Such a nice place! As it name refers, this restaurant rests on the edge of the cliff over looking St George! I was surprised to find a small lodge attached to what appeared to be a small eatery built on a once had been airport. Kinda cool! You have a choice of indoor and outdoor seating. We got inside by a large picture window. Staff was friendly and when alerted that we were on a tight time frame kept the meal on schedule for the dinner party. We started with a super crunch shrimp appetizer served with a orange marmalade dipping sauce. The warmth of the shrimp allowed the sauce to soak into the shrimp- such a delightful start. Corse two, warm freshly baked bread and salads! All were artfully plated. I especially enjoyed the watermelon feta salad with balsamic dressing. The perfect combination of sweet and savory. Others in my party enjoyed the Caesar salad...I must admit, mine was so good I didn't even taste theirs but I assure you all were enjoyed. For the main course I ordered the fresh market special, rock cod. Wow! Smartly seasoned lightly seared and served with the most tasty Israeli couscous with house Preston-yummy! On the side, the best fried young Brussels sprouts I've ever eaten. No bitterness, not mushy, tantalizing to the tongue. Others on the table raved about the spice glazed salmon and the sirloin. The food was really good but that is not why I write this review. A restaurant is food plus design plus atmosphere plus, importantly, staff. Our waitress was very friendly and personal, ready for a little bit of banter. My wife didn't want bread, I did and she brought half a loaf. After bringing the check my wife asked if they had Creme brûlée. I objected that the check was closed but our waitress said that she wanted to make her customers happy (what about me?). We got into some more personal talk that I don't want to disclose here but it was a real pleasure to meet a 20something person with such positive attitude and self-assured personality. St George has, as evidenced by the beautiful temple, a large Mormon population. It shows and is so good to experience. read more

I came here with my husband to celebrate his birthday. The views were unreal and absolutely gorgeous. I made sure to make a reservation ahead of time and called again to ensure I could be seated by the window as I have read reviews saying they were disappointed they didn't get to sit by the window. This made my experience here 10x better. The food itself was overall pretty good! I ordered an Italian soda. It wasn't the best tasting in my opinion (way too milky and not enough flavor), but gorgeous and super fun. I will post a pic. I also ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer and wow it was SOOO GOOD! My husband got the filet mignon and they undercooked it a bit. He wanted it medium-well, and it came more of a medium/medium rare. We let the waitress know and she fixed it right away. I don't think he would order it again because they put a tomato sauce on it he didn't like. I saw reviews about their macadamia nut trout and wanted to order it, but they don't offer it anymore (only as a special). I was pretty disappointed but the waitress said I wasn't missing out on much since, in her opinion, it tasted very bland. That made me feel much better. I ended up ordering the cheese filled pear pasta. I was taken aback at first. I hadn't tasted an entree like it before, and I could tell it was more of a fancy dish. I liked it very much. It definitely was a pasta with a touch of pear and sweet cheese. Super yummy! I would definitely come here again, and maybe try some of their other dishes. Come for the view, stay for the.... appetizers? Came here from out of town for MILs birthday dinner. Thank goodness for the appetizer Brussel sprouts and Parmesan fries, which were both delicious. On the other hand my Maple Rosemary Grilled Chicken was nothing short of gross. The chicken breast was super dry, the sauce tasted like straight soy sauce and the risotto tasted like it had been sitting in a warmer all day, clearly not made to order and overcooked. My husband got the even worse white fish curry and I took one tiny bite and could barely stomach it. My daughter had the Cajun pasta, and privately told me that it was not very good. For these prices, I expect much more than what we got. I can get the view for free. We were with my in-laws, who were excited to take us there, so returning our food was not an option. When we first moved to St George we heard this was the place to go. We decided to go for our anniversary. The food and service were good and the view was great. Our next anniversary came around and we wanted to return. I called to make a reservation- the girl was not very nice when I asked to be connected to the restaurant. No one answered so I left a message. I did not hear back. I decided to call again the next day and left another message to which I still did not receive a phone call. The most amazing view in Southern Utah. I came here for lunch and the unimposing entrance helps to create a dramatic contrast to being seated and facing this spectacular vista. The red rock mountains, the busy valley and white temple just create a feast for the eyes. I have not looked at the dinner menu, but lunch had a nice variety of choices, seemed well priced. Service was impeccable and friendly. Food amazing. Cliff side burger to blow your mind! I recently moved here and the choices to bring company have been very limited. If you are looking for a "cloth napkin" kind of place, this is one of the rare few in the area. I am so confident now that there is a place to share with our most upscale visitors! read more

