My experience here was pretty exceptional. I dined here with my husband on our 9th wedding anniversary and we were given two glasses of bubbly to celebrate. It was a very nice gesture. The food we had was delicious. We had the goat cheese tart, beet salad, flank steak, and salmon. I don't think I can properly describe each thing we ate, but the only thing I thought was lacking was that there could have been more goat cheese in the beet salad. Everything was prepared well and all flavors were balanced to where we just wanted more bites of each. The service was also top notch - we didn't have to wait for anything. This neighborhood gem feels somehow miraculously misplaced. I've only tried one plate and one cocktail here anytime I've been here. The combination has made an impression each visit. The pork shank is a burst of flavor that melts in your mouth with each bite. If you're a tequila drinker you have to try the Lady is Always Right. O don't even like mango but it caught me. The rustic vibe feels as though it belongs in downtown, anywhere, USA and the chef even came out to ask if my food was up to par. It was Phenomenal. My boyfriend and I went there for Valentine's dinner but we were very disappointed. 1. They didn't post the Valentine's Day menu online or give notice that the regular menu wouldn't be available at all. Only after we sat down at the table we found out their Valentine's Day menu. The price was not listed and we had to ask our server. At this point, we had no choice but go with the pre fixed menu. 2. The food portions were small. Two appetizers, two entrees and one dessert to share. However, we left the restaurant hungry. 3. The taste of each dish was average at best. Some of the food is not too difficult to make at home. The cauliflower was just simply boiled, the shoestring potatoes were cold and tasted stale. For the price of $120 for two people, we expected much higher quality of food. read more

Excellent. A whole lot of interesting food for great value. The goat cheese tart was the most delicious. It's an appetizer but slightly sweet like a good dessert. I would order this over and over. The pumpkin gnocchi is fluffy and balanced with slaty pancetta. The butter bar was rich. I only wish there was more berry compote and ice cream. The staff are attentive and friendly. My only complaint is that it got really dark on the outer side of the dinning room. I think it needs a little more lighting. read more

Visited for dinner late (8pm) on a Sunday evening. Staff were professional and quick to seat and serve us. We sat under the lights on their nice patio which besides being a little bouncy was a great spot. Wife had a "honey" old fashioned and I had a Dragoon IPA (West Coast made in Tucson), both tasty. Food was very good. Everything but the thyme garnish on the charcuterie board was gone: Brie, crumbled cheddar, salami, candied walnuts, dried apricots, poached strawberries, gherkins. Kids had Bolognese (good but a bit salty) and gnocchi, we went lighter with the ceasar salad (fresh and crisp), goat cheese tart (like a warm cheesecake), and roasted beet salad (w/ lovely and crunchy watermelon radishes, and perfectly ripe citrus). Came here to visit once more and needless to say I am disappointed. Their launch of a new menu wasn't what I expected it to be, they took off the classics such as the steak & chicken sandwich. The burgers can't be medium rare anymore? So sad for a restaurant to not cook a medium rare burger. So many popular items are gone. Instead of offering new items it's just a brand new menu. My husband made an online reservation for us for our anniversary dinner. There was a place to and put notes on the reservation so he let them know it was our anniversary. We didn't expect anything when we got there, but were delighted when they served us each a glass of champagne and congratulated us. The service was exceptional, and the appetizers were great. Almost everything on the menu tastes great. The portions are a bit small for apps and entrees. The ambiance is ok but feels like it needs to be warmer. Maybe it's the paint on the walls. We had a party of 4 and tried a few different plates. I was impressed with the chef. Some of the servers are a bit over the top with their "virtue signaling" or pride and it's annoying and off-putting. The braised beef needed a sauce - something with some vinegar or tomato to give it a kick. The dessert was good but the chocolate mousse had a bit of a weird taste and the brownie pieces had a disappointing texture and flavor. Tasted like cake, not a brownie. Would not order again. This was my first time getting Commoner & Co. since they reopened with their revamped menu, and I'm happy to say they're back -- and as strong as ever! Our lovely take-out dinner began with the Goat Cheese Tart, which is served with a seasonal jam. The tart is gorgeously creamy, with a brûléed top that adds some textural interest to each bite. For entrees, we got the pistachio pesto ricotta gnocchi, which is served with sauteed mushrooms, wilted spinach, and parmesan, and the seared salmon with lemon dill beurre blanc. The salmon comes with two sides; we chose braised southern greens and summer mushrooms. The gnocchi was delicious! The pesto was particularly noteworthy: savory, balanced, and earthy. I loved sopping it up with bread after finishing the gnocchi. The salmon was perfectly cooked, and the sides complemented it very well. Both are definitely something I'd get again! read more

