Had such a great experience at Clayton's Coffee Shop! We went on a Saturday and were pleasantly surprised that the wait time was only about 10 minutes. My boyfriend and I got to sit in the booth area, which made the experience even better because we could watch the amazing staff working hard and see all the delicious food coming out fresh. Leila their team member was amazing she has excellent customer service skills and you can truly see that she enjoys her job. The service is on point and friendly, even though it was crowded. The Farmer Benny's Market Hash had fresh veggies (zucchini, spinach, asparagus). A friend and I took the ferry over and walked to the Hotel Del. Hadn't been to Coronado for decades. Passing restaurants along the way, noticed both Clayton's had lines of people waiting to get seated. On the way back to the ferry we stopped at Clayton's coffee shop, it was after the breakfast diners, so we were seated in a booth right away. Service was great and food came out quickly. We both had the turkey, bacon, avo sandwich and it was hugs, probably could have shared, but it's always great to have leftovers. We thought the pricing was very reasonable. We were trying to figure out where to eat on the last night of our vacation, we were so tired of eating out. This places had an eclectic menu with something for everyone. We walked down from the Del Coronado Hotel which was less than 10 minutes. I had breakfast for dinner, homemade corned beef hash with eggs and potatoes and toast. One of our group had the chicken tenders and fries. The serving was huge, they could only eat about half of what they got and the price was cheap. Another person had fish and chips and thought that although probably frozen was better than what we had up in Santa Monica sitting Oceanside. The last in our group had a California chicken sandwich; grilled chicken, cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado. It was huge as well. The staff were super attentive and service was quick. Clayton's has a diner feel to it, with a large diner menu, plenty of outside seating, but a vintage indoor wrap-around counter. We were looking for something quick and they definitely were fast and prompt with the service. Our food came out less than 5 minutes of placing the order. While solid, it fell short in a few ways; the Chili, while it tasted good it came lukewarm. By the halfway mark it was room temp so it left us underwhelmed. The Club, which had a special option of being made with turkey bacon, was bland in flavor and served on what might have been a few days old white bread. The tomatoes were so watery, the one side of the bread was soggy while the other stale. As mentioned, the menu is quite expansive so I suspect that there may be some hits on it, but our selections today just didn't make the muster. I suspect the large coffee selections and ice cream drinks were highlights for others, just not us on this trip. We are open to try them again, if for nothing else, the joy of being in a historical setting! read more

We had awesome service by Dern! He was polite, friendly and outgoing. (Killer now tie too!) He made our experience so fun! I love the cute retro styled restaurant. It's in a great location in Coronado and has the old styled atmosphere almost like you're being transported back in time. I was In luck bc the only place in Coronado that sold a thanksgiving meal was Clayton's. I ordered for our family. Really disappointing experience. We were ignored for pretty much the entirety of our experience. It wasn't busy at all either, 20-30 wait minute for pretty much anything we asked for. This time, while here for work on NASNI, I stayed on the island for the first time and woke up early and biked here for brekkie before work. Not too busy on a morning at 8am during the week. We seated ourselves and were immediately greeted by a friendly young server. We told them we had about a half hour and ordered. Acai bowl, oatmeal bowl, a coffee and a cinnamon roll. All was out within only moments and our check was dropped off for our convenience since we said we were in a hurry. The acai bowl was gigantic and a great price. Probably the biggest I've ever seen and only $13. The oatmeal was a bit soggy and slimy so not the best. The cinnamon roll was SO good. Warm, soft, epic icing. Omg. The best I've ever had.
