consider slightly above average . But good news if you're an early bird coz you get 12% off by paying cash and they'll also waive the tea surcharge . Parking is extremely limited so good luck :D

May be it's because we are all in "food coma" by the end of dinner! This visit was for dinner - and we were outside the door waiting even before they opened at 5:30. On a Tuesday. And we were already second in line. Celebrating a birthday, we had cold jellyfish starter, lobster fried e-fu mein, braised pomelo skin with seafood, and beef fried kai lan. The lobster was perfectly cooked. Even slight over-cooking can make the lobster meat tough. However, every piece was perfectly cooked. Including the large claws. Cooked with ginger and scallions, the lobster gravy coated each strand of e-fu noodles to umami yumminess. The braised pomelo skin was a special seasonal dish. I have not had this dish in many decades, and when I saw this in the special seasonal menu, I had to get it. The bittersweet braised pomelo skin complemented perfectly the fresh seafood, and topped a bed of Chinese spinach. It was the first time for the other members of my family and they literally sucked it all down. The beef with kai lan was another standout. Beef slices were tender and delicious and that perfectly complemented the well seared gai lan - great evidence of wok hei. Service is exemplary. Not just for a Chinese restaurant, but for any restaurant. The servers are constantly on the alert, and Everytime they see a plate filled with lobster shells, they would whip it away and replace it with a clean plate. They made sure that tea cups were filled and kept us updated with the delivery of the next dish. And at the end of the meal, dessert (Tong Shui) was complimentary... and they added a wonderfully light and flaky walnut cookie and piece of mochi for each of us.

Hei Hei Rice Roll is legit good, totally recommend, even my daughter too, I thought of her ( since she LOVES rice roll and couldn't make it on this trip with me) while enjoying these roll but when I shared with her the photos and mention that we will go back here with her- she already visited. She said it was so good! Hei Hei Rice Roll is located at the Richmond Public Market, oh wow - this place is really popular, on the 2nd visit I was the first in line then the line wasn't so long but while waiting for our order, the line got super long. I was lucky I didn't wait long in line. Best to arrive early. I am not sure what the secret to the rice roll but Wow, it's so thin, silky, smooth texture with the toppings, so great together. The last 2 times we had rice roll with my daughter at Portland and Seattle- followed per Instagram reels- those did not even compare to these rolls. My first visit I got the combo which is the best deals, starts at $15.50 but depends on what you select for the selection for rice rolls and congee. I got the pork & preserved egg congee, shrimp, mushroom, pork rice roll. The 2nd visit I got the combo again, with liver & preserved egg congee, scallop and shrimp rice rolls, but I got my order wrong for the roll- they missed the shrimp. fyi-I found out that bean sprout, corn, toppings are free! Both combo came out to $17. super cheap! Cash only, they take USD but its the same dollar $ value. I wish they take credit cards, hehe. & the Verdict: Yummy, the congee hits the spot for comfort food, loved how it is cooked and they add peanuts too. Love the packet of sauce for the rice rolls, the umami-ness, so good. Best to eat it hot and fresh! Don't forget to ask for chili sauce, to add that extra spicy kick! For now, I am not sure I'll ever find a spot that is closest to Hei Hei for my congee and rice roll fix until I get to visit Richmond, BC again.

(Richmond is the location to be, we don't like the Vancouver location due to previous incident) We made a reservation two days before, and were immediately seated when we arrived. (11am for lunch). The place was maybe less than half full at the time, but was pretty full by the time we finished. The whole restaurant felt clean and comfortable. We were hoping for an 8 lb king crab (or less) as there were only five of us including two kids that ended up not really eating much of the crab (as expected), and the smallest they had was over 9 lbs, no big deal let's go! We had the king crab three way, garlic steamed for the legs, salt & pepper for the joints, and the rest was made into a fried rice. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, our cravings were truly satisfied. We also had several dim sum items for the kiddos, and they were happy with the quality (not pictured are BBQ pork bun, egg tarts, and XL). It was a pricey meal, but we were happy with getting our craving fixed.

We followed Google maps to the restaurant and found out the entrance was on the back side of the building so we moved our car. The dim sum was good, they had a couple things I haven't seen in So Cal like Baked shredded radish so I had to give it a try - it was very good! If you plan on having leftovers, do what the locals do and bring your own container. Otherwise they charge you 50 cents for a takeaway box.

We ordered just enough as we ate since we weren't trying to stuff ourself but eating a super late dinner. They had a good variety of food that all looked fresh and in an appealing layout. Meat came soon after every reorder and they topped off our soup often. Only thing I would improve is the fruit and dessert bar. Absolutely positively amazing dim sum…read more * * * Vancouver and Richmond have so many extraordinary dim sum restaurants that the various "Best Of" Lists identify a huge number of potential "Best Dim Sum in Vancouver" candidates. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them. Dim Sum in Vancouver is simply on a higher level. * * * The largest concentration of utterly amazing places are in Richmond rather than Vancouver itself ... Although Vancouver has hundreds and hundreds of places to die for. So to say Richmond offers better choices than Vancouver is something you have to experience yourself to understand. Just go to Richmond and walk in anywhere. We have done a lot of that in past trips and we did a lot of that this trip. It is food orgasm every time. * * * Chef Tony's shows up on a lot of Best of Vancouver lists as do many many other places. If this place were in my home city, Austin, or even in San Francisco, there would be lines out the door. It is a smallish place with an overwhelmingly Chinese older clientele. When we were there, the World Cup Final was on with Spain playing Argentina. Half the tables - generally men - were watching. The elderly ladies at the other tables had their back to the TV and were continuing their conversation. * * * This is an order by menu place rather than take your chances on the carts. Given Chef Tony's small size, there would be unacceptable wastage on a rotating cart system. Frankly, Chef Tony's turned me into a convert on the order-exactly-what-you-want system. Seeing carts that look good, stuffing your face and then seeing the carts you really want is an all-too-common experience in dim sum places. * * * Everything we had was to die for. The live seafood tanks had some impressive looking seafood, including giant hairy crabs. They had lots of live seafood specials, and we went for the lobster (3 lb). You can pick the preparation - I wanted the bifengtang style, but it's a little spicy, and we had the kids, so we did classic ginger scallion. You can add noodles or rice, and we went with fried rice. There are also optional add on sauces: truffle or salted egg yolk. The rice was so good and was a very generous portion. The lobster was also cooked perfectly. We also got a scallop, morel, asparagus stir fry, which was a nice and light dish, also generously portioned. They were really nice to the kids and gave them some extra paper to draw on. We also finished with red bean soup and warm lava buns with runny salted egg yolk - so good. Their dimsum looked really good, so I wished we could have come for that - next time!