First I would like to say that the service and view was amazing! However the food here is nothing special at all. I could get better food at a diner or bar. Plus I wouldn't have to pay 50 dollars for it. If your new to town or want a nice view I would check it out but just know the quality of food will not be worth how much you are paying. read more

Disappointed ! We've been wanting to go here for a while now! We went to celebrate my birthday on December 29th. I will say the hostess & our waitress was very nice! The view was beautiful we got there just at sunset. !! My husband order the steak and shrimp special and I chose the Halibut . The dinner was served so fast, and in a very crazy way! The server (not our waitress) literally dropped the plates in front of us and then took off! Me & my husband started to laugh because it was something you would see in a comedy ! Drop & run is basically is what she did!!! My husband's steak was tasty but his shrimp was skimpy and very boring no flavor ! My halibut dinner served over jasmine rice was horrible, dry and the rice was hot in some parts and cold in others the veggies were sparse and mushy! When our waitress came back to the table she was shocked that we were already served our dinner she said" that was so fast"!! We were excited to order the lava cake this was an even bigger disappointment ! The texture of the cake was spongy and soggy sooo bummed at this point and the coffee was bitter and tasted like day old coffee! You may think I'm being harsh but Honestly after the $175 dinner disappointment I will say we will not return to this place! We had a good laugh at our experience oh and in a final note we were in and out of the place in 50 mins!! I thought fine dining was suppose to be slow relaxed and delicious well not here! read more

Lunch with delicious views! The food & drinks were delicious too. We were looking for a light lunch before hiking in Utah and really enjoyed our salad and soup combos. Their homemade lemon-limeade really hit the spot on a very hot summer afternoon. The complimentary fresh french bread with soft herb butter was the perfect touch with our food. They offer indoor and outdoor seating and since I love a good view we took advantage of their cozy patio. The views are gorgeous! City and mountain views in all directions... Making a reservation was easy and the front-of-house staff were awesome. I told the gal about my activity and she advised me accordingly and even put a note on the reservation. I also told her about my melanoma past and asked if they had anything out of the direct sun for lunch. She had a shaded spot that was perfect, albeit not at the railing for a direct view, which I figured. The front row is mostly 4-tops, seated by a majority of two people at each. The music was good, mostly 80's. We entered the restaurant and it reeked like fish. That was a little concerning. We ordered various items. The food took about 35 minutes to come out, which was odd since there were very few people there because they closed the restaurant for a short while to swap the menu for dinner. The lunch menu was pretty standard: burgers, salads, pasta, etc. They are, apparently, known for their salmon. (That would explain the strong fish smell.) None ordered that. Three people ordered a burger -- all were very dry. Three people ordered a pasta dish. The Cajun chicken was the winner. Please note that the four-cheese pear pasta has gorgonzola in it. None of the cheeses are mentioned in the description, and that would have been nice to know as I don't care for blue cheeses. The chicken sandwich tasted like a gas grill. It was weird. I don't know quite how to explain it. But my daughter hated it, passed it around to get our opinion, and she was right. Service was slow. Marie kept passing us by and would forget to take our plates or breadboard. She came to fill waters and still didn't take it. We eventually asked. Would I go again? Probably. But the winner here is the view. FYI, most everyone on the deck was in full sun, so maybe bring a hat. read more

The menu offers many choices and prices are reasonable although I wouldn't pay the price for surf and turf. Spectacular views be sure to get seated by the window. So I am on vacation in Utah visiting family. They just moved to Cedar City and we had to come to St. George for the day. I saw that some friends of mine stop and ate here a few weeks ago. The fires still effect the view so it is better than the pictures. The staff there is so sweet and so kind. The fresh bread the bring out with the herb butter is Amazing! I ordered the Butternut Squash soup, it was the best that I have ever had. I had the Cobb Salad the chicken was dry but it overall was still a good salad. My Mama had the fresh Berry Salad and loved it! My sister had the fish tacos she said they were amazing and delicious. Next time will order that because they looked so good. We would have sat outside however it wasn't restaurant's fault at all just smoke. Enjoyed every minute!!! read more