My fiancé and I came tonight to celebrate some milestones, I always loved Commoner & Co as their menu used to be full of incredible flavors and the service was always top notch. I don't know what happened, but this restaurant has changed so much. The food was bland, the tv's kept turning on and off, the servers were not rude, but barely spoke to us and they looked upset to be there. After many many delicious meals at commoner, it was so disappointing to get my meal yesterday. We had a nice appetizer and I ordered a salad. The salad was gross! The romaine was old and brown/red edges, there was hardly any kale and it was yellowing. I tried to eat around the bad pieces but gave up because more than half of the salad was rotten leaves. The avocado was browning too but I can look past that. For the high price it should be fresh. If they can't get fresh ingredients then don't serve it. We may give them another try just because we have good memories there, but probably not. I did point it out to the waiter who offered another half salad but by that point I was just grossed out and didn't want anything else. read more

Excellent food, drinks, and service! Despite living 30 minutes away, we come here every one or two weeks. The bartender Cameron not only serves great drinks, but also is extremely creative, concocting custom cocktails from his custom made limoncello! Every visit, we always get the Sage Spiced Pear cocktail and the bourbon trail and both are must try's with balanced flavors and wonderful aroma to pair. $10 each Their goat cheese tart for $11 is a good dessert, though super filling because of how rich it is. Their chicken with cauliflower purée for $20 is delicious, the chicken perfectly cooked, well flavored, and not dry. The same is true with the salmon with forbidden rice for $22. The grilled cheese and tomato bisque was also delicious ($13.5). The burger and the chicken sandwich were also good (but not as good as the above). Their apple tart dessert was wonderful as well, nice firm, sweet crust. All in all, the food, drinks, and service at this restaurant are stellar. There are very few restaurants I have been to where practically everything on the menu has been great! Moving out of Tucson, we will sorely miss Commoner and Co! What a disappointment, looks like they just gave up, from the staff to the presentation. Seated right away, food came out too fast. Maybe pre-made? Our polenta came out cold. The braided beef could have been seasoned a little more. The best thing was the fries. Crunchy, hot, and seasoned. New menu is strikingly different as a lot of my favorite items are gone. Spinach artichoke new recipe is a huge miss on flavor profile on top of the lack of creaminess, appears healthier. Can tell the difference in the burger as well, also not as good as previous burger recipe. Half bird was juicy, but lacked flavor. Charred dilly beans were tart and chewy but if you like pickled greens beans you may like them. As a commoner lover and faithful I'll try a couple more items from the new menu but as a lover of good flavorful food, I can't say that I'm excited about the new menu. The ambience and the service are excellent. It's right at the corner where I live and so very handy for the times I really need a break and it's close by to get out. However, recently they have changed their menu and only two dinner salads, two pasta dishes, and five other entrées are available in addition to appetizers. it was never a big menu but sufficed for most of my needs. Probably the worst place to try and rent out a room for a gathering. I've been trying to contact them and the email they have on the website didn't work. Then they had another email. I finally got a response. Kay was answering me and all I wanted was to have a small bridal shower for my sister. I emailed and emailed waiting for a price for the rental of the room. Kay just ghosted me. It's really disappointing that a business doesn't take inquires about a party seriously. I'm truly disappointed because my sister and I have never been here and wanted to experience this together with our family and loved ones. Now we won't ever come here due to this simple fact. I went to Commoner & Co. on my trip to Tucson, we went on Sunday during Happy Hour (which they do daily) but that was completely on accident and a happy accident at that. Our server was Andy (or eye-candy Andy as we called him) and he was excellent. He had the right balance of attentiveness, he was around enough but didn't hover. When we ordered drinks they came from the bar quickly. We started with the house fries and garlic aioli and the macaroni and cheese (which came with a lot of toppings) which they graciously split into two bowls so my friend and I could share easily. We enjoyed all of it. I also ordered the happy-hour sized Suit - which was an excellent burger. I wouldn't finish it or the fries that came with it. My friend got an empanada which she enjoyed tremendously. Everything was fantastic and we enjoyed the food and our drinks from the bar. When I come back to Tucson this is on my list. I did a fair amount of research before going on my trip to Tucson over Derby Weekend. I want to congratulate not only this restaurant for making every list of great places and great places for foodies but also Tucson's Yelp for the quality reviews in general. We started with the mussels and fries which was only so so- the Thai curry sauce it was in was kind of thin and bland (fries were good). Meatloaf was outstanding and the salmon was okay.