Cliffside is one of those restaurants you take your out-of-town friends to to prove that you haven't moved to outer no-decent-restaurant Siberia. The food is consistently good and how can you match that delicious view of St. George-day or night? Whether you get a salad, pasta, or whatever, you can't go wrong. The ambiance is definitely the highlight of this spot. We rented the private room and had quite a bit of difficulty with the air unit which made the atmosphere a bit stuffy. Service was a bit slow, Mind you we were a group of 16 but did make res nearly 2+ mo in advance. Unfortunately the food was not very good. Across the board everyone felt the entrees were mediocre at best. My halibut was so overcooked it was nearly inedible and didn't resemble halibut at all. It's actually the first dish i have ever sent back to the kitchen. The staff was very nice and tried to accommodate but everything seemed to just fall flat. The burger was not up to this restaurants quality burger was tasteless, bun tasted old and dry, piled with tasteless onion strings it was just a fail on all levels. Instead of offering an excuse for the unsatisfactory business practices it might be better to offer suggestions on how to improve and a solution to make it right. The menu is a mixture of classic American items but also more exotic/fun. We ate the brussel sprouts, Parmesan fries, clam chowder, spinach salad and chili salmon... I'd order them all again. The gluten free options are amazing and the staff is well educated. They did not have GF pasta when I was there, but the menu had plenty of other options to choose from. Amazing views!!! If you visit this restaurant, it's definitely worth sitting outside on the patio. To start, we ordered the Coconut Crusted Shrimp which was excellent. My husband ordered the Cajun Chicken Penne which he enjoyed. I ordered Fire Roasted Vegetable Pasta with chicken. It wasn't overly tasty, just average. Definitely could've used more flavor. We both ordered a glass of Chateau St Michelle Chardonnay which we both enjoyed. The service wasn't great. At one point, web thought maybe they forgot to put our order in, but they could very well be understaffed too so I wouldn't knock them for it. Will probably be back. read more

We had my husband's birthday dinner there on Saturday. There were 12 of us. We were told we could only order off the "plated" menu which was okay. However our evening was almost ruined because 3 people ordered the steak. They ordered medium rare. They came out very well done. Destiny tried to rectify this and sent the steaks back. Then they came back rare, too rare to eat. One got sent back again and still came back red. They were inedible. One steak was refunded on my bill but three weren't eaten. Of course this took quite an amount of time. So others were kept waiting. I just wanted a memorable birthday dinner for my husband who is 78. We won't have a lot more birthdays to celebrate. Got the recommendation from a friend to eat here and it definitely did not disappoint. This restaurant is pretty popular in the area and is pretty busy as well so make sure you make a reservation before going in. The temperature was perfect and we were able to get a spot on the patio overlooking the city. The view is honestly gorgeous, the one unfortunate part was that there were a few bugs outside that made sitting outside a little unpleasant. I think sitting inside by the window might offer a more enjoyable experience. First off our waiter Brooke was litterally amazing and really contributed to us having a great night. She was very professional and was constantly around to make sure we were doing alright. She was entertaining easy to talk to, and had great insight on what foods were the best. Definitely try to get her as your waiter. We started with the parmesan fries, fresh mozzarella crostini, and coconut crusted shrimp. The fries were decent, but I absolutely loved the crostini and the shrimp. The shrimp was perfectly crunchy and the accompaning orange horseradish sauce was delicious and perfectly paired as it added some sweet and tang to the shrimp. The crostini was also delicious and the pesto was a great detail the really brought out the flavors of the cheese and cranberry mostarda. For my entree I ordered the special of the night which included fried pork cutlets, similar to wiener schnitzel, with sweet mash, green beans and topped with onions. The presentation was great and the food itself tasted great. The pork was pretty basic and not much different than other places, but I liked how well everything tasted together and paired well. My friend got the half stack of ribs and macaroni and cheese. The ribs were definitely falling off the bones and the mac and cheese was pretty typical mac and cheese. Another friend got the pear pasta with seared steak which tasted great. The pear was such a great addition and really added a sweetness to the dish and helped bring out other flavors. We ended the night with molten lava cake, probably some of the best I've had and a good cream brulee. Overall loved the place and the presentation and how creative they were with most of the foods we had. Definitely recommend! read more
